Updating on rooted stock OOS? - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

I read somewhere that you can actually update the T-Mobile variant of the 7T by disabling Magisk before updating, then re-enabling it afterwards? Was this true? Or does this require a full zip regardless?

[Q] Rooting, unrooting, and OTA issues?

So I'm planning on rooting my LG G3 soon, (using PurpleDrake I suppose because TowelRoot doesn't work on the T-Mobile variant), and I will be installing Xposed after that. I will be keeping my stock recovery as well.
I want to keep my ability to update OTA however, and I know that there are issues with updating while rooted.
As such, will I be able to a) uninstall Xposed and then b) use SuperUser to hide root / or unroot somehow, and then c) accept the OTA and then optionally, d) re-root (if the root method still works)
To make sure that no system files are touched, I plan on freezing any unwanted apps through TB (and unfreezing them before the OTA)
Will this work? Is it possible to unroot without having to wipe data?
I am also waiting to root my Tmobile D851 and have the same questions/concerns. Will be watching your thread. Wish I had some insight but thanks for this.

[Q] LG G3 update

should I use auto update if I'm going to root and install custom rom later?
For me only, once I rooted I purposely used titanium backup to freeze "system updates".
I still get normal app updates, but don't want any system updates, that may break root, until my phone is unlocked.
Ok thanks, if I update can I still root after? After the update if I do a factory reset will the update be lost?
An update can remove root, and patch the methods that a particular root uses to take effect, depending on what it does. That is why I am avoiding updates until the phone is unlocked.
By the way, I can't post on dev forum so I'll take advantage of this topic here.
I already know that Purple Drake's root is working till the V10I update.
I rooted my G3 and disabled OTA's. If I enable them again, run the OTA update (V10I) I'll probably lose root, right?
But, if I apply PD root, will I get root again w/o losing all my data?
thanks!
What is the advantage of the update, should I even bother with it?

[Q] root access with ota available, ota updates not working

I have successfully done the guide to rooting your m8 while keeping the ability to do ota updates. However the ota updates are not working. It just keeps rebooting trying again and failing again.
I have xposed and xprivacy installed. I have the stock recovery installed. Was I supposed to remove xposed? I tought I read that I didn't have to in several places.
I read the entire thread of the guide and have searched for a while. I couldn't find any other errors like mine in any way.
Thank you for your time.
I am not positive on the M8 yet, but on an N5 for example, you can't take an OTA with a custom recovery, or Xposed.
And you need to properly uninstall Xposed. Search on that, I haven't done it.
Also, if you've made other system changes.. Like uninstalling system apps, it won't work either.
I'm not an OTA type, I flash updates manually... And I definitely am not sure if this applies to the M8. ?
You have to have stock recovery, stock rom, and stock kernel to be able to OTA.
I think you must not have any system installed mods as well. (HK sound mod etc.)
s-off and root and xposed do not affect the OTA.

When I root will I loose automatic updates from Google? Any auto-update ROMs out?

So I havent rooted a phone in a while and honestly I cannot remember this. Its an unlocked non-verizon Pixel XL. If I root it, I'll loose the auto updates, right? Is there any ROMs out there that will allow you to update through their app or maybe they have an auto-push update baked within the ROM?
Thanks.
You have to manually download the ota and flash updates via twrp, turn automatic updates off in developer settings. Also reflash root after update.

Banking apps and firefox not working properly

I have rooted phone with miui global 12.0.5 with twrp recovery and magisk 24.3. This summer I started experiencing problems with some banking apps and google pay/wallet detecting root and firefox not working properly (firefox does not open or opens only in background).
Also I can't update or use Tier scooter app because play store says it's no longer compatible with my device...
Can all this be fixed with flashing stock rom and unrooting phone? What should I do?

Did you use magisk hide?
Have you a Begonia or Begoniain?
Latest Stock rom are 2022 A11
normally it should work but you have to lock the bootloader.
Unroot before use Miflash and reboot.

I used magisk hide and I also have both universal safetynet fix and zygisk. And I have begonia.
If I remember correctly some apps can detect unlocked bootloader nowadays so locking the bootloader might be the only way to fix things

Maybe try a newer or older version of Magisk.

Updated magisk but it only fixed the tier app... What are the worst downsides of unrooting? I've found non-root ad blocker and I'm using YouTube Vanced so ads shouldn't be a problem but I might get all the removed xiaomi bloatware back?
