Anyone else hear a slight rattle when picking up or tilting phone? I have the T-mobile Ultra and I noticed this today as soon as I opened it. When I activate the camera and do the same gestures I do not hear the sound. Once I heard it I can't un hear it. I will try to record the sound in a bit.
Recorded it but can't post link.
linksharing.samsungcloudDOTcom/GWL84K4gvRrN
I've had what sounds like a peice rattling when shaking it. Not sure if it's the cameras or a loud accelerometer.
Too me it sounds like loose buttons. I can hear it when I shake mine too.
I think it could be the camera. When I turn it on and shake I don't hear it. I hope its "normal". I shook my old note 9 and note 10 plus and they don't make that sound.
It's the camera modules turn on the camera and shake it see if it disappears.
Wont it just be the camera shutters opening?

My device rattles weirdly when first vibrate hits, when you shake your phone it's normal to hear noise from camera because of camera OIS but that vibration sound drives me crazy ! i thought I had faulty device but many many users have that issue, my s10+ and note 8 had that sound too, check if you can and answer me dial star#0star# and tap vibration if you hear that strange rattle noice...
It shoud be the OIS of the camera. Same here, when you use your main camera, you cant hear anymore, but the selfie cam you can still here it.
There are decent sized cameras in these phones now with shutters, we dont shake digital cameras and we shouldn't be shaking mobile phones imo. Treat them with care, mechanical shutters are delicate things

This is the physical stabilization, donĀ“t panic
There are no physical shutters in smart phones. The camera module is quite durable, even the so-called periscope camera. It can take quite a bit of gs in shock as shown by drop tests that destroy the front and back glass, the camera still works flawlessly.
The noise/rattle you are hearing is from the module(s) that feature optical image stabilization (OIS). These have elements that can move freely when the camera app is not running. It is perfectly normal and part of the design and is not a defect.
Glad I'm not the only one with this problem... Although the sound drives me crazy! But I also don't remember it making that noise when I first opened the box... Might still try to contact Samsung support and see what they have to say... Have you had any luck with yours?
I think it is probably more audible on the ultra than the other S20 series devices because the stabilisation on the zoom has 2 separate pieces that are suspended by electromagnet coils - check teardowns, there is the 90 degree prism, and also some other optical 'barrel' in the centre that moves back and forth as part of the focusing mechanism. (basically lots of moving parts for a smartphone lens.. and the device cant be powering the magnets all the time as it would be major battery drain).

Starting to think none of the you guys hang out on the Samsung s20 Community Forum. Or you would know this is normal. It's been discussed in at least 10 different threads. Enjoy the Phone and stop freaking out over stupid ****! lol geeze.

its normal the one you are hearing is coming from Optical image stabilization sensor dont shake it otherwise you may break something on your camera.

When I got the phone I new it had mixed reviews on the camera. I was experiancing the same, focus was horrible ( about every 4th pic would turn out ), had strange coloring and just crap pictures all around Was hesitant about OTA mandatory update because was not rooted, but found others saying did'nt affect ability to root so I took the update. After I was playing with the camera again and found it to be taking great photos (inside in a very dark room with a desk light ). Can't wait till tomorrow when I can test outdoors...Has anyone else had the same experiance? The update discriptiion didn't say anything about fixing camera issues but it sure seems to have for me...time will tell :fingers-crossed:
Just got Camera Zoom FX after reading somewhere that it improves the quality. It's night as I type this so I can't really test it until tomorrow. Long ago, I completely gave up taking pictures at night with a phone camera because it's a waste of my time. Even a flash I don't bother. Regardless, the G's photos aren't incredible, they aren't horrible, they're exactly what I expect from a lens the size of a couscous pellet.
Regarding the update, I didn't try the camera before that so I can't say. But I'm happy with the results, it's somewhat better than the POS camera in my old phone. Not a amazingly better but better enough. You get a decent selection of settings for a phone here - exposure, ISO, white balance - they can make a big difference in the end result.
If you have Photoshop you can improve camera photos somewhat. Been using PS since it came out, and I know that's expensive. Elements isn't, it can maximize your camera's potential. Depends on how serious you are with this stuff. I'm just some dope who loves to take photos with big cameras, small cameras, phone cameras and as long as I know what to expect with each, I'm OK with it.
Here's what I expierianced...

After Update with Flash
After without Flash
Also the focusing on low light situations seems to be much better.
Very interesting difference between the photos of the PC, stealth. Looks like a window in the background? The flash is obviously bouncing off it or something reflective near it in the first photo and screwing everything up, but you cannot detect it in the second (except in the monitor but it doesn't throw it off anywhere near like the first example).

Yes, and also I was in my bedroom that is blacked out and was even focusing and taking great pictures as to where before it would not even focus in a dimmly lit room.
Camera Focus
None of my pictures come out with good focus unless I'm taking a picture of something immediately in front of me. I just got my phone so it did the jelly bean update before I could even use it. I don't want to buy a separate camera app unless I know it's going to work. Ideas?
I have noticed improvements with the camera with every update that comes. Originaly, like u, i was very disapointed with the 13mp. My htc evo 4g took better pictures. Now Much improved, i may still try the nexus 4 camera improvement hack. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065799
You're beautiful and everyone knows it. That's why you take selfies. Rate this thread to express how the front-facing camera of the Samsung Galaxy S7 performs. A higher rating indicates that the front camera produces fantastic results consistently.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
The front facing camera is permanently fixated on things in the background while things (faces) at selfie distances are out of focus. This defeats the purpose of the front facing camera. It doesn't seem to adjust its focus ever...
However, I do like the raise your hand or say cheese to take a picture function.
Noticed the same thing, pictures on face are a blurry mess compared to my s6.
Yep noticed too, and I even made a comparison with the S6, which resulted sharper..
I have an S7 and my wife has the S7 edge and the front camera is the best we ever had.
my sister was complaining the same thing but it thought she was being nit picky as she just switched form Apple but i guess it might be a known issue then.
Front camera is totaly out of focus! Has anyone else noticed that? A flagship phone shall never have such low level defect!

Welcome to the party, check out the S7 camera thread and you will see that many have this issue.
The front camera is utilising the center focus mode. Mine is working great. Sharps selfies and lots of details. Look at the eyes and the baby's shirt that is in focus. Tey are sharp and clear.

Not impressed, blurry snapshots.
took this one today with my front camera I'm very satisfied with its quality
extremely disappointed with the front facing camera. very blurry selfies.
blurry and feels like the beauty filter is on eventhough its off.
my s6 was way more realistic.
Camera too wide inducing unwanted distortion and even with all the beauty feature turned off, image still look very paint like.
I'm interested by this topic. Any sample? The picture above is not really sharp. I hesitate with the One Plus 3.
Thanks

I've created a thread on Samsung forum regarding this. Front camera has fixed focus to infinity instead of 40-50cm and software libs apply a crazy blur on faces and skin tones especially when iso goes up. It's incredible, I use screenshot of viewfinder to have a better picture than the shooted one!

a lot of distorsions. I hate wide angle cameras.
S7 offer poor unrealistic selfie ..Best selfie which i had was with Htc one m8 and M9
Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Asus ZenFone 3 Zoom come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).

Certainly not as good as iPhone or Pixel. But for a budget phone, this is hard to beat. Portrait mode doesn't always blur the correct areas. Auto mode definitely is noisy and when you zoom in, often a lot of definition is lost.
But despite this, this camera is much better than many other phones. You will not hate this camera. It may not be the best you ever use either though.

Pretty much on the dot... For it price, I don't think you will get any better. For the manual mode, I believe it will beat phone out of this price range as well.
I am having some ptoblems when i try to review photos by native camera App.
Many times the last picture comes above the previews one.
Does anybody having same problem?

Anyone have latest asus pixel master apk for zenfone 3 zoom?
I'm really liking the phone - my only criticism would be that I find indoor pictures are too "warm" (yellow) but I suppose I'll need to learn how to play with manual mode for that. My previous phone handled indoors much better (Moto X Play, not known for its camera).

You can go into manual mode and adjust the white balance.
A camera with potential.
I love the camera in this phone.
Hardware wise it has same or in some cases greater abilities than galaxy s7 edge or iphone 7 plus.
The real problem I see here is software. It doesn't do justice with the hardware. Auto mode is rubbish.
But and the but is pretty BIG.
If you know your manual mode. You can do miracles with this phone.
(Remove space from link to access it.... I am not allowed to add outside links yet.... Sorry for that.)
And for the selfie camera and portrait images I would suggest you to use google camera port drive. google.com/open?id=1IEf-BZQdk_SH3WVG3aev05pdiRpVqW68
Hello folks,
I'm pretty unimpressed with the cameras on the Mi 9 SE.
Landscape pictures look great but as soon as I make close up pictures or zoom in the pictures look washed out. The entire Miui camera app is just unusable and all pictures look bad.
The GCam port is way better but software can't fix everything.
As you can see in the pictures below, it looks washed out and the color if the creature aren't powerful. And I have that with nearly every picture I take.

AI is off and HDR is on but it isn't sharp and looks blurry kinda like a beauty filter but the beauty filter is also disabled.
And this picture is taken with the GCam port.
Any tips why some picture look washed out?
Honestly Mi 9 SE takes more sharper photos compare to some flagship phones. Clean your camera lens before taking pictures because it becomes dirty easily. Keep camera frame at 4:3. Play with camera settings like saturation and contrast. I keep everything stock and results are amazing even close up shots. In this price range it is the best phone for its camera performance, just look at camera comparisons at youtube.
Terrible camera
I see its an old post but i am surprised nobody else responded with recognision. A month ago i bought an Mi9SE for its camera and i have been nothing but dissapointed. Its blurry, that just wraps it all up. My old xperia Z5 compact takes better pictures.
I havent taken one picture on which i could seperate the wimpers of someones eyes no matter what i do. I had the same idea, as if there is a hidden beautifier that just disrupts it all even when you turn the actual beautifier off.
Did you got any further with this?

Hey, not really. Apparently it's not only on my device. I returned my phone. It's just super disappointing.

Sorry for these words but "Blind" peope will suck always. But I help you. Gcam 7.2 for mi9se got updates nowdays. My s8's camera is killed for example
And, I am super happy with this phone, with kowalski's custom kernel and Bliss rom, + my optimizations, the phone has good vattery and super fluid. I use 78HZ display. After I unlocked tge phone, feels like I have a totally different phone
I reached 7h screen on time on 4G when I used 60hz display.

So, anyoneknow what the little hole/dent is above the flash? Doesnt seem to serve any purpose, but guess its there for a reason. At first i thought it was a chip in the glass, but then searched and saw they all have them.
Maybe it is the zoom microphone for video? That is what I think.
I just checked the official hardware diagram, and it's not explained there. The one you refer to (above the flash) is not part of the diagram at all, I just checked my phone and I also got a small hole above the flash, even though there is no indication about it on the diagram. There are also 2 little holes clearly visible above/between the wide and ultrawide cams that are also not explained.
Mh. Might be a rear microphone, as Markus_G assumes, but we don't know for sure.
Since it's the only part of the rear camera module that has an actual hole (cutout in the glass), it's probably relatively safe to assume that it's a microphone.

It is known for certainty that the P6 Pro has a secondary, ambient light sensor inside the rear camera module (plus one at the front next to the selfie cam). But we don't know for sure which hole is which.
I just checked the previous hardware diagrams, and in some of them Google added a couple of informations retroactively.
I highlighted the interesting part.
This is just odd. I checked my old P4 and there is the same cutout next to the flash that you referred to above the P6 flash. BUT that cutout is not mentioned - not even shown, it doesn't exist - on the P6 diagram. I can only assume that the P6 Pro diagram is wrong/does not represent the final product that was launched. It seems that Google needs to update it's diagram, since it refers to - probably - a pre-production model/state.
ah it is indeed a mic....
Not on the hole, but the flash emits a tiny bit of light at all times. You can see it in darkness after your eyes have adapted to it.

Only if its been activated recently. Takes a little while but it does indeed go completely dim.

Possibly under some contexts, but likely used for taking audio with videos.
