Camera Quality?? - Sprint LG Optimus G

When I got the phone I new it had mixed reviews on the camera. I was experiancing the same, focus was horrible ( about every 4th pic would turn out ), had strange coloring and just crap pictures all around Was hesitant about OTA mandatory update because was not rooted, but found others saying did'nt affect ability to root so I took the update. After I was playing with the camera again and found it to be taking great photos (inside in a very dark room with a desk light ). Can't wait till tomorrow when I can test outdoors...Has anyone else had the same experiance? The update discriptiion didn't say anything about fixing camera issues but it sure seems to have for me...time will tell :fingers-crossed:

Just got Camera Zoom FX after reading somewhere that it improves the quality. It's night as I type this so I can't really test it until tomorrow. Long ago, I completely gave up taking pictures at night with a phone camera because it's a waste of my time. Even a flash I don't bother. Regardless, the G's photos aren't incredible, they aren't horrible, they're exactly what I expect from a lens the size of a couscous pellet.
Regarding the update, I didn't try the camera before that so I can't say. But I'm happy with the results, it's somewhat better than the POS camera in my old phone. Not a amazingly better but better enough. You get a decent selection of settings for a phone here - exposure, ISO, white balance - they can make a big difference in the end result.
If you have Photoshop you can improve camera photos somewhat. Been using PS since it came out, and I know that's expensive. Elements isn't, it can maximize your camera's potential. Depends on how serious you are with this stuff. I'm just some dope who loves to take photos with big cameras, small cameras, phone cameras and as long as I know what to expect with each, I'm OK with it.

Here's what I expierianced...

After Update with Flash
After without Flash
Also the focusing on low light situations seems to be much better.

Very interesting difference between the photos of the PC, stealth. Looks like a window in the background? The flash is obviously bouncing off it or something reflective near it in the first photo and screwing everything up, but you cannot detect it in the second (except in the monitor but it doesn't throw it off anywhere near like the first example).

Yes, and also I was in my bedroom that is blacked out and was even focusing and taking great pictures as to where before it would not even focus in a dimmly lit room.

Camera Focus
None of my pictures come out with good focus unless I'm taking a picture of something immediately in front of me. I just got my phone so it did the jelly bean update before I could even use it. I don't want to buy a separate camera app unless I know it's going to work. Ideas?

I have noticed improvements with the camera with every update that comes. Originaly, like u, i was very disapointed with the 13mp. My htc evo 4g took better pictures. Now Much improved, i may still try the nexus 4 camera improvement hack. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065799

Is this a software problem? 5mbpx and 8mbpx shouldn't be this huge of a difference.
Did you let it focus? I've taken fantastic pictures.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Yup, manual focus by touching on "Toast".

What exactly is your problem with those pictures?
Focus point is different in both pictures btw, the darker pic has it on the "Lenovo" and the lighter picture in front of the cup, I think.
Both really. The camera module isn't all that great and better software makes a difference. I rested the MIUI camera software, camera FX and stock and stock software was by far the worst. That being said my old incredible took better pictures overall with the MIUI app.

Taking a picture of a scene with a lot of black and white can confuse the metering system of camera every easily. You would need to frame exactly the same scene to compare them. The camera is trying to average the whole frame to 18% grey, so if you have a lot of black in the scene, then black part will be closer to grey than black. A lot of white part will also be closer to grey than white.
From sample pictures I've seen GN's camera seems to lack some contrast, but gets more details out of darker area than other cameras, which also induces more noise in a poor lighting situation.
Not sure if this will do justice, hope it's not too compressed.

I think this picture also shows what I said. It shows more details from shadow areas than pictures from other phone cameras, but because of that it appears to be lack of contrast (washout look if you will). I think it's definitely correctable via software if they choose to do it.

thanks static and koolbon i think you might have nailed it. i will do another test on dark and light - this time letting the camera meter the same way as the NS. in my first test, the GN metering/focus was on the cup.
its hard to take the exact same frame, NS had the camera offset from centre.

Camera flash issues

I find that the camera flash is inconsistent when taking photos and makes flash photos appear muddy or white balance is off because the camera is not taking the picture at the right time. Examples below.
No flash

Automatic Flash
Using the app flashlight forcing the light to stay on during capturing
As you can see there is a quality difference but i wonder if any one else has this or if there is a fix ???.
Bumbide bumb
Great question, but I believe flash is handled by the Imagechip, so it's probably a driver issue, therefore if there is no setting exposed in the camera app to fix this, then the only fix can come from HTC.
My photos with flash are always yellowish.
@Op,
Reason is simple.
Flash on a smartphone or any other device doesn't make sense to my opinion.
Maybe for some situations it will work but for most it won't on a tiny device with such a small flashlight.
Why do you think pro camera's have external flashes?
In most situations it's better to use the camera without flash.
The only reason you need a flash is to shoot a moving object in low light conditions to get it sharp.
The object should be very close as it isn't possible to have a flash light so strong (with such a tiny bulp) that it can cover a distance further then one meter or more.
Actualy I don't know what the maximum distance is with the flash on hox but everything after this distance will be dark because the light stops in a couple of milliseconds.
If the object isn't moving you don't need a flash, only a slower shutter or larger diafragma to catch the subject in low light condition.
It would be cool if HTC would make a socket for external flash in any futher device.
If i'm not mistaken from what HTC said this is the first smartphones implemented with smart flash. The auto-flash's brightness is auto-adjustable accordingly on the object distances and enviroment brightness. They only mentions this on MVC, but not on ads. Wondering why, maybe could lead to IP issues.
Please note that I am not commenting on the photos quality, just telling what I know.. Pretty interesting features, you may try it yourself..
That the white balance is off is very logical.
Or did u change the balance before taking the shot..

Yea your right but some people make use of that, like sometimes i might want to go out to my car at night to take a picture of a book or anything impartcular or when im out with my girlfriend in th dark and we take pictures together real close. I do understand however it does nothing for widespread shots.

The white balance is off because the camera misfired at the wrong time and captured the light at its weakest output.

Poor photo quality

Hello Gliders,
what do you think about photo quality with Captivate Glide?
I have to say I'm barely satisfied with it. Pictures taken with it are good, but they totally can't win a comparison with those taken with my old phone (a Nokia N97 mini with a 5 MP camera).
You'll find two photos attached just to notice the difference (and I can totally assure that difference is way more evident in daylight photos.. Nokia, sadly, rocks.) The first pic is taken with Glide (Camera FX is the app), the second one with Nokia.

Did you experience the same?
Are you satisfied with your camera photo quality?
Any fix or app or tool or anything to improve photo quality?
Google and xda weren't my friend this time.
try it with the default app. i have found a lot of 3rd party camera apps do not take as good of pics as the default camera. a lot of them crop and enlarge a photo that the camera is more than capable of taking at native resolution.
If you ask me the glide is bad at close ups but if you take a pic of like a mountain ut does great but you could make sure in the settings that the resloloution is set to its highest mine has changed on me before
sent from my captivate glide
I think there is something wrong with your camera, maybe its dirty or something, for my part i am very pleased with the quality of the glide's camera, here's some examples:

I have to admit, your pics are very good. I don't get the same quality.
Are they taken with the native app?
Any suggestion about what I could do to improve mine?
I have inception v2 rom and those pictures were taken with the stock camera app. As for advices, always touch to focus before taking a picture, make sure the lens is clean and most important of all, don't shake while taking the shot. But you may be unlucky, all the digializers are not made equal and on a small one like that, the tolerance is pretty big, or maybe I got lucky with mine. But your picture looks more unfocused than grainy (little coloured dots), so I think your digitalizer is fine. Try touch to focus and stay really steady. Sorry for bad engish
I was using Camera Zoom FX for a while too. I bought the app when the Google Market was having their 10 cent app specials. After a while I noticed that the pictures were always out of focus and appeared grainy and it was very difficult to get a nice clear photo. Later on I decided to try going back to the stock camera app (I am using Osimood) and noticed a huge difference in the quality of the photos. At the very least I found that it was easier to take good clear photos with the stock camera app. Once in a while the photos from Camera Zoom FX would look good but it usually took me quite a few tries before I got the picture that I was satisfied with. If I get a chance I will post two different pictures for you to see.
I'll try, but I don't think I'll get pics as good as yours. Let's see.
Thank you )
this one was taken with my glide. i think the phone has an excellent camera. i have found that many, if not all of the 3rd party camera apps all come out blurry. mainly because they take a photo at a certain resolution and enlarge it. check your resolution on camerafx.

Photo quality

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Asus ZenFone 3 Zoom come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Certainly not as good as iPhone or Pixel. But for a budget phone, this is hard to beat. Portrait mode doesn't always blur the correct areas. Auto mode definitely is noisy and when you zoom in, often a lot of definition is lost.
But despite this, this camera is much better than many other phones. You will not hate this camera. It may not be the best you ever use either though.

Pretty much on the dot... For it price, I don't think you will get any better. For the manual mode, I believe it will beat phone out of this price range as well.
I am having some ptoblems when i try to review photos by native camera App.
Many times the last picture comes above the previews one.

Anyone have latest asus pixel master apk for zenfone 3 zoom?
I'm really liking the phone - my only criticism would be that I find indoor pictures are too "warm" (yellow) but I suppose I'll need to learn how to play with manual mode for that. My previous phone handled indoors much better (Moto X Play, not known for its camera).

You can go into manual mode and adjust the white balance.
A camera with potential.
I love the camera in this phone.
Hardware wise it has same or in some cases greater abilities than galaxy s7 edge or iphone 7 plus.
The real problem I see here is software. It doesn't do justice with the hardware. Auto mode is rubbish.
But and the but is pretty BIG.
If you know your manual mode. You can do miracles with this phone.
(Remove space from link to access it.... I am not allowed to add outside links yet.... Sorry for that.)
And for the selfie camera and portrait images I would suggest you to use google camera port drive. google.com/open?id=1IEf-BZQdk_SH3WVG3aev05pdiRpVqW68

Camera pictures look washed out

Hello folks,
I'm pretty unimpressed with the cameras on the Mi 9 SE.
Landscape pictures look great but as soon as I make close up pictures or zoom in the pictures look washed out. The entire Miui camera app is just unusable and all pictures look bad.
The GCam port is way better but software can't fix everything.
As you can see in the pictures below, it looks washed out and the color if the creature aren't powerful. And I have that with nearly every picture I take.

AI is off and HDR is on but it isn't sharp and looks blurry kinda like a beauty filter but the beauty filter is also disabled.
And this picture is taken with the GCam port.
Any tips why some picture look washed out?
Honestly Mi 9 SE takes more sharper photos compare to some flagship phones. Clean your camera lens before taking pictures because it becomes dirty easily. Keep camera frame at 4:3. Play with camera settings like saturation and contrast. I keep everything stock and results are amazing even close up shots. In this price range it is the best phone for its camera performance, just look at camera comparisons at youtube.
Terrible camera
I see its an old post but i am surprised nobody else responded with recognision. A month ago i bought an Mi9SE for its camera and i have been nothing but dissapointed. Its blurry, that just wraps it all up. My old xperia Z5 compact takes better pictures.
I havent taken one picture on which i could seperate the wimpers of someones eyes no matter what i do. I had the same idea, as if there is a hidden beautifier that just disrupts it all even when you turn the actual beautifier off.
Did you got any further with this?

Sorry for these words but "Blind" peope will suck always. But I help you. Gcam 7.2 for mi9se got updates nowdays. My s8's camera is killed for example
And, I am super happy with this phone, with kowalski's custom kernel and Bliss rom, + my optimizations, the phone has good vattery and super fluid. I use 78HZ display. After I unlocked tge phone, feels like I have a totally different phone
I reached 7h screen on time on 4G when I used 60hz display.
