Daylight savings - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

So this morning my phone advanced the time an hour.
Im on Verizon and have auto timezone checked..
The problem is I live in Phx. We dont do daylight savings. How can their network still be getting this wrong after so many years?
I know I can go manual time but then it doesnt change when I travel next week.
Any ideas?
Frustrated

Update.. after a prolinged usless chat with vzw, a restart got the time right. Why is this needed? My wife has same device and hers was fine.
I hopeni dont need to restart every time i cange cities when traveling next week

I used to live in AZ and had this happen to me once too. I live in Hawai'i now, and a couple times my phone's time went a little wonky. We don't change time here either.

This happened to me yesterday morning as well. Seems it happens every single time on every single phone I've ever had while on T-Mobile. Luckily I don't rely on phone alarms, like ever, and just go with my good old fashioned alarm clock. I've had the time screw up for me enough times, lol. Phone corrected itself by about 5 in the evening

We're you also logged onto your (or someone else's) WiFi?
The phone can/will pickup the time from the WiFi and if it's not setup for no DST that could have been the cause.... Or not.

[Q] A Daylight savings problem

Ok so our prime minister decided to abolish daylight savings for good! And my Desire Z isn't liking it.
I'm running android 2.2 and i've manually put in the time and its working almost properly now, however the timing in ALL the applications is an hour ahead.
for example if i send an sms at 6:00pm the time stamp is 6:00pm, great. But when i receive an SMS at the same time it comes as 7:00pm which is a problem.
The same with tiwtter and all the apps on the phone.
Does anybody know how I can fix this?
Thanks alot!
Well it's receiving the time from your network correct? Have you tried calling your carrier? Sounds to me like it could be their end causing the problem.

I don't think so because apps like twitter that have nothing to do with the carrier have the same problem... any other ideas?
Thank you!
what happens when you change it to network time?

When I have it on automatic it goes back to daylight saving, which is an hour later than actual now!

SOLVED Problems with time change.

Is anybody else having problems with the time change staying correct?
Both mine and my wife's phones won't keep the correct time.
I have called Verizon and the only thing they say is to set the date/time to manual.
I don't see why they won't fix their crap.
I have tried the *228 number and done both options and the time still won't hold.
Any ideas?
BTW: my wife's phone is the Samsung Fascinate (stock not rooted).
EDIT: it seems as though Verizon fixed it sometime within the past few hours.
It was just daylight savings time, could that be what your problem is?
Yes. Neither one of our phones will keep the correct time zone.
And it started when the time was supposed to change over.
In the Settings > Date & time menu is the option to use the networks' time. And for some reason it will change the time zone from central time to central mountain time.

Date and time screwed up

Ever since DST ended, my time on my phone is all over the place. What is sprint doing. Have others had this issue.

Mine changes every now and then too. I'm in Chicagoland, but only happens to me downtown

Go figure. I'm chicagoland as well..

Mine jumped a timezone on DST morning and set back two hours. It took about 2 hours before sprint finally got the time and time zone right.
Both my sprint phones have been doing this, and if I uncheck the "use network time" option it just reverts later. Pissing me off! Also in Chicago.

Also in Chicagoland here, mine jumped back the hour for DST and switched to Mountain time zone. I manually changes the zone back to Central that day, but have since selected the network time option and things have been fine.

same here when i'm in chicago. quite annoying, the issue with manual time setting is that when you reboot the phone, it messes the time up by a lot and then whatsapp displays an error message about time being off.
also, 3g data speed is abysmal and 4g data speed is what's passes for 3g speed on other networks. and random reboots on stock FI27 with 4ish hour battery life. looks like it's about time to check out a 4.1 rom.
I live in Chicago and am also having the same issue. When DST ended my phone dropped an hour then around 1400hrs it jumped ahead to the Eastern time zone. It holds for a while by changing back to Central time zone but always reverts back. I will be giving Sprint a call and let you know what they say.
I live by midway airport and the same thing happens to me. I just chose to set the date and time manually and it doesnt change anymore.

Sprint note 2 losing connection

Anyone that has a sprint note 2 all of a sudden lose data connection for like a few minutes? If so have yall found a fix? Kinda annoying when the time you really need the phone the internet isnt working right away. Other than that the phone is still amazing!

hey mate.
same problem here in Italy with TIM operator.
They said me that is a problem of cell location as the problem occours only when I am in some location in my city and not, for example, in my work city (Milan)
Furthermore, I have not experienced this problem with other operators which I tried so in my case it's absolutely a provider problem! Have you tried another sim card?
(I'll descrive my problem as you can say we are talking about the same: when I'm connected (and only when I am!) I see the icon H/3G in the top right of the device. In few minutes this icon disapppears and for 1-2minutes I'm not able to use data connection, even if the data is still active of course! After this short period the icon appears again and so on and on!).

Happens to me randomly too!
Well, at least it's not just me. Don't know if that makes it better or worse. Awesome phone, but this has been annoying lately because it keeps going out at really inopportune moments. Guess it's just a tower thing.

[SOLVED] M9 seems slow? [UPDATE] Wifi possibly my issue??

[SOLVED]
As I mentioned a few times in this thread, I was going to get a new wifi router and try it...... Well, the new wifi router fixed the issue.
All my apps that require a data connection (FB, CL, Weather, Instagram, ect...) all work blazing fast now.
Not sure why my wife's "Apple" stuff wasn't having any issues with it, maybe because it was an Apple AirPort router?? Either way, I'm now getting 80-104mb/s down and 25mb/s up.

Now for my original post - below.
_______________________________
I just upgraded from the M8 to the M9........ On At&t
When I first got the M9 and booted it up (first boot), it zipped through all 180-ish of the apps in about 2 minutes and I thought "WOW, this is much faster!
Last night I unlocked, S-OFF and rooted it...Of course, it reset the stock ROM when I unlocked the bootloader, but that still only took about 2 minutes to run through all the apps....I then flashed some ROM's to try on it.. Each time they would go through their first boot, it took about 20-30 minutes (for less apps). I've since tried a few other ROMs and get the same results, it takes a good 20-30 minutes. That's about how long my M8 took. But still NO WHERE NEAR as fast as the first boot when it was stock.
After the boot, and I restore all my apps form the Play store, it seems to take an exceptional amount of time for each app to re-install too... Not download, but install. For example, it just sat on "Installing" Google Maps for over 7 minutes before I stopped the Play store....Then went to my next app, downloaded it and took 4 minutes to install a 7mb app.
Did I get a bad phone?? Or maybe have done something wrong in my root process? This is the 8th or 9th phone I've rooted and I've also rooted several tablets, so I'm not a total nOoB. Maybe a bum firmware?
{UPDATE} I'll post below too, to bump this thread.
So, after basically being couped up in the house since I've had the phone, I went out and did my normal Wednesday thing (bowling), in a different city with pretty good LTE... My phone was FLYING fast on just about everything.
When I came home and connected to my home wifi, things all got really SLOW again. I thought it might be my Firmware (latest Developers 2.8.617.4, so I flashed it agian with no change.... I then flashed the most recent International tw (2.7.xxx.x) and I get the same super slow results. It takes almost 2 minutes to connect to SpeedTest.net with the app and I have 100mb down and 20mb up internet and I'm lucky to get 10 up and 1 down.
My wife's iPhone has no issues and gets 60+mb down and 17 up.... So, something is going on with my M9 and either the way it's talking to the router or something is corrupt?
I opened the Play Store and let it sit for a good 45 seconds, and none of the icon's would load (see pic), it only usually does that when I've got really week signal.
Gonna check my works wifi tomorrow to make sure it's nothing with my wifi or router, but everything else is running smooth (Both ROKU's, X-Box, iPhone, iPad and my songs M7).
To restore apps use titanium, not only will you get the data to them but it's faster and doesn't need the internet.
As for the indexing at the start of a ROM flash, I think thats to do with the OS indexing the apps. Also I think odex vs deodex, one takes longer than the other, could be why it's taking longer to install some apps.
As for 7 minutes for an app is not right.

Not the phone. That's the nature of custom roms. It takes a lot longer in optimize apps, but they'll run faster once optimized.
Might try rebooting for the slow play store apps installing slowly.
One thing I have noticed with the m9, especially in the XDA premium app, first try at clicking on a link for the first time will take a long time to load, click back and reload it, its possible that the play store may be the same, cancel the download and restart it. 7 minutes is not right by a long shot.
Is it slow if not using wifi too?

Using LTE, it's lightning fast (when the signal is good). Heck, even when it's a weak signal (5mbs), it's still better than my home wifi.
I'm trying a different wifi router tonight, just to rule that out. I'll see if that renders any issues.

@kravguy's confusing his Wi-Fi problem threads. He made the suggestion here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/help/help-wifi-issues-various-roms-t3153303) to change the channel in build.prop

I'm going to blame old age. My fault. Just some similarities to the symptoms as far as wifi speed.

I blame too many threads with the same or similar issues. How many different dev edition update threads can we have going at once?
[SOLVED]
New Wifi router fixed everything!
Funny how it went "on the fritz" the same day I come home with a new phone?
