Sharing hotspot on AP band 5GHz - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

I cannot find menu to choose between 2.4 and 5 in mobile hotspot. I read somewhere that Excynos architecture can recieve 5GHz but cannot transmit. Can anyone confirm that?

Edit: Oh, seems like I'm wrong according to the post above.

[Q] Devices don't see Wifi Tether Rotuer Hotspot after Lollipop update

Hi There
First post!
I have a Note 3 on T-mobile.
So I had rooted kitkat using this method: http://www.galaxynote3update.com/root-tmobile-galaxy-note-3-sm-n900t-no-knox-counter-trip/ and had been using Wifi Tether router to have unlimited tethering while i'm at work.
I used this method to get to the new lollipop when it became available for my phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...icial-lollipop-n900tuvufob5-t-mobile-t3046295
and now Wifi Tether Router runs, enables the hotspot, but none of my devices can see the hotspot. I've tried the SQL thing, and someone suggested trying to set the encryption to Open instead of WPA2, but that doesn't work either.
anyone else having this issue or have a fix?

Hey, i managed to get it working by changing the SSID. For some reason keeping the SSID i used before the Lollipop update wouldn't let it be seen.
Pls am having the same problem... How did u resolve yours Mr gohanrocs12.. How did u change ur ssid?
Ssid is the name that identifies your wifi network, like Netgear 77, or Lynksys. It's typically the name your network wifi router comes with when you take it out of the box and set it up.
You access it with a computer based settings program that comes with the router allowing you to change settings on your router. .

Try Google and youtube, you will find a bunch of stuff on it. Use your brand of WiFi router in search to get more specific answers.

in other devices you can select preferred wifi band to connect.
I also miss this feature. I used to have separate SSIDs for each band but some apps don't like sharing across different ssid names even though it is the same network... Don't know if this is still a problem but it hit me the hardest with chromecast.
Mine always craps out when I connect to 5 GHz, stays connected but there's no data.

This on my T-Mobile 811, I can control it at home, but not at work.
Sorry to revive an old thread but I searched to no avail.
Anyone know how/where to set the wifi frequency band on the G4? I want to force it to use 2.4GHz but the option is not there in Advanced Wifi settings. It is there on my Nexus 4 with AOSP but not the G4.
Thanks in advance.

Force 5ghz WiFi.

As the title may suggest - is there a way to force 5ghz WiFi. There used to be an option to choose WiFi frequency band but I can no longer find this.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Can't be done anymore unless the ssid is different for 5ghz frequency. If the ssid is the same for 2.4ghz and 5ghz, the phone will automatically pick the strongest signal.
Maybe there's an app or something that allows you to force it.
Ah...explains why I can't find it :/
Thanks for the quick reply!

I have separate SSID's (names) for 2.4/5Ghz. I just "forget" the 2.4 Ghz AP and so it is not available. Not related but there is a setting in Hotspot setup where you can select which band you want to use. Maybe that's where you saw it?
No, you definitely used to be able to select the frequency band in advanced settings.

Keep in mind i don't have a Pixel 2 XL yet, this was from a different phone but it might apply.
Wifi > 3 dot menu > Advanced > Wifi frequency band > 5Ghz Only.
I'm not sure if that helps, but i thought i'd try.
I see what you mean. When I say you used to be able to I mean on older versions of android on older Google phones. It seems to be a setting that has been phased out for some reason.
My modem has two different passwords, one for 2.4 and one for 5g

WiFi incredibly slow

Anyone else have SUPER slow WiFi speeds when it comes to downloading? I know this phone only supports 2.5ghz WiFi but it really shouldn't be this slow. My download speeds are like 4mb/s. Keep in mind that I'm using the Huawei Mate SE but I'm on the Indian Honor 7x stock ROM. I'm not sure if that makes a difference since the wifi antenna is a hardware thing.

Try turning Bluetooth off if you have it on. I read that Bluetooth and wifi use the same antenna in the 7x, and that can cause wifi to be slow if Bluetooth is on.

Change your router 2.4 channel width auto or 20/40 MHz to 20 MHz only. That has improved the WiFi speed on my wife’s 7x.

I noticed this on my Mate SE too...I do use Bluetooth for my Huawei Watch, so I have to leave it on. One thing you can try that may or may not make a difference is turning off Bluetooth scanning. Seemed to fix my Moto G5s with the same issue, but not so much for my Mate SE

Thing is, I use Bluetooth for my smartwatch :/ I'll try xdabory's method when I get home.

I use Bluetooth for my Pebble watch. Do you mean turning off scanning specifically or Bluetooth as a whole?
EDIT: I found the Bluetooth scanning toggle and switched it off. I'll see if that changes anything when I get home

So, I'm a little late on this, but since there're no answers yet...
One thing I noticed: I can't turn on the tethering if I choose the 5 Ghz band. Don't know why, it says it's not available in this country (I live in Germany). If I choose 2.4 Ghz it works without issue. Hope that helps someone. :fingers-crossed:
What's the point of tethering when hotspot works flawlessly? I've played Fortnite while traveling on my laptop on the 5ghz band of my Mi Max 3 with no lag.
