Hey Guys!
I know this is a hard question to answer since the S20 Series isn't even released yet but I really wonder how long it will take root to be released? The first time I pre-ordered a Phone was the S10 and with took forever to be rooted! Is that usually how it works or did it take little longer for the S10 Series because Samsung changed many things and dev's had to overcome those changes?
The exynos will be rooted fairly quickly, snapdragon... not so much.

A month is very quick. 3-4 months is usually the average. 6+ months is slow.

Ugh.... owning a device at launch sucks then.
The euro version enoxys or however it's spelled will get root almost immediately as usual with Samsung and with that being said Snapdragon may never see it and if it does we're lucky

Just curious, why do you guys need root access? I've given up on that since they came out with Knox and haven't looked back.

Not with data/settings I'm afraid. Just the apps. And you have to do the settings yourself. I have a few hundred apps and I don't want to do their settings every time.
The call recorder app I use requires root.
not too much, but still something needs root for me. Why the korean version shipped with snapdragon T_T

Make a backup on your SD card and it will save settings too. That's what I did when I got my S20+ this Monday. Made a SD card backup on my S10+ , and everything including settings transferred over to the new phone. I also have a couple hundred user apps myself.

Yep, exactly. The backup took about 3-4 minutes, and the restore took about or 8-9. I still had to do a LITTLE tweaking to get everything back how it is was, but the overall process was super simple.

I have tried this. I don't know if has changed lately, but if you have an app with a ton of settings, like AquaMail for instance, try restoring it and see if all your settings are back. I'd be surprised, if so. Thanks for your replies anyway.
I'm curious I bought mine directly from Samsung unlocked version snapdragon so it is not carrier specific. So will that be able to be rooted or does that fall under the same as carrier units?

Can anyone give me their opinions rooting right away vs waiting? I'm coming from a 2 generation ago HTC with root and unlocked bootloader, s-off. I'd hate to delay rooting but I'm wondering how things have gone lately in the Samsung world.
-If I wait, will there likely be another method of rooting that would somehow be better than Chainfire's current method? (Won't trip knox or void warranty or something along those lines)?
-Would I be better off taking any OTA's that are available upon getting the phone before rooting or could those OTA's prevent root if I take them?
Any other reason why someone might delay rooting?
I personally probably will root it if a method is available (haven't verified yet.)
Primary reason being is to make transferring from my previous phone a lot less painless with titanium backup.
Or maybe I won't, because it won't be long before I'd want to flash a custom debloated rom.
Decisions decisions...
the only reason to wait is you want to maintain your warranty. If you pretty good with figuring out issues, it may not be an issue.
Me, 99% I'm not waiting. If I have time, it''ll be one of the first things I do. If not, I'll do it following day.
I enjoy Samsung devices but they usually leave me no choice but to root to remove some of the bloat that I don't really want. So for me it will happen once a cf auto root occurs!
There is no root for sprint yet. Big freaking bummer.
I wouldn't worry about that at all. Chainfire has already released CF Root for like seven different models of the Note 4 - Exynos and Snapdragon models. I would give it a day or a few after official release of our Note 4 until we have root.
And anyways back to the OP - I will be rooting as soon as I get my phone and charge it to full haha. I'm going to need to erase like a million apk's from /system to get rid of plenty of the carrier and Samsung bloat.

Bah to root, im going to be busy working on recovery, to me thats far more important
as much as im gonna hate moving to a new device not having root i think i am going to hold off on root till a method that does not trip knox is introduced. Or a way to use the samsung dongle with knox tripped is introduced. I don't care about warranty but the limit to use accessories is a game stopper for me. I mean with knox flag stop the VR glasses from working. to many unknowns right now.

It that really true. If the knox is trigger using accessories such as the VR or Galaxy Gear watches won't work? What the heck? I thought knox was introduced by corporate people to have a more secure phone. Although the rooted use is a small portion of people, just seen short sighted to me.
I just rooted everything works good so far, used t-mobile's root with no issues.

Yep, works fine. TB is restoring my apps as I type this. Just choose "Normal" for SuperSU to update the binary. Don't forget to install the FixSD app to allow the correct writing permissions that they talk about in the T-Mobile forum.
I've been searching for a root since I got this phone. I never really got a straight answer from anyone. With my old phone(gs3 mini(ikr)), I found a root immediately. Can someone please help me? I need to root my G4 but I can't find one. Is there even a root for it? If so, could you please give me a link of some sort. Btw I have the AT&T variant (h810).
There is no root for the US variant, AT&T, TMO,VZW, Sprint. There is only root for the 815 Euro Variant.
Root is Bering worked on, so for now, enjoy the stock experience.

you could try backing it up and restore it via adb backup. but it's not guaranteed to work though [emoji14]
I don't know how Steam works, but many of my apps had a backup option within the app itself. They allowed for an export of that backup data (or I copied and pasted it as necessary) and then performed a restore or import of the app data. I was able to get most of my settings and app-specific data back on my new phone that way.

First semi reliable info! Let the countdown begin!
This is when the international versions will begin to receive the update. Look for AT&T (and the other carriers) to hold that update at least 3 to 6 months extra to add their bloat.

I'm happy with mine, too. I got so obsessed with flashing Roms on my first 3 galaxies that I finally got burnt out on it. Sure, root would be nice, but I'm fine with the device as is. But I also don't have some of the issues I see other have. I've got no camera problems and I regularly get about 6 hours of screen on time. So, I'm good.

That's quite a broad question but I'll try to give you details. I've disabled anything I don't use or that I know cause battery drain. There are several apps in the app manager that aren't "useable" apps, and they aren't in the app drawer, but cause significant battery drain - disabled without negative results. I switch between touchwiz and Nova Prime launchers (and have noticed no difference in battery drain). I keep things like wifi and Bluetooth disabled if I'm not using them. Auto brightness turned off. I keep location on but only on power saving mode unless I'm traveling out if town.
That's generally it, I guess...

It's a long list. It was easier to just screenshot them. In the bottom two you can see my battery stats. I unplugged this morning around 7:15 AM and I'm down to about 47% after 8 hours and 3.5 hours screen-on time.
Today, I've checked email several times, had several phone calls, plus I've streamed youtube to a chromecast for classes that I teach, and even played a couple games during lunch. I do have lots of other apps I use, too; about 4-5 pages worth in my app drawer. Working well for me.

Will it be possible to update my device in another country that there is no AT&T services here. Last time in forum I saw some guys telling to use Kies to update and they said there are some pages but I couldn't find them either.

Kies is one way, but it sometimes takes Kies a while to get the carrier-branded firmwares. (International firmware is almost instant on the other hand).
The fastest 2 ways to get the update would be to
1) use someone's activated ATT sim in your phone. Pop it in, boot up the phone, wait a few minutes for the sim to set itself up with your phone, then check for updates. Then download, install, and then put your original sim back in.
2) Use an Odin file. The only issue with this is that you most likely will have to start from scratch with your apps and settings. Be sure to back everything up first.
You'll also have to wait for the Odin files to be released by someone, but it'll be 100x sooner than Kies.
Edit: The latest 5.1.1 Odin files are in the first post here (you'll need all 4 files in the Dropbox link):

I use FTP Server Pro and Filezilla client on my computer to backup/restore data from the "sdcard". I usually do full backups to make sure I have my latest data if I have to change roms or have any problems from a bad flash.
For back and restore of apps I use Swift Backup, if you have root applied then it will let you backup/restore the data for each app also so apps like 2FA will still work without having to re-register. It will let you use Dropbox, OneDrive or FTP to backup/restore your apps and data too.
