I currently use the built in email app to connect to a couple of my Xfinity email accounts. As of this morning I started getting the error below.. It's not really clear what permissions isn't asking for, anyone seen this? I don't have an exchange accounts set up, the error popping up regularly is getting annoying.
To sync to registered EAS accounts, you need to allow permissions in settings.

I have a rogers s621 with WM6. I am getting different behaviour when I download messages from 2 different POP accounts.
On the first POP account, when I download a message (2k limit set) and then open the message and download the rest of it the original message is retained on the server. This is what I want to happen.
When I do the same thing on the 2nd POP account the message is not retained on the server.
The settings for the 2 pop accounts are the same except they have different e-mail addresses and point to different pop and smtp servers.
There is a setting to leave messages on the server, but that is only when deleting messages and I did not delete the message on the 2nd POP account. Is there another "leave message on the server" setting that controls deletion as a result of downloading that I am missing?
Any help would be appreciated.
If the settings are the same then I would assume that it is server configuration that is causing the problem.
POP3 mailboxes should behave as in the first example, messages should not be deleted until the full message has been retrieved, and then only deleted if an option to leave messages on the server is not checked.
It looks like the second server is assuming the entire message is getting downloaded when the client accesses messages and then deletes them.
Depending on who the e-mail provider is, you could talk to them but not sure how much luck you would get!
You might also consider switching to IMAP if the provider offers it, as it is far more intelligent in handling these sort of situations, as it is assumed that mail remains on the server at all times unless expressly deleted by a client.
Solved.
You were right. The issue was with my provider. They don't allow leaving messages on the server for POP accounts.
The solution to get it work the way I want is to have it as a POP account on my PC, and an IMAP account on my S621. That way when I'm on my PC the messages get downloaded and removed from the server, and when I'm out I can check them on the S621 and they will stay on the server so I can get them again the next time I'm on the PC.
Hello,
Randomly and habitually in the middle of the night, my S3 download the same message from the POP3 server again and again.
Example : I'll open the message, mark as read, and then next night the app checks for new e-mail, the message is back again as if I'd never opened it in the first place.I know, i can choose the option delete from server, but I dont want this. My desktop is in charge to delete from the server, not my phone or my tablet
Is it possible for my S3 to act like the iPhone mail app. In others words, download the mail only one time and leave a copy on the server.
Thank for your help....
Same problem here - Tried K9 but it just wasnt for me. Not seeing much else out there
Why does anyone even use POP these days? It's a terrible protocol for managing your email. I'm in the email business and POP users always seem to have issues with email clients and/or losing emails. Use IMAP or switch to hosted exchange
Hey Guys,
I've had this strange issue just start earlier this week. I am running completely stock Android 4.2.2 with the stock Email app. I have my work MS exchange email account set up to sync my mail with push retrieval and 1 week sync. It has always worked just fine and only earlier this stopped working.
Here is what happens, when I open my Inbox it shows mail up to the day it stopped working (Feb 26). If I click refresh it tries for a little but then says "Coudn't open connection to server" in a yellow bar at the top. Now for the interesting part. If I open up a subfolder within my Inbox folder, that folder will sync just fine with the most recent mail. All my subfolders within Inbox sync all my mail with no problem. But if I try refreshing my main inbox folder, it always says "Couldn't open connection to server".
What I have tried:
*Restart phone
*Deleting and re-adding the account
*Changed the sync settings
*Incoming settings with SSL and without SSL
*Cleared data and cache for the whole Email app itself
*Downloaded K-9 Email app and synced my exchange account. It worked without issue for all folders.
Given those troubleshooting steps, the issue seems isolated to the Email app itself.
Anybody have ideas?
Thanks!

Hello,
I have a note 3 and galaxy gear. After updating to kitkat I have this problem with the phone constantly notifying me of new emails, even though I have already acknowledged the email. Prior to updating, I was able to swipe the new email notification and It would not renotify me until a new email was received, now after about every 15 mins I get a notification to my phone and my gear saying there is a new email even though its the same email as before.
The only way to stop my phone from renotifying me is to delete the email completely. I have ensured that Gmail notifactions are off, and am only using the email samsung app.
This was working fine before but now I am going crazy and not even wearing my watch because it is so damn annoying.

update.
I have removed the gmail account from the 'accounts' area of settings and re added it. I am still getting a notice of new emails every 15 mins (the sync setting) regardless of having a new email or not.
I cannot find anyone else having this issue... and i have 5 email accounts tied to this phone, and only the primary/default account is having this persistent notification issue.
Any ideas?

I have also cleared all data and cache for the email app.... as soon as I add my gmail account it starts notifying me every sync of the first email in my inbox.
I guess I am going to go to tmobile and get a new phone unless anyone has any other ideas.

I checked my gmail settings from a computer, and it shows IMAP and POP enabled.
For some odd reason it appears the issue may have been resolved, and I have not modified anything since again deleting the data/cache.
Should POP be disabled and only IMAP enabled? the phone is set up to utilize IMAP not POP.

Your phone had a hiccup. Not a hardware issue. It happened from time to time. It self fixed itself when it got caught up.
TWEAKED 2.0 ELEMENT V3.0 NOTE 3
My hotmail and corporate accounts are not getting emails delivered to my 5X after a certain time today. Internet works on the phone, apps can get internet and I can go to websites in Chrome.
Tried rebooting and switched airplane mode on and off a few times.
Anyone else having these issues?
Edit: I went into accounts and hit sync all and it started working for some of the accounts. I should not have to manually sync the accounts, they have all all been getting push emails as they come in up until today.

Have you tried "outlook app" from google play store? Maybe it will help. I have this app installed, but for my Hotmail account, I didn't need "push" notification, so I set it to manual.
Hi,
I had problems with the GMAIL App not syncing my Hotmail account & also uploads to GDrive were not working about a week ago. I uninstalled recent updates and rebooted phone. All has worked fine since then. I have also allowed both apps to update and all is good.
If you're still having problems, give it a try
I've had issues with this. So have many others. Check out this issue here
