Between this and not being able to activate Google assistant by voice, I'm thinking of getting another phone.
Is there any way to turn the screen off without locking the phone?
Hello?
Dont set any lock/finger auth may be..

I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue. I have to enable a PIN or pattern lock to allow a corporate secure wifi network setting to be saved and for something else (I think for my bank app). From the G4 settings it seems like you can set it to NOT lock when turning off with power button (last option), and a 30 minute timeout before it auto-locks. Yet despite that, mine still seems to lock requiring a pattern input and not just a swipe if I leave it on the table for just a minute. What am I missing?
Thanks all!

These settings are under Lockscreen. Right at the end. It should work, unless you have another app controlling locking.
Exactly.. it "should work"... but it isn't. It insist on locking all the time.. Could the fact that I"m connected to said secure WIFI cause that?? (vs just having an entry for it)
You could try going under the setting for Security - Phone administrators. Look if there is something that is controlling phone lock.
I know for my example, I must enable PIN locking, but my phone administrator for that account enables up to 30 minutes before forcing lock. So as long as I uncheck the setting for "Lock phone immediately on power button," my phone will immediately be unlocked within a 30 minute window where I don't need to enter my PIN.

Right, that's what I'm going for / expecting. I have 3 in there, Android Device Manager, Support & Protection (Verizon thing it looks like) and AirDroid. Only Android Device Managers is checked ON. ADM can obviously affect the lock screen and can change the lock password, but I don't see anything else which would affect this timeout being ignored. hmmmm
(Thanks, BTW!)
I was looking at my Smart Lock section and read the blurb about On-body detection, which was the only Smart Lock I had enabled. It says "Just unlock once and your device stays unlocked as long as you keep holding your device or carry it on you." .... "Your device will lock when it detects that it's been set down"..!! So, I've now turned on-body detection OFF as, in this case, it's working against me. Seems it's not too well integrated with the other options (ignores the Security Lock Timer).
If I don't post back, it's probably working as hoped.
Disabling on-body detection has definitely solved my issue with the G4 locking shortly after setting it down on the desk.

I am trying to figure out how I can add a short message such as "if found call.. xxxxx.." in case I lose my phone on the lock screen, I have a pin, and use the fingerprint lock as the phone has work stuff and must have a password setting. Is there a way to do this?
Hi all,
I've got a really annoying feature on my screen lock where my keypad will auto-show and if I enter my PIN I'll be launched direct into the app at the time. I hate this feature and want to disable it, but I'm not sure which setting controls this. Did I say I absolutely hate this feature and it drives me nuts hence why I'm posting here.
Its not 100% clear what you mean.
Your lock screen activates and when you unlock it via pin you get put back into the app that was running before screen lock activated, when you'd prefer it to go back to the home screen?.
That is normal behaviour. There is no way to change it without causing an even bigger nuisance, which would be to kill all apps upon leaving them, which will make your phone run slow.
I could recommend an app by htc called "boost+" which can kill apps automatically if you apply the background optimizers to "always off" which will attempt to kill apps when you leave them. This is less intrusive than using developer settings to kill all apps. It may work, it may not.
Hi, thanks for replying.
Yeah sorry it is a little difficult to articulate this behavior.
So when I want to go back into my phone from the screen off / sleep state, I hit the power button to turn the screen on and wake the device up. When I do this the screen lock keypad opens and if I enter my pin I'll be taken into an application. Mind you this doesn't happen all the time. It generally happens when I've received a notification e.g. hangouts message, an sms, missed call notification, email and so on. I'm sure this behavior wasn't happening before. I can't remember if I changed a setting, or there's been an update to the lock screen from HTC. Either way I want to turn this feature off, I don't want the phone controlling me, I want to control the phone.

I've just purchased my first pixel phone. I wanted to test active edge, but I don't really know how to activate it. In settings I've set sensivity to the lowest and indeed it reacts when I squeeze the phone. But only in this screen in settings. Even though it says it's on, no matter how much I squeeze the phone, nothing happens. I've even read Google manual about this topic and still I cannot active it, no matter what. When should it activate? When I'm on home screen or when my screen is locked?

Hi there, it works out of the box, you don't have to activate it. It should work when your screen is locked and at any other time.
One thing that I can think of is if you have disabled your nav bar for some reason, or if you are in immersive mode. Then it doesn't work in my experience.
Also if in your country there is no Google Assistant yet - it won't work either!

Thanks. So that's the reason. Indeed, there's no Google assistant in my country yet. So then it's useless... I thought my phone is broken or something.
So, on the official rom 12.5.1. I was able to wake Google Assistant when the screen is off. But now that I'm on Xiaomi EU. That doesn't seem to work anymore.
Is there a way to make it work ?
PS: I'm on Xiaomi eu 12.5.4 (stable)
have you tried searching for 'assistant'? if it's available, choose Assistant settings/lock screen

I don't remember mentioning anything about Lock Screen!
I am talking about waking Google Assistant when THE SCREEN IS OFF.

You should enable "Unlock with Voice Match" in security setting. I'm not sure MIUI will allow this option.

"Unlock with Voice Match" applies to Lock Screen. I have no problem waking Google Assistant from Lock Screen.
I want to wake it when the Screen is off. Like when my phone is away and I just say "Ok Google" and it starts listening.
I have same problem too
I want to disable it instead! it bothers me that every time I talk to my google nest hub the phone also turns on and then gets stuck on the lock screen without going back to turning off and going to AOD ... how to do it?
