Horrible battery life all of a sudden on 10.0.7 - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

Am I the only one who is all of a sudden having horrible battery life on 10.0.7?
Used to get 6-7 hrs of SOT, now I am getting around 2. Cant think of any changes to my apps or usage history

Yes, have been using the EK kernel manager with just default settings.

It's due to OnePlus brain service. Search in the forum for it and you'll find a couple of ways to stop it.

thanks. Seems like that is very hard to do. I might just disable the custom kernel. Honestly the only reason I installed it was so that I could change the vibration intensity. If anyone knows of another way to do that outside of custom kernel manager I would be all for it!

I just flashed a magisk module

I also have extreme battery drain especially when using the phone. Idle it uses not much blatter, when using I get two hours Sot.
I also have ExKernelManager with default kernel because it fixed my WiFi issue and the phone sleeps as a baby at night.

sounds like the issue is probably the kernel then. Im going to just go back to stock I think

As I read in the forum it is related to oos version 1.0.0.3 and oos 1.0.0.7 and not kernel related.
I flashed the fix mentioned in the thread but no luck for me. Cluster 3 remains on 2999 MHZ and CPU tmp still on 50+.
Seems flashing to build 1.0.0.6 is the only way to fix this issue.
Edit: I just set the max CPU from cluster 3 to lowest settings and the CPU dropped right away and temp is now steady around 30/35 degrees. For me a temporary solution till next oos update.
Regards ysco..

I got the same issue. Getting not even 2h SOT. No custom kernel here, just basic OS with darkmode on & on WIFI connection.
(Currently 1:28h screen usage at 29% battery left)
Any fix in sight for this?

Phone is almost unusable for me now with such crappy battery life

Just install arter97 kernel, worked for me and clusters are running nicely now and CPU temp is low.
Battery life is improved now because cluster 3 is not hanging on 2999mhz anymore.
Just download the kernel from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...development/arter97-kernel-oneplus-7-t3952578
Just flash in your favorite kernel manager the new kernel, magisk will be preserved. First boot takes some time after flashed the kernel.

Glad it also worked for you to.
Well i was testing and reading on the forums about the drain because I only got two hours of Sot because of cluster issue. And started testing different kernels and this one fixed everything and is my daily kernel now. Battery is improved with 90% now I have almost 3 hours Sot and 70% battery left on the first run after installing this kernel.
Regards ysco..

Just a update with the used kernel I discribed earlier.
7 hour Sot and 10% left, never had such good battery on my former oneplus devices then I have on the 7t now. So no issues anymore with battery drain.

Need more info on your rom and kernals you are using.redpil got performance but not the 7-9hrs of screen on time
Omega+devil 3.0.78 or neak1.9 are both awesome with omega.Do you oc/uc/uv your device?also TRY resetting your battery Fuel ChiP via st Tweaks
Did you try a 'battery life' governor and scheduler?
You should do some analysis after flashing the custom kernel and wait for 2~3 cycles before having a clear idea.

I was on Persus initially but coz of battery drops I stopped using it.
Then recently I went with redpill and same stuff happened. When the phone is not being used it deep sleeps very well but as soon as I start using its a flowing river. Battery drops like crazy. I have random reboots and seriously pissed.
I haven't messed with any cpu settings. Kept them as they were before.

You don't have touchwake/wakeup lag fix flashed right? Because those drain battery from my experience. And wakelocks are most likely some app than kernel.

Best Battery Saving ROM/Mod/Anything?

I am on OOS 3.2.7 Stock Root Xposed.
By the time passes, the battery performance is getting fu**ed up. Its losing around 10% overnight with everything off. Earlier it was less than 5%.

Force Doze can be used with xposed, u don't need a custom kernal for a CPU profile but I recommend it to you, anyways try and see what happends.
I am using FreedomOS with ElementalX kernel (without any profiles atm).
Used to get SoT around 3-3.5 hrs prior to flashing the ElementalX kernel, now I almost consistently get 4.5-5 Hrs SoT.
I have noticed a bit of noticeable lag while gaming but its an acceptable tradeoff for me. The kernel has some profiles that you can use with their app - I have heard people getting crazy SoTs using them.

I dont like putting all my social apps frozen though. I had RedMi Note 3G before this with same 3K battery. It used to last 1.5-2 days easily. OP3 is way better only apart the battery and Camera issues.
Thanks again!

how long does your battery last?

Hello there guys, I've started to use this phone a week or so, and I tried a bunch of different ROMs and finally I have settled with Dot Os since is the one that worked flawlessly for me, but here's my question
How long does your battery last?
I've seen older posts complaining about this phone battery. But I wanted to check with you guys that have been using this phone with custom ROMs.
My battery last very poorly, most days I need to recharge from 2 to 3 times in the same day, I don't play games, but my screen time is long I suppose, I use it a lot to look up things in the browser or to read posts on reddit mostly.
Since this is a second hand phone I thought it could be that the battery had run its course and that it was time for a replacement, but even with a new battery the performance still far from desirable.
It's very hard to compare, because it depends a lot on your ROM, kernel, adjustments and usage !
On my side I bought the phone (a6020a46) more than a year ago, and I use it for my work with Bluetooth for the headset, but I don't use much games or browser, so it lasts around 24 hours...
Really the developers have stopped thinking about the battery life, custom roms are more focused on performance and smoothness now a days. I am watching temperature of my cpu its always above 42 C even on using whatsapp it gets heated. I was searching for Kernal with hotplug like stock kernel but didnt found. All CPU cores are working Tirelessly consuming tons of battery. I wonder whether no developer can develop a battery saving kernel with better management of cores like stock kernel developed in 2016.
It could be the ROM, but since I'm not sure what to expect from this phone in trying to first figure it out if my battery is in fact OK, so you guys recommend any app or method for that, I'm using Accubaterry and according to it my battery health is fine, but even though it can't last a whole day on the other hand I can't complain about performance, it really is fast and just works (DotOS)
Edit : yeah I think that the main source of battery drain might be the ROM itself, I've been lookin at kernel adiutor and by default all cores are always on with the minimum frequency of 960 MHz

Only kernel with hotplug turning the cores off by default I've found is the one that comes with AEX 5.7 by Harry.
See this post:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/k5-plus/development/rom-aospextended-v5-0-t3688595/post77036466
Also he added a core control to manage hotplug values.
You don't like (for whatever reason) cores being offlined all the time? Ok, go to core control and set the properly value to switch all the cores on as you like.
If you want low battery consumption, I would suggest to stay on Nougat, it's not a troll it's a fact

Honestly I don't really care if it's nougat, oreo or whatever, I'm just looking for a stable release to use as a daily driver for a while since I can't keep flashing a new ROM every day
@shubhgoan, @ghst7 here's offlining hotplug working properly on Oreo AOKP, by using Dragon Elite v1.4 kernel.
As many others custom ROMs, no way to hotplug the cores without using a custom kernel wich support that feature.
I'll be testing how much the battery lasts now.
@walterfuster let me know how it's goes, BTW can you tell me where did you find DE kernel v1.4? On the Dev section I have found only version 1.2
In the meantime I'm using AOSPEX and although the hot plug behavior is not that aggressive, it works and I already have noticed an improvement in my battery life

yes, it makes hotplug work, turning the cores off and on independently, depending on the cpu load.

Hey @walterfuster sorry to bother you again, but can you answer one last question for me, are you using an external SD card? And if so is your SD card formatted in what extension, fat32 or exfat?
I'm asking because I'm using a 64gb SD card formated as Exfat, and every time after I flash DE kernel I lose access to it, I mean the system still recognize my SD card but when I navigate to it, it shows no files, they are still there I just can't access them, I just want to be sure before I have to make a huge backup to format my SD card as fat32, I'm on AEX 5.7 btw

Hi guy, oh, I don't use an external SD card, so, I can't check anything for you.
BTW, I've also tried PB2 kernel with AOKP (completely compatible), and no chance to hotplug. It's a shame, man. because it's a great kernel: no random reboots like DE 1.4, and also has overclocking!
So, only way to get hotplug on any custom Oreo is by flashing DE v1.4, AFAIK.
I also attempted a crazy thing wich was replacing AOKP boot, with the one from AOSPEX, in order to run AOKP with AOSPEX kernel, to finally get hotlugging, but, guess what: DIDN'T work. Just got an endless unicorn boot logo

Upgraded to Android 10, garbage battery life

Hi,
I flashed stock android 10 image after it was released a few days ago and the battery life is GARBAGE. Any ideas on how to fix this? I know adaptive means it should get better after a few days, but I don't really see this.
Battery life for me is pretty horrible, I can't get 2 hours of screen time doing simple things like taking photos, reading the news and email and some book reading. I don't even play games, I would say processing of HDR photos is the most intense thing I've done. I updated on Tuesday and battery life has not improved.
I had the same terrible battery experience with android 10 stock until I changed kernels. Assuming you are rooted, you can install Ex Kernel Manager, then go to the ElementalX tab and click to check for update and it will give you the option to download and flash Elemental X v. 5.05 for pixel xl android 10. It will flash the new kernel for you and then ask if you would like to reboot. Once you reboot you can change governors and many kernel settings. Currently I am at 54% with over 3hrs screen on time and average about 15 hours per charge with 6 or more hours screen on time. This is at least double what I was getting on the stock kernel.

Actually, even if I do apply on boot, is resetting governor to sched. Hmm
I don't see a real battery difference switching to powersave, just a performance difference.
I didn't actually switch the kernel, though. That's with the included kernel.
The battery life really is awful. Any ideas?

No improvement with battery.
Also, now I have the problem of my messaging and email apps don't update unless I manually open them. and sensor seems to be messed up to where if you tap twice on phone, you don't see clock, and picking up phone doesn't show notifications, despite these options being turned on. I know there is a bug on this.
For what it's worth, I was on the Q betas, and battery life was similar to what I was getting on pie. Then once the official update installed, battery went to garbage even after several days. I ended up downgrading to Oreo leaving the bootloader unlocked, but installing elemental x kernel so that I'd still pass safety net. I had heard before that Oreo had better battery life than pie.
Things improved after that, but I know that a downgrade like this won't be an option for most people.
Edit: also should mention that I've underclocked the CPU using the installer for the ex kernel which has also given me a slight boost in battery life. Don't really notice any performance difference for my usage.
where to dowload elemental 5.05 .img ? i can only get the .zip file but i have no way to flash it.

I used ex kernel manager to flash it and then rebooted but it's a paid app. for a free app you could try flashify which is an app that can flash kernels and recoveries. I haven't used it in a long time to flash a kernel so I make no guarantees but it has worked well for me in the past.
How much did you underclock? I went back to 8.1 and battery life is much improved.
Stock seems fine to me 6hr sot on lte off charger for 17 hr. But did replace battery a year ago

Hey, I assume you're asking me. I underclocked to 1440 for the small cores (down from 1593), and 1900 for the big cores (down from stock 2150). The aroma installer has a few values to choose from, so you can try experimenting a bit. The values I used represent about a 10% drop from stock speeds.

Yes I was asking you, sorry for some reason it didn't reply to your comment. Thank you, I'm going to experiment and see how it goes. Are you doing anything else to improve battery life?

The biggest battery drain I have is keeping WiFi on. So I created some tasker profiles to turn off WiFi 2 minutes after the screen goes off, and back on when the screen goes on. It also only turns off if it's not plugged in. Still not perfect, but works well enough for me.

Reducing the battery drain

Hi,
My battery gives me around 6 hours of SoT and standby time around 16-18 hours with no gaming, using only internet browsing and social media for the most part.
From what I can see, the idle battery drain is not too bad if the phone is on doze, but the phone is not on doze most of the time during the day.
Also the active battery drain is high.
Any tips on making this better?
I'm on OOS Open Beta 8, on an Op7T with locked bootloader. The issue was same with the latest OOS stable.
Thanks!!

Run Naptime with Google Play Services dozed, run Servicely and block all apps you don't need, install Kirisakura Kernel from the OP7 Pro thread, disable sync when you don't need it, and set the max gpu freq to 585 MHz. You should be able to pull a maximum of 12hrs SOT... It obviously depends on what you're doing. I'm on OB8 as well.
Edit: I'm using Franco Kernel Manager as well, a bunch of the tweaks I suggested can easily be done through there, I highly recommend purchasing it!

Here's a link to Kirisakura Kernel, it needs a couple of magisk mods alongside it to work correctly, make sure to read the thread and install those as well.
Thank you for the advice, man but I'm not rooted..

Hey
Thank you so much for the advice.
I'm sorry I didn't mention it in the main thread that I'm not rooted. Do you have any ideas that don't require root or an unlocked bootloader?
By the way, I'll definitely try the root tweaks after my warranty expires, I had purchased FK Manager for my previous device.

Yeah, both naptime and servicely can be run without root.
Also, unlocking your bootloader doesn't void the warranty on OnePlus devices
