I want to use a bluetooth keyboard with my fire tv and want to get rid of the fire tv remote totally. I can replicate almost all the remote features of the remote - only features that I can't seem to replicate from the keyboard is the menu button (3 parallel lines) and the restart shortcut (Select + Play) from the remote. It would be awesome if I can somehow add global hotkeys for these.
If this kind of app does not exist, I would be happy to develop it - I just need some guidance on how this can be achieved.
Thanks

I don't know about an app which would do this but you might be able to develop something for yourself, some quick hints: have a look at Androids AccessibilityService. You could make one which receives some key event from your remote, swallows it and pushes out the required, mapped key events via a custom InputMethodService... though this topic probably belongs into the Fire TV Development section...

perhaps TheRealQubix of ftvlaunchx could give you some pointers, love your idea and it seems to be related to what ftvlaunchx/LauncherHijack does
let us know if you got that app done

i was wondering if theres anything such as windows-controlling-an-android remote assistance software?
reason why i ask this is because some people are not good with android and they keep asking me for help with it. instead of meeting them up in person I was wondering if its possible to control their android device from Windows?
get the android vnc app from the market
No results found... what's the app called exactly?
Isn't android-vnc something that controls your computer from your phone? Original post requests just the opposite: the ability to control someone's phone from his computer.
Teamviewer??
I any luck yet
I think the OP is looking for the opposite -- Remote support to control the Android device FROM a computer, not controlling a computer from Android
I'm looking for the same thing to help my family out. I currently use VNC and a custom script to do remote PC support.
Droid Explorer, but you need basic adb (android-sdk) installed, but it gives you full control of your phone. You can push apps, take screen shots, and everything inbetween
Search remote web desktop. There is a control addon that works very well, and all in a web interface. No adb necessary.

You can try AirDroid.

Sorry guys, i have bought a tablet for the grandma, and tried to help her many times over phone conversation. She has now the basic skills to the tablet, but as you know the android can be very embarrassing and surprising...
I really need a remote assistance software WITHOUT any rooting and other miserable solutions: just simply install and use.
I feel myself as a victim of a fascist raping. Do you guys or do the manufacturers really think, to help for a 70 years old lady is an extreme requirement?
The tablet: prestigio pmp7070c, fantastic hardware with the looser android. The winmo 6 would be far more better than this miserable android.

You'll have to piece the link together as I'm not yet allowed to post links on XDA.
It's not free. But this will work.
Smart IR Remote for HTC One 1.3.2
You can now use your phone as an Infrared Remote (IR Remote)
Why should you need to use more than one remote for all the devices you own ?
With Smart InfraRed Remote for your HTC One, you can add, create and customize any number of remotes, combining controls from any of your existing remotes. Imagine a single remote on which the CHANNEL UP button controls your Set Top Box from your TV provider, the VOLUME keys control your home theater system and the arrow keys control your TV's menu.
On top of all that, since you're holding a phone, why not use some of it's unique features?
AUTOMATIC MUTE WHEN YOU GET CALLED
Don't you hate it when you receive a call but can't hear the other person because the TV is too loud? Now, Smart Remote can automatically mute your current device when someone calls you.
FLOATING REMOTE (CHATHEAD)
Why should you need to switch apps just to send a command ? Activate Floating Remote in settings, and have a chathead-style remote available just one touch away!
BACKUP / RESTORE
Do you switch ROMs often ? Or maybe reinstall apps daily? The backup/restore feature will help you save your remotes, so you can get them back when you install again, without going through the setup process again!
MACROS
With our new advanced macro system, you can execute a series of commands one after the other (like turning on TV, then switching to HDMI 1), add customizable delays between commands, and reorder the commands as you wish.
AUTOMATED TASKS
Extra flexibility in customizing tasks, like sending any command you choose (like MUTE or POWER OFF) at a time of your choosing, or when your phone rings. Feel free to send us other actions upon which you would want to send IR commands!
With infrared - IR Blaster - already included in your phone, why shouldn't you make the most of it? Smart Remote can control your TV, Set Top Box, Lights, Projectors, etc.. Virtually anything that has an Infrared Receiver can be controlled by Smart Remote with the correct remote codes. And we're working 24/7 on adding more! Actually, we're working on adding DSLR camera support right now!

While that may be true, I have heard that a different developer has filed a complaint with Google because this app would have stolen their database with IR codes. Too bad since this app is way easier to use than the app from the company who complained about it. Not even mentioning the candy - this one looks very nice, much better than that other app which I shall not mention the name of.
By the way, the file posted above is version 1.3.2 while the developer has MOD EDIT: Link Nuked as well. If it comes back in the Play Store I recommend to support the developer - at which time this link should probably be deleted.

Negative, this thread is not gonna happen. No way, no how. A paid app from Google Play or once was on Google Play should NEVER be posted freely about XDA, unless by the developer himself.
If you are the developer of this app and come across this thread, please contact me or another moderator, thank you.
Greetings, newbie question here. My goal is to modify a Amazon Fire TV device to run a single game (Fibbage) at startup. I wanted to place the device in a youth rec center (out of reach of the kids) and have them join/access the game by using their own mobile device(s). I would like the kids to access to the game without use of the remote control. I plan to also give them the ability to reset the game by installing a power/reset toggle button near the TV to reset the system/game with a single push.
The goal is to have the device automatically load this game by default each time the system is restarted. If I needed to periodically update/change the game I would like that ability by using the remote control to access the admin menu.
Is this at all possible? Think of the poor children...

Probably llama would be the easiest. There is documentation on the XBMC Wiki for using Llama to autostart.

Actually, the game hosts a game portal on the web that syncs with he game session. Kids can join by either scanning in a screen q-code or by typing in a 5 digit code provided by the portal. Very cool stuff!
Llama sounds promising. So is there a link that will take me through the actual rooting path using llama? I know I sound like a twit, but I am completely lost with all the different flavors and steps.
I am very grateful, thanks!

Okay, so I made a bit of progress:
a. Installed the FTV utility for Windows.
b. Rooted Fire TV - disabled updates.
c. Installed SBMC
d. Installed Llama
e. Set Llama profiles and conditions to start SBMC automatically (If day = MON-SUN)
Current Issues:
1. I can't seem to call the Fire TV game from the Llama list of applications to auto-launch (it defaults to android apps, not FireTv apps). It seems like there is a d-mark between the android apps I side-load and the applications that are purchased for the unit.
2. Now that I have root access, are there native Fire TV commands that I can run to auto-start the game at startup? Similar tot he disable updates command.
This is getting interesting. Thanks!
I keep on reading that the Fire TV Stick is supposed to have this dedicated free app to control be able to control it from your android device (and ios coming soon...blah blah) and use voice search from your phone/tablet also....but I can't find where to download it!! Don't know if it will even work to Fire TV but it would be pretty dumb if they didn't allow it too!!
Anybody know how and where to get this app??
Had my fire tv at my girlfriends house and her little crazy dog has destroyed 2 remotes so I bought her a chromecast and brought the Fire TV back home. I leave 1tb backup drive connected to the usb to play movies through xbmc and everytime I leave the house and come back I have to disconnect it, plug in wireless keyboard, start droidmote server, reconnect drive and remount using stickmounte...it's a waste of a whole 60 seconds but still a pain!!
I don't believe it has been released yet. Still two more weeks or so until the fire tv sticks start shipping, I would expect to see it before then.

Why you must start droidmote server manually ? It should start automatically if in settings you have checked auto start on boot.

I see that one can install the server on Windows. But can the client be installed on Windows. Planning on switching from an Android table to a full Windows 8.1 Tablet in the future. But could not find a reference of Windows 8.1 being the client to control the FTV. Not so much for games but mouse & keyboard inputs.

Zulu,
Any plans to get droidmote on the Amazon App Store? I would be happy to pay a premium on it there since I could use my amazon coins to buy it....
I would like a lot, but I can not for now for a question of the security of the app. It is not easy to be an Android app developer, despite the applications are very cheap, there is always someone ready to rip you off and because of this, there is often more work to do on the protection that on the app.
I think the Google Play should be installable for FREE on any Android devices. (like the Amazon app store) I do not understand why it should be sold by GMS license from Google if it contains apps that are owned by the developers. I hope that this serious problem of the Android world will be solved soon.

Any idea how to force the setting menu to open with a wireless keyboard?? I see the 3dot menu on the google play pics but don't have it on the app on my fire TV...even downloaded the 3dot xposed module but no luck! I know that the fire stick remote app is officially being released tmrw but really like this app and is probably still gonna be more useful than the official remote app!

Yes you can use the menu button of DroidMote Client.
Aside from that, I wanted to make a clarification:
The circle icon that you see when you move the mouse, is not a DroidMote stuff. If you use the Server on a standard Android device, you can see the classic mouse icon.
Instead the TouchMouse (for apps without mouse support, selectable by client settings ) is a DroidMote stuff and is the red transparent circle. But it is another thing.
Why your FireTv show the circle instead of the classic mouse icon ?
Because those who built the firmware has changed this icon replacing it with a really ugly in the Android Framework.
Where is the mouse icon inside the Android Framework ?
You can read this link to know, but do not try to change if you're not an expert on the Android OS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1478523
P.S.
Android is an operating system that is constantly changing and all the apps within it change so fast-paced.
To have a good remote control, you need a lot of work and testing on many applications during the evolution of the OS.
For example with Android Lollipop, Android has been completely changed from the ground up, and it took a lot of work to adapt to it.
A good application for remote control, can only exist if a developer follows her and love her everyday, adapting to all the innovations, to apps and games that constantly change.
This is what I do every day.

Sorry for not being clearer - when I opened the app ALL I would see on the screen was the "big red circular button" in the center of the screen - the one that says off, not the cursor. But after using my keyboard to "click" the "button" and turn the service on I was able to use the client app to open up the setting and set it to start on boot

When you saw the red circle was because, inadvertently, in the settings of the Client you have selected the TouchMouse without selecting a correct TouchProfile.
The TouchMouse is useful when an app not have the mouse support. In all other circumstances, you can always use the mouse as rightly made at a later date.

Hey guys,
Has anyone an idea how to completely remove already paired/linked (App-)remote controls without factory-resetting the whole Fire TV Stick 4K (as described in the manual and several places on the web)? I can't believe there's no option to do this via adb/console. Is there?
Share your thoughts.
Any help is appreciated!

You can remove the remote from the settings menu. If the remote is not working, you can install the Amazon Fire TV Remote on your phone, and use it to remove the remote.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.storm.lightning.client.aosp
You can also use a keyboard to remove the remote if you have an OTG cable, and if you can find the menu key on the keyboard. The menu key is needed to confirm remote removal.
There is probably a way to remove it with adb, but I can't help with that.

True, but only the hardware remote, not the ones created by the app. They just pile up and no option to remove them again. That's the problem I have.
