Smart IR Remote for HTC One 1.3.2
You can now use your phone as an Infrared Remote (IR Remote)
Why should you need to use more than one remote for all the devices you own ?
With Smart InfraRed Remote for your HTC One, you can add, create and customize any number of remotes, combining controls from any of your existing remotes. Imagine a single remote on which the CHANNEL UP button controls your Set Top Box from your TV provider, the VOLUME keys control your home theater system and the arrow keys control your TV's menu.
On top of all that, since you're holding a phone, why not use some of it's unique features?
AUTOMATIC MUTE WHEN YOU GET CALLED
Don't you hate it when you receive a call but can't hear the other person because the TV is too loud? Now, Smart Remote can automatically mute your current device when someone calls you.
FLOATING REMOTE (CHATHEAD)
Why should you need to switch apps just to send a command ? Activate Floating Remote in settings, and have a chathead-style remote available just one touch away!
BACKUP / RESTORE
Do you switch ROMs often ? Or maybe reinstall apps daily? The backup/restore feature will help you save your remotes, so you can get them back when you install again, without going through the setup process again!
MACROS
With our new advanced macro system, you can execute a series of commands one after the other (like turning on TV, then switching to HDMI 1), add customizable delays between commands, and reorder the commands as you wish.
AUTOMATED TASKS
Extra flexibility in customizing tasks, like sending any command you choose (like MUTE or POWER OFF) at a time of your choosing, or when your phone rings. Feel free to send us other actions upon which you would want to send IR commands!
With infrared - IR Blaster - already included in your phone, why shouldn't you make the most of it? Smart Remote can control your TV, Set Top Box, Lights, Projectors, etc.. Virtually anything that has an Infrared Receiver can be controlled by Smart Remote with the correct remote codes. And we're working 24/7 on adding more! Actually, we're working on adding DSLR camera support right now!

I actually purchased this from the play store when it was up there. I liked the app and wanted to support the DEV. I wonder why it disappeared.
I think he said he didn't have time to work on it anymore so he made it open source

While that may be true, I have heard that a different developer has filed a complaint with Google because this app would have stolen their database with IR codes. Too bad since this app is way easier to use than the app from the company who complained about it. Not even mentioning the candy - this one looks very nice, much better than that other app which I shall not mention the name of.
By the way, the file posted above is version 1.3.2 while the developer has MOD EDIT: Link Nuked as well. If it comes back in the Play Store I recommend to support the developer - at which time this link should probably be deleted.

I have asked the developer of the app to comment on this thread. Let's wait and see what is he is able to share with us.
Thank You
Someone post apk fudge a rar.

Negative, this thread is not gonna happen. No way, no how. A paid app from Google Play or once was on Google Play should NEVER be posted freely about XDA, unless by the developer himself.
If you are the developer of this app and come across this thread, please contact me or another moderator, thank you.

Just started using this and I think it is awesome. You can use you're phone as a mouse and keyboard what is really cool is on the glide the hardware keyboard works well. You just have to instal a software on you're computer then gmote from google play. For a media center PC this rocks!

Unified remote (pro). Does everything gmote does along with support for dragging and it keeps the connection alive in the status bar. Also it as like a billion other remotes included (notably file manager and vlc remote).
gmote allows for dragging simply press the mouse button top right then drag. Guess their are many of these out there. First 1 I try that I like is gmote but I am sure others are just as good.
Oh right. Forgot about that button. Don't get me wrong, gmotes decent. I used it for the better part of two years. I just got sick of having to reconnect to the server all the time, especially when switching from phone to tablet and back.
Good to know. I'll give it a try with my xbmc box. Sometimes I do need to go back into windows for some stuff. Otherwise I'm happy with the xbmc remote on android .

Phone My PC and Advanced TouchPad are good as well.
They auto connect to the ip address given, and the both have mouse and keyboard. Plus Phone My PC let's you see the desktop from anywhere in your home(good for keeping an eye on your kids).
Unified Remote (free) - no remotes to try, gmote - no bluetooth. Other favs?

Tried Unified Remote based on this recommendation, but despite showing many free remotes to try in the description, no remotes are present except for buy now.
Looked at gmote, but no bluetooth.
From what I see in the description, Phone My PC doesn't do bluetooth.
Advanced TouchPad also doesn't appear to be bluetooth, and really does appear to be touchpad focused, with only a few very plain looking keys beside it. Which is fine, just not what I'm looking for.
(First driving reason for search - Impress remote. And if one is going to go down the 'remote' path, it may as well be as flexible / capable as whatever is out there. i.e. Given the other similar apps out there, no point going for something that only does Impress.)
UPDATE CORRECTION: Free remotes are present. But if portable version loaded from a network drive, Windows won't load the .dll's - which appears to the Android user as though no remote controls are present. [Serves me right for remote controlling a machine via VNC - missed the quick .dll load failed message!]
Tried unified remote and I like it.I have infrared on my computer from a uirt and am thinking of getting the pros to control my surround sound.anyone tested that? I read it was supposed to support it but I could not find the app to learn the it codes.

Its play link is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Relmtech.Remote and contains a support pointer to http://www.unifiedremote.com/.
On their page is a Hardware link along the top, going to http://www.unifiedremote.com/hardware, at the bottom of which they show a USB-UIRT and more information. $50 + $8 S/H.
So, it would seem to be confirmed that it supports it. It talks about a forum being at http://65.36.202.170/phpBB2/. And also points to http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=26 and http://www.avsforum.com/ for additional information.
'UIRT' - Universal Infrared Receiver Transmitter, so there must be an emitter in the works. The page talks about Girder (http://www.promixis.com/), $50 / $100 / $150, Standard / Pro / WHT - all Windows only.
I would guess you use Unified Remote to tell the pc to emit the codes to your equipment. I'll bet it will take time to train yourself to pick up the glide and not the remote. (Or hide them on yourself. Not sure this would help with a problem I have - perpetually picking up the wrong remote and wondering why it's not working. Only to get blasted by the radio station when I thought I was changing channels!)
HTH.
I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII and just made my first NFC-steps using some Samsung TecTiles tabs.
After trying a few NFC apps from the Google play, I have a few basic questions.
While basic functions like p.ex. switching Bluetooth are available in all apps, other functions like p.ex. showing a pop-up, text-to-speech or calendar functions are only available in only in one particular app.
Is there a predefined set of nfc-functions for any given android version or the app-author is basically free to program any function he can think of?
I tried to import a tag in one app which i previously have written with another app. This didn't always succeed. I could understand that there is a problem with importing special functions which are unknow to an app, but at least the basic tag and the basic functions should be recognised by all nfc-apps.
As the nfc-apps progress, will we see new functions/possibilities or will it stay about at the present level as the available functions are limited by android?
My device is locked, mainly because it was mandatory by a VPN installation.
Is there a way to unlock it 'automatically' thru NFC? I know this can be a security issue, but it would be so handy just p.ex. to put the phone in the car-holder and it would automatically go to the home screen or the car screen, and also during driving its annoying when the device has a time lock and needs to be unlocked in the middle of an intersection......
What is the power consumption of the nfc-module in the S3?
Thanks for your input.

There is a set of predefined nfc-functions, (like open a webpage, vcard, open an app..) but this set is very very limited and even the mentioned Bluetooth function is not included .... in fact, bluetooth needs a little hacking, because the official api does not support to turn on bluetooth without asking the user .....so basically a developer can (/ has to!) implement every function he wants, but in reality a lot of functions are blocked on non-rooted devices, because android defined them as security related....
I tried to import a tag in one app which i previously have written with another app. This didn't always succeed. As mentioned the basic set is very limited.... it´s based on the nfc forum specifications and using nfc to control your device, is something these guys never had in mind ....so, sure you could use some standard nfc writer and write a webpage on a tag..... and this should be something every nfc device (not only android, but also blackberry, windows phone etc...) could handle .... but if you want to control your device, you need a more sophisticated app .... and there is no way to import a tag from one app to another ...
As the nfc-apps progress, will we see new functions/possibilities or will it stay about at the present level as the available functions are limited by android?

The functions are limited by android .... and my feeling is, that with every android update it get´s more limited! --> on Gingerbread, nfc was enabled while screen was off --> a function they skipped with ICS (ok, again, on a rooted device you could change the NFC.apk, to re-enable it) ... the last JB update declared the airplane modes as a security feature ... so no luck with airplane mode since 4.2 ...only to mention 2 examples ...don´t get me wrong, I don´t think it will stay at the present level, but it´s definitiv not in googles focus yet .... personally, I have a lot of new functions and use cases on my ToDo list, so I would say it´s just the beginning
My device is locked, mainly because it was mandatory by a VPN installation.

Hi @ all
As already mentioned in the "3rd party ir app" thread, I'm working on a TV-B-GONE like app for the HTC One.
The app should be capable to:
• Sync tv-off-codes with an online database
• Send all known (in database) codes out through IR blaster
• Learn an off code and upload to database for other users
All these features maybe already work, but I can't test it as I don’t have my HTC ONE yet!
So if you wanna try, download it from and here and give me some feedback in the thread
• There is a good chance that the app doesn’t even start – I can't test any of the IR blaster related functions! – That’s why I need you until I get my phone
• The app sends bug reports to me using bugsense – you can disable this feature in the options if you don't want to send reports! If you disable and get an force close -> please send me the logcat
• The database view is not fully implemented, you can list vendors and search for models but if you click on vendor / model nothing will happen
• Database sync on startup can be disabled in settings
• The Database is EMPTY now(except of one vendor), so don’t wonder if nothings getting synced
Used permissions:
• INTERNET -> For online syncing
• ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE -> To pre-check if sync is possible (not in flight mode)
Future:
• Making the app fully work.
• Making a universal remote app with database sync. So any user can scan his codes (not only power off codes), tag them, create remote layouts, upload schemes for a device, etc. Usable for any IR device (tv, hifi, Roomba, etc)
Changelog
(04.05.2013) Version 0.5:
• old IR blaster control
• send code when click on model name in model search box
(03.05.2013) Version 0.5:
• debug toasts
• new IR blaster control
• send all codes on main thread
(03.05.2013) Version 0.4:
• Bugfix where local recorded codes were not sent out
• Removed test buttons
• Learn-Timeout can be adjust in app settings
(03.05.2013) Version 0.3:
• New Send command used, maybe works now with "all off"
• Some test buttons to debug
(02.05.2013) Version 0.2:
• New Code format (sorry, had to purge the whole database). Old Version will not work anymore.
• Some Bugfixes
• Update check on startup
Download link of version 0.6

I'll take the plunge
Will let you know how it goes.
Theres already a new entry for a "dreambox" so recording codes (can) work.
Thx for trying!

Ok. So given her a spin.
nothing happened lol.
installed fine. I have a LG tv and a virgin TiVo digital box (made by Cisco)
when you go to the search box, enter just moves down to the next line. it doesn't "enter" if that makes sense.
See attached pics anyway.
Hope it helps.
Thanks for the info.
That was excepted - you see vendors "sony" (dummy vendor by me) and vendor "" (empty, ill catch that in the next version) which someone who uploaded a code for a dreambox. As mentioned before, database view is not fully implemeted, you only see vendors ("Sony" and "") and models("dreambox") which other ussrr uploaded until now. Please try recording an offcode for one of your devices
Cool.
Sorry, I must of originally miss understood. Thought you had just added Dreambox to the list of others.
Ill keep an eye out for when you add LG on there
Keep up the good work though. What exactly is the end purpose of the app?
From what I can see, it would be a perfect app for me to prank friends and family whilst at home messing with the TV "quickly" instead of going through setting up the tv first.
:victory:
Downloaded.
Was going to try with the TV at my office but its LG also.
Ill test at home with a Samsung and a Panny.
Hi and thanks for this app, i was able to learn 2 codes, it turned off my TVs when using "Test Code (ir)" button before uploading, but once uploaded (the Panasonic one and a Samsung one are mines) i can't use "all off!" command, i'm still stuck at "Sending codes : 4/10" and then it FC ...
Maybe you could add a tool to try code from database (when pushing on a brand name, sending all codes for this brand) and to avoid duplicates ...
ps : sorry for my english

Thanks guys for downloading and testing.
I think there is a little misunderstanding here -> i dont add vendors or devices or codes (at least not until i get my HTC ONE finally).
Its you, the useres, which upload codes. If you enter a model or a vendor which is unknown for the database, it will be created and then usable for everybody else.
@scarabe17
Thanks for the feedback. The force closes is becasue there are some wrong ir codes (data is invalid) in the database from failed uploads. will be fixed in the next version.
I have a lot of ideas what to implement in the app, and as mentioned before, the "tv-b-gone" functionalty (send all known off-codes) will be only a "special function".
The end purpose is an universal IR remote app, with community driven code uploads for all kind of devices and codes (not only power off).
There will be a "layout editor" where you can create your own layout with custom buttoms mapped to custom functions, and you will can share that with other users.
regards
antifish
This will be something cool
Please note, there is version 0.2 now!
Dont use 0.1 anymore, new codes will not work and upload will not be possible!
I had to purge the whole database (sorry to you who already uploaded a code) the format in database was a bad choice.
(details: i used java objectwriterstream to serialize the IR data, and if HTC will change something in that class it cant be serialized back without some trouble, so i changed to a json format)
also there should (hopefully) be less force closses.
and there is a check for updates, so you will notice when i upload the next version
uploaded my panasoic tv model
would be nice here to keep an update of model list cause apps, only show sony.
Also you should add a Vol + button cause at the end its more annoying in shops to set volume to the max than turn tv off

db synced, model showing, but not working.
you should apply for htc ir api for get codes, cause if you fill the db only with ppl having a htc one member of xda, i doubt you ll reach 50 models

"Timeout"

what do you mean with "not working"? The database view actually does nothing when clicking on a model or vendor, thats not integrated yet. The only thing which should happen is that when you press "all off" it should turn off your tv :fingers-crossed:
I have the HTC IR API but it does not provide access to the integrated code database (or i don't know how). I'll decompile a ROM to look after the codes when i have time, maybe i find something! Its no easy to try these things as i dont have a HTC ONE at the moment (still waiting)...
I hope that the next HTC models will all have the IR blaster integrated! And when the app is ready i hope that it gets more response and codes in the play store.
When i got time and be in the mood i'll have a look at the galaxy S4, as it have an IR blaster integrated too, and it would be nice to have an app that support every pontetial model.

Okay, maybe the data is corrupt (in the database), the scanning of the IR code is not as good on the ONE
as desired, or there is a bug in sending the codes.

always the same

NFC-AAAC or NFC Assisted App Access and Control
Pretext:
I have 2 children under the age of 3, all of their content (audio/video) is digital accessed. This created a disconnection for them, as they are not able to play /change the content unless my wife or I change it for them. I know there is an interest for them to be able to change the content themselves as when we have Netflix or Pandora open on the touch enables screens they are all was trying to pick the show/music they like. The few places where they do have a physical medium to play content,
The DVD player/CD player (note we have it backed up digitally), there is much interest with the “desk”. The kids would love nothing more to remove and replace it over and over. Watching this behavior over some time has lead me to believe that a simpler solution would/could be doable.
This brings me to NFC tags, with a few add-on programs the NFC tag can be scripted to perform most complicated input tasks.
Goal:
To provide access to complicated tasks via NFC.
To allow a person of limited physical input abalaty to use smart phone tech.
This can include, the disabled, the young, the old. To allow access to tasks/apps while driving or when attention is needed other places.
Current Scope:
Create tags for a radio station that can be quickly taped to change station/play album.
( Keeping the driver form looking at their phone while driving). Create tags that auto play Netflix/Amazon Prime/YouTube/Google +/etc videos.
This may include second screen casting Create tags to autolaunch/call via Skype/cell phones
Want to call grandma? Or have grandma get on Skype, etc. Create tags to attach to things around the house foods/shapes/flashcards etc.
When was this put in the fridge?
Send text to let people know the item is all gone etc.
What was this called.
Call support.
Where I'm at:
I'm currently gathering URIs / intents for the tasks described.
I will be using a combination of the “NFC task launcher” and “Tasker” to complete the tasks.
I will be following up with more detailed guide on how to set up functions/tasks.What I am looking for:
Help locating the URI / intents to call to complete tasks.
More tasks, Do have someone you know / you yourself finding something more complicated than it should be let me know and we can discuss how to fix.
Current URI list
Note Most if not all the URIs are undocumented aka may stop working, I will try to keep the list up-to-date. Please let me know if any stop working.

All of the custom URIs prefixes are in the apps manifest.
If I'm lucky I can simply type it into google and find someone else that's done the work, (to get the data argument)
If not I used JD-GUI to look over the source code to trace the Android Intent path and see what the app is looking for.
Another way is to see is if the app has a web app interface. Aka if I go to the web site or get a share link, does the app autolunch the content.
I was a little confused with your question, hope this answers it.
Thanks for the interest.

I have no idea, but same issue here.
Saw the LinusTechTips video on the 10 Pro and saw he had the option to change what the smart key did, but when I got my device last week I found it missing said options.

Just spit-balling here, as I don't have the phone....
Just to rule everything else out, have you looked in "Developer Options"
If it's not listed there, the only other thing that comes to mind is look for a hidden shortcut, either with an app from the play store, or, if you have Nova Launcher, use its shortcut function to search for it.
If all else fails, I'd look around here in the XDA TCL forums for someone that might have a device with the .apk to extract & share, or, reach out to TCL for the app/request a software update to include it.
Perhaps some of the YouTubers who've got this phone can help out/share an apk.....
Glad I checked out this section, I'd be tee'd to find this out after the fact.

Can you extract the apk from your other TCL device, see if it works on your 10 Pro?
Nothing in the Developer Options and as far as I can see, nothing showed up in Nova Launcher plus I looked up system apps in settings but nothing there either.
I have reached out to TCL via Facebook, the first time they just sent me a link to a photo telling me what the smart key can do, but I've asked again..
It's not a big deal, but it would be nice to change it so I don't access the google assistant all the time when I accidentally press the button.
Software version?
It's in the latest build, and was there our the box as well (advanced features), that's strange it's not showing for you.

I eventually managed to fork the apk without root and install it on the Pro but it doesn't do anything. Probably it must be installed as a system app but without root it's impossible + the Pro has an extra setting for the "Google Assistant" button which surely interferes with Smart Key.
If you have the Plex, then you probably have the T799H (green EU) variant of the TCL 10 Pro.
The T799B (gray US/CAN) variant has the smart key settings and a different accessibility menu

Correct, I have the T799H. It's unfortunate there are such differences but it's a shame they just removed the Smart Key with the latest update on the TCL 10l as well.

Well, I bet your fingerprint shortcuts actually work, they don't work at all on the T799B.
And as a consolation, that green T799H is beautiful and not available in the US yet.

That is something I'm never gonna use as it's clunky and unnatural.
Finally have some options for me (UK phone).
Late this afternoon I received an update to V2.0.4D.H.J, and in accessibility settings I can change the google assistant options on the smart key, but can't do anything else like re-map it to another app or change what various presses do.
At last I can turn it off because I keep pressing it when I don't want to.
If anyone still looking here is the Smart Key app apk file from my T799b US version.
Smart Key v3.1947.18.1029.0

Thnk you Jay for posting the apk.
I have the same issue uith my T770H_EEA and I try with Jay apk but unfortunately doesn't work. Apk installed successfully, I manage to configure the features for Smart Key, restart phone but nothing happens when I press it.
I have the last software version installed
V. 2.0. 3C. J. 1.
You issue might be that when you install Smart Key, It is not a system app but a user app therefore it might not save the "system settings". There might be a command in adb to make a user app into a system app. Without root on our device I am not sure. My phone a T799B does show it as a system app.
When you install it does Smart key show up in settings under advanced features?
Screenshots below from my T799B
You also might need 1 extra apk file from the device called smart-divert. May all work together.
I uploaded some system apps here:

Disable assistant launch from settings, then install Button Mapper from Play market and do anything with any button you have on your phone.
