Hi all,
We all know how hard it is to find a good Tempered glass for a smartphone with curving edge display,
That also the case with our Pixel 2 XL
Luckily, finally i managed to found tempered glass that has full adhesive, case friendly, and doesn't break our bank account,
Here's the product : Tempered Glass for Google Pixel 2XL Screen Protector FULL GLUE Case Friendly Premium Screen Glass Protector For Google Pixel2XL
http://s.aliexpress.com/qqYVbYFZ?fromSns=Copy to Clipboard
(from AliExpress Android)
Price : $11.77 include free shipping,
It took week till it arrive to my door. Item shipped from Hongkong, am living in Indonesia
Packaging : its good and safe. Tempered glass placed inside a sterofoam box .
Installation : Now, this is the tricky part, although it has full adhesive, the installation wont go as simple as installing other (ex iPhone) full adhesive TG. It (the adhesive) tends to spread unevenly causing bubble.
The trick is to go from the corner, while keep the other corner floating, press the glass with two or more finger ensuring no bubble appear in the process.
It will take sometimes till you get it right with zero bubble,
But the result is rewarding. It perfectly fit, and can be used with cases as well. I use it with original google fabric case.

Sorry, forgot to turn off the portrait mode
Yes. Doesn't look like it cuts off the edges too badly. What I was waiting on but not sure I want to deal with Ali.

It was quite gambling for me as well, lol,
But since i have no other option available in my country, u guess i have nothing to lose for 12 bucks.
Now am waiting a case to arrive
Looks good. I just don't understand why they make the top and bottom black instead of clear if it is full adhesive.
I'm guessing this is the same product as HeroShield. Looks the same. My HeroShield should arrive in a few weeks, so we'll see.
Does it have a cut out for the proximity sensor? I don't mean just a transparent window, proper gap/no glass bit over the sensor. I can't see from the photos
how is the screen feel and oleophobic coating? Does the finger glide eaily on the screen?

Its because although the adhesive on the display area is full, there's lil gap on the edge area where it doesn't have the adhesive, i guess due to the curve, it still not possible to create fully transparent glass protector with full adhesive. I never seen one for popular phone like iphone either. All iphone x glass protector has coloring as well.
The only real transparent protector with full adhesive is whitestone probably, but thats using low viscosity loca to begin with, so its different story, not to mention the skyhigh price.

It doesn't. It have a transparent window with adhesive under . It stick perfectly though, thus no interference to the proximity function. I try make a call and place finger over the sensor, it work normally

Nothing extraordinary regarding the coating i guess. Finger glide nicely just like on original screen. But it collecting fingerprint overtime. (Am one of those guy who have wet hand all the time though, so my experience with fingerprint might be severe than how it should) :silly:
ordered! hope it will arrive soon!
btw do you have to tear it out to re position it when you are applying on the screen?

You need to lift it off if you already stick large area of it prior to reposition,
Positioning is quite easy though, the harder part is to push the glass slow and even.
I'd almost be interested, but I try to stay away from protectors that cover the proximity sensor. I know it works sometimes, I've just been bitten by it too many times on phones where it causes issues.
Here's HeroShield's install video. Seems like they include a squeegee with theirs to help with the bubbles.
Mine comes today, so I'll see what it's like too.

Can see from the video that it has glass covering the sensor, so it will be hit or miss. Some will have no issues with the sensor. Others will.
Mine will be here in a few weeks, so I'll see then too.
Hi OP... Are you able to post some picts of the top and bottom edge of the phone? Or a pict that can somehow show the gap of the side of the protector to where it meets the screen. Just curious to see if there is a slight gap as there is no adhesive there. Since I go case less, I am afraid I will always crack the glass because of this gap. Thanks in advance!
Something like this ?
Those picts are good!!! thanks!!!
Got the phone few days ago. Most of the time, fingerprint works on first or second attempts. But now and then it takes 4-5 attempts. and on two occasions i had to try 8-9 times to get it to work. Is it a problem only i am facing or its a common problem? i already updated phone after buying. should i get it replaced or it will be ok with next update
Thanks.
common problem i think. not as fast as the previous one on N9
Well, it is not widespread or "common", some users complain about this, but this issue has been discussed at lenght since the first days of this device, do a search, you will find some useful tips, My sensor is very fast and accurate, I think it depends on several factors, temp, moisture, the way you registered the fingers, screen protectors, etc
Also, register the same finger multiple times... I believe you can add 5 fingerprints....
I understand what you are talking about. I was so frustrated with the phone when I first got it. I deleted all my finger prints and then set them up again. Make sure to slowly follow the fingerprint instructions when adding. I added multiple fingers and some more than once. I have not had any issues since. I have also read some people say remove the factory screen protector. I still have mine on with no issues. Good luck!

did you have the same issue as mine? like u had to make several attempts and sometimes even 8-9 times to make it work?
only time I've had problems with mine is when my hands have been extremely dry, putting slight moisture on my finger can make it scan better, but for the most part it works perfect unless I'm somewhere hot and dry.
I have similar issues when I have a screen protector on the phone. Sometimes I have to press multiple times, sometimes I have to press harder. Finally going without anything on the screen and the sensor works like a charm.
Screen touch sensitivity.
On my Note 10+ 5G (SM-N976U) I have a setting on the Display page (scroll down near the bottom) that increases touch sensitivity specifically for use with screen protectors. The screen itself is Gorilla Glass 6, which is twice as strong as Gorilla Glass 5, so, if you are the careful sort, you can get by without a glass protector. Even with an extra curved glass protector, with touch sensitivity turned up, I can use light gloves & still the capacitance works fine.
Touch sensitivity has nothing to do with the fingerprint sensor.
Mine works perfect with screen protector. Sure if you put new screen peotector, it takes time to recognise finger. But when protector sits perfect than no prob at all.

Mine drives me mad , adding finger prints mostly does not work , i cant record my thumb print at all , was wondering if the sensor is not correct under the screen ,its always hit or miss on my phone , with my wifes note 10 there are no problems

the sensor works well as long as you don't have dry hands, lick your finger/thumb and it will work every time, sad but true. it's something I realise after it working flawlessly while drinking in a beer garden with condensed glasses but the rest of the time it was hit and miss. seems if your skin is too dry it doesn't read well, but add a bit moisture and it works perfectly. guess it has something to do with the technology in the new sensor using vibration instead of imaging.

Yes, lick your finger everytime you want it to work in the midst of a pandemic that seems to be spread by the virus getting transmitted from the hands to the face everytime you touch it...
You can also try this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10+/themes/fingerprint-speed-hack-t4071893
No need to lick fingers now...
Excellent advice from ultramag69, this mostly solved my problem, but I'm not happy with Samsung, This problem should not happen on such an expensive device from a famous brand

The other advice I've found is to set up multiple finger prints with the same finger (you can usually set 5 fingerprints). This will improve the hit rate of the fingerprint sensor...

Personally running there tempered glass. And I must say. I love it. No camera cut out. Cheap and they work great. But as usual 15 sec cure then press for 45 sec on the fingerprint sensor then full cure and it works great. And you can not tell it's on the phone.
Also got a pack of there tpu's. I never have bare glass and had these incase I messed up. Cheap and great. They took what I consider to be the best install method for these "how zag does it" no dust at all. These are pretty much a clone of the zaggs and that's not really a bad thing as far as the install method. The finger print scanner is actually faster then using the stock Samsung protector and is pretty close to bare glass.
Good stuff. Just remember to press on that sensor prior to your final cure and it works great. And no Nast dust around the camera cut out. And FYI selfy camera no visible impact to image quality and the proximity sensor works flawless.
Can you provide some pictures? Thank you

Yeah I'll take some tomorrow. Anything you wanna see? The membrane ones look like invisishield and the glass you can't tell it's on since it's full cover with no camera hole.
Crappy can and angle but in person you can't tell anything is on it. That's the glass one.
I'd really hate having to spend $50 dollars on a new Whitestone protector. I've seen some cheaper alternatives on Alibaba for the Note 10 and S10 series, but nothing for the S20 Ultra. Any alternative suggestions other than leave the default film protector for now?
So I used to use the Whitestone Dome on all my phones but I found out that assurion has a screen only replacement for phones, I paid a deductible of $35 for my S10+ and someone came to my house and fixed my phone. Since this day, I stopped buying screen protector
Note. I have no idea if the Ultra will have the same screen replacement program, I assume it does.
I have been using whitestone since the S8+.
Rarely do I get a perfect install, but today I got pretty close on my S10 ultra. Bubble free, some small specs of dust that you don't see unless on an all-white screen.
It was an easier install this time due to the curved edges being reduced to much less of a curve.

I just found out about the whitestone and this was my first time using one. I learned the hard way that a perfectly level surface is not a suggestion. So first install was an utter fail. I used the backup screen and it went ok, had to wait for like 5 minutes for the liquid to fully spread. i assume this was from the failed first attempt. Once it fully spread, i moved the screen around to get it perfectly placed so that i couldn't see any air pockets underneath the corners. then i used the UV light to cure it and everything looks great now.
To answer your question, the fingerprint reader has worked flawless for me. Since i immediately put on the protector, i didnt get to use the finger print reader much before. So its hard to compare, but there is minimal delay for me for it reading the finger print. Honestly 90% of the time the camera picks up my face and unlocks before i have the chance to use the finger print.

I had the same issues and since I never used a glass and yet alone a wet application screen protector I botched the first one. The adhesive didn't roll down the then little circle and I accidentally tilted it to the right. Everything went wrong. Cleaned it went for the 2nd one and I was super careful after letting the adhesive out. It was still a bit to the side but I was able to slightly tilt it and center the drop. Once I pulled the tab it spread as evenly as it could have but I had a slight air bubble on the top left. I waited about 2min but it wasn't moving so I applied slight pressure from right to left to spread it a bit and it ended up spreading evenly after.
Idk if I ****ed it up again but we will see if it holds. It feels and looks amazing and I'm glad to get rid of the oem film as that **** scratches by breathing on it.

My OEM protector had nicks and scratches out of the box...
Pretty much same scenario you described. Put mine on Tuesday night and no issues so far. I think we will be fine so long as you had no air bubbles before the curing.
I Noticed a tiny delay when using the screen protector. I did re-enroll my fingers, but it was slightly faster for me with the oem protector. (which offers only scratch protection)
Do you guys believe the S20 Series of device would be fine with non loca screenprotectors? those available for practically all other flat screen devices? since the screen isn't curved that extreme anymore.
Seems a tad faster than the Note 10+ with the Domeglass protector.
Something changed with these protectors over the last year. I used to get perfect installations every time. Last 4 had bubbles even though I follow the instructions to the letter. These will also crack VERY easily. Think this may be my last DG..

Just bought S22 6.1" and fingerprint scanner is failing a lot with me. My S21 I don't even have to press hard and it is rare to miss with it.
I have model S901E with snapdragon, on AVA7.
Same phone but what's S901E - isn't that 1U? Anyways, the fp sensor is perfectly accurate on mine, an instant reaction.

Good to know, never saw the E on galaxy models before. And you have problems the fp sensor? I hated it on S10 models but that was different sensor, the current one worked fine on my S21 and now the S22 sensor is perfect too. I registered twice my right hand thumb and 2x right index finger they both work with even a short touch.

On my S21, it just needed a light touch with a very light press. But now I realize one thing. I did not pill off the screen protector that came with S22. In fact, it is not a screen protector for daily use. Do you think it is the reason fingerprint is worse than s10

yes, that plastic foil wrap won't let the scanner read your fingerprint. It's not optical but rather like a mini radar scanning the print ridges on your finger tip.

S21 came with screen protector, but a real one. Simple but it did the job. And fingerprint worked perfectly. I thought I could keep this upper plastic that came with s22 until my screen protector was delivered. I'm gonna try without it.
I exchanged my S22 yesterday because the fingerprint sensor was failing so often (plus random, 20 minute long network disconnects). I lost my preorder storage upgrade, but the new device works perfectly.
have you tried to remove current fingerprints and add new ones?

With a screen protector, it failed every time for me.
I'm using the Omotion that I bought on Amazon.
I did try removing the current prints and adding new ones with little luck. In this case it will work 1 in 10 tries if you press very hard.
Remove screen protector, works perfectly.
As I'm looking for another screen protector, I'm checking reviews for any comments on "fingerprint"

Go with the Amfilm "Hybrid" glass. Glass still works poorly on Ultrasonic sensors, so you want a TPU or "hybrid" (semi-hard plastic) protector to have it work properly. These are the same material (and IMHO better quality) than the Zagg protectors they're trying to charge $50 for.
Also you can increase the touch sensitivity. My scanner is hit or miss with my glass protector but I'd take protection over the fingerprint scanner. I wish Samsung went optical and this wouldn't be an issue.
