Hi all,
My wife loves watching youtube videos on 1.75-2x speed. We noticed that the sound specially on music played in the video is very distorted/muffled/sounds like youre underwater. This doesn't happen on the iPhone 7 Plus we switched from. I searched all over and couldn't find anything on this other than an old article regarding Android 5.0 where you can disable something called "nuplayer" in developer settings but I don't see this option.
This has been confirmed to happen on both of our Note 10 Plus' on Android 9.
Any help trying to figure this out will be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you!
Another interesting find is that this also happens on PC! What the heck did Apple do different?! This sucks big time.
I guess case closed. This is a "normal" occurrence.
I think it's the video as I just done it and it sounded ok to me so must be the video and how the sound is coded

Yeah, I'm not too sure! My wife sent me a couple links to test and they both had the same issue. She complains that most videos she watches has that issue. Anything from music to background noises on planes and such (she watches a lot of traveling/food vlogs). I'll PM you a link for the video I'm talking about as I'm not allowed to post links yet.
When the music kicks in, it sounds distorted. This doesn't happen on the iPhone. I really don't understand what would cause this.
Ok I'll have a listen to it now and report back to you

I guess another thing is that it may sound normal to people who are used to it. But if you have an Apple device to test and compare it to, you'd be able to tell the difference right away. When I first heard it, I thought she was crazy until she showed me the difference on our old iPhones. Then it left me wondering why it would do this. Some more articles I stumbled upon mentioned CPU processing power when setting it to a faster playback but I can't imagine the Note 10 Plus being inferior to the iphone 7 plus in processing power.
I couldn't find video or got inbox also dont have an iphone lol

any tweak for full screen youtube? there are 2 apps in the market please and neither play on full screen on the HD7...
Looks like we need something like 3G Unrestrictor (iPhone app) that fools the phone into thinking it has a wi-fi connection.
Or a setting in the YouTube app that allows you to select high quality.
I assume that, like on the Omnia 7 ,you get full screen video when using wi-fi?
Well that sucks.
well tried the wi-fi route and no luck...

Dude, you don't even have a WP7 yet you're in every thread commenting gleefully whenever there is negative news. That or informing us of how bad we have it.
Are you just trying to increase comment count?
To the topic, this really needs to be addressed as I found out the hard way while showing my buddies a funny soccer video at the bar. I was ashamed of my phone

+1. This trolling is getting quite annoying.
Me lady has one, I'm messing around with it daily. Still considering one myself, so eat those apples.
Not my fault if your feelings get hurt so easily. Troll that.
lol here we go the haters again...it was a simple question...the phone is awesome...i can live without it no probs..i thought i may be missing a setting somewhere...
Wow, I figured this was just something at&t did to artificially throttle data usage, but I see that others are getting this, too. Looking forward to when someone nips this little nuisance. There are already easy workarounds to enable HSUPA and to get the phone to prefer 3G instead of kicking down to EDGE just by using the diagnosis code menu, which have made my new toy much more enjoyable. It'll be nice when I can blast out YouTube content on my pretty samoled.
Not YouTube, but some good news

This might just be a youtube thing.
I have a couple of apps that stream movie trailers and video podcasts and the the video quality range from acceptable to stunning.
I posted this in the Q&A section and it got a couple of hits the quickly got buried. I was wonder if an app existed or could be developed that would allow you when recording to pause and restat a video without you having to start a whole new video.
I thought about this when my wife was using her evo to record our daughters basketball game and she kept having to stop and start new videos to conserve card space when it would have been easier to pause and resume recording.
I know this could go in the Q&A section but I figured if a developer saw this and had some time or was looking for a new project this would be a good one I think.

hope you got thick skin
It would be easier to just concatenate the two videos when you need to rather than rewriting the whole camera stack just for that one purpose.
And wrong forum.
I hate to sound rude, but this is a cell phone. It shouldnt be used like a real camera to record your family's important things. If you want a camcorder that will stop and start without making a new clip, you will need a real handheld camcorder. There aren't any apps as far as I know that can do this.

LMAOOOOO i just understood why u said this about 30 seconds after reading this
if it's a relatively new phone, you can have your wife return it and get the Epic.
My wife has the Epic and it allows you to pause the video and resume without splitting.
Also, the video quality is far, far superior to the Evo. it boarders on Flip quality.
So that's something you can do.
Ok, i get what some people mean by using a dedicated camera for recording but she as well as i both have evo's and we carry those everywhere vs the awh i wish i had a camera moment.
The next thing is that the evo can and does record high quality videos (hdmi out) so why not have an app that makes it act live a regular video camera?
Its too late to swap them out for epic, and i prefer the evo to the epic.
I know there are several phones thst can do it so its not impossible
I know its only about 5 post deep already but i explained why i put this here vs as well as the q&a section.
The evo video quality is far better than flip quality. Come on people really do some of you just sit and wait for an idea to get posted to shoot it down i mean really is that all you guys have in life? If so im happy to give you a reason not to kill yourself.

If the EVO was just a cell phone then I would say you have a point. But the EVO is not built to be just a cell phone, its a smartphone and even saying that is degrading what it do. I had an old 2mp kodak camera a while back which had a small card in it. now you have the EVO with an 8mp camera and a 8gb card and you say don't take pictures. Same thing with the camcorder. If I buy a device worth 400/500 dollars it better be able to do something other than just take cell phone calls. So if dude wants to record rare moments of life that only can be caught if you have a device like this handy, then I say let him. Its not his fault a 3min 5min video is like 2gb. That is where the problem lies, files shouldnt be like that especially if its just a cell phone.
I know the Nexus was released today, and instead of asking questions, I should be out getting it, but I feel that I need to ask this question before I go ahead and get it.
The speaker for the speaker phone and audio playback.....is it really as bad as reviewers say? I only ask because I use the speaker on my phone about 2-3 hours per day listening to podcasts, music and such. As silly as it sounds, it is really high on the make or brake list of the phone.
Also, in this same realm, did the update that is being pushed out doing anything for it? I am just curious if it is actual hardware or just software. I know, with my Touchpad, when running WebOS, sound comes out of the speakers perfectly, but when I boot up the CyanogenMod based XRON ROM on it, it is rather awful and pretty much unusable. So, its obviously a software thing, not a hardware thing.
I don't mind waiting a bit to see if more users have more opinions on it, and worst case scenario, if need be, I wouldn't mind waiting until the Razr gets ICS, or at least the CyanogenMod version of it..
Thanks
I haven't had any issues with audio playback. I'm not entirely sure what issues your referring to either so perhaps you could clarify.
Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend it. (coming from a HTC Desire)
There were several places I read it.
This was from this morning (http://tinyurl.com/cv932ov):
Galaxy Nexus speaker blows: The speaker on the Galaxy Nexus is basically useless and one of the worst speakers I have ever used on a phone. It is nearly impossible to use it as a speakerphone and forget about listening to music and podcasts without a headset or external speaker. Some have suggested it might be a software issue and I can only hope so since I can’t even use it with such low volume. The speakers on the iPhone 4S are much better and I have no complaints at all.
I remember both The Cell Phone Junkie and also someone on Android Central mentioning it as well, but with the 2 minutes of searching, I couldn't find it easily on their sites. Its seems people have complained about them being "tinny" and not great at high volumes..
From what it sounds, you have no problems with it at all?
its really not that bad but it improves drastically with the free volume + app

After having a read of that article I'm pretty sure this guy has a biased opinion. Many of these so called issues don't even make sense. For example, better camera (if you look at the example shots hardly any noticeable difference), speaker issue (none of what is stated I can relate to), display too big?(irrelevant, user preference) and 4s being a world phone (doesn't make sense as a GSM gnexus is available).
So basically I don't think this guy really knows what he's talking about. But this is only my opinion
I guess sitting here reading the internet all day at work is going to make my head spin and I should probably just go pick the thing up and actually try it out for myself.
Or, with a bad speaker, I guess that is a way to convince the wife to let me put wifi/bluetooth speakers throughout my house.

Ohh, I agree 100% that the article was written by an Iphone user, designed to draw people from Android to IOS. But, like I mentioned, I have heard it before and figured it was easy enough to ask in the forums about it.
I think most of the reviews have come from the GSM version, to there might be a software upgrade that might have helped it..

Another Vote for Volume+
Its not bad. Its just not very loud. Shoulda called it quiet speaker.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I never thought my Incredible's speaker was really loud, but it always worked good enough for what I needed. Maybe I just need a Jawbone or some sort of Bluetooth speaker... That would solve all the issues if I couldn't stand using the one on the phone..
speaker is fine, used it all day so far... I'm fairly critical about speakerphones and music, and it sounds fine... no samsung phone has a "great" speaker, but this one is tolerable
Is there any such mod for the one X which is comparable to the "pop up play" feature in the SGS3?
This might be a deal breaker for me because i often watch a lot of video on the go to pass the time while travelling, i would like to be able to do other things whilst watching the video at the same time.
Maybe something for devs to work on if they havnt already done it?

Just like IPhone, Samsung Copies it and now everyone thinks It's revolutionary.
It's Nothing new, I've been using it for the last 6 months.
Overskreen- A pop up Browser that you can on top of the screen.
Stick It- A pop up video player which you can use on top of the Screen, And It's much better than Samsung's Pop up play, as you can use it with any media and as many videos at once as you like.

When did i say it was revolutionary? I just liked the idea of being able to watch video and browse the web at the same time. I had never heard of the app because i never activley sought after something like that, when it was announced at the SGS3 event i thought hmm what a great idea, i wonder if anyone else has already done this. Hence the opening line in my OP dumbass

Excuse me? I never meant to touch on your insecurities....
I was merely talking about Samsung, not you. Wow some people.
Okay heres the issue I'm having with this tablet...I went to try it at a store as I wanted to check the beautiful screen and just the general unit. So to test the screen I decided to play the following video...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgKXcQ9PLuc&feature=youtube_gdata_player
The internet connection was perfect....anyways the video was stuttery and tbh I was a little dissapointed since its buttery smooth on my S3.
I would appreciate for you guys to test it on your Note's and let me know how the video plays. Its important that it doesnt have youtube or really HQ playback problems since I'm planning on purchasing it from America so returning it for a refund wont be an option for me (I'm in UK)
The tablet as a whole is truely an amazing piece of kit and I really wish I have been an idiot and missed something. I'm going to try and visit a different shop tomorrow so hopefully it was just because the unit has been abused by customers or something.
P.S. I dont mind this thread getting hijacked for other youtube problems/questions on the Note 10.1 2014.

Mine plays it smooth mate. Very slight jerkiness with the star movements but I think that's just due to the time lapse? You have to look hard to notice it. Want to try linking to another video that isn't time lapse?

Yeah I notice it then mainly too but tbh I noticed it different parts of the video again and again without trying to concentrate on it.
Why would time lapse matter? Plus that whole video is a timelapse so it should wither be all stuttery or play just fine really. I'm not an expert at this stuff as you can probs tell LOL just curious to why this tablet with the best screen on the market stutters with that video.

I'm connected with my phone now but will try the 2nd one on my wifi when i get home.
I watched both videos on my PC which has an i7 processor, 32GB RAM and Nvidia 4GB graphics card. It was connected to fibre optic 40MB BT Infinity and I saw the same slight stutter as I saw on the tablet. So I'd say it's the video rather than what we're watching it on...

Not sure if this was already mentioned but the first link you posted actually links to a 3D version of the video. That might be why it played back funny on the note. Also, if you go through the youtube app you don't get the option to play the 3D version. Only if you play it through the web.

That is very strange. I would say you may have a bad device. Ask fir a replacement.
Okay I have a wierd issue on my Note when I play videos on youtube. Basically when watching a video in full screen mode and I change the orientation of the note the screen goes dim with a small box appears in the middle of the screen with appears to be signal bars at the bottom left of it.
Anyone experience this...I will take a screenshot when I finish work so yous can see what I mean but thought maybe in the mean time someone is/has experienced this before.
P.S I have no issues with signal or video quality during normal playback.
I just tried playing it back in the YouTube app and it stuttered very badly. I played it earlier on my son's iPad air and it played flawlessly. This is my 2nd note 2014 1st one had major screen issues.
Up until all of this Knox bs I've loved my Samsung devices, know it seems that it may be time to try something else. Fortunately I've got until Jan 15th to decide if I want to keep it or not.

Aye there must be something wrong with your Note then, I would deffo get it exchanged again or go to a different store since you probably got a Note from the same batch the last time you returned it.
