Hi everyone,
I just had a very frustrating experience tonight and I really need help because I don't understand why my phone would behave like that.
I wanted to update my phone and go to android 6.0 marshmallow, I tried to flash the latest builds of both SkyDragon and CandySix but here's what happened :
_Concerning SD, the flashing stopped while installing busybox and it said something like "Some symlinks failed"
_Concerning CandySix, the flashing went all the way completely right, everything was OK but when I tried to boot the ROM, it would just boot into teh recovery instead.
Please excuse my english and help me, I really want to update my phone to marshmallow...
Hellow,
I'll start at the start.
So i have a OP3 with 3.2.2 and installed a EX kernel (latest) through twrp recovery. All fine here...
Today i wanted to install Resurrection remix (latest release as from 10/09/2016) (tried both kernel versions cm and rr)
both gave me error 7. I did a factory reset through the base OS and tried again wich was not the solution it seemed.
So i tried reinstalling the nandroid backup (cache, system, and...) i took before getting into installing the new rom.
when i rebooted after putting the backup back it hangs on de 1+ logo and powered by android sign.
wichever rom i tried installing afterwards (even sideload) didnt work 'error 7'
I dont get why he keeps giving me an error 7.
hope some of you guys can gimme a hand with this cause its my daily driver :s
greets Verdi
P.S. i am a regular follower of xda just dont post alot so forgive me if this is the wrong section. I tried to find the most apropriate one to the best of my abilities.
The story goes like this:
Wanted a treble rom, when was using Xtended rom (non treble) for custom kernels.
I have been unsuccesful due to the same errors (error 7, failed to update system image), was willing to go back to Xtended, but being the pain in the butt that i am, i decided to switch the filesystem to f2fs since i already deleted data and have to install all the apps back.
And i reformated data to f2fs, and some of you may know what that means, it means of course that i deleted the internal storage.
After much anger and self-calming, i decide to get o with it and install Xtended back.
Much to my surprise, error 7 and unable to update system image came back to bite me in the butt.
After many attemps and lots of research, i failed to install a rom on my zuk z2, except zui 2.5 and zui 3.5, which contain a lot of chinglish and chinese symbols.
I tried many things (tried most twrp versions including latest and made for treble, many roms treble and non-treble, some older roms) and tried all the guides that i found about error 7, which tinkered with factory2vendor and stuff, that didnt work.
This is the second day that i wasted, trying to fix this p.o.s. phone.
I tried nougat oxygen os port that worked when i had this type of issue in the past, but now it doesn't work.
If anyone knows a rom of some kind that is usable that can be installed without twrp, or can avoid this treble-non-treble trash and be installed via twrp please leave a reply.
If you know a zui rom that is nougat and up that has usable english and can be flashed via qpst please please link it in the replies.
Maybe someone knows how to flash a custom rom via fastboot, cause it's the most promising thing that works the way it's supposed to work, along with qpst.
I HAVE A SOLUTION TRY THIS?

This info is for people who are finding it difficult to install a custom ROM or who are just waiting for the right time to experiment. This method is fail-safe. Any support needed, I am here to help .
To start with:
I unlocked my RM5P bootloader was able to install custom recovery and even root my phone, but I was not able to install a custom ROM ----- till yesterday night (I am on EVO X now).
Failed attempts:
I was able to downgrade to RMX1971EX_11_OTA_0170 with stock recovery but after loading the ROM, I cannot load into FASTBOOT.. Again to get into fastboot, I needed to upgrade to CO1 (Android 10).
Then from fastboot mode, I tried installing ROM (very old version) thus maintaining the TWRP and Fastboot.
I tried to install custom ROM, it gave me error 7. This error is because the Firmware was too old for the custom ROM to be installed.
Success:
I then installed color os V 170 from TWRP (it can decrypt OZIP files-it will covert that to zip and install). Used just common sense, as all custom ROMs at present need color os (specifically version ...170), so after installing ROM using TWRP and staying in the recovery (because if I load ROM now, I will lose FB and TWRP), I Dirty Flashed (just to be on the safe side) custom ROM (EVO X) , and then format data (might still give you error, there is a workaround) and restart. That's it.
I am in Evolution X latest build.
ADVICE:
Whatever experiments you want to do on your mobile, do it while you are in WARRANTY (after confirming you have your service center nearby and working). If your phone ends up bricked (like me-before) get it fixed free of cost. BECOME A PRO WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD.
Oh well that's extremely nice of you and useful. You're helping the community of this device a great deal with your informational and technical guides. I can safely thank you in the name of all users.
Though I'm feeling kind of sorry and bad for you. You really weren't able to use custom ROMs till 14th of May? Geez... That must've been horrible. I'm a fan of pure and stock like, simple, well modable/shapeable Android since I was a kid and got my Samsung Galaxy phone with Android 2.1 back in 2009. Since then I can't stand any limitation brought by Android skins like Miui or Color OS. I was on GSI ROM on the third day of having my Realme Q back in October of 2019. Not like warranty did count anything since there's no Realme in Hungary and it was an import device from AliExpress. So many testing and experience, lots of adventure. Can't even imagine what would I have done if I couldn't get rid of COS till now. Even the thought is maddening to me ? You've got my respect.

I appreciate your time and message.
I have only dared once in my lifetime to experiment on a tablet i bought online on the first day, that time i restored it with another rom, and even replaced that gadget after 2 days for another one because it didn't have multi touch, many years ago.
With realme, i was kind of scared to experiment till some months back and i even had to visit service centre thrice to restore. Now i have learned a bit on how we can BRICK our phone.
One important thing i learned is, STOCK rom is the best, and i am back on it.
Thank you.

Avoid installing custom roms using duty flash, i mean the second custom rom should be done as clean install. I said that specifically because, i tried three roms in a span of 1 hour, the third duty flash (derpfest rom) gave me indefinite boot. Had to go to service centre because phone was not bootng to twrp.
I went back to custom rom, Android 10 to get BL back. Anyways, i was not that satisfied with the present custom roms available.
But that's me, you can go ahead and try roms.

I suggest you check this with another derpfest user, please. I never got to boot to derpfest.
I downloaded Evolution X 4.7 Rom zip file and followed the instructions given in thread to flash zip file. But after flashing when I tried to reboot in system, it gave me a message on swipe screen that OS is not installed but still I swiped to boot in system. My device tried to boot a couple of time and ended up in fastboot again. Fortunately I had already made backup so I restored my backup.
As per your post I should have flashed color os 6 ozip file with twrp before flashing evox rom.
Every thing ok.i think you are not flash Vebeta after flash recovery.
Today I decided to install TWRP with CR Droid. Strangely though, after installing CR Droid and loading the ROM once, it stopped booting. Then, I decided to try and reinstall thinking that may solve the problem. Once I thought the OS install was complete, TWRP came up with a message saying "there is no OS installed". Strangely, no OS is installed even though I'd gone through the same steps.
Now the really big issue is that I cannot get my internal storage to mount properly. It keeps showing 0mb. I have followed the steps of changing from ext2 to ext4 and although it shows with the correct storage size within TWRP, when I try to send anything to my internal storage from Windows, it fails to do so and when I check the storage size via properties on Windows, it is unable to detect the size of the storage.
I'm totally stuck as I am unable to send another OS to my phone now. Can anyone please help me?
It just happened to me. Solution was to use MiFlash and fastboot install MIUI back.
After installing, boot it once then you're ready to flash your custom ROM.
That's great info thanks so much Chrisparkerrr!
Did you decide to try again with TWRP? I'm unsure whether to do so or not. I don't think it officially support Poco F3 which I guess is the issue?

TWRP for Poco F3 is indeed buggy and not officially supported by TeamWin yet. You could give TWRP another try and might succeed in flashing crDroid. TWRP's unreliable though, honestly.
I personally also tried crDroid and failed to flash it multiple times. I got it working in the end, but forgot how. I tried a lot of Custom ROMs. For most of them their Fastboot versions would succeed to flash 1 out of 4 times, meanwhile I can't flash their Recovery versions at all, as TWRP shows a useless error, "Error 7" or whatever number.
The only Custom ROMs I was able to flash through TWRP were Xiaomi.eu and ArrowOS.

Try different twrp , one that ends with aliothin should work ? Idk
I had error 7 when installing miui which means that the file that's being flashed reports as not compatible w the phone ? That was on nebrassy twrp , I tried the other twrp and the error was gone.
But then again I had cases where nebrassy twrp was the one to save the day ... So download both , sit by your PC and see which one works - If the phone fails to boot after wiping data it's time to flash w mi flash as the partitions get broken after wipe , if the system boots properly it then repairs partitions but if it doesn't then only mi flash works...
This guide might be useful...

Try roms with fastboot installation. Coz recovery has many errors. I faced the same problem and it caused me trouble too.
Just keep a Xiaomi.eu fastboot rom with you. Any time you face the problem fastboot the eu rom and try again

Sir, I've apparently have the same problem., TWRP no system etc. With MiFlash, how long it takes you too flash the new Stock ROM? I did and it stuck on Super.img with progress 100%. Is this really stuck or I need to wait longer?

It was longer, about 10-20 min and still stuck there. Gonna try to use the official Mi Flash, maybe the app isn't compatible for the newest devices.
