I am also having this issue after the screen has been off for a while. Anyone have a solution?
I also have this issue, noticed it seems to be something to do with the ambient light sensor? If I cover it up double tap or tap to wake won't work ( like it's in pocket mode).
Pocket mode is no longer an option so it's like it's built in now?
But yea for me it seems like it works fine in the day, but soon as night comes along and I'm in dimmer environments it becomes flakey

No.
I found a problem with no proper configuration of greenify. After some changes, tap to wake is working with no problems.

Hey guys,
same for me since today. Until some hours ago all was working fine.
But why you think it's related to dimmer/light. Because for me there is no difference when I turn on the light in room or change the timezone in settings. For now it's just not working (like broken)
I rebooted (also turned off and on) several times, turned off and on the inactivity display settings and some other tests, but nothing helped.

Suddenly it began working again...
No changes in location, lighting or whatever (except 39 minutes).
But not I can confirm this laggy working of this function. No idea why...
Last days it worked like 10/10 but now maybe 4/10.

A through clean up resolves the problem for my phone
i am facing the same issue with my phone. sadly i have noticed it is a reoccurring problem and it has something to do with the sensors. i tried all the fixes like toggling tap to wake, toggling face unlock assists light, clearing the cache and app data but nothing helped my case. factory reset is of no help either so i'd say don't even bother with that.
what really helped me fix this issue multiple times was something rather unexpected. what you should do is take off your phone's cover, get a wet towel, and thoroughly clean the phone all around, being especially thorough around the front facing camera and the top two edges. I give it extra attention around the front side being careful of the top speaker and after a couple of cleans and wipes both tap to wake and lift to wake starts working perfectly fine. then i put on the cover and voila it all good. Give it a try and let me know if it helped resolve this issue for you.

Hey!
The (single) tap to wake funktion will show up the ambient display, so that u can see clock, messages and use the fingerprintsensor if u want to enter.
It's a quick awake of screen to see Infos with minimal usage of display resources.
DT2W (double tab to wake) is the same as pressing the power button. So this will fully turn on screen into the lockscreen and also activate the face recognition. (for sure fingerprintsensor can be used, too)
BUT you can only activate one of those things and it will automatically turn off for example tab to wake if you activate DT2W.
Personally I like to use the single tab awake for ambient display, as I always can full activate by power button, which would be a dublicate function then.

I have noticed the same thing. It isn't 100% consistent.
FWIW: Mine seems to be very consistent if I triple tap. Perhaps the first tap wakes it up if it's in a deep sleep?

OK, still not working consistently. I don't get what's happening to make it randomly not work. When it doesn't work, it doesn't matter how many times I tap it does NOTHING. Then if I unlock it with my fingerprint and shut it off again it immediately lights up the ambient display like I just tapped on it again.

I can't tell you the "why". But I can tell you that mine does work consistently if I tap it 3 times. Something's different in our devices, or our setup....

Makes no sense. I'm glad we are seeing the same issues though, at least it's consistent there
I'm having the same exact issues. Tap not working consistently and sometimes the lift doesn't work either. Hmm.
It's worth noting I had the same issues with the Elemental kernel before this ddtw option was available. The ddtw option was just as inconsistent for me.
Neither working at all for me.
Update: Seems to be working fine now.
if you have a screen protector that might cause the issue
if it still doesnt work without screen protector reflash the factory image
The update seems to fix the issue.
Update: the issue still there. But much less frequent
The is double tap to wake? Is this with a custom kernel? Otherwise I didn't know this was an option. How do you activate that feature?
I have noticed that is works better if the screen is locked. So if your phone doesn't lock for 5 or so minutes, it may not work until after that time. Try to set your phone to "Power button instantly locks" and then try it. Mine was not working at all, but when I locked the device sooner, it started to work consistantly. Might not help you, but fixed it for me.
Works fine for me, do you have a tap on?

December OTA. Same location as other Moves/ gestures.
FWIW: what I've noticed is that if my phone is sitting on something, DTTW works 100% of the time. If I have it in my hand, it's very sporadic.
I have encountered this bug where I'm unable to use ambient display or wake up the display without the use of power button. Everytime I lock the screen it becomes unresponsive even the quick gestures don't work.
I have performed a soft reset but the problem has persisted.
Many other users seem to be suffering from this issue.
My device is full stock, no root or 3rd party apps on it.
Can anyone help me this this issue?
All users are facing this... It's because of battery optimisation.
No issues here. I am able to use the gestures just fine. Even the tap to wake and pick up to wake is working fine. I am 10.0.3 build.
I'm also having issues on tap to wake.
Happens to everyone. It's a hit or miss. Battery optimization makes the phone go into deep sleep and cause this issue is what i too understand.
Ya i did happen couple of times for me hope this bug get ironed out soon.

Same issue here also
Started encountering the issue recently - 3 days into ownership of the phone ?
The only peculiar thing I can remember is changing the override force dark toggle yesterday. And now that I recall, I don't remember seeing the ambient display since then. ?
Confirming I also have this issue. Very frustrating
I can trigger a black screen by holding the phone in landscape and launching the stock camera app. Then I have to hold Vol+/- and Power to reboot and it works again.

Wow! A use for my work-issued iPhone! Yay, seems like its working.
Hi,
I received my RN8 Pro just yesterday (22nd Oct) (India).
The first thing I noticed is the screen quality.
I find the screen is calibrated a tad bit warmer than usual. Even if you go to the screen settings and tweak it to 'cool', it still remains yellowish.
I came from OnePlus5, which had an AMOLED screen (not fHD/SuperAmoled). There the screen was obviously more crisp, I don't really expect that here. However, the calibration looks bit different if I hold these 2 phones side by side.
What I want to know is, is this just my RN8 Pro, or others also feel the same?
Also, in MIUI where is the 'night light' setting, where I can either manually or automatically turn the screen hue warmer? It's one of the main features in OxygenOS. Actually, the current RN8P calibration looks like 'night light' is already set.
Issue summary:
1) Daytime screen temp looks like as if the 'night mode'/'night light' is already ON. (Note, I don't mean 'reading mode', that's different)
2) Night time screen temp gets very yellowish, almost as if the 'reading mode' is on
3) Screen calibration (warm/default/cool) doesn't change it a lot
4) Can not find the setting to turn off the 'night mode' in #1
Thanks.
In RN8P you can find Night Light in "Reading Mode" in Display option, it turns the screen hue warmer. I'm not sure about the warm color. May "Reading mode" is enabled which is causing this. Try to check that option.

Yes. And there is no quick way to disable the night time extra yellow tint.
You think it would be eligible for a replacement?
If you could compare it to another rn8 pro and see an obvious difference then yes you should claim for warranty.

Looks like mine got fixed on its own. No more automated yellow tint.
Possibility#1: Xiaomi pushed some OTA
Possibility#2: I forcedly changed the 'good night read' schedule to some random time. 'ON' from 11pm to 1am, and kept the scheduler 'ON'. So, it didn't turn yellow at 6pm (the approx sunset time). Once it's past 6, I turned off everything there. It didn't turn yellow. Rebooted. Didn't turn yellow. Will observe again tomorrow.

I noticed this too but for me it’s the very slight movement between taps where it presumes a gesture is upcoming. It also seems a little worse with a slippery tempered glass protector.
If I make a conscious effort not to move position between taps it works for me every time. Maybe they can adjust swipe detection sensitivity?

Already done this to fix my drain problem one day one of receiving the device.
I know Android is just like any other OS installed on a computer sometimes needs clearing of cache, a shutdown of the OS or a manual reboot.
In fact I've done it many times just to make sure MIUI is not glitching on me.

It may be a settings glitch or again some sort of power management running amuck in the background. Play with it...
I posted the issue on Mi Community and Poco Community forum.
Not many people seem to use the double tab to wake feature with AOD set to 10 seconds.
I tried searching on Xiaomi and Poco both forums with keyword double tap and not a single thread for the Poco F3/Redmi K40.

I think youre right bro. If i time my taps perfectly and dont move position between taps, it works most of the time. Same goes for the AOD. Single tap works but it takes almost 2 seconds for the AOD to pop up which is pretty slow imo.
I think figured it out, 3 fast taps without moving my finger always works with AOD now.
Whatever, I'll just leave the posts on the Mi and Poco forum...hopefully they can replicate the issue and improve single/double/triple tap detection with future updates.

Everything magically works now, after I let the battery deplete to 0% (MIUI auto shutdown) for a second time and then charge to 100% (for initial battery calibration).
Of course I won't be letting the battery deplete past 20% anymore after this, and I'll only be charging up to 90% when I have the phone rooted.
I'm pretty sure there some other minor issues with MIUI I haven't encountered yet, but for now it's pretty enjoyable to use.

Might depend on the device. Doesn't use much at all on my Samsung Note 10+.
With AOD touch to view active and phone/text running I use less than .5% @HR.
Never tried deactivating Double Tap on though... it's too useful.
More than likely it's not the culprit. Cloud apps and trashware like WhatsApp, FB, Google system apks are prime suspects.
Easy enough to test...
hello everyone,
I just bought z fold 3 a few days ago,
after hours of working with I found that sometimes the touch screen(inner display) doesn't respond,
for example, some words don't type when I am typing quickly with the keyboard (just sometimes)
factory data reset didn't help.
has anyone run into the same problem? may be resolved with future updates?
Is it only happening to apps connected to the internet ie is it a connection issue?
The internet's been goofed up in some areas the last few days. Try toggling the airplane mode off/on.
Keep power management disabled for now.
Does it happen in safe mode?
Find the factory test settings for the touch display, test (and calibrate if needed/possible).
If you can't resolve it, return it. Otherwise eyeball every square inch of it like a hawk...
I tested the touchscreen with *#0*# and everything is fine.
just sometimes this problem occurs and I think this may be software problems...
have you z fold 3?

No. Basic troubleshooting.
Samsung will likely release firmware updates to correct this if enough devices are effected. It may be a 3rd party app causing this... try in safe mode. Disable animations for now and see what its got.
I stopped at the N10+/Android 10 and will likely stay in this holding pattern for at least 2 years.
I have two now and they run close to flawlessly.
Both Samsung and Android are having major issues, plus I require a SD card slot. Even issues on the N20U, which helped nix it from my list.
It may be a good year for Fold fans but otherwise both Android and Samsung have dropped the ball and are in a flat spin... in my opinion.
my problem is just like what you see in this youtube video in Time 12:15 and 12:49 . I must double try some times to click some things. this is very annoying on the keyboard and when you are typing quickly.

I tested the touch screen with "touch screen test" Application and uploaded a video on youtube, you can see here.

I tried to replicate the issue. I downloaded the same app on my Fold 3. I tried for few minutes.
On my device every click is registered. No missing dots.
I have the exact same issue. I addressed it by increasing the screen sensitivity.
Hey, I just noticed it today as well. When I try to type text faster, sometimes I need to double click on letters. I think this problem came with the latest update, because I havent had that problem before. It is frustrating.
I tried to turn on sensitivity option in settings and I will reply here after day or two testing.
seems to be a bit better with that option turned on

The sensitivity option didn't help me.
