I received my Note 2 a few days ago. I found no screen defects, although my volume button is loose (and was confirmed normal as per other XDA member's feedback). I have a tiny black marker above the earpiece on the bezel (also confirmed by another fellow XDA member), and I know it sounds like I have OCD, but $700 dollars is not little. Also, I should mention, I purchased my device without contract from T-Mobile on their website, and the retail box (pristine clean condition) came in a bubble wrapped bag instead of an actual box I was expecting. Lastly, while un-boxing, I noticed I didn't find any plastic clear tape to remove on the sides of the bezel like I did in the previous Note (International version). My Note 2 only came with the T-Mobile Logo on front and Plastic on the back cover. Today, I tried registering the product on Samsung's website, and came across the message that my phone's Manufacture Date is 11/30/1993.
Is whatever I described above something to be concerned about? Or am I just being too anal. What about the warranty? Is my device refurbished? Should I have purchased at a retail store instead? My phone apparently came from Kentucky (Origin on UPS Scan shows Louisville, Kentucky) with a pre-paid return label to Forth Worth, Texas.
Relax..... That's not a refurbished device. You can check under the battery and it will be listed as a refurb.
I had 3 Note 2's with Sprint before moving here. They all came the same way. There's no tape on the sides of the phone. Only the screen and and back cover are protected by plastic.

I have purchased 2 notes from tmobile and they have both come in a padded mailer vs. an actual box. The inside boxes were sealed though, I had to slice through seals to open the box. I recall on the international version the back plastic actually wraps around a little to cover the sides, I think it was the same with the tmobile version as well. You can't rule it out entirely but it seems unlikely you got a refurb, in my opinion.
Thanks for the replies :good:, what about the power / volume button, little black mark, and most importantly, the manufacture date. Have any of you tried registering your devices yet? Please let me know. Thanks again.

Do you even have to ask? Consider the source, the world we live in for a moment. The fact is some devices are sold "New" even if they technically need be listed as refurb. If you feel so confused, instead of asking internet strangers about your own device, I'd return it online and buy one in store if it makes you feel any better. But at the end of the day it's just a cell phone

I'm not feeling confused; its really just the manufacturer date I am more concerned about. It might be just a cell phone to you, but $700 dollars invested into a machine like this is not little. The world we live in now requires most of us to think twice before we buy. Coming to the Note 2, Every Note 2 sold has minute issues like I stated in my first post. I might be just being OCD, lol. Also, It's a Samsung thing--QC at its finest.

Hey I'm I'm your side I'm just saying more action less debate about your money...if I purchase something online and I have doubts I don't need to consult with strangers on what to do. As far as the device heck yeah return it and buy in store if it tickles your fancy, our see a doctor about your ocd. In regards to the manufacturer date..this is not the first nor last gadget to have a funky date some are more accurate others are internal...not a big deal.....this technology clearly didn't even exist back then, uncommon sense tells you it's just a Samsung filler, just a date they used. Even if the date was this year..who cares lol enjoy your phone

Watched a couple of unboxing videos on the T-Mobile version, there was plastic tape on the sides as well. I'm just guessing it varies by batch. Lol.
Anyway, too much plastic. I think thats the biggest flop of Samsung; Plastic

I'll just contact Samsung, and confirm some details. It would be silly to return without knowing that everything described is normal on Samsung's part, lol.

:victory: I don't think OP actually thought the device was manu in 93 xD Probably just concerned it doesnt say 2011 or 12 like it should . lol
OP MADE IN CHINA is all you have to see to answer your questions about loose this or that . This isn't the first thread I've seen about loose buttons on this device. . China makes junk , period. We're kinda lucky as many of these devices function flawlessly from the factory. My and it apears few other radios were bad too I had to get a replacement . Fact is lot of these devices are OK. But chinese quality control just isnt on par with even korea or the phillipines.
Thanks AFAIK, everyone's buttons on the Note 2 are loose, even those Made in Korea (as per XDA Note 2 General Forum Members). I've had the Made in Korea Note and Galaxy S2 before and they both sucked in quality control and were Made in Korea. Its not country of manufacture, its Samsung and their best friend, Plastic. Why not just use rubber? Lol...

mine arnt . thats the only thing on this phone that is ok . I guess your right on the samsung. I've predominantly used HTC throughout my smartphone experience. And their build quility is top notch . maybe Ill trade this thing for a one x or something. I mean the device itself is cool but .
Loose buttons , gps not working very well on more than a couple devices , terrible radios the fragililty of the device itself . I mean I cant tell you how many times Id dropped the MT4GS and I never had any problem with it.
1 think you a lemon ;P

I've noticed quality issues on the Note 2, notably the bezel. The bezel is a throwback to the GS2 with the cheap electroplated plastic. Too easy to scratch, and out of the 3 or 4 I have had, most of them suffered from some sort of manufacturing defect. The GS3s bezel is actually constructed much beter, and I was hoping it would be the same. Instead it's identical to the Note 1 or the GS2.
I wonder how Samsung is able to sell something like this of very poor build quality. It's very shocking and insulting.
Very poor build quality? I have to disagree with you on that. They are built different, lots of plastic that's all. As far as I know anyway. My 3rd Galaxy phone model, and 4th total. I've never had an issue with any of them. However, for $700 I'd expect perfection regardless of where it's made. If you aren't happy definitely contact them.

What are you even talking about??
I've gone through a few Note 2s now (long story), but all of them arrived in a very thin bubblewrap bag, and had the back plastic wrap on loose/wrinkled/something. I'm not sure why that happens, but they were all new and unused. One had a power button that didn't work right, the other had a deep nick on the side (ironically, near the power button) - and that was painted so it was definitely a defect, and then another one had a bad speaker.
The 4th still doesn't sound quite as good as I recall the 1st sounding, but everything otherwise is great and fine so I'm sticking with that one.
Also, I think the front edge of the ring that goes around the sides of the phone has paint that chips, possibly? I think those with the white Note 2s could provide more info about that, because I also see tiny black specs there sometimes, but I can't tell if it's dirt/dust or just the paint, or what? It's really hard to tell since the grey ones are painted really dark hehe.
Awesome phones though!
Also noting: All of these were made in China, and one says rev 1.1 on the box and had a slightly clickier home button (made on 12/3 I think?) but all were virtually identical otherwise. They're really nice phones, just.. not HTC or Apple quality hardware-wise I guess.

He bought it yesterday , so I'm really ****ed. I talked to him on the phone and he was somewhat crying as he was hardly able to afford this after selling his laptop , as it's in India and it's really expensive in India. He didn't buy it from Google, so no RMA there.
I dropped it, sides got scratched :crying:. The scratches isn't on the back cover or the display. It's on the very sides (between the screen and the back) I don't know what that part is called, it's a glossy black which is rounded on the screen, may as well be a part of the screen.(I hope not)
I can I think afford 30-40$ max to get his tablet fixed, not more than that unfortunately. He bought it for 390$(Indian price).
Please Please, help a fellow member out I was about to root this thing for him so he can have some goodies but sooo unfortunate of this event. It's 12AM right now and I will be meeting him at 11AM tomorrow and I really don't want him to get much worried(not that he already is) and he is my best friend so that can ruin our friendship aswell :crying::crying::crying:

Not sure how you're going to find that particular part for it, much less find it for 40 bucks or less, maybe buy him a fosman TPU case to cover up the markings.
Might be helpful if you posted a pic.

You can't repair the screen like that.
Full replacement or none at all.
Either he forgives you which is going to be hard, under the circumstances you mentioned or you sell your Nexus 5 and buy him a new Nexus.
Then, take his old Nexus, sell it and buy another phone for yourself.

I'm not going to comment about if you end up having to sell your N5 to make it right and your parents have a problem with it. I think you know that you have to make it right, even if it means using a dumb phone for a while. Talk to your friend, see what he wants you to do, suck it up!

You have to use your best judgement! I personally don't want to be buying anyone a new device unless maybe she is damn good looking and willing to show some gratitude! Otherwise....
So the first phone was new and had crackling speakers. Second phone that was sent to me was refurbished and had a smudge underneath the screen so it wasn't cleanable unless I opened the hw. Third refurbished phone had a glass gap between the screen and the base of the phone, so there was bleeding light coming from the back of the phone. Now T-Mobile is sending me a fourth refurbished (most likely) phone.
All the replacements seen to be refurbished.
Imagine. . .I played for S-Off each time and a screen protector each time. That's around $140 ($25x4 + $10x4) USD just on replacement bs.
Anyone else having these issues?
I unrooted, restored stock ota, re locked, and re s-oned the first two devices (fourth device is coming 6/1/15) to restore original (warranty) status despite all these issues being hardware related. Keep in mind I'm no newb to phones.

If you are not new to the phone section, you would not pay for s-off everytime before you check the phone for defects or whatever. So you could save a lot of money,
if you check your device with Pixel test and eyes before you set it s-off
Other then that, i do not have any problems with the phone. Its a huge improvment from m7 build quality to m9.

I already checked for defects. However it was only noticeable during the night. As for the smudge, it can be taken off with a microfiber, however once the oil of the skin touches the screen it comes back. All of these were freak incidents.
Pixel test has nothing to do with my problems with the phones as I have no dead pixels.
Like I said, definitely very aware of my phone and its uses. I've had every phone out there and do numbers of different ports for audio. So its not like this is my first rodeo.

T-Mobile is very generous as they credited me $60 at no hassle or haggling. They've sent me several replacements with no hassle. However they said if the third replacement they send me is defected, they'll allow me to choose a swap of the M9 for another phone. . .which is not what I want because I like this phone.

Sorry to hear that you're having issues getting a unit without defect. I ordered my developer edition phone a few days after it was available and it showed up in perfect condition. I had read about issues regarding gaps at the screen and body, and a "clicky" area at one of the screen boundaries, however my phone was free of all of those. My old M7 had one pixel that would only display in white, but I kept it and was very happy with it.
Bottom line - I hope you get an M9 that you are happy with, because this phone is awesome. As hamdir notes in the sticky thread at the top, the upcoming firmware update brings great improvements to daytime camera performance and battery performance. HTC continues to show themselves as a company dedicated to delivering a great experience for their customers.

You appear to be the exception and not the rule with regard to defective M9s. If you hold out for an M9 that meets your standards, I think you'll be very pleased with the device. Good luck!
I ended up with 3 of them at one point. Got to choose between two grey and one gold silver. One of the greys had phucked up speakers. Kept it for a few weeks prior to paying for S off... What kind of momo would pay 25 USD the second they receive the phone. Ended up paying $450 cdn for one after all the credits they gave me for the hassle.

If it makes you feel better, I went through 3 Galaxy S6s with defects before I went to the M9. Yeah, I'm not happy with this onr, but it's more the camera and the heat that's ruining my experience. I'm just not sure why the hell you paid for S-Off 4 times. After the first, I would have waited to make sure the phone was FLAWLESS.

Hello boys and girls.
Would you be so kind to explain me how to understand if my htc one m9 is refurbished? Tried ##778# code and it does not work for me. And my phone is not rooted also.
Thank You in advance.
Best Regards,
So the third replacement they sent me (fourth phone) was also defected. So I finally called @HTC and explained to them what happened. They're sending me a new device, not some cleaned up BS used device. The one they will send me is going to be brand new. Good guys HTC (warranty).

I'm on sprint so hopefully tomorrow.
Who did you order from, I ordered from Samsung, and it seems I won't be receiving mines anytime soon.
The phone is absolutely gorgeous! I came from the iphone 6s+, the fit and finish is phenomenal. My case and screen protectors will be here tonight from Amazon Prime (same day delivery totally worth it), the only thing I dislike now about the samsung phones would be the "ok google" is not longer available for always on, and yes I know how to set it up I wish Samsung would have kept that feature like "Hey Siri" on the iphone 6s+.
It is going to take some getting used to as I have been away from Android for about 8 months rocking my iphone, but I have always tried out the new Samsung phones S6 edge plus S7 edge plus but I have always returned them and went back to the iphone so we will see with this phone if I keep it past the 14 days , but so far so good!!!

Haha I'm actually using it without a case but i left the stock "protector" on it. I am still waiting for the otterbox defender to be released so i don't have any plans on buying a case soon, i am temporarily using my mumu PS Vita pouch as a "case" to keep it in when I'm not using it as it has a very food material inside the prevents the device from getting scratched

I am still waiting for the otterbox defender to be released so i don't have any plans on buying a case soon, i am temporarily using my mumu PS Vita pouch as a "case" to keep it in when I'm not using it as it has a very food material inside the prevents the device from getting scratched

Same here. Well the front film anyway. In so tempted to remove it but I'm getting my screen protector in about 12 hours.

That's awesome, i will go to the mall tomorrow to get a screen protector. Hopefully there will be some available locally (Philippines). At first i wss fixed on getting a TGSP for my note7 but after reading a lot of things about TGSP on "edge phones" i think I'll stick with the "plastic" ones for now.
Hopefully the defender will be released soon, i am honestly not that comfrotable using the phone without any protection as from the videos on YouTube, it can get scratched easily.
Actually pretty jealous of you all. I had mine preordered but accidentally hit the cancel button instead of save one day and had to start over. I was 55th yesterday, and 54th today/tonight, guessing I won't be getting it anytime soon haha.

Coming from an HTC M9, love it.. I thought it was only going to be a small upgrade but it's a large step..

Don't feel too bad for yourself lol. You could be in my position:
I ordered the Black Onyx 2 minutes after midnight with a Sprint invite code that was given to me by Sprint. Was supposed to get the phone over a week ago. But they screwed up my order. Instead of Black Onyx they are sending me the Titanium... Which I dont want. They refused to cancel my order or to even change the order to the proper one. Stating that they were 'still trying to find my device in the warehouse'... I'm sitting here like "well good, then you can tell them to STOP trying to find it" but they wouldn't. Then when I was told it would ship by a specific day, it didn't. I paid an extra 50 dollars for next day shipping as well, but guess what? It JUST shipped yesterday at 8pm! And wont be here until tomorrow while I'm at work. So I basically paid 50 bucks to have my phone shipped the same day as what it would have been with free shipping... Ontop of that, Sprint put a restriction on my package! So I can't have UPS hold the package at their sorting facility for me to just come pick up like I always have to do. My 'UPS Driver' is cruel and won't take the time to go down my drive way to deliver packages. Sure the drive way is around a quarter mile long, but his excuse every time is "I can't find the house"... When the house is two stores, the ONLY two story house in the area, and can be seen over the tops of the trees from the road... But nope, he just won't come down the drive way to deliver. So since I have that restriction, I can't pick up my package like I normally have to do. So, I now have to call off from work so I can sit at the end of the drive way to wait for the UPS guy to show up... Then I have to take the phone into a Sprint Store to have them exchange it for the Black Onyx one... IF they even have it in stock... Because apparently the stores haven't even gotten their devices in yet. I talked to them yesterday when I tried to see if they could just hand over the proper phone and then I'd drop off my current phone and the incorrect Note 7 back to them. They said they would, but they don't have any devices in the store. So I really need to hope and pray they have a Black Onyx version that hasn't been purchased yet...
Getting this phone has been the worst experience of my life in regards to trying to buy a smartphone... My Note 5 was a breeze, and my S4 was as well. I just walked into the store 4 days before launch and was like "hey, I wanna buy the S4" and the sales guy walked outa the stock room with an S4 and sold it to me. I pre-ordered the Note 5 within minutes of them opening up pre-orders, and got the phone 3 days later, weeks before you could even buy them in a store. And now, they ask me if I want this phone weeks early, and I take them up on the offer, and presto... worst experience ever.

Hoping as well haha. I wasn't even planning on getting the phone until they said they'd give it early and at a discount. But guess that was just too good to be true D=
I have been hearing that some trade in issues are arising. Read https://www.droid-life.com/2017/10/10/google-store-trade-program-things-aware/
Does anyone know what is going on?
I sold my Pixel XL on Swappa. I almost did the trade in because is sounds like a fair deal.

Yeah I just got my return sleeve the things a joke if I were you guys I would slap the sticker on the outside of the box put that thing inside of it I think they wanted it to break
No issues here I got my kit. I’m going to put the phone in the envelope and the envelope in a box slap the label on it and peace. Also Google has upped the trade in window to 50 days for pre orders
Received my trade kit and I will probably get a small box. If you have ever seen how packages are treated, I have zero confidence in the bubble wrap sleeve. Also going to take photos of the current pixel showing no abuse or cracked screen just in case.

Good idea taking pics, I'll definitely do the same.
Got my kit yesterday, immediately did a chat with Google about the 'quality' of the packaging.
Was told just to use the bubble envelope. Then I asked what happens if its damaged in transit.
Basically just a bunch of small talk while they checked with the 'specialists', but never a firm reply, was told they will get back to me via e-mail since it was taking so long to get an answer. As of tadoay still no email reply.
I am just going to cut some cardboard and make a sleeve to encase the phone inside of the envelope when I send it back.
I haven't received by kit yet. How big is the envelope?

This kit is a joke.... ?
Imagine if they shipped the pxl 2 in this thing lmaooooo
Are they expecting us to ship just the phone, cause the envelopes I saw is enough for the phone, but not the chargers and cable any one.. love to keep my charger for work

just the phone.
There is no way I'm shipping my phone in just that. I like the idea of the cardboard insert or I'm putting it in a box.
I am thinking of leaving my Rhinoshield screen protector AND bumper case on the phone... atleast it will be safe from drops...

Yeah...wanted evidence that the phone I am shipping back is perfect, screen not cracked, works fine. Just in case something happens.

Was excited to hear they only want the phone, so bonus charger/cables is a nice.
I shipped my 6p yesterday. Wrapped it in bubble wrap, wedged in cardboard in front and behind then stuffed all that into the Google provided envelope. They should have provided a box, but it should be safe with my added protection.

so, for those interested, I just received an email response concerning the 'quality' of the shipping envelope....
Hi xxxxxxxx,
Thank you for contacting Google support!
I am Sxxxxx from Google hardware support. I'm sending this email in regards to the trade in envelope for which you've contacted us earlier. I apologize for the delay. I've consulted my team on this and confirmed that our Trade In Kits are tested and certified, if you'd prefer to use different packaging, you can affix the provided Shipping label to any box, but make sure to put the phone in the kit envelope before placing into the box.
Please let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with. You could also reply to this email,I’ll be more than happy to help you!
Thanks!
Sxxxxxx X
The Google Support Team
Google is trying to scam people out of money.
I just received an email from Google stating that I only got $165 because my Google Pixel XL that was supposed to be valued at $400 was actually a Nexus 6P. Obviously I sent them my Pixel XL (I've also never owned a Nexus 6p), so now I am on with Google Chat support trying to figure it out. I gave them the IMEI of my Pixel XL (straight from the Google Store order history page) and they told me it's for a Nexus 6P.
Needless to say, I am raising holy hell until I get my money, and I will never use their trade-in program again. If you did the trade-in program, beware and pay close attention to the email once they receive your device.
I still have the box my Shamu came in. I'm a not do the trade in yet. I will ask around and see if someone wants to buy it first. I have 3 cases and one more nilliken tempered glass screen protector for it. Lol

I had an issue with them too, I got an email saying I was getting $162 instead of $410 because my phone wasn't factory reset, even though I made sure removed my SIM card and reset it before I sent it in

Go after them for the $410 and don't let them off the hook...
