I'll start at the beginning.
Around 4 months ago, everything with the phone was perfect, but then, I think after an update I did, it all went to ****. The battery started draining really fast, the fingerprint unlock function stopped working.
Let me explain what the issue with the fingerprint sensor is. One day the fingerprint unlock function stopped working, I tried wiping the sensor, wiping my fingers, but nothing. I thought that removing the fingerprint data and re-adding it might help, so I removed the old data, but when I tried to set it up again, the fingerprint scanner was not registering anything. After that I thought rebooting the phone might fix it, so I rebooted it, and boom , the fingerprint unlock option in the settings was not even there! I did a little research on the internet , and it turned out , that a lot of people have the problem of fingerprint unlock option missing from there settings, and there were all kinds of methods of fixing the issue, I tried some of them, and I managed to make it work again, but only for a short while, and then it stopped working again! After that I couldn't get it to work no matter what I did.
After that I said, **** it, I don't have the time to deal with this , I'll just not use the fingerprint unlock.
But then the ****ing battery drain started happening, I installed , Better battery stats , and it was showing that Google play services is the culprit, I tried everything there is on the net, from removing Google accounts and uninstalling Google play services updates, to doing a clean reinstall of the ROM. Nothing worked!
Finally I decided to move to another ROM, I installed Pixel-experience a few days back, and the fingerprint unlock option is still missing, but now I have another battery drain, in better battery stats it says fp_wakelock. Which If I'm not wrong is something connected to the fingerprint service?
So does anyone have an idea on how to end my misery or should I downgrade to Oreo?

Hello,
Calm down. He can read but the best way and the easiest one is to make a factory reset or use a tool for bricked phones. There are so many reasons which can cause your problems. Try this tool and let us know if everything is ok now.
Backing to issues with the fingerprint scanner, maybe it is a problem with hardware... I had a problem with wi-fi and bluetooth on my OP3T and it looked like a software problem but it wasn't. Maybe you get wet the scanner... Maybe phone dropped....
Regarding battery drain, try a CPU spy app and let us know what deep sleep do you have on your phone. Also try to turn off the wi-fi and bluetooth scanning in localisation section. And try once again the CPU spy app.
Before you do anything make a backup of your data.
Cheers.

How am I being disrespectful exactly?
As far as I can see, the other guy just left a vague reply which has no real meaning, when writing what he thinks I should do will take him 1 minute at most, and then you are asking me if I've tried a clean reinstall , when I've clearly mentioned it! Did you even read my post?

Woops, i've seen the reinstall thing, but i didn't see that you clean reinstalled it
something that bothers me is that even if you installed PE or clean installed OOS, the fingerprint thingy was still missing, so it could maybe be an hardware issue
as for the play store, it should be ok when you install another ROM, or clean install OOS
maybe try to downgrade to oreo, as you stated in your post (backup your apps with titanium backup so it won't be too much of a hassle)
Any updates op?

So I got the Galaxy Nexus GSM today and it's one hell of a sexy device.
It obviously came with Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. And errors out of the box. Right when I start the phone, Talk FCs. When I try to start the Camera, it FCs.
I though "What the heck, Jellybean probably fixes that", so I unlocked it and flashed Paranoid Android. Everything is a lot faster now, but I still have the same problems, except now Gallery just crashes, which renders the Camera unusable, because they're apparently linked together in Jellybean.
I tried 3rd party apps (Zoom Camera, Paper Camera and a few others) and none of them work.
So it seems that everything that has something to do with the Camera doesn't work.
I tried everything that I could think of;
Reflashing
returning to stock
force stop Camera
Disable and enable all network related functions in G+ and Gallery
Clearing cache - both for individual apps and the option from the recovery
Trying 3rd party apps
Googling everything I could think of
Installing G+ (that made me able to open Gallery, but Gallery still force closes when I open Camera)
Changing battery
Of course I can't see it being anything but a hardware issue, but some people who have compiled CM10 by themselves have the same errors. I don't know if that helps me.
So before I return it some time this week, does any one have any suggestions to what I could try?
I'll give this thread two days before I return it.
Thanks in advance.
You rooted? If not and you know how to root, root it, replace the app (gallery, camera, whatever is not working) with stock JB version. Hopefully it's just corrupted apps... That's easy to fix
Thanks for the reply. I've already tried the Jellybean version of Paranoid Android and it made no difference.

I have, but I just tried again and it made no difference.
Also, I forgot to mention that it's not a storage issue, as I can save screenshots just fine.

I just went ahead and called verizon.. and they're shipping me a new phone today. I see a lot of posts about this, with no solution. It'll be quicker to do it this way. Except you call whatever your carrier is. Or samsung, if nothing else.
Well, you see, I bought the phone refurbished. There was a guarantee on it, but I lost the receipt, so I can't return it or get a new phone.
I ordered a rear- and front-facing replacement camera. It should arrive in 7-15 days because I'm ordering from the USA.
I looked into it, and disassambling and assembling it should be fairly simple. Nearly the same process as the Nexus S, which I've disassembled before.
If it doesn't work, I've only lost $22 and it's not like I have a valid guarantee on it anyway.
Oh well, replacing the cameras didn't work.
And I even managed to break the volume buttons.
Even if I got hold of the receipt, there would be no way they would repair it now.
I can as well just go buy a new phone. Next month. Maybe. At least everything else still works.
When you flash ROM, do you ensure you completely wipe previous ROM and data? Also, if you use something like Titanium Backup to restore your apps after flashing a new ROM, make sure you don't restore system apps or data. That will definitely screw things up in every ROM as incompatible files are mixed.
Try doing a full wipe of your device it could help
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
It was like that on the stock rom.
And yes, I always ensure to wipe everything. As said in the OP, I even tried returning back to stock.
I got the same problem, I GOT IT FIXED NO HARDWARE FAILLURE!!
Hi,
this is what i did, got it fresh from the box, didn't even bother to set-up, I instantly updated to Jelly Bean..
everything worked perfectly, besides the camera, it crashed instantly.. (gallery did not respond)..
i rebooted it 2 times, then pressed the Power button + volume down.. it went to an system boot thingy.. the i connected it to my pc with an usb (usb debugging enabled).
my win7 pc said the drivers were installed, then i pressed the power button. after loading. the camera worked perfect.. thats REALY everything i DID.. i'll keep you posted if it fails again.
it also worked after unplugging the usb.. Hope I helped you a bit.
I can second this fix!

So, I was having this exact same issue and was ready to call Verizon for a replacement, when I tried this as a last resort and VOILA!! IT WORKED! I am still unsure of how this all came about, but for the purpose of hopefully helping someone with the same issue, I will second this quick fix as IT DID WORK FOR ME.
I had this same problem (camera/talk fc'ed on start, whenever opening either app), tried all the fixes I could and nothing worked. I eventually disassembled the phone and used a toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol to clean the main board and the connections for each of the camera modules. After a couple rounds of cleaning, everything started working again.

Hi all, heres the story:
At first, I thought I was loosing my mind, I kept checking my phone and the WiFi was always off, which is weird for me.
Anyway I turn it back on and go about my day, check half an hour later its off.
I was like "im sure I turned that back on" anyway same again half an hour later.
So I was watching it this dinner, and low and behold I watch both my WiFi and my network connections restart themselves like someone was switching them on and off, but the WiFi didn't re-connect and stayed off, wereas data re-connected ok.
It goes on ! I then realised that my phone was calling people by itself, which is also weird as theres no buttons to accidently press to call people? (ITS TOUCHSCREEN!!!)
Anyway, today I recieved a text off someone asking me why the heck I'd just sent them map co-ordinates.
So someone or my phone is sending people map co-ordinates....
The ONLY thing I can think of is Cerberus, could Cerberus be causing this?
Is this the phone telling me its on its way out?
Any solutions?

What can be doing this? I only have apps from trusted Vendors such as Natwest, Vodaphone, couple of games, Tasker etc :/
Any ideas?
Can it be Tasker? It's supposed to automate tasks. Maybe there are some causing all this. Try freezing it.

I also thought it could be tasker, but Tasker has been setup for months and months, and not changed for atleast 2/3 months+
I checked tasker, and theres only 3 profiles, which have nothing to do with any connections.
They're profiles such as, plug headphones in and music player appears.
PS - Cannot freeze, stock and un-rooted.

I was fiddling with my phone settings and testing a few features. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT ENABLE THE TALKBACK FEATURE.
After enabling this feature, my phone began to freeze on every screen while the voice assistant keeps speaking as I try to press anything on the screen. The entire phone just bugs out. Can't swipe or scroll. Can't select anything. Can't get to the settings to disable the talkback feature because I can't scroll. Can't do anything basically.
So, here I am with a brand new unusable HTC One M8. This is my 2nd NEW HTC One M8 that has defective software. My first one couldn't read any SIM cards after 3 new SIM cards were attempted by a T-Mobile rep.
Try factory reset.

Can't. As I mentioned, I cannot swipe or scroll. Factory reset requires scrolling to 'Factory Reset'. Not only that, I cannot select anything unless I get "lucky". The phone doesn't do anything I want it to do. I have a vid of the issue but I can't link it to this thread because I'm a new user.
If you have an HTC One M8, you can test this feature yourself and let me know if you run into the same problem but I warn you... if you run into the same problem, you will need to get it replaced and your phone won't work. Would be nice to know if this is a common problem but I'm not sure people are willing to take that chance and basically break their phone on purpose. It's like telling someone to press the big red self-destruct button to see what happens lol.
Factory reset from the bootloader..... and talk back works fine. And if it does fail on my phone i re install my rom, i love my unlocked, s-offed M8. Makes it all so easy

Sorry, I think you're misunderstanding my previous explanation. I cannot swipe nor can I scroll. I cannot select anything. The entire phone becomes bugged/glitched. You'd be amazed if you could watch the short video I made of it. It's more extreme than you think. Everything just goes haywire.
I'd like to say I'm a very tech savvy person since I do a lot of computer-related design, I can build computers, troubleshoot viruses, clean my registry, and "techie" things. I'm not just some average consumer who bought a phone and doesn't know how to use a smart phone. I'm very proficient with smartphones. With that said, there is seriously something wrong with the Talkback function. Enabling it almost feels like a virus is attacking the OS. I honestly don't need to use that particular function but what if one day I do or someone else might need to use it.
I actually got a new replacement yesterday and I'm not even going to touch that function whatsoever until I find some answers and a possible solution. I have everything synced to my new phone with my contacts, multiple email accounts, apps, social media, etc. and I'm not going to risk running into that problem and being forced to factory reset my phone. If you know the pain of having to reinstall your OS on a PC which I've done dozens of time throughout the years then you'll understand how painful that process really is because you have to reinstall all your software again.
I found another bug on my new phone as well and made a thread about it already. +/- for Selfie Mode doesn't work. Just greaaaaaat.

LOOOOL...ROFLLLLL...
I remember the first time I ever turned talkback on. "Panic" should be included as an official feature. Obviously, like our friend here, I didn't bother to read all the operational instructions that came with it, and thought for sure I had killed my phone.
Hint: you really have to use "2 fingers" to go anywhere!

My heartbeat sensor will turn on whenever it's covered. Almost like a proximity sensor in a reversed fashion.
In the one call I've placed since the update I've also noticed the front proximity sensor having a major delay in turning the screen off after putting the phone to my face to talk.
Anyone having these issues? Any fixes?
I've used S health to measure my heart rate in an attempt to correct the issue like one guy mentioned but I think he spoke to soon as it is not a fix.
Sad to say, it was merely a temporary fix, I did speak too soon. I have since tried disabling S Health altogether and that still didn't fix it. Today, I'm going to attempt flashing all the way back to original firmware via odin and then taking the OTA's back to lollipop to see if anything changes.

update: after reboot it went away, then i noticed as soon as i plugged it in to charge, it came back. i used s-health to check heart rate, then it went away again. unplugging/replugging into charger did not make it come back.

Hi everyone,
So I just got my screen replaced by UBreakIFix, and now, the fingerprint sensor is getting the "Enrollment was not completed. Can't use fingerprint sensor" message. Since I remember reading about Google releasing a calibration tool, I just tried it. I tried in fastbootd (which gets stuck on downloading) and fastboot (gets stuck at installing). I was wondering if root might be an issue? Or if anyone knows any way to get it working?
Please note that I am trying to avoid factory resetting, but if it really seems like my final option, then I will try it out since I read that people still could not get the fingerprint sensor working after the factory reset.
I don't know if this still applies: Official Google Pixel Install fingerprint calibration software
I think I remember reading in this section about various users saying they couldn't get it to work on their P6P, either.

It still does. I have been lurking around the Google Pixel community, and it seems the issue still persists, with no one able to figure out how to get the tool working. The article does say that it would require users to factory reset their phone after, but I have been reading that people still had the same issue after running the calibration tool and factory resetting. I am just questioning if it is only happening to users with root. I am even considering reflashing the official Feb OTA update and then try without root (pray that it is the issue), but if that does not work, I might have to factory reset and pray that it works.
This was happening to me recently but I got it to work on my third try. The only thing I did differently on my third try was press my finger on the sensor harder with each scan and then it worked without issue.
*Edit* - @NelsonTheMoron I couldn't tell if you were joking or not due to your username, haha (and I guess my username is pretty goofy as well lol). But I added a few words to my comment in case there was some confusion.
