I have a Sprint 6700 and when you use the phone keyboard to enter ##DEBUG# you get to the Fieldtrial Screen. In the upper left corner is a dropdown box for 1X and HDR. On the Verison phone you also get an indication for GPS which shows your position within about 100 feet!
I would like to be able to activate the GPS indication in my phone. Anyone have any ideas?? Of course, I know that it is A-GPS only but the indication on the Verison phone seemed to indicate current position, speed, heading, and altitude! It would seem that an app could be written to use that information for a map program.
Thanks for any info
Answered my own question.
Go to HKLM\software\oem\FieldTrial
and set the value from 4 to 0
This now brings up the GPS page I wanted but all of the entries are N/A
So, now the question is how to activate the information like the Verison folks can!
Thanks for any suggestions.
it seems like the carrier has to enable this information to be sent to the phone...I say this because sprint phones with the family locator service have gps info in fieldtrial, whereas the same phone, just without the locator service does not. e911 data is still passed between phone and tower, but the other gps settings are not.
Ive done some searching and found others searching for the same but I canont seem to find anything.
I'm looking for something that will indicate the current strength of the signal in percentage of the network im connected to, maybe even with the SSID
Ideally a little today plugin/icon that simple says netgear: 80% or something like that.
Its my understanding that the app "batterstatus" does this but its far too complicated for me and besides I cant seem to find a percentage representation only a db one
I was thinking about making the WiMAX Notifier use the LED for what it's (presumed) original purpose was - showing when you have a 4G connection. So I was wondering, does the system send a notification when connectivity changes? Basically, my use case is that the LED should be on if and only if the system shows the 4G icon in the notification bar.
currently it does not and is not being utilized with HTC's implementation of wimax
So not even ConnectivityManager.CONNECTIVITY_ACTION (android.net.conn.CONNECTIVITY_CHANGE) gets sent?
i have run wimax since i got my phone (luckily in a startup location) and i have never once seen the wimax indicator turn on, rooted or not

I know the LED currently isn't utilized for indicating connectivity. I'm trying to figure out if the system provides the appropriate info so that I could make my app supply this functionality.
I guess I'll just have to play around with it later.
went to use google wallet at the same petco that I have used several times before, but this time no blue bars just four gray bars and google wallet no worky?
running stock as can be
Grey bars mean your phone isn't connected to the google servers. A quick fix is to open the google talk app and it should re-connect.
I get greyed out bars (actually their greyed out as I typed this) with no lines in the signal either to represent bar numbers.
And yea..I don't use Google Wallet, stock phone, on Verizon.
Phone blows balls for getting and keeping a signal, first time on Verizon service and I HOPE to god this isn't how their service really is because after all the fame their the best this phone is leading me to believe otherwise.
Grey bars are not the cause of the problem, they're the reaction to your signal not being proper and sync not being up to date.

Proper? What does that mean in English? Starting to wonder if my phone is defective or its this software in the radio or possibly even hardware.

If your connection is dropping then it surely isn't going to keep synced to Google properly.... and then Google Wallet isn't going to work.
I dunno what your particular problem is, or whats wrong on your device. I'm just explaining that the grey bars are just a result of your phone not being connected continuously, not the problem that is creating your disconnection.

A link to the definition of proper..hm okay not a dumbass, I know what the meaning of the word is..what I asked for was what you were getting at and the problem.
All you had to say was their greyed out because the phone is not keeping a signal, but if that's the case do I have a signal when its greyed out, or just that the phone is not keeping a signal? I said I called my voicemail and got through but was a bit choppy. Not sure what I'm getting for data, nothing is displayed for that.

Do you always cuss at people who take time out of their day to help others?
Thread moved to Q&A.
logging into google talk did not change anything other than not being able to use google talk as well, for purposes of discussion, the location I was at had 4 blue bars, prior to moving and staying at 4 gray bars.
and today at the market
had gray wifi, how is that possible?
I thought gray == dormant data connection?
Does anyone have gray bars only on 3G? I've had gray bars with no 3G symbol all day yesterday. Tried the google talk thing, doesnt work. Browser wont work either.
I thought it was a Verizon network outage but 4G works just fine (blue bars)
understand why 3g/4g does not connect
but why would you have gray wifi?

Easy. Google's servers are down but your wifi or cell connection is still working. So therefore gray bars due to no google but data still up. Happens once in a while.
Green = google server connected
Gray = no google server, but doesnt mean the whole web is down
Gray bars means no connection to Google's servers.
Hello all, I am a fairly new T-Mobile user and I had a few questions about the service. I am a little confused about the service that is being reported on my phone and I don't know if this is something with T-Mobile or android. When I have service I will have the traditional bars and the 4G indicator. Well I was in the store today and I never get service in here while I'm in the back of the store but up front I get 2 - 3 bars. While I was in the back of the store my phone was reporting 5 bars but no data and I am unable to text or call. When I move to the front, the bars will drop to 2 bars and I get 4G. My question is why is my phone showing 5 bars when I have no service? Also, if I did in fact have 5 bars.. shouldn't I be able to text without data? I did have Network Signal Info installed that I was using to monitor my connect but I didn't have it installed at the time because I just installed Darthstalker ROM (not the issue because it was like this on all the other roms). Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!

The next time you want to check signal strength don't rely on the bars. Instead go to settings>general>about device>status your signal strength is indicated in dbm and asu. No service if I remember correctly is -115dbm.
I have attached a few screen shots of when I disabled data and tried to send a text. It looks like its getting a pretty strong signal to the celltower. I am using 8sms app.. would that have something to do with it? Thanks.
Ok just a little update. It looks like my phone is picking up a Cingular tower as shown under net operator: 310410 which is giving me such high service when I don't have any. When I connect to the T-mobile network, it shows net operator: T-mobile and the service drops to the usual level. So I am able to send txt's and make calls without data and it is a case of no service.
