Is it possible to change the status bar?
I want to keep an eye on my data usage just in case it swiches to data from wifi.
Thanks,
Mo

You should see your mobile network icon above your wifi network icon, practically on top of each other. When one is being used or unused it is highlighted or shaded out appropriately. At least for me
What exactly do you want? If data is being used, how much data? or what?
I want to make sure when I'm at home or work that I'm on wifi and not using data
Well, there is an indicator just for this, beside the signal bars, if cellular data is being used, 2 arrows will appear, and the type of connection present, 2g, 3g, 4g or lte, so, what else do you need?
Cool tool (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ds.cpuoverlay) will allow you to actually see the quantity and or rate of data usage. Plus a million other options.

There's also QuickStar (or Quick Panel Star) on the *Samsung Store*.
Well, if the stock indicators are not good enough for you, as san diego says, there are more options via apps, You can try network monitor mini, it is highly customizable, it is a floating indicator, so, it will be always visible, can even auto hide when there is no traffic at all

I have just upgraded from a Kaiser to the TP2.
Using comm. manager on the Kaiser I could manually select 3G to be on or off.
I installed advanced config manager and enabled the 3G tab in comm. manager but it remains greyed.
Any data connection I make appears to connect in Gprs mode with no 3G or H icon displaying in the top bar.
How do I get 3G working on the TP2?
Am I missing something here?

It automatically goes to 3G if it's available. I don't get 3G in my house. But you don't have to do anything, it's automatic.
T-Mobile removed the icons for the mode. They only did a half-ass job though as the mode shows up once a data connection is established over the bars. Oops! I think this is an attempt to hide the fact that on the roads and byways, most of T-Mobile's network is still GPRS - not even EDGE!
Find one of the Icon packs here on XDA - they work. It will connect in 3G automatically if its available. You can shut that off (doing so saves battery if you're in a known no-3G area as it won't search for the signal) on the Phone settings option if you wish.

T-Mobile has the icons for the 3G mode. It has the "E" for Edge and "3G" for 3G.
It automatically connects to 3G, there's no need to search for anything. The only reason you'd want that is if you want to NOT use 3G.

Yes and no.
The "standby" icons for data mode available ("G", "E", "3G", or "H") are missing from the T-Mobile load. The proper mode does identify over the antenna bars once a data connection comes up, but in data-standby, its missing.
This is an intentional omission as the standard Icon pack from HTC includes these. If you load one of the icon packs off XDA they will "magically appear."
I like knowing what mode is available (not just in use, if any is in use) so I have one of the other icon packs loaded - plus I think they're far more pretty

OK thanks. I agree, I also want to know what mode I am currently using. Can you recommend one of the icon packs?
I'm partial to the Spikes' MicNeo ones here.

Hello - does anyone know of a mod that changes the taskbar icon to show when you're in a 1x signal area? Someone did provide a link to a widget to do this, but I'm wondering if there is an option that replaces the static 3g signal icon with one that changes between 1x and 3g? I tried searching this thread and the theme section but 1x is too short for XDA's search. Running Myn's ROM. Thanks much...

Unless I'm missing something, the notification bar will show 3G when you're IN 3G and 1x if you're IN 1x....
The icons themselves are in framework-res.apk if you wish to change them but as far as them changing, they do so automatically...

I'm sort of in the same boat. There's probably like 2% of people here that want a 1x/3g mod so I don't think the support will go to it.
It "suppose" to switch from 3g to 1x if you are in a 1x area but i't doesn't do it for me. but if you only want to know when you are connected to 1x than you can download this app for free on market called Cellumap. It will show a bunch of crap about the network you're on but it also shows 1xrrt or Evdo_a/o(3g). But I don't think there's a app out that changes your network icon to 1x when connected

For whatever reason, HTC or Sprint decided to mask 1x service with the 3g icon. I've driven through the same service areas with CM6 and a Sense ROM (Myn 2.2) and when service drops to 1x, CM6 shows the change. However, the Sense ROMs mask the change making you think you are always on 3g. Here is a post that discusses it in detail: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803307&page=3
It's really annoying when you are using data and it drops from 3g to 1x but the phone doesn't show the change. Any suggestions?
Probably Sprint's way of making you think they have more 3G than they actually do?

Probably, tmobile does the same with their H icon for 3g and HSPA+
Maybe Mobile Signal Widget would report a 1X data rate on a sense ROM? Not the ideal solution, I know.

Thanks... just installed it but it sucks that it takes up valuable screen space with a widget. I guess it's better than nothing.
I appreciate all the insight, and interesting that Tmob does something similar. Maybe a dev would be interested in taking this on?
I know with stock you get the network type above the signal bars, then the INOUT arrows inside the bars, but would it be possible, by theme probably, to make the icon to the side like it used to be on previous Android versions, or Samsung/Sony phones?
I've seen screen shot where people seem to have this.. but I just got my OP7T (used the OP migration too to move from OP6), and I do not have any "bars" in my status bar to indicate cell signal strength.
Tmobile, USA.
I *can* add the upload/download speed to the status bar... but again, normally you have the 1-5 bars of cell reception strength.
I can't find anything wiich clearly says there were purposely removed.
I'm on build 10.0.7.HD65AA
thanks!
Mike
EDIT: I can add my own bars thru an app like LTE Discovery.. but again, I thought this was part of the stock OS?
EDIT2: ok, solved.. Status bar.. Icon manager... Cellular data.
Not just the carrier, but the network logo.
I point out what I mean on this screenshot.
Thanks.

Try system UI tuner. You'll need to give it access via ADB.
Not sure if you can hide the actual signal though but it's got a lot of options which may help

Ok forget about the carrier.
Can the network logo be removed without ADB.
I can't use ADB.
I thought there is an option somewhere in a menu in Android.
Good Lock has a submodule, QuickStar. It can let you hide or rearrange any element in the statusbar.
I wish there was a way to show actual signal strength (-dBm) instead of "bars".
I know there are customizations but that requires rooting which is pretty much taboo these days.

I second that. Just use GoodLock. Find the NiceLock APK and NiceLock downloader on XDA and start using it. These modules have a lot of features that we all used to grab from GravityBox, XTouchwiz etc.
I just realized if the phone is connect to wifi the logo desappears.

If you your phone loses 5G, and reverts to 4G, that logo will change accordingly. All it is stating is what Data service you are getting when connected to mobile network. Disappears when connected to Wifi as that becomes your current data connection.
No way to get rid of the Mobile network 4/5G indication when Wifi off

I am on Exynos model and I don´t have any 3G/4G/5G until I turn on the cellular data. In Europe it is G, E, 3G, H, H+, LTE, LTE+ then.

P20 pro has it natively, I think it looks mental personally.
System UI tuner would be your best bet without installing anything.
You'll need ADB from a pc though, no root needed.
Once you've granted it access it'll work from thereon in.
Signal strength option may be hidden in Android so sys UI might provide it. Check it out

Lol Edge. Can't remember the last time I saw an E sign.
Remember when 3G was fast. Personally I'd turn off 5G so it's not constantly trying to find a connection, if you're in a 4G area the speed should be more than enough
I'm not sold on 5G.
This is average for me.

Yeah I remember when I looked for a 3G zone in my town, these were the times. The E sign happens sometimes but I have a spot in my town where I can even get a G for GPRS I have turned the 5G right away too because the maximum I have in my town is LTE+ and the most common is H/H+. They are testing the lower 5G and advertising it as 5G ready. The same trick was with HSPA+ and they called it 4G ready
