ROOT; Android 10 - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

After Android 10 update (via fastboot; factory images)
Substratum does not compile/build overlays; the only reason I can think of is not being rooted.
I used the root method using Magisk & fastboot
Is there a different method of rooting with Android 10?
Thanks

i noticed the same thing when using substratum and substratum navigate theme for navbar customization , built and installed as usual but had no effect , i don`t think it has anything to do with root (but i could be wrong) i just think the themes are not updated to work with android 10 yet. As the theme i was using was last updated on july 25 2017 ...lol noticing that i actually surprised it worked on android 9.
Just check about app info in specific substratum themes your installing to make sure they are android 10 compatible. hope that helps :good:

Interesting, I use Domination substratum theme and it was updated Sunday for use with Android 10. This has me stumped.

yeah that sucks , i`m not really sure what might be causing that since it`s an android 10 compatible theme , hopefully someone with more experience will be able to shed some light , i`ve only used flux and navigate themes back on android 9 , but like you im hoping to be able to theme android 10. Not sure if the link helps but there`s a substratum forum on xda , maybe someone there might have advice

Just use substratum lite with compatible theme like ethereal and build overlays and reboot, you do need root
Cheers ?

[Q] Rom Recommendations

Hey,
I had a horrible bootloop-infection on my phone today for no reason; maybe its the sign to replace the Rom; i had a milestone 5 from AOKP [ around june WTF??!?) installed and was enjoying it till this day;
I was waiting for the last 4.2 Rom update from AOKP but since no update for the last month i decided to get something new and fresh instead, so thought to come back here and ask you guys thos flash junkies or just people who realy enjoy their current ROM;
I wasnt here for 6 months due to studying in the university so most of the names are new to me in the Development section that's why i realy need the help to choose;
I dont need much only good battery life; option to remove the notification bar and to have the navigation bar transparent or invisible;
Currently sitting with 4.0.2 clean recovery Rom that i made on the start of February o0 build waiting for responses;
Thank you;
Well, I am not using any of these custom ROMs so I am always supporting the idea of going over the main thread of the most popular ROMs in the development section then choosing whatever seems reasonable to you. Try it, then if any complaints then go for another.
If you really want a 4.2 AOKP ROM, then check this
I hope you have a break from the university so you can play with these custom ROMs
Thank you ahmadallica;
I'm studying software engineering so my free time is for sleep only currently thats why i ask for guidance due to the fact i dont have much time to test each Rom;
The Rom you gave looks realy nice from the outside but sounds more of a huge nightly build instead of a stable one, with so many stuff missing and probably he just uses the AOKP frame without adding/updating/changing any stuff moreover the lack of changlog and an overall [work/not work] stuff that the rest of the Rom developers show suggesting its just an amateur one; i really appreciate this dude's hard work but i need something stable for half a year and not to be one of this Rom testers;
Highly recommend paranoid android, been through leads of custom ROMs and I've stuck with this the longest ... give it a go, excellent team and excellent ROM

I'm realy liking what i see on Paranoid one tho; looks awesome;
Only question is are there any themes which support it or can u adjust color yourself from inside the system?
Muzzys looks like a full slim version with no additional features not sure thats what im looking for;

Well, I searched for MMuzzy's and it is available here.
Be careful because I found that in the "Verizon" section so do NOT flash it if you are running a GSM GNex

Paranoidandroid is definitely the way to go. The new version is still in beta but almost completely stable in my opinion. Themes are hit or miss at this stage of the ROM but yes, you can adjust the colors for the navbar, statusbar, navigation icons and statusbar icons within each app. It can be found in settings/paranoidpreferences/apps.
I've been using this rom since v1.98, it's now at 2.99 BetaNINE and I have not looked at anything else.
*Sidenote, PA used to be CM based up until version 2.54, starting with 2.99 Beta1 it is now AOSP based for a smoother and faster experience with better battery life. This is why some features are not yet added back and other things are not fully perfected (i.e. themes).
The problem with themes is that with every new Beta of PA comes some new code and the themers cannot always keep up with every new release so a lot of themes end up causing issues. I would just customize as I recommended above for now and once AOSPA 3.0 is released PA will be out of beta and easier to find compatible themes.
Yes you can adjust the colour of the status bar and nav bar for each app individually from with the hybrid engine within the rom... Most play store themes support it too... anything else just let me know

Thank you dankblaze for all that info;
I realy dont need that much of customization just that all bars/system/screens be with the same color and to be able to adjust that 1 color myself;
Is that possible in the new 2.99 or should i get the 2.54?

Personally, I like TWRP so check this on how to install it easily. Take note that if you have CWM nandroid backups then they will NOT be compatible with TWRP because it has its own nandroid backups.
As for kernel, just try them till you find a suitable one
Thx bro, i might give it a try tho is there something wrong staying with CWM ? i dont care much for the backups im gonna format it anyway. but i read inside you say it not for Gnex and thats its only for the Nexus 4? is that true?

No no. That was for the other member in that thread who was mentioning a Nexus 4 version. TWRP works on both of them. Basically just download the Goo Manager app then it will install the correct version automatically just follow the steps to save some time for your software engineering studies
I will copy the steps below so you don't have to worry about that link in my previous post.
1- Run GooManager app
2- Click on the upper right 3 dots for settings
3- Click "Install OpenRecoveryScript"
4- Confirm Recovery Install --> Yes
5- Confirm download, reboot, and install --> Yes
6- A download process will start then it will be installed
7- (Optional) Reboot into recovery to ensure that TWRP is successfully installed and working.
And no there is nothing wrong with CWM, I just personally like TWRP
If you are staying with CWM, then just update it to the latest version before installing any 4.2 ROM. I think installing/flashing the latest CWM recovery can be done easily using the "ROM Manager" application from the Play Store
Jb sorcery latest is great and has every tweak you can think of, very stable and they have inverted gaapps!!!

I recommend using TWRP. There were some problems with multiple media folders being created when flashing with CWM. I know latest TWRP did not have this problem. Don't know if latest CWM still does this or not.

Rooted Stock Nougat and Substratum???

I have the xt1625 non Amazon version. Installed EX kernel 1.01 and I used the systemless Supersu method to root stock Nougat 7.0. version NJ??? - 11. Installed BusyBox, etc... My question is this, Has anyone found any dark, black or transparent layers that work correctly on stock Nougat? Substratum works smoothly but the layers theme I use on Aicp has multiple color choices and when I use it on stock Nougat it always builds with the same ugly purple, pink and blue. No matter which colors I choose! I'm really trying to find a theme so I can get system ui, etc black with red or orange accents but anything close would work... Thanks

[Custom Rom] Huawei Mate 8 - NXT-L29C432B582
- Custom System Update - ("V.6")
- EMUI 5.01 - Android 7 -
On TWRP backup basis.
This update replaces the [K-Rom-M8-V5].
Developed and tested on this device:
Huawei Mate 8 (NEXT)
Model number: Huawei NXT-L29
Build number: NXT-L29C432B582
- OTA updated.
- Without branding, with root and root access.
- TWRP recovery
Mods:
- Call Recorder
- KangVip Advanced settings
- Autostart administration in the phone manager (PM+)
- Viper 4 Android FX
- Obtaining OTA authorization
I couldn't test if this runs on Firmwares other regions.
I think the v6 is going on all regions on B582/592.
Quick guide for experienced users:
Please make a backup of your data with Huawei Backup and TWRP.
The Rom will be installed as if you wanted to restore a TWRP backup.
All your apps remain intact.
Conditions required:
- Firmware B582,
- TWRP recovery, (from download, or available from v5 )
- root is not necessary,
- OEM and FRP unlocked,
- USB Debugging on.
All required files are in the download folder.
You are familiar with the matter? Then let's go!
If available, uninstall these apps: SuperSu and Magisk.
A unroot is not necessary. Please do not download the downloads as "ZIP".
Installation:
1. Replace existing boot partition:
"2017-12-M8.B582.stock.kernel.boot"
copy in the TWRP backup directory to the ExtSd and restore.
2. Install update:
"2017-12-M8_B582_AdvS_Xposed_SystemUpdate"
also copy to the TWRP backup directory and restore."
3. Rooting:
- In TWRP mount Internal storage/ system,
- go to: Install, system/ k-rom/ set and install the SuperSU. zip.
- Reboot.
- After starting, take the BusyBox App from the download.
Then please use it to install its binaries.
- Install the PM+ app and bring the autostart administration to the phonemanager.
Iggnore the incompatibility warning.
Do not reboot between steps 1 to 3. Do not wipes before and after.
That's all. The installation is complete.
If Viper or Xposed have not been installed with it, this can be found in the
Advanced settings can be made up for.
Xposed is already active. In case the framework gets disabled,
in the Advanced settings. There's no way use other Xposed versions.
This also applies to SuperSU. They are not compatible with this system.
Both are optimized for this system.
Of course, you can also use Magisk to root later with the instructions
in the v5 thread. (loss of ota authorization)
Xposed does not run under magisk rooting together with the Advanced settings.
It must be used for a successful SafetyNet test, must be completely removed before rooting.
In the Kangvip Advanced settings do not use the Addblocker and "hide Activate NavBar".
Both works only on China Roms.
Hiding the NavBar can be done comfortably with the App "Tiles" from the playstore. (See v5)
In the K-Advanced Settings /tune cpu, some of the following are available.
Modifications of the computer performance possible. Those who need more power can do so.
Testing out the "Power save" options is useless. Did a lot of it.
The Huawei's own energy saving settings cannot be topped.
Good luck!
Thank you very much:
[KangVIP] (Advanced settings),
@Tecalote (SuperSU)
and Chainfire, Stephen (Stericson) + Jmz Software, Team Win RecoveryProject,

question is rather: how to make new roms if there arent any new firmwares being developed officially?
Sent from my HUAWEI NXT-AL10 using Tapatalk
Yeah, that's an aspect too. Making a new rom after every update is somehow unproductive. Just because of the google patch? I only made my update because of the stable xposed. I only make new ones in the future if something fundamentally changes.
Any news about oreo guys?[emoji848]
