I'm on US998 20H.
I deleted Chome folder in /system/app/, restart and some apps couldn't run, they just crashed. These are bank apps and some apps that requires the phone's system to not be modified in order to run.
I thought it was because of the new version of Magisk Manager since I updated Magisk Manager to ver. 7.3.4 right before that.
After a couple times trying to uninstall, reinstall Magisk through TWRP (which caused my phone to not be able to boot up and I had to restore the TWRP backup many times), I tried installing Magisk but not deleting the Chrome folder, and things were back to normal.
This is weird to me because I've done this on other phones but didn't got into bootloop.
So I just wanted to warn you guys to not delete anything in /system/app or /system/priv-app in order to get rid of system apps.

Chrome can function as "Webview Implementation" in "Developer Options". You just have to reinstall Chrome which will go into /data/app and set "webview implementation" in "Developer Options" to Chrome and it'll be fixed. A lot of apps require this to work including Gmail, Amazon, Banking apps, etc. Android System Webview is another app that can function instead of Chrome and all the variants (Chrome stable, Chrome Dev, Chrome Beta, Chrome Canary, etc.)

What if I still delete chrome, but then I enable and update Android System Webview? Will it work then?

Thank you so much.
I enabled and updated Android System Webview (I disabled Google Chrome before that) and switched to Android System Webview in Developer Options/WebView implementation.
I now be able to delete Chrome folder in /system/app without causing the other apps to crash.
Still feel like mentioning that: the idea to delete some files with a root file manager without having any kind of backup sounds pretty stupid to me. I hope you learned a lesson otherwise I suggest to disable root ...

What do you want to achieve deleting system files? Did you want to debloat? there's someone here build debloated h932 20s. If you don't have 932 variant, the list of debloated apps might be a good start.

It's common people frightening, after doing wrong. It even scarier when backups that we have won't help much (usualy app related to carrier, related to telephone, dialer, contact, etc still give you error after restored, and must reset the phone). Froze the app would be safer method to get rid of bloat

Having just got my new Gemini - I'm interested to know how to remove a lot of the Google junk that I don't need - i.e. gBoard, Duo etc. If try to uninstall them - it seems to only remove the update - not the actual apps. I certainly really don't nee update to the Korean keyboard etc (I'm UK only) we seem to be forced on me via gBoard?
How do you disable these apps and stop them nagging for updates?

I rooted my phone by following the guide on Planet website about flashing rooted Android: support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Flashing_Guide (I am a new user - no links, sorry) installing TWRP and from it Magisk. I tried several apps but finally Titanium Backup allowed me to uninstall system apps (be careful though, some really are needed).

Go into Settings>Apps
You will see a list of apps (both the ones you know about and some hidden, behind-the-scenes programs). Find one you want to disable, tap on it, and you should see a button that says Disable.
Warning: Don't disable software Android needs to operate. On my device it seems it won't let me disable core items, but I have seen other devices offer to let me disable things that might badly break things were I to click.

To cut down on apps I didn't need I would use TWRP's file manager to remove/delete apps I didn't use ( but could be downloaded from the play store if needed ) from /system/app /system/priv-app
I fresh installed the 8.1 Oreo firmware but now for some reason any app I try to remove/delete from /system/app or /system/priv-app stays installed and still works perfectly, I have no idea why this is

I experienced something similar when I was uninstalling all apps I don't need after rooting my phone.
Normal system apps worked fine uninstalling (used sdmaid)
But when I tried to uninstall things like motorola.bug2go or brapps (motorola.brapps), my account, my benefits, mybells etc it didn't work, neither with uninstaller nor deleting in system/apps folder. Most of them are disabled by standard but we'll.. why should I need an app I never heard from and which is even disabled in original ROM?

Even with system as read write and deleting for example Contacts ( or any app that won't update via play store ) the app is still somehow installed and working fine
did a TWRP backup to confirm apps weren't pretending to get erased and the apps i removed weren't there so the apps are being removed
Tried formatting data ( apps removed from system are still there )

The best way to uninstall stock apps is to use debloat. If you use anything else, I guess that may interfere with user apps, and that may be the cause. Just try to use debloat which is a magisk module that creates a terminal command that lets you uninstall systemlessly. If you have any questions, just reply!

The module is called debloater. It's in the download section of magisk manager. You can sort it alphabetically to find it quickly. When you find it, install it, do a reboot and voila.
The module only works if you have a terminal app. If you use a lineageos based rom like I do, you can enable the app via developer options. If not, then no problem. Try to find any terminal emulator via google play. Thus, you can use it! :victory:

I cann't find a solution to install apps in sideload on my Pixel 2XL.
It was after flashing version 10 in the beginning of september.
After a lot of trying I give up and hope someone else here can help me.
My Pixel 2XL is unlocked but not rooted.
Normally I do the sideload by transfer an apk to my dropbox. After that I start it up and do what the system tells me.
Nowadays I got a return of a message in dropbox that -it is impossible to open the apk and download an app to open the apk-.
After that I download the apk to my download folder to try again. Then, when trying to startup, I get a popup with the name off the apk, the version nr, the size and packagename.
There is also a button to view apk content. When I push that button the right folders of the apk are indeed visible.
There are also 3 options. One to install, one to go to playstore and one to stop further actions and go back.
When I try to use the button install the result is that nothing happened, no signal, no message from the system, no popup, really nothing.
You all know that this is not what I want. I just want to install the apk. I have tried it with a few other apk's with the same results. :crying:
Before the last OTA upgrade to android 10 it was normal to install with these methods.

Have you enabled install apps from unknown sources? You'll also need to enable apps to install apps from what I can see in android 10. If you pull up an apps indignation you can expand the options and there will be an option to allow it to install apps, which Dropbox may need. The first one needs to be enabled to install apks from the download folder.

I did all these settings before.
Now I tried to open another filemanager (Google Files) and that did the job.
I don't know why installing in dropbox or installing in es file explorer doesn't do the same with equal settings.
Maybe an idea to uninstall and re-install these apps?

Android 10, install from unknown sources is like an app permission now, you have to grant it to things like chrome (download apk and install) and file managers rather than a global setting for phone. Safer as you trust an app o do it rather than letting some malware in background filling your phone with crap.

Uninstalling and reinstalling will not work, as I've done that with my modded version of ES File Explorer. This is a change in Android itself.
Go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > Special App Access > Install Unknown Apps. A list of apps will appear. Select an app and toggle the switch.
NOTE: Dropbox is on the list, but at least on my device my modded version of ES File Explorer is not.

Today I needed to pay something through my banking application, but the application did not allow me access because it detected malicious software on my phone and it is Whatsapp PLUS, which I have to uninstall in order to enter the banking application.
What should I do now if I use Whatsapp PLUS all the time, but at the same time I need access to my banking application?
How does a banking application detect that I am using an illegal Whatsapp Plus application?
Is there a way around it?

This might seem trivial, but have you tried revoking the "Get info about installed apps" permission?
Most apps use this to index all your apps and check for so-called "malicious" package names.

What is the package name of your whatsappPlus app? You should find it in the "App Info" page for the app. Should be something like "com.whatsapp"

In that case you either modify the app itself - use apk editor to decompile app , edit manifest.xml and remove permissions like "query all packages" from it . Compile the app and run it again. This might work but if app is protected in some way that it detects modification you might get banned from it or worse :/
Other way is to isolate WhatsApp Plus by using tools like virtual xposed - basically a virtual container. You can install WhatsApp in there and it shouldn't cause any issues but I'm not sure you'll be able to receive notifications... ( You can try installing bank app in there instead but I'm not sure how that'll work... Either it will detect root/xposed or the container itself will allow querry all packages to seep through into main os - this depends on whether virtualxposed has declared permission for querying packages or not )
Third option is probably the best one - Uninstall and use web browser to access banking.
