No USB Options Anymore - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hey all, I'm having a really weird issue (Google searches give nothing but the static/generic answer on how to access this area), where my USB Options are no longer there, when I tap the three dots, in the Storage area.
Stock Firmware, Android 6.0.1, Rooted using TWRP Recovery. I've never had an issue with this before, and it was working fine a week ago. No new apps installed, since then.
When I plug the device into my computer, it says charging, but no other USB connection.
Any one have any ideas, as to why or better still, how to get it back?
Thanks
EDIT/UPDATE: I did a factory reset, and it's still not there. I can't even completely wipe it, and start fresh since I can't access it at all, from my PC.

I had a similar issue. The tablet stopped charging and the data connection was being interrupted all the time.
It might happen that the female micro-USB connector (on the tablet) becomes unfirm/loose after some years of use. The micro-USB connectors are well-known to fail after some years, because there are two pins that fix the male connector inside the female one. They get loose over time. This is a general frailty of female micro USB connectors in all devices.
- Try an other usb cable. (Better: try out different cables, perhaps one will work.)
Also, the female connector might be dirty. There might be debris on the contacts.
- You can try to clean the female connector (at your own risk!), I did it carefully with a tissue soaked with ethanol.
In theory, it might be possible to replace/repair the connector if everything else fails.

[Q] Flash Drive with MicroUSB connection (not USB)

I can connect USB sticks to my phone using a USB On The Go (OTG) cable which is basically a microUSB to USB adaptor.
That's great but I am looking cleaner solution. Is there a flash drive (such as USB stick) that has a microUSB male connector and can plug straight into the microUSB socket of my phone. There are plenty of adaptors and microUSB card readers but no microUSB flash drives, it seems.
I have seached all over the internet to no avail. has anyone come across such a thing?
bump, i really want one of these
BUMP!!!
I imagine a tiny flash drive where you can remove the USB plugin/cover, and underneath, see that it is meant to connect to a microUSB port.
Would be awesome for Android (Nexus, Skyrocket, etc...)
I found this thread since I am about to get my first nexus device but have literally never thought about this before now. That may give you some indication of how small the market is since most phones come with expandable memory. However, when I consider how many random ass devices and connectors you can find strolling through an electronics store, I honestly can't understand why someone hasn't built this yet.

Computer can't see phone at all (no driver issue)

My phone isn't detected by my Winodws computers at all.
If I plug it into one of the USB ports directly, the phone starts charging, but that's it.
This is obviously not a driver issue as there's no unknown devices in Windows.
I tried different USB cables, USB-C and MicroUSB-to-USB-C adapters to no effect. Also tried this on two computers to no effect.
There's nothing in the phone's USB-C port (dust, dirt etc) and it's usually covered by the magnetic tip of my Volta charging cable (that's one of those "MagSafe-like" cables where the actual plug breaks off from the cable if you pull it)
If I connect the phone to a USB hub, the hub's ports usually light up when a device is connected. The phone does not trigger the port LED to light up.
Same behavior in System, Recovery and Download mode -> Computer doesn't even notice there's a new device, but device is charging (so apparently it notices there's something connected, just no data transfer)
Is my phone broken? Maybe a hardware problem with the USB-C port? Any advice on how to narrow down my problem?
Thanks in advance for any help or ideas you might have.
I had the same problem today but, in my case, it was the cable's connector.
Since you have multiple cables, it's unlikely they are the issue but it would be proof if you were able to check them with a different device. Also, ensure they aren't charge-only cables (I have a few of those; they lack data pins so devices don't slow-charge when they could rapid-charge instead).
You checked in download mode, so that eliminates configuration issues with Android.
That's all I got; it does appear to be the phone's connector or the USB interface.
A hail Mary would be to stick a 2PS6IMG.zip onto an SD card and RUU it in case firmware is the problem.
I'm pretty sure my cables could be used for data transfer as well. I'll try to find a colleague with USB c phone to try that as well. (family has all iPhones and most of my regular meet friends have phones from the stone age)
The firmware thing could be hard to do. Apparently you can't modify the Cid from within the phone anymore (setprop ro.cid doesn't do anything like it did on old HTC phones, despite having S-OFFed the phone) and T-MOB101 (T-mobile - the German parent of all those other clones) firmware is a rare sight.

Problems with USB-C connector?

I noticed that when I connect the phone via an USB-C cable to my computer or to an USB stick, the connector only works in one direction, like in the old USB-B days. When I rotate the plug it no longer works reliable.
Haven't faced such an issue. You should try another cable and if the issue is persistent, maybe the USB connector itself is having issues and you should reach out to Nokia service.
I tried several cables and eventually got in contact with retailer and received a new device. On the night before the new device arrived, I couldn't really charge the phone. Hopefully this won't happening again.

Usb C problem

Hi everyone.
I have my Pixel 2Xl for about 2 Years and everytime I put it on the charger the OG USB C Cable falls out of the port. Do anybody know how to fix it or do you know any USB C Cable that have a bigger USB C Pin so that the cable doesn't fall out every time?
Thanks
Have you checked very carefully that there is no crud in the usb port, you can use a pin and may be surprised on what is in there, my thinking is that it is possible dirt may be stopping a good connection.
Yes I have check the port. The Problem is that the cable fall out of the phone and I have test the feature with 3 different cables and every cable fall out
Had the same problem. Get a sim ejector tool, and use it to remove the gunk from your charging port. It wouldnt be visible as such, but you might be able to "feel" it as the base of the port would appear uneven when you move the ejector tool`s pin around. You would be surprised to see how much gunk and lint is there in your port. Once properly cleaned, your cable should start clicking in properly.
A safer method is to clean the gunk with a tooth floss stick.

Can't get file transfer/ADB/fastboot over USB

I just bought a used Pixel 2 XL and it has the file transfer/ADB/fastboot over USB problem. I've been through every solution here and on Google Pixel support with no luck (see below).
The phone connects via USB for a second and brings up ADB debugging auth, then disconnects. Every other thing I plug into the phone works fine (thumb drive, OTG camera, charger). Wireless ADB works fine, but I can't unlock the bootloader this way (that I know of). I can't get ADB or Fastboot access in bootloader or recovery mode.
I'm guessing software/kernel problem on the phone since everything else works with the USB port. I'm currently running build RP1A.201005.004.
On the factory image page, there's a new image, RP1A.201005.004.A1, Dec 2020, that I hope is a fix, but I've got no way to install it except if I get it OTA.
If anyone has any ideas on other things to try, please LMK! Thanks!
Solutions I've tried:
Cleaned port, dozens of cables, USB 1, 2, & 3 ports on four different machines and three different OS that work with ADB on other phones, every phone ADB/USB setting on/off in all combinations, cleared data for external storage, can't clear data for media storage because it's now grayed out in this build.
I've also tried the old tricks to try and get the OTA sent, but I'm guessing those tricks don't work with Android 11.
I may try replacing the internal USB port and cable since it's only $7, but I don't think it's the problem from what I've read in other posts here.

I just installed the update using ADB from my Chromebook via Crostini Linux. I had an issue at first due to the USB cable I was using. Switched to a USB 3 cable and it worked flawlessly. Kinda weird that after the update it still says October 2020. Looks like the .A1 on the end of the build is the only difference, other than whatever security updates they pushed.

I just got the update OTA today. I still can't get a USB connection to work for longer than a second or two. I've tried dozens of cables and several computers. I'm going a little crazy here.

I have noticed mine is a little finicky with ADB, especially when connected via USB 3.0. Connecting with USB 2.0 with a good cable seems to always be reliable and never disconnect. Also if you haven't tried using the stock cable that came with the Pixel, I would try that for sure.
I just replaced the internal USB assembly and nothing has changed. The old connector was definitely worn though.
I'll go back to trying more cables and ports. I ordered a cable that another poster claimed worked for them, but I had no luck with it.
For anyone wanting to replace their USB ass'y, here's what I learned from doing it. The service manual on ifixit is a good guide but leaves out a couple of important steps.
Heat is your friend. I used a clothes iron adjusted to 160F. The phone dissipates heat quickly so you may need to heat it several times. Place a towel over the screen and set the iron on it. I used guitar picks to pry up the screen and keep it separated while I heated the other sides.
The screen cable connection covers are hard to remove and you'll probably need a to use a metal spudger.
Heat the back of the phone to help remove the loudspeaker ass'y without damaging it, and again to remove the old cable ass'y.
The replacement ass'y I got had adhesive applied for the center of the cable, but not the adhesive foam pad under the antenna connector, so heat and scrape between the pad and phone body to remove it intact for reuse.
My old antenna connector partially came off in the white antenna connector and it was very hard to see what was wrong even under strong magnification.
You'll need a new screen adhesive sheet to reattach the screen securely.
Both parts came from a seller on ebay. Dougsgadgets was the only one that had both parts in stock. I think I paid $11 and they shipped quickly.
Good luck!
