Hey, I received August security patch today and I noticed that pictures taken in night mode are taking more size, they have more detail and that's good, but there's more noise than before. Pictures taken in Auto still don't have noise though.
Did someone notice this? I have the S9 exynos model.
Most of the photos taken with night mode still look very noisy in darker scenarios, october security patch installed.
Does anyone have this issue?
Same here, night mode suxs.
What I noticed is that night mode only performs well on its initial release. Its quality was easy better than in normal photo mode. However, after few updates, night mode sucks already. Now I prefer normal photo mode especially when hdr kicks in. Night mode, in its initial release have a really good light management, giving a better dynamic range

Yes, I hope samsung will fix this issue soon.
I reported the problem at samsung members and they told me to reset my device settings. But I already had reset the camera settings so resetting other settings won't change anything...
Edit: I just asked an agent in a live chat and he told me to send the bug report with some pictures to show the issue so samsung can fix it as soon as possible. Let's hope they will listen to us.
I reported the bug and they told me to reset connection settings for whatever reason. I asked the agent again and he told me that this hasn't anything to do with the camera. So he told me to reset my device's settings. I told him that it's a software issue because everyone I asked is facing the same problem so he told me to wait for the android 10 update. Seems like it's going to launch soon
I upgraded to november security patch yesterday, the noise seems to happen less often than before, but the highlights are still blown and the photo isn't clean in lower light, it's soft and it has a weird noise in it. And sometimes I got some flaring around the lights. There's a lot of inconsistency in this mode.
How can we tell Samsung to fix this issue?
Agents in live chat just keep telling me to reset settings or wait for the next update.
Well image quality is sure to degrade when taking photos in poor-lighting conditions. The camera compensates for this by raising the ISO level, but this has the unwanted of effect of creating a muddy looking picture.

With june and july updates I was able to take perfect night photos even in darker scenarios. But after august update the photos are much worse.
Look at the pics below, you can see how the ones one the left (june and july updates) are clean and the ones on the right (after august update) are just noisy and not as sharp.

I've noticed this week that I've got a line showing on all my new pictures. I've attached an example.
I remember my phone had fallen on thick carpet a few weeks ago and it may be linked to that fall.
So I'm wondering if the lens is broken.
What is weird is that when I do the focus for my picture the image is perfect, no line at all. And when the picture is taken this line appears. Are the image showed while you prepare the picture and the picture taken by 2 different lenses?
I've wiped the glass that's in front of the lens and checked whether I saw some kind of breakage but I don't see any (which doesn't mean it's not broken).
I've also tried taking a picture with another application and it also shows that line.
Do you think my lens is broken? And why does the line appear only once the picture has been taken?
Thanks
It could be that a line of the CCD is not functioning correctly, you might not be able to see it when focusing your phone because the image is higher resolution than the screen itself. I'm by no means an expert though, so I could easily be wrong.
Does the line always appear in the same place? It could be a CCD issue like mentioned above. Also, look through your gallery and see what date the line started, and try to correlate it to a specific event (you mentioned the fall). Something else you can try, though I don't know if it will help much, but backup your SD card to your computer and reformat it. It could be an issue with saving. Does the line appear when you look at it through Gallery or only when you blow it up on the PC? Or do you see the line in Gallery when you zoom in on the pic?
Do you have a video recorder on your phone? If you do, record a clip and see if the line appears. Try to view it on the phone and the computer
Other than that, I don't know of anything else other than a warranty replacement. Looking at the line I'm leaning more towards hardware damage, but I can be incorrect.
Thanks guys!

Yes the line always appear at the same place. I had already checked the date the line first appeared. The problem is I don't take pictures very often so I just know it appeared between mid-January and last week and that in between my phone fell on the carpet
I can see the line both in the Gallery (with or without zooming) and on the PC.
Interesting: I have recorded a video as you suggested and I can see no line. What's the difference between the way the camera and the video recorder work?
I will try formatting the SD card in a few days if I don't find any solution but like you I have the feeling this is a problem with hardware.
Definitely a dead row of pixels in the CCD. This ought to be a warranty issue, if your phone is still new enough.
It may not show up in videos, or in downscaled photos (i.e. if you set your camera to smaller resolutions) because of the way the image is processed, combining information from multiple rows of pixels essentially 'blurring out' the bad information. I presume you will only notice this when recording the highest camera resolution.
Sorry for the bad news. I think there is no cure except replacement.

BUt if there was a dead row of Pixed, then wouldnt it appear while focusing or constantly when the phone is running a game or something?

Negative. The CCD would only be used for the digital imaging, not for the display of the actual phone. Which is why it only affects captured images. A way to test it, download "ShootMe" from the market and take a screen shot. No lines.

The line is probably still there, but because of the recording quality it may not be rendering in the captured video. I'm sure if you recorded 720p you may be able to see a faint detection of the line, since it doesn't look too major in the still shots.

I'm leaning with this guy. Just forget to mention the whole "oops I dropped it" mess. And make sure that you keep it stock (I know your signature says that you're running stock, but how often do we update signatures anymore). Other than that it should be covered under warranty replacement, seeing how it hasn't been out for over a year yet (wasn't the DZ released like 1 Nov 2010?).
Thanks everyone!
I've justed tested video recording in 720p and I don't see the line.
I'm not rooted yet as I'm with 1.72 version and I would have to downgrade etc. so it won't be any problem to bring my phone back But this means I can't install Shootme and make the test either.
I am going to contact HTC to see how I can have my phone repaired or replaced. Hope there's a way to fix the problem easily and rapidly as I can't imagine having to go back to my HD2 for several weeks

Did you try a hard reset?
No, I haven't tried. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't fix the issue and as I wouldn't have the time for restoring everything (I can't use Titanium Backup) I prefer not doing a factory reset.
I've asked HTC how I can have my phone repaired: I would have to send my phone to a repair center which isn't a solution that fits me.
They also suggested to try starting in safe mode. I've followed their instructions (Check that the phone is turned off. Then turn it on. When you see the HTC logo press Volume Down button until phone vibrates.). But all I have is the bootloader and it doesn't propose safe mode
I've googled and searched on the forum to find a way to launch that safe mode but haven't found the solution for the moment ...
Kids is a week I try to solve all the way! We expose the problem.
Basically, the wave in question was purchased with the firmware already installed and KA1 them since there were no problems whatsoever. I decided to put the JID and I noticed that the pictures were very blurry. So I decide to go through official KA1 JH3 JI1 full and lite and then I put the KA1 Kies.
Everything ok, phone ready. Retry the camera and know the kind of fault of blurry photos. I go through the secret menu to control the camera's firmware in the phone and see that there is a new version of firmware is installed but the old one. To update the firmware of the camera and everything goes well. I open the camera and this time the photos are good but appeared two other problems:
- When I select "macro" in the right toolbar, the focus does not change and I have to do it manually focus the camera key. I can also do macros, but I have to do to focus myself with the key. Before hand, had a sort of "pre-fire" just select the macro function.
- If I flash pictures during the focus light is as strong as ever, but it has just shot a light intensity as low as if at the time of the shooting received little voltage to light.
Afflicted with these two problems by Multiloader try again in vain to call JID. Did not change anything and so I went KA1 Journal. I tried to follow the recovery process with the camera driver that is driving in relief (fix error camera) but just gave me the opening "camera error" and therefore ripristinai backups of my driver.
I do not know what to do, give me a hand. I know they are problems to be nothing, but after spending 300 euro stayed there this lily if I can not fix probably sell it.

If you want to know what is fixed and what is not just check the updates for Mi A1 and Mi A2 standard. They already received the update and they said the following:
Pros:
Screen rotation bug was fixed
A new radio version is installed/Better Reception
Touchscreen sensitivity issues fixed
Performance boost
Faster camera focus
Cons:
Because faster camera, now the camera makes a louder ticking noise when resetted
Auto brightness bug is still there
That's about it. We should receive this update sometimes this week.
Does anybody know did Xiaomi will bring back DT2W?

Thanks Dear For The Comprehensive Prompt Response.
I want a DT2W toggle. This phone I butt dial A LOT with for some reason.
Got security update today in USA. 65.2MB size, seems small.
Got it also today, in Sweden. Nice that the rotation bug is fixed
I can't use dt2w after the update. I was looking forward to it being enabled again after the update as some sites said. Can anyone that received the update confirm or deny? Is there an option for dt2w that I can't find?
Update is now available on the phone. The OTA is about 65mb. A little bit small if you ask me, but installing right now and will edit the post after I test it a little.
Received In Pakistan
Downloading Now Its Only 65.2 MB.
After Update Will Let You Know That What's New...
I Can Confirm That Screen Rotation Bug Has Been Fixed Now After August Update

Ok while writing this I'm testing various functions of the phone and here's what I get:
-The rotation bug is now fixed, animations work fine and smooth.
-Screen sensitivity is now extremely high, even keeping my hand near the bottom of the screen triggers back button (I have a thick glass protector on, and I didn't experience faulty sensitivity in July update)
-At a glance option in stock launcher is still there and cannot be used. No toggles, no nothing.
-Launcher animations and responsiveness is great now, switching between recent apps and drawer is quick and fluid (just give it 5 mins after the update) and animations are now smooth and not stuttering at all.
-Switching between applications and opening new apps on top of already opened apps seems faster and animations are more fluid.
-Let's say signal reception is a little bit better, until now I was getting only 2-3 bars of LTE in my home, after the update there seems to be 4-5 bars of LTE
-The camera noise that the Mi A2 users were complaining last week is not present on Mi A2 Lite. Switched between all modes and from front to back and there is a little tick made by the AF mechanism when it resets the focus, but you have to keep the phone about 2-3cm from your ear in a quiet environment.
-Front camera works ok, doesn't overexpose like some users were complaining.
-Sensors seems to be working just fine. Rotation works smooth, almost instant. Light sensor works ok. Gyro seems to work just fine, tested in VR games.
-Sound quality seems good enough and it seems more full, and loud on speaker, no more clippings (before the speaker was clipping sometimes - same setup as before, I'm using Noozxoide as DAC and Sony Music as player).
-Seems like the phone is not overheat so much when under heavy use (36C after heavy use now, 42C on july update)
-Experienced minimal GUI stutters (just a few frame drops while switching apps in animations, not really bothering while day to day use, but worth mentioning) with a lot of apps running in the background, unlink hangs like the past 2 updates.
-Fingerprint sensor takes aprox half a second to a full screen wake, and about 250ms to lit up the backlight.
-Wi-fi conectivity seems ok, speed is ok, downloaded 2 office suite updates flawlessly and fast.
-Bluetooth seems ok, connected to my BMW ConnectedDrive system via BT and the car is outside my house, about 20m from the phone location.
-IR works fine, no problems there.
-Headphones works as expected, loud, extremely vivid sound and punchy bass (check sound setup above) and both L and R channels have the same sound amplitude. Tested with 3.5mm Apple EarPods.
-From the time of update (100%) the phone is now 93% which is great (50 minutes of high usage and continuous testing)! And by the time I am writing this the phone never went over 36C in a 26C environment.
-Still no DT2W (yet my phone never had dt2w)
-Everything else seems untouched no new settings and couldn't find the test version of 2fa that Mi A2 users were talking about
So that's that. I am very happy with this update, everything seems to be so smooth and fast. I love this phone again!!!
Now some technical info:

I can confirm that the August update don't bring back DT2W!
There is no option for dt2w in the settings app either, so most likely Xioami is getting rid of this future.
Anyone knows if the missing Bluetooth codecs were added in this update? I'm not holding my breath, since the size seems too little to include them.

I don't know what bluetooth codecs but the only time I use bt streaming is in my car. And my car supports aptX, AAC and SBC and works just fine, and the quality is absolutely great. I can't see any difference between MP3's from the car's hard disk or bluetooth audio.
I have only one problem with bluetooth. I can't get to connect my iQOS device to this phone. I download the required app and then in the setup page it gives me a toast message about a PIN code being invalid. I got this error since I got the phone. On my old Sony I could connect it without a problem. I can't find a solution... Every other BT device work just flawlessly, except the god damn iQOS.

It's probably defaulting to SBC, the lowest quality BT codec available.

Hello,
I am relatively new in the Samsung world. Currently, I own a S20U 5G phone, with latest Android (G988BXXU6DUB5)
I have several questions, just put them in a list not to create a lot of threads. I would be really grateful if you could share advice/your experience.
I've noticed some clicking sound when I exit my Camera app and also when I open Settings for this app inside of it. Is it ok? I bet it is somehow related to the lens.
I've also read some articles regarding the autofocus issues. Are those solved? For me it seems to work decently fine, but I am not sure what are the best settings, should I keep tracking autofocus turned of or on.
Also, I've noticed that if I do some AF test with bringing hand relatively close (20cm), and on the background there are some objects contrasting with the background, some grey squares are popping around them and focus seems to be jumping to them randomly. Did anyone notice the same thing? What are those grey squares?
The battery. My SoT is around 4.5-6hrs, on LTE mostly with some calls, a lot of FB and messenger. I've noticed that the battery likes to drop quickly from 100%. Like if after I start using it on 100%, it could drop to 97% during 10-15 minutes of active usage. Then it is going slower, in a normal pace. Is you experience similar?
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.
Sorry if questions seem newbie ones, I just need some advice.
1. Yes it's just the camera sensors locking AF
2. AF was vastly improved with updates, there seems to be no issue with it now
3. Grey squares are usually the camera AI trying to find faces to focus on, so anything that might look a bit like a face to the AI it will try locking onto
4. Normal for Samsung devices to lose a few % very quickly, and your SOT time is fine

Hello, thanks for your answers, it is much clearer now.
I've noticed an odd thing about this specific feature, for example, if my child is moving, it tries to lock onto face with a grey square and if I start shooting, often I get a message "this photo might be blurred" or similar, and it is indeed blurred. Maybe you know how to combat this, if possible? Maybe some specific camera settings?

For moving subjects it's best to use Pro camera mode (Tap the "More" button under the view finder > Pro Mode
Set the shutter speed low as possible while still allowing enough light in, you can raise the ISO to get more light without increasing shutter speed (At the expense of noise depending how high you set it), that way you get a lot less blurring on the moving subject, in this case your child
The blurring occurs if the subject moves while the shutter is open collecting light, so the less time it is open, the less distance the subject will have moved, thus less blur
Works best in good light such as sunlight, then you don't need ISO too high and can drop shutter time right down while still getting good exposure
There is also a setting for Auto camera mode in the camera's main settings called "Tracking Auto-focus" which once you tap the screen to focus on a subject, regardless of where it moves to, it should remain in focus
The software in 6 pro is buggy as hell, Now I'm getting random refresh rate drop in everything, Gmail, Play store google now all apps, Just whenever it feels like it.
Nothings changed app wise but now randomly when I wake the phone or just scrolling around it's stuttering like it's at 30hz not 60hz, Even with forced 120hz in dev settings it still does it makes 0 difference.
And do not disturb mode wow do not disturb means do not disturb not waking my screen at every notification while I'm asleep, I've tried custom options here as well nothing works there either, It's either no notifications at all on lock screen or status and no screen wake or everything together.
Honestly this is the worst phone I've had for bugs, I'm on November so they have already done 1 update.

If defo does not run at 120 all the time even forced, something's making it drop, I made a post like yours before, lots of others having the same issue. I'm not sure on what to do, I don't really want to have to run custom ROMs tbh, yeah if Jan's update doesn't fix it then I can't possibly stay with this device

To be clear, it's likely not Android 12 itself that seems like it's still in beta, it's Android 12 on the Tensor CPU. After all, no previous Pixel phones running Android 12 beta would be able to test how it ran on Tensor.
I will say that Google should've done more internal testing of Android 12 on Tensor before the release of the P6P, since they couldn't possibly receive feedback from the public about it.

Try it before your window. Unlock the bootloader, flash stock ProtonAOSP 12.2 and play around. Safetynet passes right out of the box and everything save one or 2 things work. Plus tweaks. Then if you don't like it Android Flash Tool back to stock and send 'er home. Stock Android 12 on this device is simply awful all the way around.
Easily the worst performance on a 120hz phone I've used this year. Google for whatever reason seem to be really struggling getting this thing to work as it should. I really don't want to root because I just haven't got the time anymore to be doing all that stuff and I really shouldn't have to but in its current state the phone is so disappointing.

I'm on Dec update and the jitter and smoothness has improved but it's still not like other flagships around today. I'm praying the Jan update fixes a lot of it.
After a while of using proton it still has a little bit of jitterness about it, not sure what's causing it

Yeah I agree it could be Android 12 itself but then Google should have tested more and not releasing just for the sake of it, I mean look at OP they had to pull the 12 update, I am getting constant refresh rate drops now when I unlock my phone and start scrolling in apps even after restarting the phone it is ok until I lock the screen and then unlock and bang 30hz it looks like, Terrible just terrible.

I may do cheers but as one other posted it is still jittering in proton but I am not sure whether that is the same refresh rate drop, I cannot believe this wasn't picked up in testing it is basically rendering my phone useless at scrolling because of the massive refresh drop at the min, I wouldn't mind it was all good for a couple of days and I haven't changed anything just started doing it on it's own as many others have reported.
Simple they released the phone with rushed out Android 12

It is definitely curious why so many folks are having so many problems and then there are those like me who don't have any issues. Maybe it was a quality control issue where not all components were closely enough alike.
Internal testing lmao. No way Google did. They had to of had prototypes of these phones, no? Preorder day was a disaster and next year it will be exactly the same. It's been a trainwreck from the start for many of us but not all with this phone. Imagine the average user, not an xda user, who have so many issues. Think they'll buy another Google phone? Nope
Those having refresh rate problems better make sure it's not a installed app. I used an app called Kinscreen and it forced 60hz. I read others here saying they had the same issue with other apps.
It's definitely not component parts because I just flashed the updated November update from Google web installer and it's smooth again, btw the November firmware has all the December fixes as I haven't come across any of the old November bugs, some little we jitters here and there but no where near as bad as I had on the December build, revert back to November and then wait on Jan build

I don't think that's conclusive that it isn't (or is) component parts. All it confirms is we don't know what the root cause of the difference in experience is. I never had any problems on October, November, or my current December update.
I've had random drops in frames when scrolling web pages on chrome and other areas of the phone, and you can easily see how it'll jitter a bit. Idk what causes it but I don't think I've seen it recently.
One bug that drives me nuts, is if I go into the messages app and open a conversation, the keyboard will not be on screen but the app thinks it is, so I'll have this giant open space where the keyboard is supposed to be. I have to swipe right to "lower the keyboard" then tap inside the text box to bring it up again.
I'll be installing proton tonight and see if I notice a difference with anything, as I'm always thankful for custom roms that do a better job than stock.
