Downgrading from Pie to Oreo - Moto Z2 Force Questions & Answers

Hi everyone!
I've updated my z2 force to pie, and i wish I hadn't. Is it possible to downgrade back to Oreo and how? If possible, i wouldn't want to loose my gpay/banking apps, so i presume I'd have to relock the bootloader after downgrading. Sorry, newb here.
Thanks.

Based on all of the things that have happened over the last couple of weeks with several users in this forum, it appears that there is no going back to Oreo from Pie. Once you have installed a Pie modem, so far, no one had come up with a way to get an Oreo modem back in the device and get one working. There may be hope in the future but it hasnt been worked out yet.

Hot tip, If you lock you bootloader after flashing Oreo and can no longer enable OEM Unlock as you cannot access internet... use Bluetooth Tether to other phone to access internet, then OEM Unlock is available again.

Just need a bit of help getting going

So Ive searched around and I just can't find a definitive answer so here is what I got.
I understand that this here; is how you use marshmallow with the new bootloader unlock and root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...t/howto-bootloader-unlock-upgrade-to-t3398144
I also know that I have to do this exploit first to unlock the bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/note-4-verizon-bootloader-unlock-t3358913
My issue is I ended up getting forced OTA 2 weeks ago. So my current question is, Do I have to roll back to lollipop? Is root/unlock even possible for me? If so, How do I do that since I haven't rolled back before. Its been a while since I've been into rooting/roms. Is there a link to doing it for marshmallow to lollipop? Also what about the firmware?
Current Stats:
Model: SM-N910V
Baseband: N910VVRU2CPD1
Android Version: 6.0.1
Build: MMB29M.N910VVRU2CPD1
Kernel Version: 3.10.40
I just need an answer since Ive been reading threads the last 2 hours. Its confusing since the titles of most are how to unlock bootloader THEN goto marshmallow. Thanks Guys!
I think I solved it myself. Looking like I'm effed with this bootloader. Since I don't think its rootable or unlockable.

You can try to roll back to 5.1.1 by flashing the full firmware (thanks, hsbadr!) using ODIN. You can unlock the bootloader on this version.
The question is, will your phone let you. In another thread, the success rate appears to be something less than 100%. I don't know what the harm would be... if you can't do it, ODIN will likely fail. At any rate, the attempt is on you. I can't be responsible for what happens.

Just frustrated right now trying to get Wifi to work. It looks like its suggested to try Flashing MM Stock, Reroot and Re-unlock bootloader here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...t/howto-bootloader-unlock-upgrade-to-t3398144
Then use TWRP after all that.

Just make sure you're paying attention to what you're flashing. There are only three roms in the verizon development section that are able to utilize the 6.01 bootloader and modem. JASMINE ROM, PAULPIZZ 6.01 Beta and Cm13. The other roms are ports based on 5.1.1 so you may need to stay on the previous setup until more roms are updated
Tip the OP usually states what works/does not work and updates when things are fixed . The information changes quickly so sometimes you may need to read the thread from the end back to the beginning to see if your issues have been addressed
It was actually super simple once I found the thread on how to go back to 5.1.1 then how to take that and go unlocked w/ marshmallow chain. Last thing to figure out is disabling OTA on Jasmin ROM

Help regarding unrooting, restoring and accepting 7.1.1 OTA.

Hi. Im new here so please help me.
I have a Moto Z Play XT1635-02 on 7.0 with the 1st May Patch installed.
I unlocked the bootloader to root this device.
I rooted with this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/how-to/correct-rooting-moto-z-play-feb-17-t3560268
Now i want to go back to stock firmware to accept the OTA i just recieved for 7.1.1.
My main query is that, i have RETGB device and its on build number NPN25.137-24.3
I can't find any firmware for RETGB software channel.
I did find the OTA for this, which i have downloaded through the moto ota link generator tool by erfanoabdi.
Now, can any one guide me on how to restore stock without messing up my device?
I have downloaded two retail firmwares:
1)XT1635-02_ADDISON_7.0_NPNS25.137-24-1-9_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml
2)XT1635-02_ADDISON_7.0_NPNS25.137-24-1-4_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml
Is it safe to flash any of these on my May patched device or should i somehow find the may patched firmware?
Waiting for your kind replies! :')

Just flash the below link and you will be on 7.1.1, and yes it is that simple.

Thank you!
I should flash this through TWRP?
Also after flashing this, the future OTA updates(If any) will be installed without any problems on my retgb channel?

Yes on TWRP no on future updates.. being there is not official release for you. Plus the next major update if it happens would not be till O is released which we would not see till way after the new year.
Once you unlock bootloader and root, no going back...

Thanks brother.
I don't seem to get why the RETGB firmware isn't released.
I literally can't find anyone except i guess two or just 3 people who have the same software channel.
Thanks again!
On the Verizon blackberry priv, there was a way to install the ROM with no Verizon bloatware, no rooting or anything.
Same with my T-Mobile s7 edge, is there something for the Verizon moto z play?

I don't think that its possible with the Verizon MZP.
There's no access for anyone to unlock its bootloader as of yet.
So there's no development for it either.
But who knows? Don't lose the hope! :'D

Thanks, just wondering because the blackberry priv bootloader was also never unlocked or ever rooted

Want to downgrade from Android Oreo to Nougat

After having upgraded from Nougat 7.1.1 to Oreo using the OTA update I'm not feeling the love for it and it breaks a few thing I need to work.
Can anybody point me in the direction of a guide that works to perform the downgrade ? I'm really attached to my Moto Z Play and I don't want to brick it .
Is your bootloader unlocked?

No it isn't but I don't see any challenge in unlocking it. Having said that I'm starting to come around to liking Oreo on the Moto.

I'm glad to hear that. If you still want to go back to Nougat you'd need to unlock your bootloader, flash TWRP and then flash this zip (after a factory reset) from shamu17:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=889964283620776181
And that's it. If you want to go back to Oreo, you'll need to flash shamu17's Oreo rom.
The only thing I'm noticing since going to Oreo on my Z Play is apps will download to 100% from the Play store but wont install unless I swipe away app from recent apps. Already cleared cache and all that but still goes back to not installing apps. Annoying.
I'd suggest just installing official LineageOS 14.1
Chase down @SupahCookie and guide.

Don't feel bad. After I got the Oreo update, all my weather and clock widgets stopped working. They are either frozen in time, or completely invisible on my home screen. My phone ran smooth as silk on Nougat, so I'm less than happy with this new operating system.
use the "alternative"

Can I get Oreo Ota with my moto rooted?

Hi. I own a moto g5 xt1670, stock nougat with some security patch I believe. I'd like to stay on nougat for a while, so I guess I must root, then freeze the updater app because it's turning pretty annoying. The question is...can I install Oreo Ota with the device rooted in case I want in the future?
I'm not planning to install roms, so I prefer to stay on locked BL.
Many thanks.
no

Well to start with you need to unlock your bootloader if you want to root your device
And otas can only be installed on a totally unmodified device so you would need to flash stock firmware via fastboot (and lock the bootloader to make sure the images are totally unmodified) before any ota is attempted to installed
Thanks both of you for the reply!
So, let's say I'm not interested in Oreo Ota, how can I stop the upgrade spam notification? I guess I must unlock BL, then root, then freeze the updater app. Is that correct? In case I want Oreo in the future I guess I can install some rom...
Does this make sense? I've read bad reviews about oreo and battery drain. This is my mother's phone. I don't want any possible problem. Nougat is just fine, and works well.
Thanks a lot. I'll be waiting for your reply.

Force stopping system update app (you need to show system apps in app list) will temporarily remove the notification until restart or the app starts again
And as far as I'm aware there's nothing wrong with oreo - Always makes me laugh when people say they have read something but provide no source or context

How to get OTA updates back?

After downgrading from the 10 leaked beta to Pie by changing slots and factory resetting, I can't OTA update. I have a locked bootloader and model TA-1050. Do I need to "wipe" the other partition that 10 is installed on so that it can be used for upgrades?
Thanks in advance.
Yeah, i had the same problem after trying out some custom roms and after switching to the stock slot, i couldn't OTA anymore. The only way to fix it is to reflash the stock firmware and start updating again.. which, yes, requires a unlocked bootloader. I really recommend everyone to unlock it. I can't give you any links to the service unfortunately but all i can say is that's really easy and you don't have to anything except to accept the unlock on your phone.

How can I reflash the stock firmware? Would it be enough to update through recovery to the leaked 10 build?
