So, the OP7 pro sucks a**. I am done with crap hardware just to have an open phone.
With that said, if @ChazzMatt wants to catch me up on the latest... That would be great.
If anyone wants to know how bad the OP7 pro sucks .. just ask. Luckily they are going for around 800 on eBay for the 12/256 model that I bought.
Just typing this on my US998 V30+ is soooo much nicer. Having the "all screen" on the OP7 pro is just an illusion.

Nice to have you back. Someone mentioned you a couple of days back and I was wondering if you'd ever come back. As soon I saw the title I hoped it'd be you. Nice to see you are here
But I am curious why OnePlus 7 pro sucks, I was considering my next phone as OnePlus phone as LG seems to be allowing unlocking only on EU variant devices(and you leaving made unlocking on other regions less likely ) and their updates are slow as ever.
So far h930eu got pie update and it was pulled back but reason was not given. It had issues like notification overlap and poor Ram management. We have rctd and disable verify working for pie.
Australian and some other 930ds as well as Korean v30 also got the update. Those weren't pulled back afaik.
Lineage OS 16 with pie blobs is work in progress. There's some RIL issue on it where sim sometimes works and sometimes doesn't but otherwise it seems a big improvement :fingers-crossed:
Edit: We also have Ceres kernel now for some time and it's amazing
Glad to have you back.
Edit 2: With pie coming A few of people bricked their phone with 9008
Good job inform him
Also I wonder what's wrong with OP7?

Nice! Would you consider the V50?
Welcome back I remember how you said goodbye to us before changing to OP7 Pro Honestly I didn't expect such a quick return but this only proves that the V30 is a great and underrated phone. In a free moment describe your problems with OP7 Pro. This will be great advice for others
I used a Pixel 3 XL for 2 weeks. I went insane. It's heavy, ugly, even darker screen than V30, half the battery life and the sound quality was abysmal. Oh and no wide angle camera was driving me insane. Also the GPS in other phones is horrible. You have to shout at Google Assistant for it to hear you lol! It's shocking how much LG nailed the hardware to this day. I returned the Pixel. It made me realize how great my V30 is and that I can go with it for at least two more years.

Well...I tried the same with Oneplus 6T...
Brought around 4 months ago.... Used it for a week... And Sold it within the same week...
Camera was pathetic....Inface totally artificial and overprocessed.
Though Oxygen OS was amazing, I would go with better cameras anytime.
Was happy after I was back to V30.
I have used a S10+ for work and daily for a week. I couldnt stand it after that. The ultra sonic reader was absolutely horrible. Beyond me why any manufacturer doesnt have both rear and display FPR. The ultra sonic is not even a good verision of the display FPR in the first place....
Software, Idk if its because Pie is truly trash or Samsung is utterly incapable of optimizing their OS and making any feature at all work just as good as other flagships or even the old V30 i.e proximity sensor/AoD, wide angle, portrait/night mode (V30 Gcam/night sight), manual focus etc. The battery life was a joke, although performance was good the phone was no where near smooth like an iphone.
In terms of design, it was a big phone, in a light compact form factor with one of the best displays. Basically similar feel to a V30. For S10+ price range and samsung being the industry lead, you would think we would see an innovative implementation of the infinity O display. But nope, no front wide angle, no ToF/infared/depth sensor, no shoulder buttons, nothing worth changing usage at all. If we look at the note 10, no new front optics/iris, right hand power button, headphone jack, SD card expansion, and rear sensor all gone. Its sad LG is losing against these imbeciles.
Anyway my ending point, it will be a tricky one upgrading from the V30 i think. OP 7 pro imo, is good but the phone is gigantic and heavy. No rear sensor, jack or SD slot. The V50 has it all but its $1k and is bootloader locked.....

@tech_infinity just about covered it all.
We have newer:
Dev Patched LGUP (by @tecknight),
rctd (by @JohnFawkes) and
disable verify (by @Zackptg5)
files which are compatible with Pie, as well as backwards compatible with Oreo. I've put the newer LGUP in relevant threads like Frankenstein, WTF Instructions and EU H930 Pie KDZ (for several people who want to DOWNGRADE from buggy Pie back to stable Oreo).
I had to re-write the Section 6 (TWRP stuff) of the WTF instructions slightly for the different order for the newer disable encryption and disable root checker files. Basically you have to flash Magisk twice. You can read a copy here, which is a standalone post in the EU H930 Pie KDZ thread.
Stable TWRP 3.2.3.7 is still recommended by our TWRP dev -- yes, even on Pie.
I have new Pie KDZ threads locked and loaded for North American variants, whenever they are released. That link is for US998, but I have all the others ready too.
______
On the non-dev side, we still have people who refuse to read. This guy posted IN the WTF thread he couldn't find the instructions even though the first post of the WTF thread is a HUGE hyperlink to go to the Instructions... Several people set him straight.
Couple days later, another guy claimed the WTF Instructions were a complete mess ("rabbit holes") and said the Frankenstein Instructions not only didn't have KDZ download links, that there was "no mention" anywhere in the thread where to download needed KDZ. I called him a liar to his face and posted screenshot of Frankenstein Instructions showing KDZ download links.
He basically wanted a dedicated thread for US998 -- instead of instructions where you follow what's right for your variant. (And he didn't even need Frankenstein, as he was already on US998 with fastboot flash commands.) He also didn't quite comprehend he needed to downgrade to pre-July 2018 Oreo, even though that's said several times throughout the WTF instructions -- especially at the beginning, and also listed first in the Troubleshooting Tips. That's the WHOLE POINT of WTF bootloader unlock exploit! Plus, I had reiterated that prerequisite at least TWICE in my replies to him.
Then, a few hours later he bricked his phone trying to flash T-mobile H932 firmware onto his US998. I asked him why he did that, and posted screenshots from both WTF and Frankenstein threads showing bolded red letter warnings T-mobile H932 has different RSA encryption. He said he thought warning was only one way, not the other.
I'm not picking on the 2nd guy specifically (I'm sorry he bricked his phone) -- but both are examples of people rushing to do something and not reading. Skimming so fast they miss very important information. (How can you miss the post #1 link to the WTF instructions?)
________
Anyway, WELCOME BACK!
And yes, LG nailed the hardware for the LG V30. It really was the best phone of all 2017, and with the early Oreo WTF bootloader unlock exploit it's PURE GOLD. (I still suspect someone in LG did that on purpose. So thank you to them also!)

Yeah. But those who want to buy a phone soon and definitely want to be able to root and install custom ROMs, they can't really take that gamble.
Also LG seems be messing up a lot. India (world's 2nd largest smartphone market), they launched neither the V50 nor the G8. Even V40 costs about 600$ right now.
I was almost about to post that the important message of this thread is that Brian IS BACK, not the inferiorities of various other phones. But I see now that ChazzMatt got us back on track.
Anyways welcome back, buddy. In sorry the OP7 didn't work for you, but you've been missed! We've held the fort in your absence, with Chazz and the Devs doing the heavy lifting as usual.
H932 lafsploit is still going strong. As always a few people have problems or "misread" ( ) the instructions, and we try to get them back on track the best we can. But sometimes we just don't know the exact answer and missed your insight.
As you've seen, Pie is finally on its way, hit the Korean V300 and the European H930. LG pulled it temporarily and are now in the process of re-releasing it.
My current obsession is the fact that all Pie KDZs we've seen so far are still ARB0, which means V30 is still rootable, since we can still roll back, either for WTF or for lafsploit. We have yet to see US releases, but fingers crossed that the barn door stays open
Once again welcome back. The offer to meet and help with Windows on your PCs stands, as I'm only 10mins away.

Different preferences for different folks. Personally, i dislike the Pixel (at least compared to the v30). I'm probably biased, but where I'm from Pixels are expensive. Moreso than LG phones after a few months (their price drops insanely fast, at least in my opinion).
Also, i was never an audiophile (I'm not one even after the v30), but i have to say my tase in audio has shifted significantly after this getting this phone (and some chifi equipment). I'm going with v30 on this, but I'm sure many people would disagree.

Yeah. If someone told me they'd give me their pixel 3xl in exchange for my v30+150$ I'd probably do it.
Seems like pixel 3xl didn't match up with what he personally wanted
Though pixel devices have been notorious for having some or the other issue soon after soon.

I can't be the only one thinking about it with the lineup in 2015. The S6 Edge is sexy as hell but there isn't enough bang for the buck. HTC M9 is not even a contender this year (honestly HTC, you need to step it up). LG G4 sounds promising so far, although if LG somehow manages to screw something up in the specs/software, it's a long wait til the Note 5 and I'm not a huge fan of Touchwiz. I want to upgrade but my G3 is still pretty solid and I don't want to jump down below 5.5(ish) so I'm in limbo.
Anyone else thinking of upgrading? If so, which phone is tempting you?
No thinking about it, I will be getting the normal galaxy s6 next month. In my opinion you cant beat samsungs amoled screen and the exynos processor sounds amazing. Plus I like the idea of a fingerprint scanner over knock code now that it is touch not drag. I can live without removables, never needed to replace a battery and with 64 or more internal I wont need a sd. The G3 is a good phone but it already bores me, first phone I can say that about within the first year. I'll probably get some hate about this but my iphone 3g kept me happy longer. Sure that was my first smart phone back in 2008 but still... It was boring ios.

I agree on the G3 boring me part. My HTC DNA kept me interested longer than this phone did, for whatever reason. I was seriously considering jumping to the S6 or S6 Edge but I went to go check them out at Best Buy and neither of them amazed me. Sure their build quality is better than previous generations but nothing "wow"ed me and from what I hear, the battery life leaves much to be desired. Why Samsung went with 2500mAh, I have no idea. I can definitely live without removables too but not with a battery that small.
As much as i want to upgrade to the s6 edge i think i will hold off and see what LG has to offer. I like the G3 and have grown to like the buttons on the back of the phone as well as the knock to wake and sleep. Plus the g3 is the perfect size for me and the s6 is a tad smaller so ill wait for now.

The poor battery is from wake locks, the exynos processor Is 30% more efficient than the snapdragon 810 and the amoled screen takes much less power so after the wake lock issues are taken care of it should last just as long or longer than other flagships coming out.

The rumor mill is saying the g4 will be bigger. Personally the g3 is as big as I want to go with phones.
All in all we all have different tastes and the s6 is the flavor I'm digging right now. I guess we will see if I still think it looks tasty in a month.
Absolutely no Samsh_t for me whatsoever.
No root on Z3 stopped me from buying.
I may consider M9, but I'd like to see what G4 will be first.
Camera is a big thing for me and after having the Nexus 5, HTC M8, and a Samsung S5.... I am sticking with the G3 for a while longer. Lots of people talk about how great the Samsung S5 camera is, but I did a side by side comparison and everyone said the G3 pictures were the best. For the S6, I guess we'll see how that camera turns out. Plus, it's going to be hard to root.
Samsung is ****ing bloated all to hell and back. G4 looks like it could be much better than the s6.

You regret switching from the M8 to the G3? What do you like better on the M8?
And I agree with @dakpluto that the G4 sounds like it could be just as good, if not better, than the S6/S6E. Over-hyped phones in my opinion.

Honestly, my M8 was less laggy and just overall performed better. I know it's backwards, but in my experience, it was true. That and there's WAY more development for the HTC flagship phones on XDA than the G3.

I definitely agree on the development part. For whatever reason, LG G3 D851 had steady development but never exploded like my previous phones and seems to have dwindled now.
Thankful for what we got though!
Still loving my G3 on CM12.. Running great for me. As far as the S6 & M9 are concerned neither are worth the money (to me) to upgrade, and I even have an available upgrade. Ha. I bought my mint G3 non-contract with clean IMEI from a buddy for $275. He said it was too big of a device for him. I can't really justify an upgrade right now with the current offerings. S6 has Touchwiz (pardon me while I puke), antiquated home button & capacitive keys, no micro SD, and anemic battery. The M9 just didn't do it this year, and there's no word on a GPe version yet anyway. Safe to say I'll stick with my "Nexus 5.5" for now..

I'm actually grateful that it hasn't. Summer is coming and like many of you, I've spent more time then I care to remember flashing 3 different ROM's a day. I'm glad I don't have that issue anymore honestly.
I have the G2, and think I might upgrade to the G3. The G4 is the only other phone that has my interest also but won't be sold to probably late May. Plus, the G4 will be already on Lollipop and doesn't have an older KK bootloader to flash twrp on and might be stuck. Unless bump gets updated to work on the new Lollipop bootloader. What you guys think?

I would put down money saying the g4 will be bootloader unlocked on T-Mobile just like this g3.
It's no question for me. The G4 will be mine by pre-order. I have owned 1 Samsung phone and have had 5 Lg's including the G2 and 3 so it's only right to get the 4. Plus all of my other electronics are Lg so they sync up seamlessly.

Here's what I mean. The G3 on Lollipop can get root now. This allowed us to to modify the aboot with the previous kitkat version where we could bump the boot.img and recovery.img. This is only necessary if you want to flash custom roms, etc...
When the G4 comes out, it will come with Lollipop out of the box. It will probably be able to get rooted also with the latest exploit we have for root on Lollipop. But to get a custom twrp put on it to flash custom roms probably won't happen and will stay locked down on any carrier untill a new bump is developed that will work with the Lollipop aboot.img. The G4 doesn't have a previous version of Kitkat to do the hack that we do both on the G3 and G2 to make bump work.
My hunch is rom development on the G4 will not be possible until an exploit is found. Not sure we can put a G3 KK base aboot.img on a G4. Probably make it a brick.
I'm about to upgrade my Verizon account, and I'm trying to decide between the LG G4 and HTC One M9. Right now, rooting and bootloader unlocking are possible on the M9. Difficult; but possible. However, the G4 still lacks carrier-specific forums on XDA. I know that the G4 was only released on Verizon at the beginning of this month, but I would have expected to see more movement on its development by now.
Is it reasonable to think that the G4 will ever have root or bootloader unlock on Verizon? The G3 has an all-in-one toolkit, but that took a whole year. Then again there are rumors on here that LG might open up bootloader unlocks for all variants.
I want to want this phone so bad, but it's dead in the water if I'll be stuck on stock firmware without root for 2 years. Is it still just too early to expect anything and the hacks will likely flow soon? Or are things really moving slow? I'm not asking for an ETA. I'm just wondering if there's reasonable hope for anything to happen.
I'm in the same boat as you, but on at&t. I am planning on buying the G4 tomorrow. I think root will be here before too long; jcase has rooted the at&t variant but hasn't released the method, presumably because it is unsafe. I figure the worst case scenario is I get the G4 and wait it out, if no root by fall, sell the phone and buy the new Nexus 5 or whatever they'll call it.

However, the G4 still lacks carrier-specific forums on XDA. I know that the G4 was only released on Verizon at the beginning of this month, but I would have expected to see more movement on its development by now.
Is it reasonable to think that the G4 will ever have root or bootloader unlock on Verizon? The G3 has an all-in-one toolkit, but that took 2 years.

G3 tool kit took 2 years? Wasn't the g3 released one year a go?

I'm in the same boat as you, but on at&t. I am planning on buying the G4 tomorrow. I think root will be here before too long; jcase has rooted the at&t variant but hasn't released the method, presumably because it is unsafe. I figure the worst case scenario is I get the G4 and wait it out, if no root by fall, sell the phone and buy the new Nexus 5 or whatever they'll call it.

I'd forgotten about jcase's news. I guess mostly I was just worried by the lack of carrier-specific forums. I've never seen it take this long for a flagship phone before.
I have 2 more weeks to make my choice. I may go your route.
We will get Root and Bootloader access, it is just a matter of time since the devs (or rather some of them) already have it and are working on making a safer method to do it.
As far as a direct unlock from LG, that is never going to happen. They have personally stated they have no plans to do the unlocker for any of the "older models" of the G4 (So no AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, US Cellular, etc.).
While I do understand your concerns as Root is very important to most of us and it seems like an eternity waiting for it, but trust me, this device can certainly hold its own just based on its own merits.......Yes Root will be nice and bring forth welcome modifications and removal of bloatware, but in the mean time the phone is still an incredible piece of technology and is also a great feel in the hand.
Overall I would say get yourself the G4, you will not be sorry.

I'm a pretty heavy root app (and custom recovery) user. I like making regular nandroid backups. I use Titanium Backup all the time for so many different functions. I love my root-enabled Tasker profiles and apps like VideoReg Pro with save-to-SD capability. Plus, a bootloader unlocked phone just means so many more ROMs and a much simpler process to try them out.
I agree it's an amazing phone (hardware), but the software side of things is even more important to me. Thus my dilemma.

I fully understand, trust me I am the same way. I got my G4's on 6/17 and this is the longest I have ever owned a smartphone without Bootloader & Root Access.......It really sucked for me at first (as I did not know it was still locked down when I got it and had I known that before hand I honestly would have gone for the Moto N6 instead) after a week or so with the G4 though I am super happy with my decision and now I just see Root as being the eventual icing on an already fantastic cake.

You and me both, buddy. I ended up with the US991 because I was dumb and did not check the root status before I bought the G4 (Don't get me wrong I love the phone and everything, just should have done my research is all)
We technically already have root. It's just a matter of being safely packaged and released. I give it another month or 2 before we see a long hand method on how to root our phones without bricking them.
In all honesty the G4 is far superior to the m9 in just about every way, aside from the forward facing speaker of the m9.

That’s debatable. I prefer the smaller screen and resolution myself. I'd rather not sacrifice CPU/GPU cycles and battery life for pixels I can't even see. I mean, the G4 has 4x the pixels of my 24" monitor. That's just stupid
Then there's the snapdragon 810 in the M9 that some say is horrible, and others say is amazing. And yes, the stereo speakers would be nice.
If the M9 had a removable battery and the G4's camera, I wouldn't even be here. The camera is really important to me though, and the M9's looks like a toy compared to the G4's.

Oh the G4 is deff display overkill. And I'd be with the m9 personally if the camera was on par with the G4 and s6, even without a removable battery.
I went with the G4 for the camera and sd card. I have kids and taking a million pics of them are more important than hearing my ring tone and music louder without a Bluetooth speaker.
I prefer a largerish phone after my s5 and the G4 didn't really feel much larger aside from width a little.
Plus I got a free battery and 32gb SD card, so there's that too.

Yeah, we have pretty much the same requirements. Those kids move so fast, an average phone camera just won't cut it anymore. I'm tired of blurry pictures
I've used every Samsung Galaxy flagship until now. Forget Samsung and their Apple-chasing, anti-user policies. I need an SD card dangit!
Some phones take longer to get root than others, but being how this is LG's flagship, and LG has a growing followship, there will be root very soon. Just be patient! This phone kicks butt. I typically root to get easy tethering, ad removal, and bloatware removal, but this phone is damn good out of the box WITHOUT root! get it and don't look back! you won't regret it.
I see that there are new carrier-specific groups. Pretty sweet! Root and bootloader unlocks are just around the corner.
How is everyone liking their VZW G4? Which device did you come from?
My previous device was the G2 and i loved it! The G4 is a great upgrade.
Don't forget to go put your name down to donate to the root and bootloader bounty! We owe a lot to these devs! :highfive:
*EDIT* - People keep asking about root and bootloader - The devs have found multiple ways to root and plan on releasing the first root method soon. They also say they are on track for a global bootloader unlock method. Stay patient and you'll have your root! Enjoy!

I came from the S6 and am liking the G4 very much. It wasn't much of a upgrade but the camera and manual mode really drew me to the G4 along with the removable battery and extSD. They are both great devices but in the end for something different I went with the G4.
EDIT: Great idea on the new thread structure, I was just thinking if they were going to do this.
EDIT 2: Back to the S6 for me... the G4 is too buggy for me. The one i just had had to be returned because of camera problems. It's a shame because I was really liking it until I took some outdoor photos.
Do you guys know how to take pictures in manual mode with raw format? How many other features are missing from our phones that the other carriers left alone?
Came from the G3, which I passed along to my father. I've been flashing it for him to feed my habit, but things are starting to look up for the G4 now.
Came from the S5 which I came from the S4..glad to be done with Sammy

Give me root or give me death! Coming from an HTC m8, Galaxy Nexus, Droid X.
I came from the S4 was pretty happy with that phone (actually I'm still happy with that phone) but the G4 just looked like a great upgrade. Can't beat the SD card slot and removable battery.
I had the GS4 before this, and Sam lost me with what they ditched in the GS6 design. The LG G4 has made me a very happy customer, and I marvel at its performance. Even better, I get an extra sd card and battery through that promotion!
I'm still rocking a G3 until the G4 gains root access.
The G3 has been the most boring phone I've had. I really enjoy flashing roms, but life is just too busy now. Which is why the G3 (and I assume the G4 will be as well) is so great. This phone with root and TweaksBox is perfect. I just froze a few things, added a few features and changed the colors and I have a stable device that has everything I want and need.
Came from G2. Missed having a removable battery and SD card. Love the camera, wish there was an option to change the resolution though. I didn't think I would like the curve as much as I do. A little put off by how much Verizon stripped the LG features too. All in all I'm just as happy as the day I got my G2. I was actually sold on the nexus 6, but I couldn't get over my love of the back buttons.

I had a G2, then a G3, and now a G4. In between these I had bought and returned a Droid Turbo, S6, One M8, and likely 1-2 more, but I always found myself coming back to LG.
I prefer the looks and ergonomics of the G3 the best out of all of them, it looked and felt much smaller than the G4, and looks more premium. The G4 has excellent performance and the best camera out of all of them though, so it makes up for it.
Umm hey guys, I have been trying my best to keep up with the root info on vzw g4, and last I heard, no luck and no bootloader unlock... Now, i dont want to jump the gun, BUT i have found a way to enable oem unlock. Is this something that has been accomplished yet? Or am I just all happy for nothing?
Everyone coming from the S4: I'm glad to see I'm not the only one ditching Samsung for their anti-user policies. I have owned every Galaxy phone 1-5. Not anymore. I've all but decided on the G4 for my upgrade next week. Excited about developments here!

Are you talking about the option in Developer options to Enable OEM Unlock? If so, that's old news. It doesn't mean you can unlock your bootloader. It's just one more hurdle before unlocking it.
Okay, just making g sure.. Back to rooting exploring.. Hey, but at least I should get some brownies for showing up right?? Where might one find a list of tried exploits or is there no such list?
I've been an android user since 2012, and this January something possessed me and I bought an iPhone 6 after having a really bad experience with the Droid Turbo. Then I realized what a monster I had become and I sold my iPhone and got the G4. Best decision I've made, and root is just going to make this great phone greater.

I took a greater look today and I found the option in the manual mode for raw format.
But I am starting to wonder if I have a defective phone. My battery life is horrible, I am only getting maybe two hours of on screen time and I dont use my phone most days. I have tried factory reset, not loading third party apps and the like but it still wont go above the 2 hour mark of on screen time.

Honestly it's a shame I was seriously looking at this phone, but what's more unfortunate is I'm starting to feel rooting is going the way of the dodo, more or less for big brands Samsung and LG for instance. HTC has always been pretty Dev friendly, it's just a shame I stuck with Android all this time because I had the freedom to root and do whatever I wanted and now it's just become a hollow shell of itself
I'd say odds are piratically zero unless you get an unlocked variant, even then it can take months for LG to release the code for unlock. I am looking elsewhere manufacture wise. I have a G3 and it is on its last legs.

For all of you that say HTC is so great, Let me tell you.. I was once a huge LG fan back in the G3 days and V10(Which went knowwhere) and then I said I would never touch another LG again, So I went HTC10,
was great at first, a bit pricey for the money, But to make a long story short. all HTC's battery suck.. your device will die within 1 year. but you will notice the issue way before, like 6 months to less..
when it happen to me, I thought maybe it was just me, then after me, other friends of mine, started having issues, and then friends of theirs had issues, and coming from a Developer on HTC10,
I can tell you, the scene sucks. the users can be rude, even know that is everywhere.. but cant explain unless your a dev, and even know you can s/off which will cost you 25.00, no biggie, lets you rebrand your device too... and unlock your bootloaders, but as for scene, Its not really there.. a few roms and a few things, but nothing big.. I created PureFusionOS originally on a HTC10, and I created Nebula Kernel Originally on a LG G3,
then Ported the first EAS Kernel to HTC10 on MM then N and not on Oreo......... So, dev friendly as it is, it has its draw backs.. I personally wont get another HTC do to the crappy batteries..
If none believe me, click on the Telegram group on my sig and ask in there.. you will see for your self.......
as for the oods of getting root, anything is possible.. look at the v30.. look at the g6 and v20 and so on, Most didnt think that would happen... its a challenge.. I wouldnt say you would get it soon,
but sooner or later.. if you truly want software and dont care about hardware, get OP6........................... But if you want a device that can outperform most others, Samsung,LG and Google.............
yeah sony too.. just not a fan of Sony.............

Sony phones are locked down tighter than a nuns vagina so I won't go that way again.
I had an htc M9 and the battery was TERRIBLE. 3 hours I was at 60pct of little use, and this was brand new. So the battery issue has to be better than it was then. But most of us buy our phones and never plan to keep then longer than a year Max and most of us also use the payments so the OP6 and others like it are not affordable, especially for my broke ass.
LG makes great phones, they really do, but I want absolute control over something I legally own (for the time being ) and I think everyone else feels the same way. I haven't given up on LG just yet but for time being, I'm using the Motorola z2 force soley cause it can be rooted easily...well I thought easily anyway. Google's seemless update confuses me with two.
That being said, my hopes are still up, hanging by a string for the next LG model, but this time I won't buy it until root is achieved/released..if ever.
Sigh.
I swore to never own another LG phone after the G4 fiasco, but here I am a few years later - literally about to pull the trigger.
I don't care about the notch or the AI features - I just wanted a good phone with: a headphone jack, bigger screen, and most of all - a wide angle lens. I had my heart set out on an ASUS Zenfone 5 for a while but the wide angle camera has apparently been somewhat disappointing.
I currently own a Pixel 2 XL and a Galaxy S8+ Exynos version, both have been a blast to have because of the ease of being able to flash a new ROM and what not. I know for a fact that having this new G7 means losing the ability to customise the phone, but I'm left with little options as my desires for a wide angle lens has become far too great. I could get a secondary lens for my DSLR but snapping pictures very quickly with a phone has become the norm. Oh well, I'm probably going to get the G7, I'm prepared for a locked bootloader

Verizon will never unlock the bootloaders on any phone they sell. Basically, if you want root, the general rule is to not buy Verizon phones 99pct of the time they are not unlockable

I think that law may have been to physically mod phones? I can't quite remember.
But yeah, Verizon = no bootloader unlock, ever. I am hoping T-Mobile's buy one get one free promo will get the phone in more user's hands. More users should lead to more desires for development. The last LG phone I had was the G4 and there was an odd way of getting root on the phone.. I really hope there will be devs to work on the G7. As always, I'm ready to donate money to get root and the ability to flash ROM's.. honestly, I just want AOSP icons on the statusbar  I hate ugly statusbar icons!

Considering how incredibly slow LG was to add the V30 unlock codes to the official site, and still no OFFICIAL support for the open market V30/V30+ US998 model, I have serious doubts the G7 will be added to the list, at all. If you have a European variant, I envy you. They DO have laws that require companies to allow for modification. The US has pathetic loopholes in right to repair which even Apple and Microsoft scoff at, let along a smaller company like LG. They simply don't care about the dev or modder community. They would much rather have you get a new phone every year because the former was crippled by poor software and lack of support.
I'm rocking a LG G3 vs985 and it is really in bad shape now that thermal issues have led to SD card failure. I might have to reflow the solder to get it working long enough to see if the G7 will get root, or if there are alternatives.

I am currently researching various sites such as XDA now being in the market for a new smartphone out of necessity. That necessity...... Echoing the quoted portion of your previous post...... Is " thanks " to the battery of my HTC 10. I write this with my HTC 10 tethered to a charger because not connected to power once the status bar battery icon shows 70 % it is a very short wait until it bootloops with the only course of action then being a vol. Down + power button combo press to get into download mode...... Select power off...... And connect the HTC 10 back to a power source ( at which point it displays that the 70 % screen on battery power remaining is actually around 8 %.
The HTC 10 battery does indeed suck. Researching now for a new smartphone is leading me to think there are only 2 options that tick the boxes of my wants...... Among those wants being latest hardware with a Good + camera, SD card slot for storage expansion, and ability to be rooted. It appears the 2 smartphones to come the closest to meeting those wants are the LG G7 and Samsung S9 ( and unfortunately it appears presently the want of root may not happen with either of those 2 smartphone options [ Snapdragon versions. ] )
I suppose I could deal with my always-needing-to-be-tethered HTC 10 a little while longer to enter the U12 in the purchase running ( that I presume will be rootable ) but I will be concerned of having another battery nightmare with a HTC smartphone......

I haven't rooted my phones for a few years now. I dont see the necessity for it anymore ( I respect the opinion of others who have their reasons for rooting.. i just have no justifiable reason for myself)
I still use xda a lot for reviews , q&a , discussions etc just not for development.
To me, phones have come a loooooong way from the days of the LG G2x etc where rooting was a MUST if you wanted a phone that could even last the entire day

I'm actually in the exact same boat as you - although my battery isn't quite as bad on the HTC 10 yet, it's definitely dying 2 or more times a day on me. It's a great phone and I wouldn't be itching for an upgrade if the battery was still good. I like the U12+ but after this(and previously my One M8) having both battery or charging port related issues, wireless charging on my next device is a must. Unfortunately like you said both the Snapdragon S9+ and the G7 are the only current real options and neither of them seem to be getting any traction in the root department. The s9+ is especially interesting to me because I would think the USA would have a HUGE market for people buying and modifying that phone but it seems as though that just isn't so.
Back to the G7 - this is the first time I've ever even considered an LG and this device looks freaking great, but I want to not only de-bloat and adblock, but also have the ability to run free WiFi tether on Sprint as well as the fun of changing out ROMs(although the older and busier I get the more tedious this becomes).
Eagerly watching from the sidelines on what happens with this phone though!

Not a good thing reading that you had battery related issues on a previous HTC smartphone as well as the 10...... As far as my thought of a U12 being in the running for my next soon-to-be purchase each new day I become increasingly frustrated with needing to be constantly tethered to a power source with my HTC 10. I also have a Google Nexus 10 tablet ( that I believe has HTC battery hardware ) which in the past few months has been major off-and-on issues that after online researching of others experiencing the same thing attribute likely to HTC battery hardware in the Google Nexus 10. Early reviews of the HTC U12 do seem promising...... But after the cost of a flagship phone I do not want to find myself having the same battery nightmare a little over a year from now as I am with this HTC 10.
It is a real shame as so long as I am tethered to a power source my HTC 10 still runs like a champ in every other aspect. Another shame is something you mentioned in root / mod activity on XDA seems to have really declined for most smartphone brands...... And that does not give me hope of there arriving root for either the Samsung S9 or LG G7. If I am destined for the LG G7 I am considering holding out for one of the 2 merchants listed on the LG website to get in stock a carrier unlocked version of it...... In hopes that could make it a little easier / likely for eventual bootloader unlock and root. If not I will just have to get use to it being my first Android smartphone that I did not have root on.
With that scenario in mind I have been researching on alternate methods to try and do as close to some of the basic things I have always utilized with root. One thing you mention is debloat. Searching with a phrasing similar to " remove bloat no root " did return a result from XDA that I likely will try And there do exist adblock, firewall, etc. apps that do not require root...... But my guess is they will not function as well as those with root. I have had a few Samsung, a couple Motorola, and this one HTC ( 10 ) branded smartphones...... A purchase of a G7 would be my first LG as well......

The prior HTC phone (One m8) didn't really have battery issues, but the charging port (microusb) failed on me. I believe this is going to be much less of an issue going forward with USB C connections so I wouldn't really say that's a major concern. I've had HTC phones all the way back to the EVO 4G, and generally did not have issues with battery or power related things. At this point we're going off topic though. Hopefully someone with the talent and ability finds a passion in figuring out root for the G7.

Allllthoooough...... If you and I continue conversing regardless of topic maybe we can bump the thread count up high enough to attract a talented and abled person to take a look here and ultimately detail a root strategy for the LG G7 ( can always hope. )
So on that thought...... How Is the weather where you are ?

Neither. LG V50.
@Inerent, when you cross post demos like this to other forums, you should explain the phone you're using. Same question was asked in the V30 forum when you posted this. Unless otherwise stated, users assume you are showing some capability of the phone the forum is about...
As for me, I'm happy with my LG V30+ and have no plans to upgrade to another phone until next year about this time IF LG puts out something in which I'm interested. I also don't want a 1st Gen 5G phone.
My phone is rooted (all V30 variants can be rooted, don't need LG permission), I have Magisk mods that give me G7/V40 camera. No notch, etc. I'm very satisfied with my V30+.
So no matter how awesome the V50 may be, I don't care.
However, others may be interested -- as long as you clearly identify your sales pitch. But G8 is 2019 phone, so probably not many are going change phones this soon. In fact, G8 owners probably specifically chose it over V50 (which came out about the same time), if I remember correctly.

Got it. Sorry.
do you think this will eventually be ported to the G8? i mean almost everything internally is the same V50 and G8.

Not quite the same. Also V series has better software. Telling you because I was coming from G7
