rom compatibility with a3? - Xiaomi Mi CC9e Questions & Answers

Just wondering, seeing how cc9e prices are so much lower than a3 out here, whether if the roms if ever available on the a3 would be compatible on the cc9e?
How was the compatibility between previous android one phones and their china counterparts, such as a2/6x?
are the hardwares identical, as well as bootloader unlock capability?
Thanks.

I use a mi a3 and would suggest you to buy mi a3 , ROM development is huge and there's even oftwrp
If you have already bought cc9e, then don't expect really large development support

Is the Xiaomi Mi 6 Worth it?

Hey
Thanks for any help, and sorry if this isn't the proper space for it.
I've a Sprint S6 Edge, but I'm considering changing it for the new Xiami Mi 6. Is it a good deal?
Am I going to miss the 2K Amoled Screen? I'm going to feel the difference in the camera? And the IR sensor? Am I going to miss it that much?
I think MI 6maybe better than S6E, there's a 835 in it.
If u want keep on Sprint, do not purchase the Chinese brand cell phone which not sold by Sprint. Too pain.
If u can transfer to T-Mobile or AT&T, that a great phone recently.
Great phone, got it today.
i buy it today. so i waiting.
Xiaomi only uses good chipset nothing else, S6 Edge is better, dont buy xiaomi

What do you mean? I'm still using a 3 years old mi 3. Had to change only once the battery. Running the latest RR rom is still better than many new phones with OEM roms.

Why? I have Mi5 for a year, and it shames my father S6E in almost every aspect. Only thing going for S6E is screen...,maybe...
Well, now I'm using MI 6, I got it for have a month. The hardware is good except some problems caused by SD835(such as WiFi...), but the software is not so stable at the moment, for example, in latest version of MIUI the quick charge was limited...
It will be better after a few days, anyway software problems are easy to fix.

I don't think so. Used both S6 Active and S7 Active, I would say Mi 6 is better than both.

Which version MIUI you have? I have no problem with both the latest stable China and Custom EU rom (based on Dev China Rom).... (I used 45W charger of Xiaomi which support both USB PD and QC 3.0)

Should i buy a Pixel XL Marlin for custom roms ?

the question is in the title ^^, for precision, i would say that, since i have a phone, i use custom roms, the last i had was the samsung galaxy s5, the thing is that, custom roms have recurrent bugs on this device, we had to wait a long time to get a "stable" oreo rom on it, for example, camera and fingerprint were not working for a moment..
so i want to know if roms are stable and smooth on this phone, thanks

If you want custom roms etc just buy a OnePlus or Xiaomi device they're very popular among developers
oneplus are too expansive for me, but yea i heard that roms are perfect on this, and wich one xiaomi should i go with ? i know that xiomis are chinese phones, but do they work well on french bandwidths ?
i see that there's a **** ton of roms on the redmi note 4 "mido", the price is really low

Reason I don't recommend you to jump on the Pixel is not much development is going on, The Device will be EOL on P so Major updates will stop some of the newer budget devices will still have that 2 years OS support and much more custom roms that you're after I think it'll be a better buy, Pixel XL isn't a bad buy by any means just I think better value for your situation is to be had on other devices
Which bands do you need? If you buy from official Xiaomi French store should have your bands but check before buying anything

Mi A2 was just announced will come soon is running Android One, updates should be inline with Pixel Line will have a ton of developement just like the Mi A1 you can see here
Redmi Note 5 also great device a lot of development can see here

The pro is just named that way in other markets I think in india is called the "Redmi Note 5 Pro" But in Europe it's called "Redmi Note 5" Same device just different name
Xiaomi is a bit confusing with it's branding

I am looking to buy a used Marlin as well. The price is much lower then the two phones suggested here. Does anyone have any comments or recommendations? My budget is around $200 USD.

If it has to be a Marlin make sure you buy a non Verizon model as they block bootloader unlock can be a pita to get it unlocked
last I saw you had to pay like $30 to some shady guy to remotely unlock through team viewer...

Coming back to Custom ROMS

I have been away in the wilderness for the past 5 years and I am trying to get back into customs roms.
I purchased from Amazon UK the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, so I assume this is classed is the Pro version.... its 3GB/32GB model
After doing some research on the forum. Is it true to say that the Stock Miui rom is the most stable rom? I am currenly on Miui 10.
Its nice but I would prefer stock android/pixel port with everything working plus gcam.
I Would prefer Oreo until Pie is stable enough, but after doing some further reading I get the feeling that Oreo based roms aren't stable or have I misread.
Thanks

Been on Pixel Expirience pie for over 2 months, more than stable enough for daily use. Didnt encounter any bugs, everythings working, just heard that cast is not working, but cant confirm as i dont use it. Most stable is ofcourse OEM soft, in this case miui. Wont recommend gcam as its not stable, atleast for global version front camera is bugged. If you start flashing various gcam patches this forum is full of, youll probably end up with same bugged gcam AND it will give you extra troubles, like no sound etc. Pixel Expirience without any modifications and patches works well. Btw "pro" version is only for india, they have different front camera hardware and gcam seems to be working well on it, there is also AI version which is exactly the same as global version, just with less network bands support.
Thanks for the reply...

No, its the same phone, but as i said, pro moniker is only used in india. Global model is just redmi note 5. Global and chinese versions are identical, apart from global supporting more network bands. Pro version is same as Global, but has different front camera hardware for some reason. If im not mistaken, it has 20mpx, while global/china uses 12mpx front sensor. They all support same roms tho, and all have same codename, which is "whyred". This forum is for whyred. Note5/5 plus is another device, it uses snapdragon 625 and has single back camera. I know, naming scheme is ridiculously confusing, but thats xiaomi, its not the first time. They use different names in different regions, and release many similar devices.

To buy or not...

It looks like the mi 9 SE will be released global on the 28th of March. I want to "measure" how big the xda community will be for this phone, and also just curious...
If the mi 9 SE will be released globally, will you consider buying this phone (answer in poll)?
Well it's just as easy to modify as most of Xiaomi phones so I guess soon there will be here some custom rom choices. Especially if the only other smaller size competitor is Samsung 10e, for over twice the price.
I have 9se for about three weeks so far and must admit it's a great piece of hardware, but only if you like compact devices. Otherwise I'd rather choose Redmi Note 7 (limited budget) or Mi 9 or keep waiting for Poco F2.

Yes, absolutely. I'm looking forward to purchase the 128gb varient. I LOVE compact phones, especially the ones with flagship spec i.e. Sony. But I'm definitely getting the Mi 9 SE.
Actually, its form factor seem to be the best. I would consider buying the P30 or S10e, but the price is way better on the Mi 9 SE.
Just wondering if it worth waiting for the Mi A3 lite, which would be about the same smartphone except for the snapdragon (660 and not 712) but with Android One and b28....
It depends on what is important for you. I am planning to buy too, after I have seen some reviews and possibly if I see some development activity here.
The reasons I would buy this phone are: small size, amoled screen, quite decent chipset and nfc.
I would personally not buy the galaxy s10e because of the high price and the lack of developement I have seen with their previous phones.

I just watched a couple of reviews and forum posts so mine is not a "direct" opinion, anyway
About photos, they are very good. They are not great, as well as big brother Mi 9, probably that's due to the software: AI and drivers are still not perfectly calibrated on Sony IMX586. It looks like worst than Mi 8, even if on paper Mi9/Mi9SE should have a better sensor.
About battery, it's enough! If you use dark theme, you can reach 6 hours of display on. Recently Xiaomi released DC function for Mi 9 , maybe we will see the same for Mi 9 SE because both have AMOLED display, which can benefit of this DC function.
If battery sometime isn't enough, QC @ 18W can pump in a few minutes the energy you need to reach late night.

Photos during daylight are great, just as you wish them to be. Every lens is doing it's job well - you can get a nice close up photo with zoom, wide angle lens proved to be useful as well, bokeh is nice (but it used to be so even on Mi 6). I am a little disappointed with night mode though - before I was playing with it on Mix 3 and there the results looked like magic, here are mediocre. It looks like the algorithm is only increasing the general brightness of the photo without recognizing the difference between stuff which should be visible and that is supposed to remain dark. The effect is obviously worse than on Mi 9 (basing on the reviews).
The battery is sufficient. Mi 9 SE as a smaller size phone is not bought for gaming therefore for any other activity can be used quite long. E.g. I've got over 14 hours of continuous movie play (MX Player HW+) and 25 hours when left as a clock (Big Clock app on Google Play). When you're not using the phone the battery drain is about 1% per hour with Ambient Display on.

Xiaomi is notoriously slow with updates. Like now, it's the end of March still no March patch, some people didn't even get Feb patch yet. And the biggest f*** up that Xiaomi did is after android pie update. Wifi Mac has changed, some people got their phone bricked, wifi keeps disconnecting, battery life is super poor (4-5h sot), a lot of bugs I encounter every day, still using 3.18 kernel instead of 4.9 etc. etc.

Nah, the only reason why switched to custom for a while is because the wifi problem, everyone is facing this issue. It's disconnects won't won't connect back, and 5ghz wifi speed is very poor.

I want the mi 9 se as a replacement device. I finally want a premium (cut down) flagship phone, and hopefully will last for about 4 years or more.
Looks like I was following a false track. The release from 28th only contained mi 9 and redmi note 7.
There have been a few others sources hinting towards a global launch. For now we just have to wait.

It is also listed on geekbuying for buying, not only for preorder.
6/64 edition for about 330€ after using coupons seems to be quite a good deal.
Pros:
- 6" screen is still enough.
- Amoled screen and non-intrusive notch.
- Size. The device itself is tiny and lightweight.
- Hardware is below flagship, but much better than mid-range.
- Treble enabled, kernel source already released.
Cons:
- MIUI environment is not so friendly.
- dev scene (I hope I am wrong).
- OEM updates.

Miui and oem updates aren't the issue for me.
Ok, so to summerize:
- Small from factor
- Amoled screen
- Indisplay fingerprint
- 4G b20 and b28
- Widevine L1
- 6Gb RAM
A part for the CPU power, it is even more interesting for me than s10e, and for half the price.
So I definetly swap my OnePlus 6 for this device. The last question is where should we buy it to be sure we have the global version?

I would reccomend honorbuy because of european stock and no VAT on delivery (if you are based in Europe).
Devices are shipped with european socket charger.
If you buy on Aliexpress you must check any custom duty that would be added to the shipment in your country.

Custom ROM chances?

Hi dev,
Why aren't there many custom ROMs for samsung s20+ Exynos or s20 series devices?
I feel oxygen os 11 would look great on s20 series devices.
Is there any component of device causing no custom ROM development?
Well... I had an exynos Note 10+ and the development for that phone was pitiful and was why I sold the phone. Thinking of buying an S20+ but only if I see some active development or at least plans
Well as phones ar getting more expensive and rooting less viable, I really don't see a bright future for custom rom development on future samsung phones.

Agree, valid reasons for rooting are evaporating. With app based options offering solutions and Samsung making it more and more challenging it's hard to justify. Especially when one considers the prices for a top shelf device and a very real possibility you'll brick your smartphone. Firmware and CSC's are much more complex than 5 or 10 years back, it's not like the good old days when rooting was more straight forward. With that being stated much of the push for rooting comes from users who fail to investigate which device is best suited for their needs, even within the same model line.

Buy an OP phone if you like that, the S20`s have different hardware so most likely not possible.
