Hello,
I've recently just acquired a Galaxy Watch and in the shop I was told that I could use the watch and be connected without being near my phone.
I have the P30 Pro and absolutely everything works, I've had no issues whatsoever other than there not being an available network connection for my watch.
I have a data plan enabled for my watch through my network provider and they told me that it will definitely work.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and how they managed to go about fixing it.
Kind regards
Not all plans give you access to an esim. In Australia, you have to have a contract with one of the three major telcos and be willing to pay an extra $5 for the privelage of getting their esim downloaded to your watch. After that, you can cut the cord with your mobile phone. Maybe, that's sort of what you need to do too?

Have just changed network to three mobile (UK), because they have great all you can eat data phone tarrif.
I also just bought replacement n1520 after the old one broke and samsun wont honor waranty.
They wont let me use the internet on the phone as they say its a tablet not a phone, and i need to get data sim which i wont be able to make phone calls!
aparantly 5.7" is ok but 8" is too big for a screen.
this is nutts three wont allow the n5100/n5120 to be used as designed.
£300 out of pocket on phone and now tied into 12 month contract.
anybody know any way to get the data to work?

Used a sim from a working phone and got the EE error after unlocking my ATT LTE Note 8.0.
Found a booth at the mall and found you need to get a data only SIM for tablets... Tested on Virgin in Scotland and worked fine, don't like Virgin. Soon I will be going to Amsterdam to pick a plan and service plus the SIM is cheaper as well.

I can confirm that the phone works great on Virgin as i was conected to their network prior to joing three.
have now escalted to exc office and it has been confirmed they have no plans to enable the galaxy note 8 to be used on Three
I too have a Note 8 N5120 and absolutely thrilled using it with Gear1 etc...like you I was on Three and was blocked data, so both me and the wife cancelled the Direct Debit and are now both with o2 (amazing 4G) with a 5 Gig of data plan, unlimited calls and texts, both comes to around £50 a month, sim only for both mind as we already had phones.
I tend to use speakerphone a lot more than using voice from the watch as they are both audible to the public and quality is better from phone anyway so the Gear is neither here nor there I suppose, but crack on with the Note 8 its a fantastic device to use as a phone.
As for Three, wake up and smell the coffee, listen to what people want!!!!
Simply call them up like I did and explain you are not paying a single penny for the contract as they block your Note 8 from data, if everyone done this they might change this stupid rule..
Is there any way to spoof the identity of the device so three think it's a galaxy s5 or something?

afaik it detects the IMEI number, so they must have 2 lists, phone IMEI's and tablet IMEI's....1 list is blocked and the other isnt...
Dear xda
First off, I absolutely love the concept of this phone: strong, big battery, great hardware,... and I dont really mind touchzwiz (the way it is now).
I'm wondering if it interesting to import the s7 active to Europe or not. As far as my research goes, this is what i found out:
at&t has an unlock service via their website
íll have to pay import duty and VAT (is this also the case if I purchase a "used" phone?)
at&t's s7 active supports all bands, so no problem there
at&t has some bloatware which shouldn't be to much of a problem to remove
updates will suck big time, unless we get root and we update the rom ourselves.
If anyone has info about Samsung introducing the s7 active to Europe, please let me know.
Wondering this myself
Yes it will work. Relatives just went to Europe with 3 S7 Actives we got att to unlock as they were bought outright. Work fine on Wind and Cosmote carriers, and will be sold to friends before they return.
Package Disabler Pro works to disable samsung and att updates and bloatware without root.
Those 3 Actives will pay for mine; sometimes carrier exclusivity is a great thing.
Wondering about the import duty and VAT if I import a used phone.
Anybody know?
There's plenty of post on what to disable manually so no need to pay for an app as it does the same thing. If it's convenience you want then the app will help but there's plenty of post for all provider variants of Samsung phones on xda and reddit.
Import duty and taxes will always have to be paid. If you buy second hand make sure a proof of purchase is included otherwise they will charge the tax of a new phone. You can get a friend to take one home with him/her and they will not pay.
I've bought the S7 Active this week in Switzerland. The phone was unlocked already. Inserted the SIM card from my local provider Swisscom and it works perfect.
Only what I do miss: no BT SAP support.
Hiow did you manage that? Where/who did you buy it from?

No option to do software update with s7 active.
Hi anyone know how to get ota updates on the s7 active in the UK?
You don't. Updates need to be flashed from the sd card or with a computer via odin.
Hello
I've about the same questions for an use in France : how difficult is it, once received (supposively an ATT one unlocked), to update up to last android version oreo and is there a loss of functionnalities if not used in USA..?
Thanks in advance
Julien
I use it regulate in Italy (un-lock of course) Oreo 8.0 G891AUCS4CRG3, I'm looking for a way to improve reception, perhaps replacing the modem software with another modem software
Hello
Thanks @Matad1974 for your reply, so it's possible to use it in Europe without too much difficulties and loss of functions..? Which method did you used (OTA/KiES/Odin) ?
About reception isn't it because there are bands missing..? I've read somewhere using code #*#*4636*#*# you can choose bands, have you try ?
Thanks in advance
Julien
Hello, I bought it directly from the United States already unlocked, it works well, but the reception is a bit poor sometimes, where before with the same card took good, and when I talk to someone my voice sometimes is not very understandable .. because of this maybe changing the modem maybe it gets better.
With this code #*#*4636*#*# it does not do anything to me
I took a ride on the internet and I found this code, I try various settings code *#2263#
I can recommend it for european users as well. You lose some of the newest features I think, like Wifi calling.
Updating is pretty simple but a little inconvenient since the update does wipe all your data. There is a thread in this forum that can help you.
Also you should only buy from a thrustworthy seller, but that's just common sense.
(Changing bands can also be done with an app, for example "Network Switch")
Just thought I'd share this. Usually EE Wi-Fi calling only works if you have bought the device from ee and run their firmware. However I bought mine from Samsung and have it working. I have not done anything special but I have come from an iphone with Wi-Fi calling enabled so assume that if you have this activated from an iphone or previous android device then it must activate the setting on new devices.

Interesting I spoke too EE Thursday night and was told Wi-Fi calling wasn't available on note 7 so they sent me a call booster box for home as I have bad signal
Sent from my SM-N930F using XDA Labs
I have known this for ages, my note 7, s7 edge and HTC 10 are all sim free from the manufacturer direct and all have wifi calling which works with my ee sim
Sent from my SM-N930F using XDA-Developers mobile app
its under call settings right at the bottom. Just turn it on!
Factory reset mine with ee sim installed last night got software update, now have wifi calling icon and a couple of calls logs are showing wifi symbol so I guess it's working
WiFi Calling on sim free No EE Firmware
Around a year and a half ago I got an HTC One M9 from Carphone Warehouse. I expected WiFi calling because I knew the phone was compatible and I had gone for pay monthly on a two year contract. I initially went with O2, which was considerably cheaper than EE but I live out in the sticks and couldn't any signal anywhere, even when I took my phone for a drive, looking for signal. So cpw switched me to EE. Turns out only EE and Three work well around here.
EE said I couldn't get WiFi calling because I didn't buy the phone direct from them. Two or three months ago they gave me a free "signal box", which connects to a wired LAN connection on my router, and provides my home with indoor 3g phone signal for calls and texts etc. The box works very well but only works with EE, Orange and T Mobile phones. It's also no use anywhere other than inside my house.
I got hot chip fat inside my HTC and have just bought a Google Pixel from Carphone Warehouse, sim free again, and paid for it outright on a card, transferring my sim from my HTC. I couldn't find anything online that would tell me if I'd get WiFi calling and assumed I wouldn't get it. To my surprise, when I toggled the option on my new Pixel and placed a call, I got a text from EE saying WiFi calling is enabled. Where it tells you the network on the lock screen, it now says EE WiFi calling. Needless to say I'm over the moon. Especially as my £35 a month EE contract is up in about 6 months. Then I will switch to the cheaper sim only option.

for sure it does, mine's an EE note 7 and it worked right away once enabled and it activated. Pity the note-3 doesn't seem to have that feature though, oh well

Yeah mine's due to go, still waiting on EE to send the bomb-proof bag to ship it in
Have thought about getting a note-5 meantime, but then unless its new how much life is really left in the battery given its sealed in... My note 3 has a new battery so should be good for 18-24 months so likely will just stick with that and see what next year brings us

Do you still have your note 7?
Hello all.
First time poster and have already searched for my answer without luck.
I have the Huawei P20 mate pro in UK on EE (and very happy with it) however looking to purchase a smart watch.
EE have an offer for a 4g Galaxy Watch. I have been after a good smart watch for some time. I like the thought of usng mybwatch instead of my phone with the 4g feature.
I have seen online that there maybe compatibility issues with the mate 20 pro.
On the EE website it says the watch is only for use with the Samsung galaxy phone.
I've looked everywhere for some advice without any luck.
Can anyone give me some advice?
Cheers
Buy it and enjoy it! you wont have messaging though, only reply to the last text unless you download a program called PULSE on your phone and watch. you will get all of your notifications and be able to make phone calls etc. I use a pixel 2 xl with no issues.
The 4G capabilities will only work with another Samsung model that’s on your EE account. The watch’s other features will still work though as it works with almost Android phones.

So you're saying if i trade my bluetooth version for an LTE version I wont be able to make calls from it by itself? (i do not have a samsung phone btw)
Are there are any other Visible users on here? Visible is owned and operated by Verizon (it's not a MVNO). They are offering unlimited unthrottled data/talk/text/hotspot for $40/month without contract. I switched about 10 days ago. Speedtests are as high as 103Mbps! Got the deal to get the S9 for $408-$200 MasterCard they'll send in 6 weeks to equal $208. Service is exceptional and the S9 is factory unlocked. WiFi calling and Visual Voicemail work too. If anyone is interested, you can input code wQ8bD at checkout to get your first bill for only $20.

I'm trying the service, but I find that Visible seems to prevent the use of a VPN. (I use Private Internet Access.) T-Mobile doesn't have a problem with VPN so I'm not sure why Verizon's Visible does.
I'm using NordVPN with my S9 without issue. What VPN are you using?

I am looking to go with Visible, but need the VPN. I too have PIA. Are you using the PIA app or the OpenVPN app on your phone?

I have the PIA apk from the Google Play store. The Visible apk is the beta version, also from the Play store. I rebooted the phone after several package updates were delivered by Google this afternoon. And now PIA (updated 22 May) and Visible (updated 12 July) seem to be working together. So yeah, that's good news. Give Visible a try.
If you need a code mine is: wNmt8 (Full disclosure: Both you and I get a discount if you use that code. I don't have any relationship with Verizon, aside from just the cell service.)
So I learned Visible is selling the ZTE R2 phone temporarily for ONLY $19 ($20.52 shipped) and I asked Customer Support if I could buy one for a backup phone since they don't offer insurance. The rep said if I create a new account and buy the phone but don't activate the SIM I won't ever be charged for service and I'll have a spare phone for $20 so that's what I did. It will be interesting to play with. If you would like to get your first bill for $20 my referral code is wQ8bD
I am using it on an S9 and if you understand it ONLY works on Verizon and there is no roaming you will do fine.
As an aside, I am trying to change the SIM Pin and require it at boot as an additional way to secure the phone. Visible will not, or cannot provide the default SIM Pin. Anyone know what it is?
I am going to give them a shot. I will be moving my GF from Meto. Metro is getting on my nerves. We cant swap the sim without them throwing a fit. Also, the store employes state we need to pay them 10 to swap the IMEI BS if you ask me. But Visible will let me turn in my OLD iPhone 5C to get credit for that free ZTE phone they are passing out. Looks like they will give you the phone no matter what. Will report back on how good the services are in Charlotte NC. I have Verizon should be a good comparison.
Visible works well in Central and Northern WI with the exception of Marathon County which has no native Verizon towers.
it seems that its one of the myriad of the MVNOs out there.
Visible pin might be 1212
I'm new here and on a phone, I could t find how to reply...
For the person who asked about the pin for the sim, try 1212, that's the account pin (found on reddit)
And I wanted to ask the person who was able to root this device, how he did it? I got the g960u1 from visible last Wednesday, and I've been trying to root it or at least get twrp, with no success... I would love any help in this matter, thanks in advance
Thanks, can anyone try 1212 on there phone? I only have one more try before the phone locks and I need a new SIM from Visible. That means at least 24 hours without a phone.
A user on Reddit tried 1212 and it did not work.
Can anyone try 1111?
It is 1111, confirmed
