Hello all.
First time poster and have already searched for my answer without luck.
I have the Huawei P20 mate pro in UK on EE (and very happy with it) however looking to purchase a smart watch.
EE have an offer for a 4g Galaxy Watch. I have been after a good smart watch for some time. I like the thought of usng mybwatch instead of my phone with the 4g feature.
I have seen online that there maybe compatibility issues with the mate 20 pro.
On the EE website it says the watch is only for use with the Samsung galaxy phone.
I've looked everywhere for some advice without any luck.
Can anyone give me some advice?
Cheers
Buy it and enjoy it! you wont have messaging though, only reply to the last text unless you download a program called PULSE on your phone and watch. you will get all of your notifications and be able to make phone calls etc. I use a pixel 2 xl with no issues.
The 4G capabilities will only work with another Samsung model that’s on your EE account. The watch’s other features will still work though as it works with almost Android phones.

I am hoping someone can answer something for me. I am getting the 46mm Galaxy watch with LTE from T-Mobile as soon as they are back in stock. Hopefully it will ship the 24th which is the earliest. Anyway, I have been doing a lot of research on the watch. Some things concern me and I can only work around one I get the watch.
But, the major concern is when I get the watch will it be already activated on LTE? I have read a lot of people talking about having to have a Samsung phone to do the activation. I talked to T-Mobile and they said it should be activated already if the Digits line is active. It is active on the other one we ordered that was in stock. I just don't know about mine yet until it ships.
So, does anyone have any experience with this watch on T-Mobile? I do not have a Samsung phone. I know all Bluetooth stuff will work. I just want to use it as a standalone device also.

You need a T-Mobile phone to get it up and running. My watch connected to my phone thru bluetooth and was working just fine, but I couldn't get the LTE to work until after I made the trip to an actual T-Mobile store. I have a Verizon phone. I couldn't get the LTE to work so I ended up using a T-mobile employee's phone to set it up. It needs to download something thru a T-Mobile line. But once you set it up you're good. Hope this helps.
Yeah I bought it straight from T-Mobile. And I have T-Mobile. I just have a Moto z2 force and I have heard you can't set the LTE up without a Samsung phone. You get kind of error like that it can't be setup on this device. T-Mobile assured me it will be working fully after they link the Digits line to it. Which is right before it ships.

Did you get your watch to activate on a T-mobile stand alone line? I have Sprint for my phone. I have a Samsung S2 watch on a stand alone line. I went in and bought a Galaxy Watch at a T-mobile store. We tried for 3 days and never got it to activate on my stand alone line, so I returned it. The guys in the store called all kinds of customer service numbers. They were finally told that Samsung wouldn't allow it to activate on a stand alone line. We all thought it was bs but no one could get it working. So does yours have its own line and number on T-mobile? Thanks.

I only have one line thru T-Mobile and it is the Galaxy watch. My actual phone is a Verizon phone. I had problems getting it to sync to my phone. I called Samsung and t-mobile, both didn't know what was what. I returned my watch and got a new one thinking it was defective. The new one did the same thing. So I went to the Samsung forums with my problem and someone suggested to take it to the store and use one of there phones. So I did.
It took a couple of tries. I used two different phones from the store before the employee just let me use his. I forget what kind of phone he had but that made all the difference. I suggest going into a t-mobile store and syncing your watch to the most current SAMSUNG device they have. What happens is they use the phone to transfer the file you need to your watch. Once you have it downloaded on your watch the LTE should be up and running. You won't need that phone ever again even after a factory reset. Your watch should have its own number and you can connect it to whatever carrier phone you have.
Let it be noted that I did this before any updates occurred. I would have hoped this issue would have been fixed by now. I hope this helps. I will say that T-Mobile was very kind, and when they could be, they were very helpful.
The Situation: I'm with Verizon with a Note 3. The problems are it won't work past the end of the year because it has no HD voice, and the Verizon Note 4 and 5 won't support Colombian bands. Moreover, I plan to live in Colombia a lot of the time. I also need call recording because that's how we bill for our time and take notes for projects. I've used a stylus and this capability to automate my business since the TouchPro2, but the Note 8 and 9 get Pie, which are both regressions and cannot record calls, and they are not rootable so they can be made to. I looked for phones that are root-friendly, and this the Pixel 3 XL tops that list.
What I want: Either be able to record calls and use Google Pay, or root it and record calls. For the Verizon network, it must be able to do Verizon's VoLTE and aggregation would be nice, as well as LTE-A standard's based VoLTE and aggregation like they use in Colombia and everywhere else.
Questions about the Pixel 3 XL (or 3a XL) It SOUNDS like this model allows you to root it and if you want to go back later you can reset it to factory and and again enable Google Pay, unlike Samsung and their locked loader and fuse fiasco. Would that be accurate?
Other: I love my stylus and have only had phones with one since the Touch Pro2. I've never been a fan of KNOX fuse, and after Kit-Kat there is no way around not tripping it, and now you can't even acquire root, so perhaps it's time to ditch Samsung. If I need to carry 2 phones, I guess that's how it is, and I'll get a Note 4 for the US and have calls forwarded to it via Google Voice while I'm in Colombia, and a second phone to use locally that can use Google Pay or whatever.
Thanks!

As long as you get the phone directly from Google, you will need able to freely unlock Bootloader, root, re-lock the bootloader and go back to stock, all this without voiding your warrantee or blowing fuses like in Samsung phones. I'm sure you can also get Google pay to work while rooted with the available Magisk modules and workaround (although I myself don't use it). I do use the Samsung pay with my Samsung watch synced with my rooted Pixel 3Xl and it works just fine by hiding root on Magisk.

I love my stylus, but I thought a lot about the Pixel 3 XL for the very reasons you mention. You're making it hard for me to stick to Samsung.
Trust me, coming from someone who owned every generation of Note except the first, I can honestly tell you that it's hard giving the pen up but it is so totally worth it in other ways....I don't think I will ever look back specially when I know every first Monday of every month my phone will receive the latest update and will be updated before every other phone out there. I got sick and tired of Samsung releasing OS updates 8 to 9 months after Google made them available to everyone. I do miss certain features but once I adapted, they are insignificant now. The camera is also top notch and is and will always be the Standard for Android phones. Every Android phone that comes out is immediately compared to the last Pixel and for the most part, the Pixel pretty much always wins.

Can you go back to Oreo and hold it there? I cannot go past Oreo or else my business software will no longer work.
Pixel 3xl was released on Android pie. You cannot use Oreo. For that you need a pixel 2.

That won't work for me then.
With Samsung lately the phone is never yours. Google crippled my business with their policy update so I had to find an old apk. Pie wants to do the same with their operating system...in the name of security. I got their name of security. While they are at work, I'll fix all of the cars in Samsung's parking lot so that their car will start, but I'll disable their transmissions to keep them safe.
Samsung is infuriating me. My Touch Pro2 was just a handheld PC and I could put Windows, Android, or iPhone emulation on it. With the Note 3, I could root it without tripping KNOX and get where I wanted to go with Android. I wouldn't be swapping it out except Verizon says it won't work past EOY because it is not LTE-A. So its a Note 9 with Oreo, or 2 Note 4s rooted with Kit-Kat; one AT&T for Colombia, and one Verizon for the states. They are LTE-A and have replaceable batteries besides.
Hello,
I've recently just acquired a Galaxy Watch and in the shop I was told that I could use the watch and be connected without being near my phone.
I have the P30 Pro and absolutely everything works, I've had no issues whatsoever other than there not being an available network connection for my watch.
I have a data plan enabled for my watch through my network provider and they told me that it will definitely work.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and how they managed to go about fixing it.
Kind regards
Not all plans give you access to an esim. In Australia, you have to have a contract with one of the three major telcos and be willing to pay an extra $5 for the privelage of getting their esim downloaded to your watch. After that, you can cut the cord with your mobile phone. Maybe, that's sort of what you need to do too?

This phone nor my Wife's mate 10 pro use 3G so I am confused about this email.
Anyone else?
I received it as a text message on my Mate 20x in May. If this happens I may switch to Spectrum Cable mobile service which uses the Verizon network.

T-mobile maybe? Update: They're dropping it too... 3G is dead as Zed.
But these phones are not using 3G so i dont understand why they will block them
I got a text message today from AT&T saying "we're sending you a phone. if you don't activate it, we will auto activate it after 30 days and your phone you're using now will only be able to call 911"
This is a huge bummer.

I actually did 2 months ago when they just shut my phone off completely. Spoke with a cool rep who turned it back on.
But I haven't reached out to them about this text message.
But here is the list https://www.att.com/idpassets/images/support/wireless/Devices-Working-on-ATT-Network.pdf
Funny, SM-N975U1 which is NOT a 5g phone seems to be on the list of accepted phones. This is a very big bummer.
I'm gonna ride the wave and pretend I didnt' even get a phone from AT&T and see just how long I can keep using my Mate 20x here in the USA on ATT.
If only 16:9 or 16:10 phones would come back. But looks like lame kitkat phones are here to stay. :/

Funny you mention this as a week ago I stumbled upon a thread "boycotting" the slim "cigarette" phones possessing aspect ratios greater than 16:9. From what I had gathered from reading through user's complaints, about 97% favored the re-adoption of the classic wide AR of phones while disfavoring (with some expletives) these Malboro cigarette phones.
In my opinion, in order to please certain audiences (that would be us) phone companies should at least provide 2 phone flavors, slim and wide. Personally I wouldnt mind creating a fb campaign if you guys would like to join that protest.

My best advice to you if you really want your mate 20x to remain your keepsake is to swap networks to another gsm which would be a smart move by paying a similar price

Ok guys I have created a facebook page. Keep in mind that this is the first time I have ever created a fb page regarding a company. Note also, I'm not a social media person so bear with me. That said, I strongly encourage suggestions as to how best to make it look right and communicate the right message to the company and our audience. It is still a work in progress. Please don't hesitate to add your opinions.
I need 24 likes on the fb page before I can add a username according to fb rules.
Let me know what you think!

Stop Samsung. 1 like. This is a campaign to compel Samsung Electronics to manufacture wide phones again. Unfortunately, today's narrow phones have replaced wide phones leaving consumers disappointed...

EDIT--
On the fb page the link is in chinese for some strange reason although I'm not chinese and reside in USA. If anyone here can suggest how to fix that do let me know. Thanks.
Hi guys. A few of you have reacted favorably to my fb page on urging samsung to resurrect the wide aspect ratio. However, I'm new to making fb pages. If you want to submit some ideas to me on how to reach a greater audience or enhance the page to convey our message better, please do so. Thank you.
Getting back to the initial point of this thread, my phone was turned off today by AT&T in the United States. I spoke with AT&T customer service. They indicated that even though the EVR-L29 is a 4G LTE phone, it handles voice calls over a 3G network. There is supposed to be a setting on the device to switch the phone to 4G LTE calling (VoLTE.) However, when I checked my settings, the switch was not there. I posted in another thread on XDA about this situation; but have not heard back. In the meantime, has anyone found a solution? I was told that all of these devices would be turned off permanently in February as the 3G network will be dismantled. I'm hoping to find a solution before then because I really don't want to let this phone go. Otherwise, are there any suggestions for other larger (7") screen phones that do 4G LTE calling on US bands supported by either AT&T or T-Mobile? Thanks.

What bothers me is that cricket, H2O, etc... Which are all on the AT&T network have not been told they need to get a LTE voice phone.
My parents are in cricket with OnePlus unlocked phones. My sister is in H2O.
Business as usual for carriers that use AT&T towers so what the **** is going on at AT&T?

Yeah I was going to do that but then my wife wanted to upgrade phones and I kind of wanted the better cameras of the S21 Ultra. Plus I never felt the Mate 20x was that big anyway (compared to what I had before). Still hoping for the return of the 16:10 phones one day or better foldable ones
Anyway, at least at this time, I dont see a problem with Tmobile and the Mate 20x.

As far as I understand, you'll need an eSIM to use LTE/4G on the watch. You need to check with your carrier if they can provide one for you.

Can I use a Mint plan on my smartwatch? | Mint Mobile
Unfortunately, Mint plans do not support smartwatches right now.
www.mintmobile.com
I assume the lack of support has to do with whatever is running in the background that allows the watch to use the same number as the phone. What if the phone wasn't part of it? Activate the watch on a plan, give it its own number. The watch wouldn't be a companion device. These watches are just phones shrunk down and can work on their own. I found a Galaxy Watch4 on Swappa with the IMEI number posted. I entered it into Mint's checker and it came back as a compatible device. What if the sim from a phone were install into a watch that uses a physical sim?
