EE Wi-Fi calling works on SIM free devices! - Note 7 Questions & Answers

Just thought I'd share this. Usually EE Wi-Fi calling only works if you have bought the device from ee and run their firmware. However I bought mine from Samsung and have it working. I have not done anything special but I have come from an iphone with Wi-Fi calling enabled so assume that if you have this activated from an iphone or previous android device then it must activate the setting on new devices.

Interesting I spoke too EE Thursday night and was told Wi-Fi calling wasn't available on note 7 so they sent me a call booster box for home as I have bad signal

I have known this for ages, my note 7, s7 edge and HTC 10 are all sim free from the manufacturer direct and all have wifi calling which works with my ee sim
Sent from my SM-N930F using XDA-Developers mobile app

its under call settings right at the bottom. Just turn it on!

Factory reset mine with ee sim installed last night got software update, now have wifi calling icon and a couple of calls logs are showing wifi symbol so I guess it's working

WiFi Calling on sim free No EE Firmware
Around a year and a half ago I got an HTC One M9 from Carphone Warehouse. I expected WiFi calling because I knew the phone was compatible and I had gone for pay monthly on a two year contract. I initially went with O2, which was considerably cheaper than EE but I live out in the sticks and couldn't any signal anywhere, even when I took my phone for a drive, looking for signal. So cpw switched me to EE. Turns out only EE and Three work well around here.
EE said I couldn't get WiFi calling because I didn't buy the phone direct from them. Two or three months ago they gave me a free "signal box", which connects to a wired LAN connection on my router, and provides my home with indoor 3g phone signal for calls and texts etc. The box works very well but only works with EE, Orange and T Mobile phones. It's also no use anywhere other than inside my house.
I got hot chip fat inside my HTC and have just bought a Google Pixel from Carphone Warehouse, sim free again, and paid for it outright on a card, transferring my sim from my HTC. I couldn't find anything online that would tell me if I'd get WiFi calling and assumed I wouldn't get it. To my surprise, when I toggled the option on my new Pixel and placed a call, I got a text from EE saying WiFi calling is enabled. Where it tells you the network on the lock screen, it now says EE WiFi calling. Needless to say I'm over the moon. Especially as my £35 a month EE contract is up in about 6 months. Then I will switch to the cheaper sim only option.

for sure it does, mine's an EE note 7 and it worked right away once enabled and it activated. Pity the note-3 doesn't seem to have that feature though, oh well

Yeah mine's due to go, still waiting on EE to send the bomb-proof bag to ship it in
Have thought about getting a note-5 meantime, but then unless its new how much life is really left in the battery given its sealed in... My note 3 has a new battery so should be good for 18-24 months so likely will just stick with that and see what next year brings us

[Q] The most stupid idiotic thing ever!!

Have just changed network to three mobile (UK), because they have great all you can eat data phone tarrif.
I also just bought replacement n1520 after the old one broke and samsun wont honor waranty.
They wont let me use the internet on the phone as they say its a tablet not a phone, and i need to get data sim which i wont be able to make phone calls!
aparantly 5.7" is ok but 8" is too big for a screen.
this is nutts three wont allow the n5100/n5120 to be used as designed.
£300 out of pocket on phone and now tied into 12 month contract.
anybody know any way to get the data to work?

Used a sim from a working phone and got the EE error after unlocking my ATT LTE Note 8.0.
Found a booth at the mall and found you need to get a data only SIM for tablets... Tested on Virgin in Scotland and worked fine, don't like Virgin. Soon I will be going to Amsterdam to pick a plan and service plus the SIM is cheaper as well.

I can confirm that the phone works great on Virgin as i was conected to their network prior to joing three.
have now escalted to exc office and it has been confirmed they have no plans to enable the galaxy note 8 to be used on Three
I too have a Note 8 N5120 and absolutely thrilled using it with Gear1 etc...like you I was on Three and was blocked data, so both me and the wife cancelled the Direct Debit and are now both with o2 (amazing 4G) with a 5 Gig of data plan, unlimited calls and texts, both comes to around £50 a month, sim only for both mind as we already had phones.
I tend to use speakerphone a lot more than using voice from the watch as they are both audible to the public and quality is better from phone anyway so the Gear is neither here nor there I suppose, but crack on with the Note 8 its a fantastic device to use as a phone.
As for Three, wake up and smell the coffee, listen to what people want!!!!
Simply call them up like I did and explain you are not paying a single penny for the contract as they block your Note 8 from data, if everyone done this they might change this stupid rule..
Is there any way to spoof the identity of the device so three think it's a galaxy s5 or something?

Razer System Size / Wifi Calling

Hi All,
I just got my Razer phone and I'm loving it so far. I have gotten the 3 branded version and have noticed that the System alone is taking up 10.1 GB of storage space and just wondered what the size of the unbranded version was? Also, I rely on Wifi Calling as my signal sucks and wondered if anyone could confirm if wifi calling works on the unbranded version or if I need to stay with the 3 branded version for this feature?
Cheers
Currently if i was you i would stick the the ThreeUK branded version if you are using the network, Razer published an unstable build of Oreo (believe its code name is MR4) but stick to the ThreeUK branded image until the 3/4G data issue has been fixed. At least wait until threeuk have published their Oreo version of the build for their phones/customers before switching over to Razers OEM build (which currently has majour connection issues over data)

This was a question i raised a while back and from the reseach i did back then the only service that three provide me with is WIFI calling and that London Underground wifi thing, which i barely use as i dont live in london and when visiting its not the end of the word if i go into a black spot for and hour or so while traveling around. Maybe worth just contacting ThreeUK as i had this feature on my previous iPhone which i think is tied into that ThreeUK appm and is still enable on a Sim Card in that iPhone which was a contract phone bought from Apple store but Sim only contract taken out in the ThreeUK store so not linked in away. This was done as it was just cheaper to buy the phone out right as ThreeUK didnt have stock of the bigger storage size and colour at the time i wanted to upgrade so is now pay as you go now with no credit kept my old number setup as a 2nd phone sat on its dock in the office at home and handy for any missed 2 step auth stuff i may have missed when i got the new number.
based on the info found here it seems to be something that the app enabled within the OS, however i know people dont like carrier apps but ive always found the Three app useful enough to have installed on my phone for bills and querries.
http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Three_inTouch
When looking at EE they have that 3 months free BT sports sales gimmick/offer but i believe this is just activated by a code they send you and you put into the BT website so not really app related.
Speaking to EE about this to see if this is something within the Carrier build of a google phone or an app thing so maybe check with ThreeUK and EE. as from my experince apple devices use one build so no carrier related stuff in their os and fearures work or dont work however on google phones this is sometimes part of the carrier build. Long winded but your best to either check with someone on EE using the build or contact Three and ask them for the list of features that their build of the OS provide over Razer. Sorry for the long post but hard to say without raising the queston directly to them but the wifi calling is the only thing that stands out.
Its a pain to look into as if you look at the wifi calling supported phones they have google pixel 2 - has a set os with no carrier build then various other iphones and google phones that support it but when looking at non pixel devices your in the crazy world of carrier builds
Hi all.
I am Completely reliant on WiFi calling at home as I have 0 reception. However, three have told me that the razer phone doesn't have WiFi calling. Would you be able to confirm whether native WiFi calling works (not the stupid three in touch app which is awful)?
Thanks
Wifi calling on FreedomPop works.
Thanks. I have ordered the phone on Three, so fingers crossed it works (despite them saying it doesn't). I've had multiple sources confirm it works, so only time will tell!

WiFi calling on AT&T?

I'm hoping the wifi calling works with ATT... Probably the biggest reason I'm "upgrading"from my 2 xl. Can someone post here if they find out?

I don't thik so....ATT did not want to carry Pixel 3a. And wifi calling does not work by ATT fault not google. So they will do the same for pixel 3a. But I can confirm once I get mine today.

This doesn't answer the ATT question but Verizon Wi-Fi calling works on the unlocked 3aXL from Best Buy. So maybe it'll work on ATT....hope so for you. It's a great phone
WiFi calling does work on the pixel 3 with ATT though, and that's not offered through them either

Results vary, apparently. Did you use a sim you already had, a new sim, or eSim to get your phone connected? I just ordered one from B&H, but won't ship until the 14th. AT&T wifi calling is the main reason I got this so I'm sort of tracking responses. It seems my Z3 Play is never going to get that feature. We do get wifi calling with our prepaid plan on the one iphone we have.

Thanks. If, by any chance, you lose those features (some have reported that happening, but more in the past and with phones NOT provisioned by AT&T), please let us (me) know. I felt secure enough to order the phone, so here's hoping it's all good.
I got my 3a XL today and wifi calling works perfect on my ATT service.
Confirmed as working on the 3a. VoLTE and wifi calling. Didn't have wifi calling before but was able to turn it on in settings and click through the att setup. Excited about this phone!
Also, posted at #410. That poster has prepaid (as do I). I'll open the box tomorrow morning then report my findings. :fingers-crossed:
Edit: It took persistence, but on the fourth try, BINGO!
WiFi calling failed during the first 24 hours with att Sim installed. After that period I tried again and it activated! Maybe they need to update imei in their system and then it works?

WiFi calling on Verizon network.

Has anyone confirmed that this feature works on the Verizon network on the US unlocked version of the phone?
I'm surprised that no one has the answer to this question.
Probably not. VZW seems not allowing WiFi calling on non-contract phones
Motorola's website says Yes, but I can't find anyone who has done it first hand. Just ordered one on Amazon so I'll let you know...

Please do. This is a puzzle regarding the WIFI. It looks like it supports their 5g also. Can you confirm this as well?

That's confusing since the unlocked (non contract) Galaxy Z flip has wifi calling on Verizon.
Verizon chat support says Yes, but I don't put a lot of stock in that. (chat screens attached). I'm hoping it will at least be enough to get the activation fee waived if it doesn't work and I return it. I bought a Razr from Verizon not realizing it was the 2019 non-5G version. It will likely go back because I'm having trouble swallowing $1000 for a generation behind phone, but I love the form factor.
Razr 2020 will be here Wednesday so fingers crossed and stay tuned.
So far not looking good. I made sure the phone was updated to the latest OS and apps, but there is no wifi-calling option to turn on. If I move the SIM back to my old phone wifi-calling works just fine. I'm going to call Verizon support later, but I'm not optimistic. I'll update again after I talk to support.
I spent an hour on the phone with a pretty knowledgeable tech and no luck.
Motorola has updated it's website to only say "Supports 4G, VoLTE", no longer 5G or wifi calling.
WiFi calling isn't working on Vodafone UK either, and the phone came from them.
The WiFi calling 'app' is installed, but the options in the settings are not available.
Did anyone on any network got WiFi calling to work?

Question Using an eSim without a physical Sim on AT&T

Hi, I'm trying to use an eSim only (without inserting a physical sim) on my pixel 6 pro on AT&T, however I cannot get it to work. When I say not get it to work, I mean with eSim only there is no cell signal and no data signal. Physical sim works fine on both signal and cellular service. If there's another Us AT&T pixel 6 pro user who's using only the eSIM for service please respond and let me know whether or not eSim only works for you. Thanks.
Not an AT&T user here, am using a European carrier, just from anecdotal perspective: I also use eSim only and never had an issue on my P6 Pro. So it appears to be something carrier related.
I remember that I had to activate my eSim, maybe you also have to do this? Did you try out the eSim/your contract before using this phone?

Yes, I tried 3 times with the help of AT&T and we couldn't get it to work. I'm going to return the device for a new replacement to see if that fixes this issue. Thanks for replying.

Before going through the hassle of returning the device for a potential fault - do you have a family member or friend, whose simcard/esim you could try out? That way you can find out if your phone truly has a defect or if its your contract/the specific esim. Of course you can always let them replace your device, but that will take a couple days, maybe there are faster ways to narrow the problem down.

i tried again today at another AT&T corp store and walked out of the store with it working as expected (wait till the end). the person helping did additional research on my issue and discovered the P6P shipped to me "was not activated" with the inserted physical sim (which i removed when i received the device). apparently, AT&T will park (or associate) a new device with a specific number when shipping to you vs. walking in to buy a device on an existing line. nonetheless, i'm going to return the phone because the data connection isn't working consistently; data is on and then after i go to website, data turns off. i'm probably going to send it back to AT&T next week.
Finally got the phone working, but will get an unlocked version later; this one is still going back to ATT.
I'm using an ESIM on AT&t and even originally got the phone My plan was to have a physical TracFone SIM card and my AT&t esim which is exactly what I had on my Pixel 5 and it worked great. Both SIM cards work great... when the other ones not active or inserted. It is impossible to use with both SIM cards like I did on my Pixel 5. Constant signal loss and the majority of the time. No signal at all. But as soon as I deactivate or remove a SIM card it starts working perfect.
I had a problem with provisioning eSim on my TMobile, well technically its sprint still, says tmobile esim but I am on sprint billing. Anyways, you need to maybe try to do it on another WiFi access point or something. I had issues with mine activating over Viasat2 satellite internet. I live in that area, its either LTE or satellite for internet. Had to tether to my work verizon phone to activate it on sprint/tmobile lol. If the connectivity to the esim server is not great, you'll split hairs until it is.

Exactly the same issue/behavior I had with my AT&T P6P on the AT&T network so I returned mine today. I'm contemplating a Fi version to see if it works for my use case.
