I just bought an LG G4 and Skype has an issue with audio. When in a call the audio mutes when the other person is quite or not talking. So if they whisper or talk quietly Skype won't even pick it up. If I have the volume on my phone low/medium I won't hear anything. Even when they speak. If I have it maxed then I can usually hear everything. I use ear buds by the way.
Im having the exact same problem..
I just got this phone two days ago and I've noticed that when I'm in a call on Skype or Hangouts that the incoming audio gets muted every time I speak or when on medium to low volumes. It's become really bothersome because I can't tell whether I'm in call anymore unless the other person speaks. Is there any way to turn this off? The noise suppression and voice clarity options have no affect on this at all. I'm using headphones when in call. Also I should note that this doesn't happen on my old broken phone so it must be something to do with the G4. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What? I dont understand, my software version is v20g-tur-xx, which is in h815tr. Is that from the software?
My Pixel XL is having a problem with the mic and in ear speaker( not sure if it is because i put it in the bathroom the other day and got some water leaked in)
Current status is that when I turn on the phone, the mic works fine( phone call, whatsapp recording and regular recording ) However, after a while all those problems come out again, people just cant hear what I said during a phone call , mic cannot record.
Anyone know how to fix it other than factory reset?
Thanks
rma
Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue. When I'm on a call with the 2 XL, only the bottom speaker fires, and it's pretty low when compared to my original XL. I have to max out the volume and still listen carefully for it to be of use. If anyone here has a 2 XL and an original pixel, could you test this too and report back? Thanks!
P.S. The speakers sound great when using it for music, games, etc.
Bump.... I posted the similar issue on the Google forums without response.
I do a lot of conference calls daily and was excited that the device uses 2 front firing speakers. Was really looking forward to that for conference calls. Come to find out that the phone only uses the bottom speaker for speakerphone. Doesnt really make sense to me since anything else--youtube, google music, etc. takes advantage of both speakers.
Hoping Google will listen to this and turn both speakers on for Speakerphone!!

I'm sure there will be an audio mod that gets developed that enables this feature in the future

This is done because of proximity to the top microphone for feedback prevention. Unlike just listening, conference calls require a microphone.

So new to this topic aka 'issue' but I just realized this also that the top speaker was not firing when I am on speaker phone.
Just to confirm -this is an intended feature - true?
Both speakers to fire when playing music or videos out loud - true?

When playing video or listening to music there is no need for a microphone to be active. When you're in a conference call, the other person has to some how hear you and the phone app turns on your microphone. Because this microphone is so close to one of the speakers, it must be turned off so that sounds coming from it do not feed back to the microphone.

Its intended.
If the top speaker was to fire up as well,
The other party wont be able to hear you properly, since the sound from speaker itself will interfere too much for the mic next to it
Same situation will happen if you do video call. The phone will use top mic instead of bottom, since it assumed to receive your voice better that way

Wouldn't it make more sense for the top speaker to fire when in a speakerphone call then since the bottom speaker is so close to the microphone???

And there are mods backed into certain ROMs at this point. Problem is audio feedback and call distortion. It's not a fully functional mod at this point. Causes more harm than good.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just a little confused how this happen.
I am thinking, if you hold the phone up to your ear, the mic is located at the bottom, not top.
And if there is a mic at the top, during speaker call we should be able to turn that off.
What says you on this theory?
Has anyone else noticed that while you're on a phone call. If you place the caller on speakerphone... The callers voice sounds at what you might expect to be 30%-50% of the volume (even after raising speakerphone volume to 100%), the callers voice volume on speakerphone just doesn't sound loud at all, not even at 100% volume.
Is there a fix for this?
Is Google aware?
If anyone can share their thoughts about this, please do.
Had this exact same thought. Haven't yet tested on the November update.

It's the same on Nov. I rooted and installed Viper. Enabled xLoud on Phone Speaker and it's better. Can't understand why Google didn't enable both speakers for phone calls, like they did for media.
It's probably because only the bottom speaker is firing so it's literally half the volume you would expect.

I have the same problem with volume on speaker phone calls. I don't like the idea of a new driver (Viper) that requires root.
Are there any other solutions?
Bump for an issue I've noticed now that i use the speakerphone
Title says it all really. For example when i download a notification sound from the Zedge app and previewing it in there, the sound plays on both speakers (earpiece and bottom firing) but when a new SMS or E-mail comes in, that sound is only played through the bottom firing speaker. Anybody else experiencing this? It damn annoying because it's not as loud and I am more likely to miss that notification. Hopefully Google is aware and will fix it.
This was shared on the 3a forum. It seems the Pixel 3/2 have complaints on this topic with only bottom speaker working on calls. Could be on notifications, also?

No. Phone calls are fine. As a matter of fact, they sound fantastic. Probably because VoLTE with this phone works on my carrier. My issue is notifications. The sound when a new SMS, E-mail (via GMail) or Facebook messenger, among others. only comes through the bottom speaker instead than both. Thus they are not as loud as they should be. I am not having the issue in the forum you pointed me to. thanks for trying to help either way =)
Thanks for reporting back. I'll definitely be watching for this but glad to "hear" the call volume is good although I'm probably not going to have HD calling even though my AT&T PP account shows VoLTE is provisioned. Maybe I can test it out when the 3a comes by calling our iPhone SE as no one I call has VoLTE. Can you tell if call volume coming out of the bottom speaker only or both speakers?
