Hello!
See the thing is that I used to be a worshiper of Nokia, until the doctors announced the inescapable soon to be natural death of Symbian. And now having seen the Android Beauty I feel like I have landed on Mars.
I know nothing about the Android devices but am planing to own an xperia Play in the coming days.
I am mostly interested in organizing life through the use of phone (like Reminders, Memos, Tasks, Calenders etc.), browsing Internet, and using applications (like FaceBook, Twitter, and several others) and user interface experience (I will mention what I mean by that).
1. Now as far as the organization stuff is concerned I have been told that Play hasn't got either one of them, but all can be download easily and in good quality. And I am okay with this issue. BUT CONFIRM IF THIS IS AS SIMPLE AS IT SEEMS?
2. Now about the Internet, well this is the main reason of opting for Play, instead of other Sony Ericsson or HTC or Samsung phones. I have read that the phone has got quality web browsing with 4-inch screen. Websites load quite fast comparred to even other SE phones. KINDLY CONFIRM IF THIS IS TRUE AT YOUR END?
3. I have no idea how good this third requirement is served up by SE Play. And that is the reason for this thread. PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS WITH EXTENSIVE DETAIL AS IF YOU WERE EXPLAINING TO A NEWBORN BABY. BECAUSE I HAVE SEARCHED SEVERAL FORUMS REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND ALL I HAVE GOTTEN SO FAR IS CONFUSION.
So here is the issue, CAN PLAY OR ANDROID (I DON'T KNOW WHICH TO MENTION) DOWNLOAD APPLICATIONS STRAIGHT TO SD, WITHOUT ANY HACK OR METHOD THAT GOES AGAINST THE WARRANTY CONDITIONS? SOME SAY IT CAN SOME SAY IT CAN'T BUT OTHER ANDROIDS CAN SOME SAY IT CAN'T BUT ONCE IT HAS BEEN INSTALLED THEN YOU CAN MOVE IT SOME SAY YOU CAN USING ROM (WHAT THE .... IS ROM, IS IT THE SAME READ-ONLY-MEMORY); WHICH IS IT?
AGAIN PLEASE AN XPERIA PLAY USER EXPLAIN BECAUSE THAT IS THE PHONE I AM GOING TO OWN.
ASSUMING THAT NO MATTER WHAT APPLICATIONS CAN'T BE MOVED TO SD, THEN DO YOU COMMON USERS FEEL THAT 400 MB IS GOOD ENOUGH?
4. Now the user interface, by this I mean the simplicity like we used to have in Nokia or we have in iOS. Like no techie stuff no booting, rooting, rebooting, rerooting etc. No need to dig into the files instead the phone. Also, no crashes, no bugs etc. Becasue I have also been told that Android is still in its developing stages and has problems of its own?
5. And now your opinion, DO YOU THINK PLAY IS WORTH BUYING? I mean I am not much into gaming as much I am into the things mentioned above. Although gaming seems an extra appeal to me. But from the user experience point of view would you recommend this phone.
Thanks for at least reading even if you have no solution.
Enough with the caps. No one's going to want to respond to you when you do that.
1) Yes, built-in calendar, rest can be downloaded.
2) Web browsing's only as good as your connection. Not a problem here.
3) There's a small hack but it doesn't void your warrantee or anything like that. Unless you install a ton of apps and games, 400MB internal should be enough for the average user.
4) Good luck finding any operating system out there that doesn't boot, has no bugs and has no crashes.
5) If you aren't a hardcore gamer or really enjoy emulating the classics, you could probably find a phone better suited towards your uses.

Hello!
Okay thanks for the reply and sorry about the CAPS.
Just 1 more things.
About the sd issue, after that hack does the phone run fine or have there been any issues. Also are there any hopes of this service to be included in the coming updates, I mean if you have heard so somewhere.
Thanks.
I'll confirm that Xperia play is a Sony ericsson phone.

It's not a hack, google had been evolving the move to SD function over the last few versions of the OS. In froyo only the actuall apps .apk could be moved to the SD card. But with the launch of gingerbread, google announed you could also move the apps .libs too. This will not slow your phone down or void your warrenty as its a native feature in the OS
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
Only thing to think about is if a package has widgets or has a service as part of it, putting the app on the SD card will break them.
@Jack Shepard: the wonderful thing about android is you can change and tailor any of the features you are concerned with to your liking. Claenders, memos, web browsing; even the ui, all without breaking any warrenties or using any hacks. Android comes with everything that you asked for already built in and if you don't like the layout or how it behaves, you simply download a different one to replace it. I can't even begin to count how many different Calender/memo apps there are in the market along with different keyboards, Widgets, etc... even if you don't like the stock web browser there are four others I could list just straight off the top of my head.
As far as web browsing in general, the chipset in the xperia play has hardware flash support so websites with a lot of flash will render a lot quicker then older phones.
As far as downloading apps to your sd card, it really is as simple as downloading it from the market. However keep in mind that the developer the makes the app has to include sd card support. Its much more comman place then it was a year ago but you still may run into an app or two that don't.
And finally yes, if you enjoy gaming on your phone and want to be able to enjoy something other then angry birds, you definately want to check out the play
Fix your grammer bro and use the search.
P.s. Why are you so angry?
Why would you consider the play if your not much of a gamer...that's the crowd this phone is tailored to. Android is highly customizable, you can change almost anything to match your needs. If you are unwillingly to spend extra time setting up your phone, reading and playing around with stuff... Then don't get android. Stick with the ios.

I read an article about Blood and Glory and went to the market to search for it. I would not show up. I went back to the article and it had one of those barcode things, I scanned it and found the game. I downloaded it then realized it was like 37 megs but decided what the heck and let it finish. I noticed at the top it had a black bar that said the app was not compatible with my deivce. I tried it anyway when it finished and it actually plays very nice. Great graphics and runs smooth.
Now why would they say its not compatible but it seems to run fine. Are there other apps/games out there that I/we may be missing out on that will actually work on our phones? Just wondering if anyone has tried it to confirm that it also runs fine on their phones.
Jim Weda
If it says that its not compatible, how come the market let you download it? Or did you sideload...
Sent from my E10i using XDA App
When I scanned the barcode at the website I found the article at it gave me the option to open in browser. It took me to the Market. Here's the link if you want to see if it takes you there also. First try to do a search on your phone and see if it shows up. If not, scan the barcode at this website or if you want just go to this link for the market.
Barcode: http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/1...ng-blood-glory-is-infinity-blade-for-android/
Direct Market Link: https://market.android.com/details?...51bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5nbHUuZ2xhZGlhdG9yX25yIl0.
I did just do a search on the Market using a web browser on my computer and it did show up but I on my phone when I saw this app.
Either way, when you get to the app page at the Market it says "This app is incompatible with all of your devices." At least it does on my Epic 4G. Give it a shot and see what it does on your phone or computer. On my phone I just hit download without reading anything because I saw the video on the resourced website. It started downloading. See if you can download it on your phone and see what happens. It should download if it did on mine. I can even take a pic of my phone to show that it is on there and I can load the app.
I've never tried downloading an up that says its not compatible with my phone. Maybe you can download it but it just won't work but for some reason this huge app does work on my phone. Let me know your results.
Jim
Doesn't show up on market search for me. The direct market link you provided works but it will not allow me to download it. I tried loading the page with wifi both on and off, though I haven't tried pushing it from the desktop site.
Looks pretty awesome btw!
Did you try using using the Barcode Scanner, choose "open browser" and then just click the download button right away?
This is the scanner app I used: https://market.android.com/details?...mNvbS5nb29nbGUuenhpbmcuY2xpZW50LmFuZHJvaWQiXQ..
after the scanner picked up the code I saw the open browser option and it let me download it.
I'm really just trying to understand why I was able to download it but other people can't. I'm going to try it again but try it on the one that is not [R] and will post back here.
Jim
I tried doing the same thing with the one that is less gruesome or bloody I guess and it won't let me download that one. This is really weird. Anyone know of any other apps that should not be compatible with the Epic 4G. I'd like to try and see if I can download any of those as well.
Also, is there a way I can upload a small video to show that it does work on my phone. I will do a short video with no cuts or breaks and show the phone itself, go into the system info to show I'm running the new GB 2.3.5 update and click on the Blood and Glory app and show that it play fine.
I just tried, no go. Looks l like a good game though.

dtruth313, would mind telling me why your Epic is not running the same update as the one pushed to us? I've been pushed EI22, 2.3.5 but yours is EG22, 2.3.4. Rooted or just a better update. With the Sprint logo I'm guessing you work there. My udate did a great job fixing my phone after constant headaches and pretty much a worthless since Aug 2011. Had a couple lock ups and minor reboots/shutdown but what seems to be cosistent cache build up every 2-4 hours and anywhere from 1 mg to 10 mg roughly which I have to wipe clean manually. I am not roote and don't like task killers. Been doing that since the update and can't pinpoint it to any one particular thing.
I started with clean phone since update and was adding one or two apps at a time to see if that was the culprit but it doesn't seem to be the case. Haven't heard of anyone else colpaining about . Any ideas of what might be causing that? Any help would be appreciated. Maybe I should create a thead to see if mine is an isolated case since all three phone I went through on {royo were total nightmares. Gingerbread is the only reason I'm still considering sticking around with Sprint a little longer.
Sorry to go off track but hey, I strted this thread. =)
Jim Weda
jimweda I am running the same update. ei22 gb 2.3.5. I apologize my signature is wrong I have not update it. But I have just started saw it in my market saying not compatible with device. Also it starts to freezes and now after I post it is no longer in the market.
I didn't really play the game, I didn't run into this incompatibility thing you all are. I played the game, it ran fine for the most part. Froze and Crashed one time.
Just played it again, ran fine. Looks pretty great, seems pretty repetitive.
What's with the Glu game starting up and running for no reason? Its creepy I hate any program that thinks it can just start up. I liked Gun Bros but it really pissed me off & the people at Glu never answer emails
Sent from the Drivers Seat of my Suby txting and Driving doing 100MPH+ in a school zone! Ha.
I downloaded the game from the market. I use chainfire 3d so that's maybe why I was able to download it.
I sideloaded it. (free game on market) got it to install, and it works great. somewhat fun....got boring real quick. it also gave me the not compatible in the market. I can't find a reason for it to be not compatible at all....maybe rooted rom? (cleanGB)
Here is an easier way lol to get it. here i found the APK for it. just use file manager to install it after putting it in ur SD card. Thank me if i helped you

Dammit...I guess this would've worked before MegaUpload got nailed and FileSonic flipped the f*** out and cancelled any file-sharing ability.
I even tried nabbing this game from Getjar. It also seems to think my Epic 4G is incompatible. The thing I don't understand is that I've been able to download and play this game before. Why would it end up being "incompatible" out of the blue?
I have it running it perfectly on my epic (cm7 and cm9)..you have to download the game from an online site..go to google..look up the current version in the market and google search it...the game runs perfectly finebut it constantly gets updates..whenever the game gets an update, you can't play the game..you are forced to update it in the market...which is impossible so I have to constantly play on airplane mode or google search for an updated version...the game is ok but really repetitive.
p.s. google search the name of "the game", the version and add "apk" at the end....or go to "4shared.com" and look it up
I just downloaded the apk, and then it played fine.... until it said I need to update it (which I couldnt)
not compatible with device
I get not compatible with device when i access the market via phone or computer. So I downloaded the apk from a file share and place it on my sd card via usb and computer. I then installed the game and all is good
Available in the Amazon App store!
I downloaded this game yesterday from the Amazon App store and it works! No messages of incompatibility!
Hello,

I have a game called contract killer zombie or something like that, o n my SGS 2, and now i have a sony s1 tablet, where i also installed the game, but i don't want to play all the 60 missions i've already played on the SGS2... WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!
I'm running the stock Jelly Bean ROM from AT&T on my SGH-I747. It's rooted, with an lower DPI setting, but is otherwise unaltered.
The 'Best games of 2012" and such have really shown that a lot of apps are incompatible with my phone. Yesterday I opened up the "Top games of 2012" section in Play, and it only listed 1 game. I'm assuming this had to do with the rest in the list being hidden due to incompatibility.
For an example, the games listed as the "Best of 2012" only shows "Naught" on my phone. All the rest (THE BARD'S TALE, NUN ATTACK, GRANNY SMITH, ZOOKEEPER BATTLE, DEVIL'S ATTORNEY, STRIKEFLEET OMEGA, NEED FOR SPEED: MOST WANTED, SHADOWGUN: DEADZONE, FUNKY SMUGGLERS, HAMLET, and SUBWAY SURFERS) are marked as incompatible.
I have to believe this is something wrong with the way the market is ID'ing my phone. Can anyone help me solve this?

Click the the little plus next to where it says it incompatible. The play store might think you're in a different country where the app can't be sold.

Just tossing this in, but my i747m shows as compatible with that game.
If you have changed your DPI setting, then it can affect the compatibility of the apps in the Play Store. Change it back to stock, reboot, clear data for play store, and try again.
Damnit. But I like my DPI settings! Is there no way to trick the market to not take the DPI settings into consideration?

Not that I know of, but once you download the apps you want, you can change it back. I also know that there are some very specific steps you can take to change the DPI AFTER the Play Store checks it and it won't do this. I'll see if I can dig them up. (I think it was in AOKP when trying to change DPI, it would give you steps).
Switch to a paranoid android ROM and you can change your DPI and not have that problem. Other than that, you have to fix your DPI for it to work.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
As an update, I know the steps are shown when you change DPI in the AOKP settings. Don't feel like flashing it just to find them though so maybe someone can give them to you who already has it installed?

Idk if it would help, but in the skyrocket forums we have a multi-dpi play store.
Maybe someone here could look into creating one as well.
I know that doesn't help much, b/c you shouldn't flash things for other devices.. but just a thought!
Here is a thread I found in the S2 forums (from a google search):

Searching for "S3" results in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=119262249
There are a couple users stating that it does work for their S3's
You could make a backup, and try it out.
If it doesn't work, just restore
I switched my DPI back to 320, and cleared the data on the Play app, and all is well now. I wish there was a way to trick the market without having to install a custom ROM.
Oh well. Thanks for your help everyone!
So I got this high-tech new phone, hear of Snapdragon studios, and how some games are tailored to it, then hear about an awesome(questionable) fantasy game... find it... and the Play Store won't let me install, saying its not compatible... The store page itself says "REQUIRES Snapdragon based device with an Adreno 320 or higher class GPU" which we have with the LG Optimus G.
Anyone else have this issue?

I'm not rooted. Yet. I do plan on it. But I haven't tinkered with this device at all yet, so I should be okay? I am positive though that being rooted would not effect the ability for me/anyone to install a game from the market.
