My Nexus 5x got the bootloop yesterday, can't fix it by myself. - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
My Nexus 5x 16 GB (LG H791 ) got the bootloop, i need to fix my phone !
Soo yesterday was a very hot day.
I ran around a bit outside and took a lot of pictures. But it was very hot outside. Whenever I take pictures, HDR has to be rendered first, it consumes a lot of power and I can imagine that the Nexus 5x gets hot. When I put it in my pocket, it still worked. After I got it out again, the screen was completely black and it could not boot anymore. It was just black, nothing worked.
Later, I went home to look at the Nexus 5x.
I looked at whether it was possible to get into fastmode, dloadmode and recoverymode, but the screen remained black.
I've fixed other cell phones before, but with the Nexus 5x, I still have some little hopes.
I opened the nexus and cleaned it completely with 100% alcohol. Every corner and every connector.
After cleaning I switched it on again and suddenly it started again.
But it only showed the colorful google animation and it restarted after a short time and it repeated itself endlessly.
From there I noticed that it is the well-known bootloop problem.
I knew before that it will eventually come to this problem, so I unlocked my OEM (Bootloader) about 1 year ago :good: !
So I googled and there seem to be some fixes !?
First of all, I tried THIS and it didn't help
I tried also from this solution the TWRP recovery. Jeah i got in to the TWRP recovery and installed the EX4_10_5X.zip, but with some errors. The Nexus is still repeating... BUT!! The google logo animation was stuck, no animation!
Soo I googled more and more and saw a new solution!
THIS! So i did all 4 stepts expect step 1, because it's already unlocked.
JEAH! My Nexus 5x seems to be ok again ! After I set everything up, the Nexus 5x has frozen and crashed ! Man damn!! I was sooo happy..
Then i tried to flash the latest factory image from https://developers.google.com/android/images?hl=en#bullhead
I ran the "flash-all.bat", got no problems the first time, but the Nexus is still bootlooping :/
So i flashed it again with a factory image from 8.1.0 (OPM1.171019.011, Dec 2017).
But this time the Nexus has freezed and turned off!
It restarted by itself, but there was no Google logo anymore. It restarted each time after the message came that the Nexus is unlocked.
If I go into fast mode, it freezes after a short time, it is not possible to flash an image on it, because after a "fastboot reboot-bootloader" command, the Nexus just stops responding, so I have to disconnect the battery.
If I reconnect the battery immediately, the screen will still be black.
So I always have to wait 3 minutes until I can connect the battery again. This is exactly as with a USB-C cable.
I got one time a crash or greenscreen !
I saw a thread about (BLOD).
I downloaded the latest fix files. After i got really quick into the fastboot mode, i flashed this two things and jeah i got my google logo back, but it still freezes and it won't turn on, only if I reconnect the battery after some minutes.
Now my problems:
No Google logo (Rare)
It stays off after it freezes
It's hard and randomly that I get into the recovery mode with TWRP. If I make it, the nexus freezes again
I can not flash an image because the screen stays black every time I restart
I can't fix it, i need your help ! Pls
Community ? Can you help me ?

@MrClean24, I'd say goodbye: even if you succeed to make it run with sleeping cores, it's slow and wont be stable.

That was my first idea, but i don't wan't to use any money for this phone
If it can't be fixed, then i will buy a Pixel 3a phone.

@MrClean24, good idea (I'm not favouring bin generally, but you wont fix damaged hardware by software plasters durably)

Jeah its a hardware problem :/ I think mine can't be fixed anymore, but thanks

[Q] My Nexus 7 doesn't turn on or charge

Hello guys.
I wanna start saying that i found a couple of threads about this issue but none of them was about the 2013 version of this tablet.
Two days ago I was on a plane to London, i turned off my Nexus 7 2013 (the device has at max 3 months and i bought it brand new) that was fully charged.
During the flight I didn't turn it on...when I was at home, approximately 3 hours after, I tried to turn it on without success...tried to recharge it but no response from it...no blinking or steady white light.
Till now I still can't figure out what happened to it considering I just turned it off normally.
I tried all the steps provided by several google official support pages without luck. I also opened the back cover too see if some connectors were not properly attached; no problems there.
I am really starting to think that something broke.
My question would be: I bought it directly from Amazon and I was wondering if it's a problem that I rooted it and I installed a custom rom on it. Is it possible that sending it back will result in having it back myself without any kind of repair attempt?
Thanks to everyone will give this some time
Have you happened to try booting it into fastboot regardless of it not actually starting up? It's a long shot but you could try it.
Also if Amazon can't turn it on either it shouldn't be a problem.

By fastboot you mean the procedure where you have to press volume down + power button?
Anyways i kinda tried everything, it just doesn't respond.
Altough what I noticed just yesterday was that if I plug it to the charger it gets warm on the back, upper part meaning that the power still goes through...
But thinking that this is something related to the battery doesn't feel right...it was fully charged when I turned it off the last time.
I think i should give it back with RMA...It feels like the only choice i have.

My worst Nightmare ...Lg G4 DEAD ?

So its Saturday midnight and I m in my buddys house and we were talking and the same time i m on instagram and i scrall around ...when suddenly my G4 freezes and shuts down ...I say wtf and i just power it on (my battery was at around 42)...it starts to boot and suddenly begins to optimize apps ...okkkk i say let it finish ...when the optimization stops and its about to launch my homescreen suddenly blue screen and its powering off...I freaked out!!! i boot into recovery and wiped dalvik and cache...i reboot ....and starts again to optimize the apps ...i say ok everything is good then suddenly it dies again ....i say WTF !!! and i reboot into recovery to wipe everything and do a fresh intall of the Genisys 4.8 rom cause i did a dirty a couple days ago ...as soon as i wipe everything (i have sd and i keep everything there(roms gapps etc...))TWRP freezes and doens do anything after a while it dies again ...I reboot again into recovery to install the rom but when i swipe to flash it just freeze ..i retried it almost 10 times ...nothing it just not gonna do it ...as the time was passing i noticed that the duration between booting itno recovery and freezing was getting smaller and smaller ...so i left my buddys house to go home and flash the kdz (H81520i_00_0927) i put my phone into download mode i open lgup and i do the proper steps (choose the kdz ...closed the lgup ...and reopened it) so i start to refubrish my phone ...when the peosedure was about in 28-30 % my phone died ...I start cursing around ...i put it on the original charger to charge for an hour and a little more ...and i retry ...when the procedure was at 90%(when the phone starts to reboot) without any problems so far ...it starts to reboot but it never boot it just died again ...i pulled out the battery because it was the only way to make sure it was totally closed ...so i power it on and it passes the first lg logo power by android and the unlock bootloader stuff ..and it shows me the android robot with he's stomach working and suddenly it dies again....SO PLZ TELL ME WHATS WRONG WITH MY G4 ?
I want to add some information...
My model never had any bootloops
Its not from the production number with the famous problem
I have dig this particular problem to find if my device was one of them before i unlock the bootloader
For about 3 months i use to charge my g4 through a fast charge cable and though an OEM powerbank
Between a couple of reboots and throught the last time i tried to flash the KDZ my screen flicker the first time was random pixels and the last time it was horizontally the half ....
My first thought was that the battery died ...but when i saw the screen i wasn't sure...
The phone was bought 10 months ago normaly would have 2 months of warranty but with unlocked bootloader thats history ...
Dude, I believe you're having a battery or a hardware issue. Doesn't look like a bad rom installation or anything software related. I'd suggest you take it to LG Support.
Try to successfully pass the original KDZ prior going to LG Support...
i would say bootloop issue.
its the ILAPO issue bro. No more words.
Guys thank you so much for your replies ...I took it to a nearby tech shop that have services for smartphones and the found out that actually its a motherboard problem sometimes its working sometimes not ...we tried a new battery but it dint change anything ....Once again thank you for your replies

I think this is worse than the ILAPO.
I had the ILAPO and now i'm facing this same issue. The unique way to turn it on is putting it on the fridge 10 minutes but it takes 1 min to die again!

Google Nexus 5X LG-H791 Bootstuck

Hi,
I got an issue last night with my Nexus 5X, he suddenly stopped without the possibility of restarting it.
The battery was 80% full and i never installed any rom on the phone.
It's not a bootloop because when i press power, google screen appears for 5-10 seconds then the phone shutdown again.
I tried to press power + volume -, but no option in the menu works.
I don't know what to do but to get in contact with the seller to make the warranty works, i get pissed for all the data on it :'(
Sorry for my bad english, it's not my mother tongue :crying:

I am having the same issue as you, I even managed to flash the stock 7.1.2 and it worked for 10 minutes then it froze and went back to not working at all.
I have no idea how to fix this and I am out of warranty.
i got issue 15 minutes ago too, dont know why it stopped.
i suffing web and suddenly it turn off screen.
i do all thing i can but nothing work:crying::crying:
my devices is Google nexus LG H790
Mine died on me a couple months ago in this same way. I do believe this is the bootloop or hardware failure that is known for the LG phones at the time. The V10, G4 and Nexus 5X have all been effected by it. When it happened I did some searching online and saw a video of someone putting it in the freezer for a short time to cool the motherboard and it turned on for a limited time. It was long enough for me to back up the stuff I need before it shut off again. I was also able to wipe and factory reset it another time the same way. It's been harder to get it to turn on lately. A better fix I saw (although temporary as well) was taking the motherboard out and using a heat gun to reconnect the solder. That is what I believe the issue is. But I haven't gone that route.
oh my.. it happened to me yesterday, now i see this... i flashed a new recovery and nothing, it passes the google screen to black.
Ill try the freezer thing to see what happens
Hello,
Thank you all for your answers & testimony ^^ , how long did you put it in the freezer?
This manipulation can kill the warranty ?

i had it like 20 miutes and it worked a few minutes, now im trying longer...
as for the warranty, i dont think it has anything to do... its like when u go to the mountains or if u live i a really cold country
This is how my phone acted before it eventually boot looped. Letting it sit in the freezer for a while would get it to go into the recovery menu, but it would not enter recovery or boot. The only way I got it to actually boot was using a hair dryer on the motherboard. But it immediately froze once unlocked. It also bootlooped. I got it to boot for a long period only by using a heat gun on the motherboard. Second time around I used a higher setting and it acted normal for 9 hours. But then it rebooted on its own and eventually bootlooped again.
A video In Spanish, but good walk through and you can just follow the video with subtitles.

I only put it in there for maybe 5 to 10 minutes. The longer it's in there the more condensation builds up on it. This is the video I watched that gave me the idea. He talks about it in the beginning. So I just tried it.

EDIT: I see the post above me has the same video.

Nexus 5x died with no warning

Been using my 5x for 18 months or so, standard Android 7.1, etc. Pulled it out of my pocket a couple hours ago and it is totally dead! Had about 75% battery when last used.
I'm unable to get any response out of it, no charging indicator, power + volume keys doesn't work. Just totally dead.
Any ideas? Will Google replace it for a fee? I'm on a trip for another few days and will really miss it -- hope I don't need it for something important.

Same happened to me while ago. But still no luck with this. To fix I believe I need access to boot menu which I couldn't
Update: For some reason, I was able to get into the initial screen that you get by holding power and volume down. However, none of the three options work from there. All I get is a Google logo for several second and return to darkness.

my nexus 5x is going to die . i opdate it too android 8 and work with telegram . then it turn off and is not turn on . after 1 day when press power key the notification light is turn on. i cant go to recovery or downloaD mod . please help me
Mine did this exact thing and it was the bootloop problem, though it didn't bootloop. It acted like yours did.
Your best hope if you're going on a trip soon, is try the method that turns off the big cores. If you don't have an unlocked bootloader, try putting it in the freezer or an ice bath, and maybe it'll boot long enough to unlock the bootloader. Mine would get into recovery using that method so I could wipe the cache and adb the OTA. It also tried to boot longer, but never would boot.
All the phones act differently and you may get lucky.
Mine never booted until I used a hairdryer on the motherboard. But it immediately froze after booting. Then actually did start bootlooping. Only using a heatgun got it to boot where I could pull my data off of it. But it died relatively quickly. Then I got it to act normal for 9 hours after using a heatgun at higher temp. After that I could heatgun it again and get it to boot, but it would very quickly die again. The fix that turns off the big cores was not out then, so I don't know if it would have fixed it.

I was on a trip when it happened, but miraculously survived without access to Google Maps, SMS, FB, etc. Returning home, I was very impressed with Google support. I put in for a callback on my home phone, received a call in less than a minute, and they are replacing my phone (with a refurb) free as a "warranty extension" (phone about 18 mos. old). So I should be back in business in a couple days. In the meantime, I'm finding it kinda liberating to not have to be carrying the phone around, remembering to put it on the charger, etc.

Yeah, they replaced mine at 14 or 15 months in. By then it was such an issue that the tech guy didn't even bother making me do all the troubleshooting steps before he said he was handing me off to the guy to set up the replacement.
Mine just did this to me. It's my second 5X and this time nearly 6 months elapsed before it died so I couldn't use the Amazon return process (my first one started bootlooping in less than 2 weeks).
Had the phone 100% charged, slipped it into my pocket, took it out during lunch and it refused to boot. Can't even get into recovery.
I'll put it into my freezer tonight to see if I can at least get it to boot long enough for me to retrieve a few photos that I hadn't backed up in the cloud.
I wonder if my frequent use of the phone as a car GPS contributed to this. My friend's 5X has not crapped out on him since he bought it in 2015...
Google Pixel, here I come!
Edit: Freezer worked, and in fact the phone is still alive, but I'm not cancelling my Pixel order regardless

1 hour. It works as usual. Hasn't died since I took it out, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
hey guys - I'm troubleshooting this device for a lady friend - this exact thing just happened to her haha she's running all stock everything, I was able to get to the default bootloader/choose recovery etc screen but when I selected recovery, like you all, it just bootlooped a couple times, then played the entire boot animation, then died again...
if I do this freezer thing, can the wug's toolkit aid me in flashing some custom stuff to make it a little easier to mess around with? i.e. put on kernel adiutor and turn off the big cores like someone mentioned?? anyone know the thread where I could root purely from bootloader screen + computer? the toolkit seems to require normal access to the OS to function, right?
thanks in advance

I believe you should be able to get the phone to stay alive long enough to do everything you mentioned, after a freezer treatment.
In my case, the phone has actually stayed alive continuously after the freezer treatment but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Same things happened to my phone...it was 50% charged and all of sudden... The phone went off...still trying to find out....
Just happened to me.
Phone died while in standby on my desk, black screen and no luck booting or anything. I was assuming the worst, it's been only 1 year since i bought it.
I dig out my screwdrivers kit, removed the back cover and disconnected the battery. After a few minutes i reconnected it and the phone was alive and kickin' again. No bootlop whatsoever.
Now it's working fine, i hope it keep doing that for long time. @machoman1337 yours is still fine or died again?
Thanks

Dead P2

Tried to calibrate battery. During the night, I think battery went down to 0%, and now I am unable do charge the phone. It's stuck at Lenovo logo. When I plug in charger, nothing happends. No LED indicating that phone is charging. When I entered fastboot and press shut down, it shuts down. Then I again, plug in charger, red LED blinks for a second and it again shows Lenovo logo. Tried also connecting it to PC, no result. Can't enter the TWRP either.
Any ideas?
Edit:
Looks like I lost TWRP and rom, I have no idea what has happend. Now I cant install TWRP, I mean it shows proper installation but when I do fastboot reboot recovery - phone doesnt respond. The same with trying to flash stock rom. It flashes all chunks of rom+recovery, but after trying to reboot - BIG NOTHING.
I have a bad feeling that internal memory of my P2 had failed. It looks like my 5 yr journey with P2 has come to an end.
what about “fastboot boot twrp*.img” command? Is it getting stuck at Lenovo logo as well?

Yap, one day I was happily using new Android 13, everything was ok. For an almost 5yo phone - battery was ok I think. I managed one whole day, and in the evening I ususally had 20%. Next morning it died. Now I am waiting for a battery to discharge completely and I will try again to flash TWRP or stock rom. But I am not giving much hope.
Theoreticaly on adb says ok after flashing twrp. But when I try to enter twrp, vol+-, it gives me black screen, phone switches off.

I have a P2 with a six year old battery that I have not replaced. I manage to get a day of use, but I should probably transfer important files right away.

I'll try one more method before I annouce my P2 as a dead phone. Its really sad as I looked around and am confuse what to choose next. I have an opportunity to buy another P2 in a great condition but on the other hand it will be still a 5yo phone. I saw it. It still runs android 7 as the owner did not have the knowledge to unlock bootloader. I also have Moto z3play in my drawer, with broken screen, I have a friend to help me replace it. Any advices welcome.

Really old phones might have unlocking problems. So that's something to be aware of.
I think you should buy a newer phone. Go for Motorola and low-budget since they only receive one OS upgrade with only a tiny chance of ROMs in the future.
I am back . I bought p2 with faulty screen and switched my screen to p2 with good mainboard. Now I wait for OEM unlock and I am alive
Great news, man. P2 will outlive us all !
