Hello to all,
3 days ago, I purchased a brand new Galaxy S9. Fantastic display and design, performance, very smooth, but:
I updated my S9 to Pie (May security Patch) and It is warm and sometimes hot (when I use it for 15/20 mins for normal task like WhatsApp or seeing a video on YT) and I can do only 3.3/4 hrs of screen on time.. it is very low, I have to charge it twice a day..
Another question:
There is a Google Camera with Portrait Mode, HDR+ and, if possibile, Night mode working for Galaxy S9 Exynos version? I've searched on all sites including XDA and I found some APK's, but none of these working..
Someone have the same problems? How to solve these? Do you advise me to install a custom rom like DevBase or Soldier ROM to get better battery life and no warm up/heat up?
Thanks to all and sorry for my bad english
Have a nice day!!
No one can help me? ;(
White to June security pach and weel done temperature
I have the exynos S9 with may update installed, my phone doesn't get too warm unless I use it heavily or when it's charging. For battery life, I agree, but it's not a big deal for me since I bought a powerbank. Just wait for june update which includes night mode and other improvements, it might fix your issues as well.

Well, now in lebanon the temperature is above 30°C so the phone is warm all the time, if you're living in a country with a similar weather then it's normal.
And yeah, battery life is annoying.

A3 battery charging after nugat installation
I contacted samsung for this problem and they informed me that they will be issuing a patch to alleviate the problem soon, how soon they did not say.
The advise to do nothing...yet

there is an option under maintance->right corner the 3 dots-> Fast charge and deactivate it, there is aswell written why you should do so, when battery get hot while charging...hello? this can not be good for the battery cells.. and with integrated one ....bad idea
My phone is 2 weeks new and battery holds only a day without usage, only display always on feature to get informed, because there is no more informing LED, i adjusted my brightness to auto and 25%... and as i browse today while waiting some around 6 to 9% went away in minutes...normal?

a3 doesnt support fast charge
problem solved
The problem was solved when a patch was released by samsung (last friday) and I applied it to my A3. Now everything is as before. One note however, I think Android 7 consumes more energy than the previous version.
Anyone experiencing this also?
Drain
I've noticed the same thing. Don't know what they fubared but they did.
I had this issue since a while, I thought march update will improve it, but no changes. It's also a little bit worse especially when using 4G.

Battery life gets worse with every update..idk what samsung is doing..
I get better battery life with March update than any other
Here's a screenshot of my battery life after march update, when using 4G.
Mines been perfect with every update untill this one. Not even lasting a day now
Yes, really became noticeable yesterday and I have also noticed that it is "Slow Charging" in vehicle now even though I'm using factory data cable and 2 amp charger. Very frustrating indeed. March update just hit my S8 last week and slow charging since on that one too. This really sucks
For me it's the same?
I don't know, I think I have the same ****ty battery runtime.
Never over 4 hours screen-on-time. Always somewhere around 3-3.8 hours of Screen-on-Time.
BUT they updated the camera, it's now much better, and the new portait option is also good.

Which portrait are u talking about?
I am also experiencing battery drain already, getting around 3hrs SOT @15%, but I dont exactly know if the update is the culprit since I got this phone the month s9 was released. Yet, the drain is more noticeable from March security patch
Is there any way to get rid of this update...its unbearable. Taking hours to charge to full on fast charge original charger. Something is sucking the life out of it. Was perfect before this update.

Even if my battery isn't lasting a day, but fast charging is still at the same speed since day one... Maybe your device has a problem.
Try to remove updates from Device Health Services app from Google in Settings -> Apps. I have o big improvement in battery life of my s9+ snapdragon after doing this. Do not update this app again in Play Store. Its bugged and caused this issue. My mobile runs more snappier e colder and Screen on time e stand by time have big improvements.
Will try this and report back. Thanks

Removed these updates and device is still draining battery.
Please help us Samsung.
After every update, almost always, the phone takes a couple of days to adjust setting, so it working extra hard in the background. Same happens when you factory reset your phone. Give ti a few days to settle in, then re-evaluate for battery drain
I got better battery life after wipe cache via recovery.
Wiping cache didn't improve battery life for me...
My battery drains too fast.. and I disable the features and not play games..
I have this only 2 years..
If I have 15%.. it was going down to 0% so fast..
maybe it was caused because of the new updates?
Try and use it until it turns off and then fully charge it while it's still off do that a few times and see if it gets any better. I spotted something online which suggested this and it helped mine a little

Yeah to be honest mines from April 2018 and I still have to charge it twice a day sometimes but if it goes off at 15% the full charge thing seemed to help. The accu battery app, said my battery around 80% guess there still alot of stuff running in the background not sure what phones expected battery life is but their only covered by 1 year warranty I believe which probably says alot and the s9 exynos is known to be worse than snapdragon chop for battery
These new Samsung devices have the worst battery life around. Every single update it gets worse. This is Samsung forcing you to pay for a new device which will be exactly the same.

I don't think so, my friend's note 8 last a lot longer than my S9. Maybe it's an issue with the S9 itself because the S8 had longer battery life since the beginning.

If you're aware, Samsung flagships get 2 years of major updates, one year of monthly security updates and one year for quarterly security updates, which equals 4 years of updates, and if you add the first year before receiving the first major update, it's 5, similar to iPhones, and since iOS doesn't bring a lot of new things with their updates, it's basically the same thing.
I'm having so much fun using my S9 and I never got bored even after 2 years of use, and now I'm waiting for OneUI2.1 ? It's true that battery life isn't great but my friend's iPhone X is worse than my S9, so it's a normal thing after 2 years of use, at least for 2017/2018 flagships.

Come on mate, I also have my s9 from launch, do you seriously think that 3000 mAh is still at 100% capacity? Clue, it's not. After so many long charge cycles, I'd say it's only around 70-75%, equivalent to 2100-2250mAh. Atleast you still got a fast charger that comes with the phone. I'd rather not complain considering the screen is beautiful.

This is totally a software failure.
I am a beta tester and when the first one came out for android 10 the battery life was like when i first had the phone. Lasted all day long. As they rolled out more and more beta updates it got worse again.
This had been one of the worst devices for battery life ever since they updated it.
Hello everyone. I've just bought a brand new Galaxy S9 few days ago. My first impression is awesome. The device is lightning fast despite having 2-year-old hardware. I am totally amazed how Android evolved over the years. Coming from a Galaxy S7, I am more than satisfied with my new phone. However, battery life is becoming a concern for me, as I get more and more familiar with the device. The problem is, phone only lasts half day, at most. I can only get 2-2,5 hours of SOT which is unacceptable for me. I upgraded from my S7 primarily for better battery life. I use most of the smart features like AOD, High Accuracy Location, Edge Notifications, 2K resolution etc. and no power saving mode. Can someone explain how can I increase my battery life without sacrificing all these features?

Yeah, brand new dual sim exynos version.
Its down to the software i am totally convinced.
Samsung needs to fix this urgently. It has been going on for at least 2 years and still no fix.
My s9+ drains super fast within minutes once it reaches ~25%. And the "best": if I connect the charger then, it wont charge the battery, but drains even faster to 0%!!! I need to restart the phone.
Tried a full wipe, but no changes!
Samsung needs to read this topic and sort out this mess.
S9 had terrible battery from from the launch. It's the only reason why I regret buying the phone. At least I adapted to terrible battery and learned how to use my phone less so it can survive full day of battery life.
2.5-3.5 screen on time with light tasks only and constant battery saving measures is terrible in my opinion.
Then I bought Galaxy Watch and crippled my battery even more when it connects via bluetooth, it drains so fast it became countdown timer

That's what I was trying to say.
When I first got my S9 I was getting only 4 hours of screen on time while my friend was able to get 6-7 hours on her S8 and she was using it for 1 year at the time. Also every tech website mentioned that the S9 was noticeably worse than the S8 when it comes to battery life.
I got used to it though and I'm keeping my S9 until it stops receiving updates at all.
Hello, I got my wife S22 5g, I read about the problems of the first wave from the factory recently, are there still these problems, battery lasts a little, phone frozen, no gps signal, etc.?
She says her battery lasts a day and a bit.
For example, last night he was at work, the phone was removed from charging at 18:00 and today at 09:00 it still has 66%, since he was at work he used the internet a little, so after about 16 hours it has 66 %.
Can I still return it, she says she's happy, should I keep it or return it?
I could wait for s23 but it will be expensive anyway and the first wave will probably be problematic again.
So is it ok now s22 or not?
I have updated to the latest android.
It's OK. You should learn to optimize the performance of Galaxy, which has too many services running. Start by disabling the android update service, as it consumes a lot of power. Stay on the same firmware version until you become proficient and understand how to set up system apps. Don't ask just read.

I'm not happy with my S22. I had a s9+ and the screen separated from the frame so I purchased the S22 because of the trade in value of my S9+. Big mistake. I could have purchased another S9+ for less and it was much better than the S22. Oh well live and learn. Just my opinion.
Other than the android update are there any other recomendations to increase battery life? Also I'd really love to root this phone but it's a US variant.
I disable everything I don't use to try to keep down the battery usage. I'd love to root mine too but I purchased it before I knew the US version can't be rooted. Bummer.
Absolutely not. Don't even bother. In this price range there are so many phones with the exact same or better performance but with miles better battery life. This phone only lasts a day as long as you don't use it at all and let it drain idle.

Size becomes irrelevant when:
a. you have to use a massive battery case
b. you attach a magsafe qi charger that's twice as thick as the phone itself
c. have cables dangling while trying to charge you phone from a non-wireless powerbank
all this to make sure your battery won't die in the middle of the day during moderate use even with having gone through the S22 optimization thread. I knew about the battery issues before buying it as I didn't expect it to be as bad as people were complaining, but they were right and now I'm stuck with it.
I can not return my S22 (base, Exynos), but personally I would glady take the Pixel 7 (same performance, better battery) or Iphone SE 2022 (same battery, miles better performance) or even the Iphone 12 mini. I will be taking route b. and try to find a wireless magsafe powerbank that is as thin as possible and order one of those magsafe rings that I can attach.
