First boot up without connection to google server - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

I was on android q beta and decided to roll back to stable p version. After reboot I found I had to connect to a Google server to finish the initial setup. The problem is I am working in China at the moment and no way to access Google server. I have been using various vpn to assess blocked contents in China before but that's after passing the initial setup. Any idea? I have googled using my laptop with vpn of course on this and all the hacks need the phone to be able to access google server directly.

Pandora outside US

I have the apk, still doesn't work. Is there anyway I can make the app think this phone is in the states?
btw if it matters I'm Canadian.
Use a VPN. Maybe Market enabler might work aswell.
I've never used it so I don't know though
That wouldn't work. Pandora itself checks to make sure you are in the right place, so I don't think market enabler would work.
Also, asking someone to thank you is douchey.

A VPN or some other kind of proxy to the United States would be the only way.
I'm in Canada and can confirm you that Pandora will work if you connect via VPN or proxy... Same thing for Netflix, hulu, mog etc

I use a PPTP VPN service from http://www.strongvpn.com when I am out of the US. It's stable and I can stream Pandora for hours but on occasion I need to reset the connection.

I'm also using strong VPN! Yes the connection is real stable, what I did is I bought their router... now when I connect to the strong vpn router I'm virtually in the us, if I use my regular router I'm here in Canada like I suppose too.

Hey big samm,
I didn't buy their router but actually configured their OpenVPN Lite service on my dd-wrt flashed router. I use the PPTP service on my mobile devices. Don't want to sound like an advert but once you sign up for OpenVPN you can get the PPTP service for just $2 per month. PPTP is flawed with insecurities but serves my temporary needs when on the road...

VPN only need at app start
Also, once you open up Pandora and wait for a couple of seconds you can disconnect from VPN - it only checks for country when it first loads and when you use the the thumbs up and down or try to tweak your stations. Skip works however. I have been trying to find a PPTP app (VPNRoot doesn't work for me: MS-CHAP authentication request denied error) that I can automate to connect to VPN prior to Pandora that works on ICS+. Apparently TOR does this, I just don't want something running all the time using up battery.
transport iturfad
Sorry if this is a stupid assumption or question, if you can get the apk file for pandora is it not possible to edit/modify the apk not to send ip information? Rather than having to install another app to block the ip like VPN?

VPN to improve Netflix like PIA.com on Fire TV possible?

Just wanted to see if anyone could help.
I want to test the streaming of my Uverse Netflix connection through my VPN that I have. I use Private Internet Access and they have a simple android app that you just login and click connect. My theory is that I'll get better Netflix quality using the VPN.
I also believe this would solve people's issue of blacked out games through things like MLB.com apps.
I side loaded the android app last night and put in all of my account details but when I click connect nothing happens. I loaded this through the firetv main application and also tried to launch directly from XBMC app that was running. Neither would work.
I'm rooted currently and have updates blocked, not sure if that will help at all. Does anyone know of a way I can use either a proxy or even better get this app to connect?
I side loaded a few VPN apps on Fire TV but none worked. I had to install the VPN on my router to make it work.
Has anyone had problems with netfix...out of the box I could never connect...unable to...try again error. Ui 104. I rooted before trying to upgrade. And I upgrade to latest firmware 5117........

I'm afraid, Fire TV OS is not particularly receptive to VPN usage however to enjoy VPN on all of your devices I suggest to flash your current router with DD_WRT firmware.
DD-WRT is a free open source project aimed at developing a Linux based firmware solution that removes the restrictions placed on routers by their default programming. Fortunately, it has the option of selecting different VPN configurations like: PPTP, L2TP or OpenVPN and Once configured, users on the network don’t need to enter a log in process when they need to activate the VPN. It just starts automatically, so any device connects automatically and easily, giving you all the benefits of using a reliable VPN service.

I actually tried this and was finally able to get it to work through my router. the problem is that my router is only a 200 megahertz processor so the maximum is about 2 megabits per second which makes Netflix look even worse than normal. Currently on a Linksys WRT54G v2 so I'm taking recommendations on one that can handle PIA.com with full speed.

Need Help WiFi Tethering Vpn Connection on OnePlus 3

I want to first of all apologise if the subject I wish to ask for help on violates any part of XDA's rules and regulations, as it isn't my intention to do so.
I want to ask for help on how I could tether a vpn connection on OnePlus 3 over the phone's mobile hotspot. I'm running Freedom OS 1.5 firmware version, and l've tried using some apps from play store like TetherVPN, TetherNet, ISWAT Tether Unlocker and PdaNet+, but none of them worked.
When I use the above mentioned apps, the connecting device keeps trying to obtain an ip address without success. Also I have tried running some routing scripts on terminal emulator, which I came across from forum searches, but that also was ineffective.
I would really appreciate it if someone could assist me with this. Thanks.

Setup connection to your vpn and connect. Setup hotspot and turn on.

The vpn connection I wish to tether isn't that of the native vpn client which is built in, it's that of a vpn app e.g. openvpn connect.

HTTP Injector can only tether vpn connection created by the app itself, not that of other apps. Besides it's used for modifying http requests, which I'm not familiar with.

VPN Issue with Always On. Request for other VPN users.

I have an issue with the stock VPN where it goes haywire when I use Always-on. Connecting to it without Always-on is fine.
If anyone out there can try Always-on VPN, do you get a DNS failure on all pages?
My VPN is IPSec, wondering if yours works and, what type of VPN it is.
Thanks!

What are you running you VPN server on? I had a similar issue. I also couldn't use my VPN when on 3g/4g had to be on wifi but it worked okay on all my other phones with the same server. I was running my own vpn server on my Unifi security gateway.
My fix was to create a openVPN server. Now always on VPN works perfectly I stay connected 10-12 hours a day no issues

I was running a L2TP server. I bet that's your issue. The OG pixel XL and the Pixel 2 XL were the only 2 devices I have had issues on. Before that with the same server I used my S8 note 8 LG G6 and iPhone 7 all with the same server setup the same way with no issues.
Does pfSense support openVPN? Have you test this with any other devices?

Yes I did. I have several VPN clients. Open VPN (does not work using always on) I also use Windscribe and Unlimited VPN. The always on work with Windscribe, I haven't tried with the Unlimited VPN.

Question P6 or P6 pro connectivity issue with RDP

Is anyone having an issue with rdp clients connecting and then suddenly dropping 5G or LTE on the pixel 6 or pro? Some people on the other Reddit threads are saying Verizon is the issue.
EDIT/UPDATE: I now have done a little more troubleshooting. I took my pixel 6 pro and tried using Chrome remote desktop on 5G and LTE and when I connect it automatically shuts down the radio and turns on the radio again and does this as an endless loop if you're trying to get into Chrome remote desktop.
Then I masked my data by using VPN and on 5G and LTE the same behavior happens when using Chrome remote desktop.
After these failed, then I turned on hotspot with a VPN and VPN tethering and connected my other device with Chrome remote desktop installed. An apple device, connected to my PC that I remoted into.
Before I didn't have to do any of this and could just connect to the RDP client on Verizon with 5G and LTE on my previous pixel device.
I need to bump this.. can anyone with a pixel 6 or pro try using any remote desktop client and verify it works on any isp with 5g or LTE? Does mobile connection disconnect over and over?

I use Remote Desktop and it works fine on LTE/5G on my 6 Pro.
who's your carrier? I remember a carrier in the US was blocking remote desktop port and the only way around it was to use a VPN or to change the port number. If you Google it you'll see the issue (I think it was VZW and any company using their infrastructure).
sidenote, there's a reason why carriers block this port and specifically rdp. it's one of the worst security holes you'll ever create. Create a VPN on your network and login to your PC using this method. Or even TeamViewer is a better option than opening up rdp to the web. Horrible, horrible idea, and it shouldn't be allowed (internal is ok but even then it's not recommended and should always be avoided).

It's interesting that you say that, I've been using every other pixel phone with RDP on Verizon and it was no issue until the pixel 6 pro.

If you can access remote desktop locally then there shouldn't be a difference (unless your Carrier or router is blocking the connection) but....
I've never heard of an app shutting down a mobile connection that is bizarre behavior. Just all I can think of is making sure all your apps and play services are updated That's two different things and your system and play system (also 2 different things, 4 Total). restart your device, also force LTE mode for now in network settings, see if that helps.
when you open Chrome remote desktop on Android when exactly does the mobile connection reset or change?
can you duplicate that every single time? If you can I would reach out to Google and provide then with the bug...
In any event does that happen with just the MS remote desktop app?

I updated my comment while thinking it over ..
does it happen on both remote desktop apps on your Pixel 6? (the network change?) it might not actually be an issue and your problem is most likely Verizon. Tons of threads on VZW official forums about this on their network - again they do it for a good reason but its not all Verizon Customers and good luck getting any help from them (worth to try though)
I just tested Chrome Remote Desktop on my 6 Pro's 4G to my desktop and it's working without a hitch.
