Pandora outside US - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have the apk, still doesn't work. Is there anyway I can make the app think this phone is in the states?
btw if it matters I'm Canadian.

Use a VPN. Maybe Market enabler might work aswell.
I've never used it so I don't know though

That wouldn't work. Pandora itself checks to make sure you are in the right place, so I don't think market enabler would work.
Also, asking someone to thank you is douchey.

A VPN or some other kind of proxy to the United States would be the only way.

I'm in Canada and can confirm you that Pandora will work if you connect via VPN or proxy... Same thing for Netflix, hulu, mog etc

I use a PPTP VPN service from http://www.strongvpn.com when I am out of the US. It's stable and I can stream Pandora for hours but on occasion I need to reset the connection.

I'm also using strong VPN! Yes the connection is real stable, what I did is I bought their router... now when I connect to the strong vpn router I'm virtually in the us, if I use my regular router I'm here in Canada like I suppose too.

Hey big samm,
I didn't buy their router but actually configured their OpenVPN Lite service on my dd-wrt flashed router. I use the PPTP service on my mobile devices. Don't want to sound like an advert but once you sign up for OpenVPN you can get the PPTP service for just $2 per month. PPTP is flawed with insecurities but serves my temporary needs when on the road...

VPN only need at app start
Also, once you open up Pandora and wait for a couple of seconds you can disconnect from VPN - it only checks for country when it first loads and when you use the the thumbs up and down or try to tweak your stations. Skip works however. I have been trying to find a PPTP app (VPNRoot doesn't work for me: MS-CHAP authentication request denied error) that I can automate to connect to VPN prior to Pandora that works on ICS+. Apparently TOR does this, I just don't want something running all the time using up battery.

transport iturfad
Sorry if this is a stupid assumption or question, if you can get the apk file for pandora is it not possible to edit/modify the apk not to send ip information? Rather than having to install another app to block the ip like VPN?

Full settings app? VPN?

Hi,
Great to have a super-cheap Android Tablet now I've got Google apps and Market working, however the standard Amazon settings app leaves out a lot of the goodness, where can I get the 'standard' settings app?
Also has VPN support been removed from the Fire? (1vpn doesn't work) Is it possible to restore it?
I believe its missing tap/tun. At least thats what it tells me when I install OpenVPN.

Cool. I'm in Australia, and due to a locked router I can't get VPN through my home wireless to fool Amazon into thinking I'm in the US. Not sure where to go from here... a cheap USB wireless dongle and set-up an ad-hoc wireless connection with VPN on my PC?

It does work - I've used my iPhone with PPTP (and LPTP), and then enabled hotspot. Turn off location services though, some sites seem to be able to pick your real location if you don't.

Thanks - it should work but apparently android (or at least 2.3 which the kindle is based off) is set to ignore adhoc wireless networks. I know, as I've tried with a USB wireless transmitter on my PC and my laptop's wireless, the Fire doesn't see the networks but my phone, running cyanogenmod, does. There are some files that need modded but I haven't been able to get it working.
If anyone can help in the threads below it would be appreciated

No progress in that thread yet, a couple of people have tried the tun.ko file.
There is another thread in general about VPN: How to access android.net.vpn.SETTINGS?
Both those threads need some Dev's working on them, not just noobs like me in the General forum - VPN is very important for anyone travelling or residing outside the US!!
bump. need VPN
just tried to share my PC's VPN (HMA pro) using connectify.me which makes a wireless hotspot rather than an adhoc network, but for some reason connectify drops out when the VPN is active, dammit.

[Q] wifi help

My note wont connect to my wifi at home. It connects to work and my hotspot just fine. Also every other device including my nexus 7 connect just fine. What could be causing this?
Try a different access point manufacturer. My fried also has a Note 8 and he had the same issue. His router access point was from TimeWarner. He added a Linksys accesspoint and worked just fine.

Do a little more troubleshooting. If it connects to every network except yours, we can confidently say it's your router. Does it even show up on the list of available networks? Be more specific. What kind of router do you have? is it dual band?

I have the 105mbps internet through Comcast so we have their brand gateway (modem/router combined). Basically what happens is the tablet will connect to the network but has no internet access. It shows everything is OK but as soon as you try to load any website it says webpage not available, the play store won't load, etc. But its weird. All devices listed in my signature connect just fine, and so does my smart TV, ps3, and blue ray player, there is literally nothing else that won't connect.
And yes I've tried the basics of booting everything off the network, changing channels on the modem, changing encryption settings and factory resetting the gateway.

The issue of my Galaxy Note 8.0 (3G vesion) is WiFI unstable connectivity.
All of my devices (3 other tablets and 3 other notebooks ) work well with the access point.
but Note 8.0 is just unstable, taking a lot of time to load data for youtube media app, and webpage .
I had tried a different access point manufacturer, but the issue remains.
I had upload some YouTube video ( but voice is using Chinese/Mandarin lagauage)

I've had the same issue with the same Comcast router. Every other device works except for the Note 8.
Just bought a note 8.. also have comcast modem router with phone combo.. same issue. Connects fine but internet wont work. Huge bummer which I think is going to make me return it and get an ipad mini instead.

Why would you gimp your self in to a less capable tablet because your ISP's god-awful router doesn't meet the standard? Seriously, you would be doing your self a HUGE favor by going and getting a real router and dropping that crappy gateway/access point off your monthly bill (you are likely renting that POS from comcast.)

I'm having the same problem with my brand new Netgear router. I have a feeling this problem is similar to the issue the Note 2 wifi has. Unfortunately, on the Note 2 there's a code you can enter on the phone interface that allows you to turn of it's wifi power saver mode (that's what causes the problem on the Note 2). With no phone interface, I'm not sure how to get to that setting on the Note 8. Changing it on my Note 2 made a TON of difference though. On the Note 2 the code is *#0011# in the dialer. Anyone got any ideas?
Same problem here with one of my routers. It works for a second or two then disconnects. The only way to get the Note working was to disable wifi G and N modes on the router, and only use B mode.

VPN Client on the Fire TV

Hi,
I'm in France and trying to set up a VPN client on the Fire TV.
The only decent I've found on the store is VPNroot which won't connect and display a "socket address family" error.
I'm using Boxpn service which works great on my desktop/mobiles.
Anyone succeeded in setting a VPN client on the ftv ?

Not yet. I have tried HMA and vyprVPN the apps crash when connecting to a server. You could do what I did and install DD-WRT on your router, granted your router is compatible. It works great for me and a have everything behind that router protected by the VPN
Yes i'm working on the router side too, but still thinks it'd be great to have the client running on the FTV itself.

I'm afraid, Fire TV OS is not particularly receptive to VPN usage however, if your router supports DD-WRT firmware, it's a good news because DD-WRT has the option of selecting different VPN configurations like: PPTP, L2TP or OpenVPN and Once configured, users on the network don’t need to enter a log in process when they need to activate the VPN. It just starts automatically, so any device connects automatically and easily, giving you all the benefits of using a reliable VPN service.
^^ Macuser just mentioned the tun.ko vpn module got it working. Theres a tun.ko installer by droidvpn in the playstore that some of u guys may want to mess with.

Care to share how you configured the two networks? I'm thinking about doing the same thing, but can't find a reliable guide to do so.
I have two routers - both configured with dd-wrt. I find that when I plug my second router (w/vpn) into the first's LAN port, I can never get a connection to pass through. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

actually, i have one router for my "usefull" network wich is configured as a gateway (you can use your internet box too). The other is configured as a vpn connected client, connected on the first, making a network for devices that need to be connected to the USA. I use purevpn and they have good tutorials for tomato or ddwrt and other kind of routers.
I also have a NAS with two ethernet ports... each connected on a different network, so it can be available from the fire tv and my computer

Thanks for clarifying. I think I got it working on my end by configuring the 2nd router to use the first router's IP address as the gateway and local DNS server. Still not my preferred option (waiting for the PIA android app to function by itself), but it will work for now. Cheers.
wouldnt it be better to just load up DDWRT on a router and configure your vpn from there?

There is a thread on reddit that explains both using the OpenVPN client directly on FireTV or split-routing setup.
Here is the link to use the OpenVPN client natively on FireTV:
reddit.com/r/fireTV/comments/2b4hlh/finally_got_vpn_working/
Here is the link to use OpenVPN on the router and selectively route traffic over the tunnel for the FireTV:

I'm sure you can adapt the instructions to suit dd-wrt. And if you can't, maybe you should switch over to OpenWRT.
P.s. I'm a lurker so I cannot generate links until I've posted 10 times. Maybe a mod can do it, or someone else can repost it, or better yet, transcribe the instructions.

I was able to get a split tunnel up and running on an ASUS RT-N66U router running Merlin Firmware. The VPN in Merlin is basically a port of OpenVPN in the tomato firmware implementation. The first step is to create the VPN tunnel and then you can setup the separate routes. For Private Internet Access (PIA). I used the following instructions to setup the tunnel:
https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/forum/index.php?p=/discussion/110/updated-tomato-setup-for-newer-branches-including-tomatousb/p1
Next I followed the instructions on this page for setting up a separate route for my FireTv. With this configuration my AFTV goes through the VPN tunnel and everything else goes through the normal Wan to my ISP. I followed the following instruction. Look at page 2 of the post for the instructions by WIZIN
http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9311&highlight=split
This is tailored for ASUS routers, but the idea should not be too difficult to implement on and dd-wrt o tomato firmware.
For me this is a much cleaner solution than running something on the AFTV. It starts up and shuts down with the router, so I don' have worry about restarting it when I reboot on the AFTV or it using CPU and memory on the AFTV.
Please help

VPN to improve Netflix like PIA.com on Fire TV possible?

Just wanted to see if anyone could help.
I want to test the streaming of my Uverse Netflix connection through my VPN that I have. I use Private Internet Access and they have a simple android app that you just login and click connect. My theory is that I'll get better Netflix quality using the VPN.
I also believe this would solve people's issue of blacked out games through things like MLB.com apps.
I side loaded the android app last night and put in all of my account details but when I click connect nothing happens. I loaded this through the firetv main application and also tried to launch directly from XBMC app that was running. Neither would work.
I'm rooted currently and have updates blocked, not sure if that will help at all. Does anyone know of a way I can use either a proxy or even better get this app to connect?
I side loaded a few VPN apps on Fire TV but none worked. I had to install the VPN on my router to make it work.
Has anyone had problems with netfix...out of the box I could never connect...unable to...try again error. Ui 104. I rooted before trying to upgrade. And I upgrade to latest firmware 5117........

I'm afraid, Fire TV OS is not particularly receptive to VPN usage however to enjoy VPN on all of your devices I suggest to flash your current router with DD_WRT firmware.
DD-WRT is a free open source project aimed at developing a Linux based firmware solution that removes the restrictions placed on routers by their default programming. Fortunately, it has the option of selecting different VPN configurations like: PPTP, L2TP or OpenVPN and Once configured, users on the network don’t need to enter a log in process when they need to activate the VPN. I actually tried this and was finally able to get it to work through my router. the problem is that my router is only a 200 megahertz processor so the maximum is about 2 megabits per second which makes Netflix look even worse than normal. Currently on a Linksys WRT54G v2 so I'm taking recommendations on one that can handle PIA.com with full speed.

Need Help WiFi Tethering Vpn Connection on OnePlus 3

I want to first of all apologise if the subject I wish to ask for help on violates any part of XDA's rules and regulations, as it isn't my intention to do so.
I want to ask for help on how I could tether a vpn connection on OnePlus 3 over the phone's mobile hotspot. I'm running Freedom OS 1.5 firmware version, and l've tried using some apps from play store like TetherVPN, TetherNet, ISWAT Tether Unlocker and PdaNet+, but none of them worked.
When I use the above mentioned apps, the connecting device keeps trying to obtain an ip address without success. Also I have tried running some routing scripts on terminal emulator, which I came across from forum searches, but that also was ineffective.
I would really appreciate it if someone could assist me with this. Thanks.
