How-To Root PX5 HU with Android 9.0!
I had a little time and scripted a few files to make it a little easier to root!
Step by Step:
1. Download and Install "Joying Extra Tools" apk to HU, run and click on the button "Enable/Disable adb over WiFi" and "Enable" it.

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. Reboot your HU!
You can do this in the Factory Settings with the Code "hctreboot".
3. After Successfull reboot, extract "SuperSU-PX5-Android_9.0-ARM64.zip" to Desktop and open the folder.
NOTE: It could fail several times, just open the .bat again until everything has run through cleanly. As on the screenshots it should look then!
4. Open "1. Disable DM-Verity.bat" and enter your IP-Adress from your HU!
Wait for Finish and press Enter!
5. Open "2. Reboot.bat" and enter your IP-Adress from your HU!
Wait for Finish and press Enter!
6. After Reboot open "3. Rooting.bat" and enter IP-Adress from your HU!
Wait for Finish and press Enter!
7. Open "4. Reboot.bat" and enter your IP-Adress from your HU!
Wait for Finish and press Enter!
8. After Reboot you can see the SuperSU App with Full Root Access!
Warning: When the SuperSU App asking for updating the binary, click on Cancel. Otherwise the ROM could not boot anymore.
9. Open "Joying Extra Tools" and click on the button "Enable/Disable adb over WiFi" and "Disable" it.
10. Reboot your HU!
You can do this in the Factory Settings with the Code "hctreboot".
11. Done!
Credits goes to @HvdWolf for the Joying Extra Tools Application!

I will try a rooting method with Magisk with patched boot.img!
I'm busy in the next 4 days!
Use Blockada instead of Adaway!
This would be super nice, like in the currently provided roms.

I can try, but I can't promise, because Magisk works in the kernel.

I just checked out AICP (transition from ZVD to AICP was seamless, wonderful!) and when I restored my backup I lost knock-on functionality (no true surprise). Now when I went to my dialer and used the HiddenMenu code (5689#*980#) and the Hidden Menu doesn't have the option for updating the touch FW anymore. I need the HiddenMenu.apk from ZV8, does anyone have it? I'm going to TOT back to ZV8 in a minute, but if anyone already has the file, I'd appreciate it. If not I'll upload it to Mega and post the link.

Thanks, I found it on Reddit too. Was a pain in the arse to get the command line to launch that menu and not the ZVD one. Not sure how I did it, but everything works again and I didn't have to TOT.

Before I flashed the new app, I renamed the old app and it's odex file with .bak at the end using ES File Explorer. When I flashed the new app I also cleared Davlik and Cache. Don't know if all that is necessary, but it worked for me.

I flashed the file via flashify and try flashing using the option cwm and TWRP/Philz. Also cleared Dalvik And Cache. I did this because I am on stock recovery. and obviously I'm rooted). then I restarted.
But I get this when I dial 5689#*980#

Can you please mention the method which you used to manually launch the command line for the Hiddenmenu of Z8. I'm currently on 4.4.2 ZVD and flashing that file with TWRP which you had mentioned didn't helped me out. Now when I'm dialing 5689#*980# It does not open anything.

You should not have installed via TWRP or anything else. You should have simply copied the file using a program like Root Browser ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree ) to /system/app, then running. Here is a step-by-step. You'll also need Terminal Emulator ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm ).
**You will need root for this**
1. Download the APK file in the previous post.
2. Download and install Root Browser and Terminal Emulator from the Play Store.
3. Launch Root Browser and navigate to /system/app
4. Rename HiddenMenu.apk -> HiddenMenu.apk.backup
5. Rename HiddenMenu.odex -> HiddenMenu.odex.backup
6. Copy the HideenMenu.apk that you downloaded in step 1 to /system/app
7. Restart your phone.
8. Launch Terminal Emulator
9. Run the following command:
Code:
su
10. Run the following command:
Code:
am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.lge.hiddenmenu/com.lge.hiddenmenu.HiddenMenu
Now you should be able to go into HW Test and Touch Test to update the Touch Firmware.

What' going to happen with new oos updates? Do we have to apply the update as usual and then apply again this tool? Does the tool needs to be updated to support every new oos update?

But this tool is not version related。It works for all versions include future versions without update itself。

Thanks for the steps keeping this alive! I haven't used it in awhile - brought it out for Dad to use with wifi only.
Had an issue installing SuperSU - kept getting Verification errors after a couple tries and fix was to Disable Reboot option in Odin when installing TWRP.
After trying different lineage-14 ROMS (including one in the above links) the keyboard doesn't work: "Android Keyboard (AOSP) has stopped" Never lets me type anything. Just trying to connect to wifi. Like this ROM since gapps is already installed. Any ides about the keyboard? Or a better, newer ROM?
thank you XDA!
