Possible to get an Ambient Display working on the Oneplus 3? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Back before i came back to Oxygen OS for the release of Pie, i used various other roms that had supported a Always On Display. since coming back i have missed that feature. i was wondering if theres a way to get a Always On Display working with or without root as i am currently rooted.
- I am both rooted and have magisk installed so feel free to reply with rooted methods/magisk modules. -

Always On AMOLED is probably your best bet:

This question has already been answered in the OP forums:
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/always-on-display.452096/

Yeah i have tried it, however it does have a issue which at least for me is a deal breaker
-Unlocking the phone using my fingerprint instead results in what seems to be the app closing

HTC One m8 hide root

Hi,
First of all I'm new here. I have recently rooted and installed Lineage OS on my HTC One m8. I have noticed that one of my apps (Adidas Confirmed) does not support rooted devices. Therefore I just tried (15 min ago) to flash SUhide on my phone. This resulted in a boot-loop and I therefore had to restore my device. Is there any other way to hide the fact that my device is rooted? As far as I know Xposed framework isn't out yet for Android 7.0 and I can't get Cydia substrate to work with root cloak. Btw I have S-off (not sure if this makes a difference to why the methods I have tried didn't work or not. Just wanted to mention)
Thanks in advance!

There's no Xposed Framework for Nougat. Maybe he can try to use Magisk. Magisk has option to hide the root.

Thanks! I'll try it out. Btw I can see you have S-off. Should I do that too for my m8?

No, you don't need to. S-OFF is giving you more permissions, like to flash h/k mod on sense rom or to flash firmware easily.

I cannot give you a definative answer concerning your ROM mut I too have a rooted HTC One (M8). Post rooting I tried various ROMs from Cyanogen mod but none of these were very up-to-date for long and Android has been quite vulnerable since most manufacturers take an expediant and cynical view when it comes to supporting non-cutting edge hardware (HTC was one of the worst) and supplying security patches. I should add I try to avoid Google and the big social media platforms because I am not prepared to trade privacy (hand over personal data) for the sake of functionality. So, I have been using Moke ROM - MK60.1 Android security patch 1 April 2017. I tried usin MK71 Nightly OTA release but found them unstable - they lost dialer and network functionality after 24 hours. This is where my comments become more relevant. I have several proprietry UK banking apps installed including FinTek ones. None of them is supposed to instal on a rooted device, not at least without saying 'rooted - no go'. Under settings, developer options root access is controlled. The options are: Disabled Apps only ADB only Apps and ADB. None of the Fintek apps function but the main legacy bank app does even though it is not supposed to. In conclusion it seems to be that the app has code capable of interrogating the phone OS and detecting rooted status. Depending on the quality of the program it may correctly determin rooted status, or not. It is highly unlikely there is any intervention available to the rooter to combat this.

Thanks for the reply! In the meantime, I have bought a Samsung galaxy s8 and put my HTC One m8 on a shelf. However, I remember that I managed to solve the issue somehow through Magisk and their "hide root function". It may have been because of an update to the Adidas app or a Magisk update, I am not sure. Hope this was somewhat helpful

Magisk is indeed a solution. It's been updated to (currently) hide root successfully from Safety Net. Although Google may update it again, and break the hide function. So the cat and mouse game goes on. But so far topjohnwu is aggressively keeping Magisk updated to bypass Safety Net.
Apps may use other methods to detect root besides Safety Net. But Safety Net is probably the most common method. Magisk works for me, in hiding root from Netflix and banking apps on my current device (OnePlus 3T).
More recent versions of SuperSU also have a function to hide root (current version is 2.82). I personally haven't tried it. But reports I've read are positive.
Xposed is a no-go, as far as I know. It inherently breaks SafetyNet. So whatever means the Xposed module used before to hide root, won't work now. Again, AFAIK (haven't personally tried, and not really an xposed user).
Also note that some custom ROMs may also trip Safety Net. And if so, there is nothing the Magisk Hide and SuperSU hide function can do about that. But I think this does not apply to Lineage (hide still works).

BLN-L24 links have bad key in the Honor 6x Repository thread

Need to rollback, or be advised of any custom ROMS that work..
Try Elite ROM from ROM section. it should work fine.
I personally would not recommend installing Elite ROM as it is more hassle than it is worth when you try to switch ROMs. It re/debrands your device and even after restoring a nandroid your audio will not work nor will your camera function properly. What files have bad keys? I put a lot of those up and the keys should work fine....
@shashank1320 check the links in the BLN-L24 section....something got messed up when you copied my links as mine work.
@ghostair is your device bricked? IMO none of the ROMs for this phone are worth installing on a main phone because there is too much functionality lost, no disrespect to the devs. Elite ROM does have the least amount of bugs but it is a hassle as I mentioned earlier. My main gripe about it is when installing and uninstalling apps you must restart the device in order for the apps to be added or removed from the app drawer....its a major annoyance.

Let me check mate. Thanks for pointing that out.
No it's not bricked, actually I am on TWRP 3.1.1-0, it was only EliteROM's version that didn't work. I haven't even been able to use the phone at all, for a week, and am currently on LineageOS 13 as it was only release that works for my model it seems.

Im confused....your original post says you need to rollback but you say you are currently on LOS 13?? Rolling back refers to downgrading from Android 7.0 (Nougat) to 6.0.1 (MM) but you are already on MM if you are running LOS 13. You also say your device is not bricked but then in the next sentence say you havent been able to use it at all for a week.....and lastly you say LOS 13 was the only release to work for your model yet every single ROM in the development forum can be flashed to the BLN-L24, I know because I have done it.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish here? Your posts are contradictory and make no sense. Id be glad to help but you gotta give me something to work with here.
Im assuming you did not make a full backup in TWRP before flashing any ROMs, in which case you have learned a valuable lesson....always have a backup. But since you dont we will get you back to EMUI which I assume is what you mean when you say roll back.

I understand, I probably should have just used, "go back," to EMUI. Since LOS 13 isn't usable in the least, as I can't make calls, and it drops LTE.
If they work then how? I followed everything, flashing vendor.img with fastboot, then flashing the respective zip?
I'd rather not go back to EMUI, it's why I haven't been able to actually "use it as a phone," since purchase.
Why would you not want to go back to EMUI? Its smooth and everything works. EMUI is the reason you havent been able to use it as a phone?? There is not one single ROM for this device that works entirely and has full functionality. You're always going to be missing something whether its the camera, LTE, calls, etc.
You're going to have to go back to EMUI so you can update to Anrdoid 7.0 (be sure to make a full backup) and then flash away all the ROMS you like and you will see they are all broken in some way. This is most definitely not the phone to use if you are looking for polished ROMs.
My last tip before departing......download the flashable vendor zip if you still want to mess around with the ROMs, it makes life much easier. Its in one of the threads in that forum I think AOKP

Quick question about unlocking and rooting.

Besides a few apps, why root the 5T? I have rooted every phone I have ever had, but the 5T has most of what I want.
That being said, I am a flashaholic and am having withdrawals. If I do root and flash a custom rom, is EVERYTHING working or are there still issues being worked on?
thanks for any insight.
Same here. There are a few things I would like by rooting but I don't want to loss some things that only cone with oxygen os. Like the super quick face unlock. Hopefully Oreo comes out soon.

I am the same sometimes. I got stock and I am happy for a few weeks but then watching development threads I start to get withdrawals and have to root and ROM again, then I go back to stock and on and on.
LiquidRemix is pretty solid and the main ROM I flash from time to time. Everything works on the latest official builds and the battery is insanely good. The camera suffers from time to time but that is expected as the code/drivers are not openly available. Other than that LR is amazing with excellent dev work and support.

I've been a member since my first ever android device, HTC Wildfire Mini. I've rooted and installed custom ROMs since back then. Ever since grabbing my self a Pixel device I felt all my needs were catered for, until now.
I miss managing my standby time battery using Greenify and a custom kernel. Not that I don't get great standby time on my phone currently but I feel the itch to get tweaking again. haha oh I miss Viper4Android
I was wondering:
1. Can I still have root access and use Google Pay/mobile banking apps?
2. Xposed framework, is that still a thing? haha I used to love those little tweaks.
3. ROMs, what's everyone using?
4. I've not used Magisk before, can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,

Welcome Back!
1. Yes, google pay and most banking apps work but I believe it depends on what bank you use. (I use Chase)
2. Xposed is questionable at best for the moment, at least for Pie. It's still in beta for 8.1 and, as far as I know, Rovo89 hasn't mentioned any development in that regard
3. Personally, I prefer stock. I use elemental kernel, magisk modules and substratum.
4. Magisk is simple enough to use, but some have had issues since Pie. To get a general idea of how magisk works, start here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/development/2017-11-6-root-pixel-2-xl-t3701176

1. I personally don't use any banking apps for making payments but from doing some reading it seems most will work as long as you don't have the Xposed framework installed.
2. It is a thing up to Oreo. It is still in beta for Oreo, however when I used it I had no issues. It felt stable as far as I'm concerned. However, it did slow down my device a bit and I also found alternate apps for the Xposed mods I used.
3. I'm on Liquid Remix and I love it! HavocOS is really great too. I've been a long time Flash kernel user, but now that is EOL. I have now switched to Kirisakura.
4. You just need to download the Magisk zip from the official thread and flash it in recovery. After you reboot you'll see the Magisk Manager app and it's pretty straightforward and self-explanatory at that point!

What is the best stable & working rom for Xiaomi Redmi 9 Pro (International)

Greetings guys, i want to install custom rom, and i've searched all over the forum and didn't find any stable release of rom, for Xiaomi Redmi 9 Pro (International) version.

I run the MIUI 12.0.2 by xiaomi.eu. It is perfectly stable and everything works. No other ROM could convince me so far. I really love Havoc OS but the comments indicate that there are still a few problems with Joyeuse.

is it better than official miui rom? I like eu rom but I mostly use google apps that's why I haven't moved yet!
i agree with @kennymaster. although i cant wait till the day i can get rid of MIUI, for the time being feel like i should still stick to the stock ROM considering the the issues. Havoc, RR had their share of users but still cant convince myself to jump the ship. little old now for this ROM hopping business maybe
Are their any changes in the last days/weeks? I'm also looking for a good working ROM. Mostly, i want to get rid of MIUI but in first, the most important is to get the most functions working without Bloatware and Ads.
After many years with Xiaomi phones and custom ROM's I have reverted to stock MIUI ROM - debloated with ....
XiaomiADBFastbootTools.jar
.... and find it the best compromise for battery life, optimisations, lack of bugs etc etc etc
Yeah thats what i done yesterday after the phone arrived -> i have set it up so minimal like it was possible, then debloated it but got after debloating maximal issues with camera, system freezes and unexpected restarts/shutdowns instead of just kill the mi browser, video and all that stuff

I'm amazed that the situation has not moved on at all since I first got this device over a year ago now I think?
So to be sure, is it still a bit dodgy to even just debloat the device as yet?

Honestly im surprised as well. I bought this phone so early assuming the attention it would get (and i have a track record of pumping out ROMs for my devices but regardless. Im certain there will eventually be bug free builds its the lack of interest and probably with all the other crap going on in the world XDA in general has been kind of slow so on that hand i shouldn't be surprised. Regardless
Il dont mean to come across in a bragging way so excuse me if it comes across like that because i barely consider myself a dev lmao but all my past devices i had dozens of separate threads with at least weekly releases (daily was killing me lol) so i was ready to give our device the same treatment! I just didn't think they were going to raise the specs to what they are now for a PC that can compile the builds
I think that the best Note 9S ROM is the AOSiP port, at least the Curtana version which I am using. I went through four or five of them in a month, starting with Lineage, and had various and sundry issues. Tried going to Resurrection and stuck in a bootloop even. Went to AOSiP and it Just Worked™. Fast and bug free in my experience, too. Rooted with Magisk, extensions to tame the usual (battery life, charging limitation, etc.) and it's my daily driver now.
I'm using Extended, it's a good ROM, stable and with good battery life. It have miui camera and a lot of customisations.
It's my daily ROM.
I tested PE, Havoc, but the best is Extended.

I think its becouse you are trying to open files without third party applications installed. When you trying to open video, for exaple, OS will search the memory to find applications that can open this video, if it does not find it, it opens it via a default application which is MiVideo but it is not there because it has been uninstalled, OS does not know what to do next so it repeats the script and again and again and so on, this is why the phone freezes or resets, so to fix it you need to install e.g. VLC and give it permission when you first time run that app (NOPE for Localization always!xD)
TL;TR: If you remove an application that is pre-installed then you need to install an alternative for that application.
In the picture you can see what's left of the preinstalled apps on my phone (they can't be removed or are not 100% safe to remove or simply I use them) and I've never had freezes and other such problems.
PS: I removed preinstalled Game Turbo its "com.xiaomi.glgm" and I downloaded (apkpure, fdroid, aurora) and installed it manually because I was afraid that the pre-installed one uses cleanmaster which I removed.
PS2: sry for my english
Do I understand correct that no one is posting links to the Roms they us, cause these roms are not on XDA forum?
