On April the 18th my mom was involved in a car accident and passed away on May 5th. This has made me reevaluate my priorities, and while I am not getting out of the Android dev scene, I am moving on from LG (or any OEM that is not dev friendly). Life is too short, and I am tired of wasting perfectly good development time trying to unlock the bootloaders of phones that the OEM is just a ****. I want to spend my time doing atual ROM development, adding tweaks to TWRP, kernel development, etc....
I have placed an order for a OnePlus 7 Pro -- just a flat out sweet phone, and developer friendly. I will only be working with dev friendly phones from now on.
It has been great working with you guys, and I wish you the best of luck finding a way to flash the eng. abl without using EDL mode.

I'm very sorry about your mom. There's no words for that loss.
Also, thanks for all your time and work.
______
Wish I could like any One Plus phone, but I can't.... Yes, they FINALLY went to 1440p -- like all major Android OEMs did FIVE YEARS ago. But...
* no Qi wireless charging (which even iPhone now has and Google added back), and
* no IP rating. (And I don't care they dunked a phone they hand-selected to pass their test. I want official high IP rating.)
* Plus, other stuff.

Hi Brian
Very sorry to hear about your bereavement.
Hope you enjoy your new Phone and wish you well in all your future endeavours. Thank you for your involvement with the LG V20.

My sincere condolences for your loss, mate.
Thanks for all the efforts and hope to meet you again maybe someday in another project to have fun and joy - that is the spirit which makes us survive in the vanity of vanities and thanks for sharing it with us, LG users...
So sorry for your loss, Brian. Best of luck on your development endeavors with the OnePlus devices, and thank you for all the work you've already done. Maybe someday LG will wake up and be pro-consumer. This is my first and last LG phone otherwise. (Other then the Nexus4)

Sorry for your loss Brian @runningnak3d. Thank you for all your contributions to the LG Dev community and efforts in helping me with Super Rom. Hope you do bigger and better things within the OnePlus community!
I sure appreciate the condolences guys. I tell you, losing someone close really does make you rethink just what you are spending your time on, and is it important.
I have learned an AWFUL lot since getting started with the V20 back in 2016. Heck I bricked TWO H910s (AT&T model) because my last LG phone was a G4 but it didn't have secure boot enabled, so I could cross flash (heck -- flash unsigned firmware), all I wanted. I use TMO, and I thought I could just flash H918 firmware onto the H910 and convert it. After the second brick, I decided to learn everything I could about LG security. That eventually lead to the LAF post, and eventually lafsploit 1.0 and 2.0.
It has been a great 3ish years, but in ALLLLLLL this time, I have only built *one* ROM. I have only ported ONE TWRP version. I have only tweaked *one* kernel. That is where the real fun in this is. I think I got lost along the way, and was just determined to beat LG. Well LG -- you won this round -- I forfeit.

A forfeit is not necessarily a win! LG lost when they broke the rules and decided to screw their customers.

@runningnak3d: Aw man, I am terribly sorry to hear that... And I do know exactly what you mean how it makes you rethink priorities.
I see completely how ROM and kernel development would feel more... "constructive" or "positive" (would those be the right words?) compared to the constantly uphill battle of fighting LG and Qualcomm security.
But hell, they DIDN'T win, you did: You are a big part of the reason why several generations of LG phones are rooted, including all V30 models. And you are almost the sole reason why T-Mobile models are rooted (I know others deserve credit too). Take huge pride in that. You won several battles. They just keep starting new ones, and you chose not to engage the latest ones. That's your prerogative, not forfeiting.
I might see you in the OnePlus community one day. So far my V30 is still going strong. Thanks to you I finally rooted it last weekend, went without a hitch. But my next phone could well be a OnePlus as well -- as long as my V30 still works to play music
If you ever want to just hang out and talk over a beer or Starbucks, just say the word. Or even NOT talk over a beer or Starbucks. I'm just 10 mins away, as you know...
My condolences to you and your family. Your contributions to the XDA community will not be forgotten, and I hope the OnePlus 7 ends up being a great device for you to continue with into the future.
Thanks and the best of luck to you and your family in the future...
That's terrible. I'm sorry to hear that. Definitely take some time for yourself and your family.
Shame LG quietly decided to lock down their unlocked phones after the V30. This will be my first and last LG.

So sorry for your loss.
Hey Brian,
First and formost, i truly am sorry for your loss and hope nothing but the best for you. i say your name like i know you on a first name basis. I've been in the XDA scene since the Galaxy Note 3 and LG G4 days. Thanks to you i'm still on my LG v20 H-918 (T-Mobile) fully in my control and still using it today, writing this. We, who all went through the struggle's of defeating LG's security among others with you understand how it feels when we all crawled through a river of $#/+ and came out clean on the other side. though you single-handedly beat LG, We still felt that we was right there with you trying to find a way, so others could have full access to there devices.
Just had to say thank you and hope maybe one day you pick THORS hammer back up and start smashing some more of LG's security. (a man can dream) lol. I had my sites on the LG v35 because its a rarity type phone like the LG G6 with the SD835. i really like the LG v35 and hoped maybe there would be some breakthroughs with it. but, without you, this may never be possible.
If moving on from this, is what's needed, then more power to you. I'll see ya in the One Plus 7pro forums and look forward to seeing what you come up with on the development side of things.
1nce again, thank you for sharing your wisdom and kindness with us all.

I want to expand in this . @runningnak3d won in many ways. He pwned an entire LG security team. Got root for the V20 and V30 users which also got LG a few extra units sold.
I personally would not have bought a V30 if Running did not get root for it. I'm sure many users here on XDA felt the same way.
I called many T-Mobile places looking for the V30 and only 1 place in the Bronx had it.
If anything, Running is a 1 man army! He did a bayonet charge directly into LG's chest.

Condolences for your loss, prayers for you and family.
Also want to join those thanking you for your work on the V30. The rooted V30 with HiFi DAC driving E80 headphones is a lifeline to me right now. A real blessing that is helping with life's pain. Thank you and God bless.

@runningnak3d I'm sorry for your loss. Can't begin to imagine what you're going through. Stay strong.
You were and always will be a hero for LG development community. I enjoyed LG v20 because of you. I always thought of you as the person who had all the answers. Thanks for all you've done Brian and all the best for your future. I'll probably move out of LG after my LG V30 becomes unusable and move to a dev friendly phone.
Goodbye until the we meet again someday, in some xda thread.

Aakash.

im giving up on this optimus lte, im selling it, or trading for a galaxy nexus,
the dev community seems slow, and not any CUSTOM roms, just de-bloated stock roms, there isnt even a real promise of ICS, just a TBD... and i just feel i like the nexus overall better then this anyways, to much hassle over rom flashing and potential corrupting of the filesystem which cause's softbricks and me alot of headaches....
the nexus just seems so much more custom rom friendly
Thanks for letting us all know. I'll alert high command of the situation.

You were mistaken in thinking anyone here cares. What does making this thread accomplish? Are you trying to make other people give up too? I just don't see the point in posting this. You're just going to get negative replies from Nitro HD fans. And it's not like you've contributed anything, either.
why the need for bashing eh ?
does it make you feel better??
the point was to just state that this particular device was no longer of interest to me, and for some that have maybe read my issues with device and the fact that there is not many that are dev'ing for the device, that maybe some would reconsider getting one, not everyone needs 100% POSITIVE loyal fan love bs, some would love to hear and see the truth about issues and such as they wouldnt want to be stuck with something that would cause them problems in the future,
and for another " youve not contributed anything either " comment... for your personal information, im learning android coding, apps, and os information right now, ive been to college for video game design and development and web design... and its people like you that make me not want to contribute anything.. negative remarks, rude comments, and overall bashing of a person is not helpful, nice, or deserved...
so maybe in the future... YOU should think first before typing and learn that everyone starts somewhere... and stuff like this, makes me not want to contribute,...
anyways, point in case, im trading my lg-p930 tonight with my friend for his galaxy nexus, im sure ill be happier with it as ill be able to code for it and learn to dev alot easier with an official google branded device...
if you dont like this thread... DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR... DONT POST IN IT
BTW, I've been around in this forum for a while now, since early days of htc's and win mobile rom cooking, ive made some of my very own personal winmo roms for my htc diamond and previous oldies,
and i do know what im doing with this stuff as its been a sort of hobby for me to mess with stuff and not keep it stock, something always has to be messed with in my collection, and all i was basically trying to state was that i gave up on this device for learning to dev with, ok,

really.. explain how that was being a hypocrite??
the poster above my previous post stated that basically i should not post cuz i have not contributed, so to speak..
all i stated was that i was unhappy with it, and that i prefered to move onto something else, and to let others with the same possible ideas as me to see that maybe this is not the device for them... that is all...
anyways, this is going nowhere with anything anyways as you both seem to think so ignore it and remove yourself from the topic in your CP settings

Now why does my post count matter? I have been looking at this forum for years and just made my account to help contribute with the development for the Nitro/Optimus LTE because it is my first smartphone. This is my last post in this thread as it should probably be deleted by a mod anyway. Have fun with your Nexus, nobody will miss you.

@tnap1979:
I'll wait for HTC X One and Samsung Skyrocket HD to come out then select one. I don't think I'll stick with Nitro even if ICS released tomorrow...I need my compass and Skullcandy earphones!
thanks [email protected] for some understanding...
if it wasnt for the fact the LG has put me thru so much BS, i might be happy with its hardware, but is just not as friendly as a HTC or Samsung....
htc's and samsung's i know i can recover from super easy, not have a bunch of hassle and be able to come and go quick and simple from any type of custom rom i want...
i still havent figured out if this device has a fastboot mode or anything other then recovery and download mode... ive wanted to find out how to mess with ics... but it refuses to let it boot, and where as the nexus or even my old atrix for that matter have ics, my friends gs2 has ics, and our device has been " promised " ics... but ive heard tell of lg not holding up there end of the bargain on some devices..
might also help if LG was a lil more DEV friendly with their devices as well...
HTC even gives the chance to unlock your bootloader just for that purpose
now i know that the lg p930 does have an unlocked boot loader, but the filesystem seems to not be user friendly to CWM
which makes it difficult for some work to get done if you happen to make mistakes in code or whatever
Bye bye

You've definitely proven that you have the attention span of a 12 year old. We all know about one developers' attempt to make ICS available, yet is unable to do so as he is nearly the only developer that works with LG devices. In other words we won't get an ICS ROM any time soon, as he is putting focus into other LG devices. Now if you also notice, he is working on a ROM for the AT&T Nitro HD, not the Bell Optimus LTE. Where does that leave us Bell users? Dumping the phone up on for-sale websites in attempt to recoup what we lost after LG screwed us with the release of the 4X. Yes, that's right, LG released their quad core phone with ICS on it... hmm...
Now you may love the IPS LCD that this phone offers. That's all fine and dandy, but when you have a $500 device in your hands, you'd expect to have some manufacturer and developer support behind it. One developer and a lack of initiative from LG to release the update has pissed off quite a few of us. We're already into March (Q2) and ICS has not been released as LG stated. As tn stated, LG devices and LG themselves are not friendly to the developer community.

I have a Bell Optimus LTE using kernelpanics rom and I have had no issues to speak of. So I'm confident that the CM9 release for the nitro (whenever it ends up releasing) will work on my phone.
I must say that LG's marketing is 2 blame in this poor situation. It's been 1M pieces sold in 2 month BUT it could be 3M to 5M if they have it in shops in india, china, europe and c.i.s.
P880 4X HD is gonna be available only in summer, way too long to wait. LG is digging hole for themselves, they give up market share to samsung Nexus and Note and HTC, & Xperia S
Nitro is a perfect piece of android, way better then Nexuses & other amoled s*1t and poor LG makes nothing to spread its popularity
i agree whole heartedly, the lg p930 is amazing hardware, with crap all for proper dev support and lg's track record does not help them in this matter at all...
well... this phone is as stable as an iphone !
coming from a galaxy kingdom " S S2 note" i can honestly say i always used to flash custom ROMs for a couple of hours but at the end of the day when i go to sleep i have the original one again for stability most of all
at least for the first time in so long i don't waste hours on flashing and restoring data and finding bugs and so on ..... till it end up restoring my backed up original rom and settings !
sure custom roms have their ups and downs but..... the phone is stable guys !
it doesn't have the crappy touchwiz or the need of lagfix ... etc
deploating fixed the lag and the battery..... what else do i want ?! since its not sense UI from HTC nor MIUI or even a worthy and heavy tweaking then i really cant see the need for Devs or to flash our phones !
but thats just me... someone enjoying one of the best screen there is on the rarest high end phone with a quality specs
BTW: anyone else tried playing MKV on this phone and galaxy note ?
trust me u will be surprised
is your lg gets really HOT when using gps and car charging?
or playing game and car charging? the freaking phone get really hot and it would STOP charging! you know you will run out of battery cus the freaking phone stop charging when it' HOT!
so this lg is not reliable! i switched back to my old phone samsung skyrocket! no, my skyrocket never get hot like this.

First off, how does me saying, basically, "stop *****ing and be patient," make me have any sort of lack of an attention span? We're all frustrated about this phone but most people who frequent here have seen enough *****ing. It's our own damn faults for buying this phone anyway. However, the phone goes a long way when you wipe the internal storage and let the battery break in. It's pretty snappy with GO Launcher and I get a full day of use now. The only problem is the lack of devs, but we've heard this a million times now. Just 21 more months to go... hopefully we'll get ICS by then.

probably portable charger doesnt output that much power, that why it' doesnt overheat.
but when i using car charging, the LG does overheat. i also have samsung skyrocket, it never hot like that.
heys i havent spent any real time in this section of XDA, currently have a EVO 3D, tons of development there. how is it over here? the dev section seems kinda empty.. thoughts?

Heya, believe it or not we are both coming from the same place. I loved my EVO 3D and hacked it to the max. However, has the months went by the phone's specs were no longer "flagship" quality. As a result, I went with LG OG after much and I mean much research. To your answer it is not empty but it just in hibernation until Jelly Bean is released, which is going to happen at any time very soon for Korean already has it (End of Jan I hope). So the devs are holding back releases for roms until JB but CM and ASOP are all in development as we speak.

^^^ I agree with what you said. In fact ive seen this.on many phones. Most of the blame is on lg for releasing the phone half ass. And also there wasent enough marketing put into the phone quite honest. By no means this isnt a flagship phone. Just because its labled as one. True the specs are nice but the fact that released with bugs and with ICS is complete bullcrap and a let down for sure. Further its just the nature of this forum to have to many chiefs not enough indians type of deal. Best way to learn anything is just to read up learn a little bit and have a clear mind and confidence u wont mess up your phone hahaha?

Space, I don't have a wide berth of knowledge to give you, as this is only my 2nd Android smartphone. That said, the development here is severely lacking. There were a lot of hotshots promising things they couldn't deliver early on (like this phone is exactly the same as the Nexus 4, lol). They say all the action happens in IRC but log in there. Try it. Back yet? Didn't learn **** did you? No one talks about development there. It's like a business meeting about more meetings. They talk about what they need to be developing.
In the end, I'm not helping, so I can't really complain, but it's slightly frustrating to have a beast of a phone that no one is improving. Least of all LG. When I've attempted to get information I've been ignored or given the "we don't really know" SLASH "stfu kid" response. If you find good development news I'd love to see it.

Many of us work, I work full time and have kids. Plus I have several other projects. If you honestly think nothing is getting done, maybe you should check github. Look at the amount of work being done towards cm10.1 for the lgog.
Not all development is ROMs and themes. Most of it happens before you see those ROMs and mods. Sure I could copy paste a rom together on my phone and call it something. Then everyone would think it was so cool, but the fact is it wouldn't be much different then what we already have. Will I build a stock based rom? Yes. Kernels? Yes. Aosp ROMs, yes. Some fancy aroma kitchen sink mod. Yup. Will I be doing this all within a week of getting the device and doing my research on it? Nope. There are like 20 sensors on this phone. Not to mention a ton of testing on kernels, what's bloat, what's a proprietary driver/lib vs source built. You need to remember that all of the development is done in peoples spare time. The phone is fast so no rush making it
Faster. The software is decent and has some decent feature without a lot of annoying issues so no rush there. Battery could be improved but thats mostly usage based. Nothing is crippled on this phone so there isn't exactly a huge rush to fix something on it. That is a good thing. We can pace ourselves and get more creative instead of fixing crap that should work already.
The biggest issue is not being jb+. That is being worked on daily by many people. I plan on helping as well but I agree with most of the devs on waiting for the korean source drop.
Give this phone time and it'll be crawling with flashy things.

To add on to what Jokersax said, there is alot of development going on, but not as roms. CM10.1 technically works, but there is a bug that wont allow your to see anything on it. Would you like somebody to post it for you to test? We have to get a device tree going, and see what mods from other phones work here, and what we need to chance to get the different roms we build up and going. I am fairly new on the dev scene, but I am working on a rom ATM, just about to get out of the testing phase for my first public build (in the dev section). b-reezy is also working on porting MIUI, removing LG software to make it almost completely AOSP, and getting a few themes on our device, and helping me learn more as I go. We have alot of devs, but between real life events, and the time to make everything work it takes time. How long does a take big companies to get updates out that have dedicated developers? For LG it has been over a year to update one generation of android. Just be happy we can update it before that. Also if you sit enough on IRC you can find stuff (I found a flashable korean rom for our phone that boots, is english, but doesnt have 3g/4g/wifi working and such, so it is not posted here yet), but alot of it is people working in their free time, and all my talk about my work is either in my what do you want in my roms thread under Q&A, where there is already 3 test builds of my rom, and some of us are talking individually, like joker right above me, and b-reezy both talk to me daily on Gtalk the last several days to about 2 weeks for each one of them. And I cant remotely do anything as good as they can. Just wait a month or two then you will be spammed with roms and kernels to use. Try hitting up the Nook Tablet thread and see how development is going on there- I have had it over a year and there isnt even 2 dozen roms for it. It is all a matter on how locked the device is, and the drivers and such for the phone. Also we may be able to port stuff from the Nexus 4 BUT THIS IS NO WHERE NEAR THE SAME THING! We have a locked boatloader, the nexus doesnt (really big difference for dev work), plus GSM vs. CDMA radios is alot harder to dev for it seems like in the beginning. It is annoying how people complain about dev work not being fast enough yet they dont even remotely understand how any of it works. FYI we will probably have Jellybean on our device before LG releases it. 4.2 is the primary concern for the bigger devs right now. IF ANYBODY CANT FIND OUT THE LATEST DEVELOPMENT ON IRC JUST ASK, OR EMAIL OR GTALK ME AT [email protected] FOR MINE AND OTHER DEVS LATEST WORK. LET THEM WORK ON IT IN THEIR FREE TIME FOR FREE, AND I CAN ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS WHILE I AM AT SCHOOL OR WAITING FOR PRACTICE TO START. If you payed these devs then you complain, other than that STFU. There is alot of stuff that goes on that we cant account for ahead of time.
Jeeze people, devs do this stuff as a hobby. Who are we to ***** that they don't do it fast enough, as one who has no programming skills I'm just grateful to the guys who do the work to make a killer device even better. Am I itching for some CM goodness? Sure, but I can wait, this phone is awesome as is.

It's picking up really well. I truly love the beginning of development life for great phones. I also had the evo 3d and enjoyed it grow from cleanrom to jellybean 4.1.
I really don't mind not having cm10. I personally would rather have stock jb. This LG stuff isn't half bad. The only thing for me is I get easily bored. I like the super cool themed roms with pretty things. But, that being said, jelly bean came out like forever ago. We are on like 4.2.2. I am more upset with LG. It isn't like they didn't know it was coming.

Agreed. Pressure should be put on LG to update and release source. This is what we need to get more things rolling.
That being said, even though this software is only ICS, this is my first Android that I don't mind stock. I've run all the versions of ZV9 so far and stock deodex with some tweaks runs wonderfully. I'm coming from Touch wiz and Sense systems where they skin and change everything. I'll always be a Vanilla head, but I'm just as stoked to see what LG does with jellybean. This stock software isn't that far from AOSP really.
Also I don't see what the hoopla is about trying to port Nexus 4. This phone has way more potential than that.

If you didn't want ICS why'd you buy it? ICS runs perfect on this phone so far I'm glad there isn't much to fix. Remember the epic or the photon or the evo/evo3d those phones had issues this one has one wake lock and gets a little warm and the keyboard bug was fixed, by lg. I am grateful that this phone has little to no bugs and also that we have these skilled devs that are not only willing to tackle some of the issues to make this phone as perfect as possible but also that they're working at all to get cm or aosp on the device. Were not entitled to anything and like I said the phone already runs and looks great so we can be patient

are you serious with this rant??
The Point of BUYING A TOP OF THE LINE PHONE IS FOR THE LATEST UPDATES ON IT!! I BOUGHT IT ACTUALLY BASED ON THE PRESS SAYING IT WAS GOING TO RELEASE WITH Jellybean/or it would soon after which has been far from the truth.
YET IVE actually owned all those other phone that you mentioned as well. And yes eventually they received some nice DEV, all but the Photon which left such a bad taste in my mouth that I would never buy a MOTOROLA again!
That was all 3 years back respectively. Wouldn't you think a company would learn from past mistakes of other manufactures? Especially when they are "debuting" a "flagship device" Bottom Line - Its not smart.. You have you opinion, but no need to make an excuse for a companies bad decision. That is just Fact my friend....
Edit*
One last thing actually as a consumer we are entitled to timely updates by LG as Big as a company as they are to put the correct resources in the right places to ensure its consumers who pay for there premium product to have the most up to date software!! It would also make dev a hell of a lot easier too.
It has not been long yet so i have a little patience left..

IT GOES UNSAID THAT THE DEVS DESERVE CREDIT (They work with what they're given) - no need to constantly push that on people, obviously the devs are in control. To many of them there is some Incentive that also goes unsaid or unheard too. But to each their own!!
Hopefully the JB update for the Korean version means good news for us too!! Cant Wait*** I know there will be some good dev!

As the title says, any chance for a sense 6 port to our beloved G2? I just read the nexus 5. Has a port in alpha stage. Here's to a longshot.

We only got 3 dev's and two of 'em are in jail so I say chances are 1 in 1,000,000.
...so yes I'm saying you gotta a chance.
seriously though it is very obvious that we have a severe shortage of dev's working on the Sprint G2. The ones we do have are top notch but they are extremely busy just trying to get ZVC roms built. This phone will drive a dev bat crap crazy with all its security hold ups.
On the phones I had in the past there was always at least ten different dev's or dev teams releasing roms based on stock and of then course countless aosp stuff going on and then there were always the one or two mad scientist devs that always wanted to stand out from the crowd and these guys would bring in all the crazy ports.
Of course a few years ago each carrier only had one or two phones anyone would really want to bother with. Now look at things, there are at least 4 main stream Android phones at Sprint alone if not more and its diluting the dev pool. Sure most of the ones I use to follow went to the HTC One but then a lot of them also went to the S4 or note. Then some went to Nexus and on and on. 3 years ago they were ALL on the EVO OG and you bet if it could be ported it was ported to that phone. Oooohhh those were the days... but I digress.
The sad truth is the only way this phone will see more dev's is if current owners learn to dev for it. Any veteran dev would already be deving this phone if they were ever going to.
Yeah, silly me keeps picking phones that don't get support. My wanting to carry a different handset than what most have segregates me. Heh. Oh well. Glad we have what we have. To be honest these days this phone in stock form does most all i want.

I'd be more than happy to develop for the LS980, if it weren't so farking easy to manage an unrecoverable brick. I bought it because my expectations were that of someone who thought they were getting a nexus 5 with a better battery and display since they're made by the same manufacturer and share the same internals. Had I known that they were going to lock out one of the most basic dev features, indeed even a part of the official software development kit (fastboot) then I'd deal with crappy battery life and gotten a nexus 5. I tend to stay away from nexus phones because they're developer phones...sounds backwards, I know...developer avoids a dev phone? But, let's face it, dev phones lack the real kick and features of actual consumer phones, so I try to pick a phone that walks the line between being easy to develop on while still making an excellent PHONE.
Excellent phone, LG nailed. However, they really screwed the pooch on developer functions. That's why there are so few devs. A lot of them moved on to the m8 or got a real n5 once they realized what they had gotten themselves into. So, yeah...The ones that stick it out have my undying respect because they're effing SAINTS. I don't have the patience for the brick cycle myself.
Like many users here, I am disappointed by the pace of development. I understand that the T-mobile version is the only one that has a unlocked bootloader and that limits the interest on development as many potential devs have other variants. Many users here (myself included) are not knowledgeable enough to develop anything ourselves. The less enlightened (to put it nicely) non-developers complain like crazy while others sit quietly for a paragon developer to come along. There are a few developers who are doing great work bringing CM11 and DeviantXone to our phones. Either way most of us non-developers really don't have any opportunity to make a difference... until now.
There is a petition that is taking off at change.org. It has already received a response from LG and with more signatures, could lead to a change. The petition is asking for LG to unlock the bootloader of the phone. This should increase the number of developers by a substantial amount. Developing for the LG G3 is much better than developing for just the D851.
Please join Sebastian Jena's campaign: Click here to sign the petition!

I wouldn't call what going on right now a lack of development. We have both stock based and cyanogenmod based Roms. When the cyanogenmod Roms that are out now become stable we will see a lot of ports for our phone. Its not that big of a deal but the petition is a great idea for the rest of the world. Just so you are aware most g3 versions can have stock based Roms but there seems to only be one actively developed ROM at a time over in the generic g3 section because the rest of the world has the same problem us T-Mobile folks do (lack of people willing to step up and learn how to do this stuff). I give it another month at most until we see stable cyanogenmod.
Goes back to 1% who modify their phones vs. Corporate clients who insist on security.... Who do you think cell providers and manufacturers are going to listen too....?

This is a valid point but I am not sure that many corporate clients support android devices nevermind the LG G3. Everywhere I have worked has been iphone and blackberry but the sample size is only 3 so I could be way off about this. Also they usually listen to the loudest of us. Even if we are outnumbered 10 to 1, we still stand a chance as long as we make more noise in support of this than they do in support of the status-quo. Even if you are right though, it doesn't take long to sign up and it is probably the biggest difference I and other non-developers can make so why not try at least?
I'd be fine with signing it, but then I'll get loads of emails from them, which I don't want.

Just mark it as spam. I signed. I'd say reword to: "sign this petition to get ALL g3 bootloaders unlocked and help development!" And leave it at that.

For the record.... How many bootloaders been unlocked by a cell provider after initial release... And modding community is probably outnumbered by 100 to 1 or more likely more..and loud noise doesn't over come revenue stream... Be glad some providers release a dev phone for purchase.

You still may want to edit.your post. You spend far too long complaining about the lack of developing and how no one is deloping and.far less on why the phone should be unlike. Wasn't until the ending that I was like...oh he's not making a petition because no one is developing but to unlock the boot loader....
I also noticed the lack of development behind the G3.
Its a great phone, but if you want a phone with development youll have to get a HTC or Samsung or Nexus.
Even the Samsung devices with locked bootloaders get more development lol.
Sold mine on Craigslist and I hve a Note 4 on preorder awaiting shipment.
There use to be a time where if you were dissapointed in the amount of development being done on a phone you learned how dev. Thats what was great about android. It is an open source system made for you to make it youelr own. Yes times have changed and and not everything is completely open (nothing was ever completely open), but i know there are still ways to learn. Yes you might think your too busy to learn but if you really want more development for this device you will find the time to learn and truly make your device yours.

There is development going on for the g3. Just the tmobile variant. Once the boot loader gets unlocked, it'll probably be easy to port them to the other variants. And it's not LG's fault that only tmobile's boot loader is unlocked. It's the cell provider's that wanted that. If everyone just gives up and moves to different phones, the devs will see no need to try and unlock the other bootloaders.
I signed it , hopefully they unlock it
pssst
BUMP!
Starting a post for those of us who are stuck without the factory images corrupted. I am one of the idiots who made a backup but didn't save it to my computer so for now I am stuck with a paper weight. If any kind helpful soul has any suggestions for I or the rest of us who may be stuck please let me know as I'm willing to try anything. I'm pretty good with twrp adb and fastboot commands. Thanks otherwise I can wait on the images from Razer I guess just wish we knew when?
Hello there i am posting here full backup factory image of all partitions before to modify anything

After discussing this with a few heavy hitters in the community I have decided to send it in through the RMA process. There is no guarantee we will ever see the system images and after multiple talks with Razers support staff I don't feel good about waiting while my phone depreciates in value. Will probably sell it at swappa for a one plus 5t if we don't get system images by March 1st. Sad cause I really wanted this phone to be great but no development and no system images really set the stage for a failed first model. I'll update this post when I get it back from RMA to verify it was indeed accepted and fixed......fingers crossed.

Development is meaning less and less as the push for security is becoming tighter. Soon no device will be able to be secure while having open source development.
If you do get the 5t make sure to flash an aosp based rom before you even set the device up. Mainly with them being caught again mining data and sending to to China.

Yes they accepted my rma and are in the process of shipping a new one back to me. I will update this thread once I have received the new phone. However given we are still waiting for factory images I might just sell it and look for something else with more development....pixel XL 2 or one plus 5t.

I'm actually really quite disappointed in the time this is taking. I actually had a Nextbit Robin and the factory images were out almost immediately. What on earth is going on here?
A major contributor to me getting this phone was knowing Nextbit were in some way involved and they were very developer friendly. Being a big Razer fan too and hearing about these awesome speakers and silky smooth 120Hz I was totally sold. If I'd known development was this non existent (not the devs faults!), I wouldn't have bought this phone.

Being an anarchist myself, ive been more than tempted to start a boycott on the razer phone (even while owning it myself) - support staff are uninformed, phone is still in beta stages, and no fun for anyone wishing to do development.
Its like the company is trying to rival apple instead just for gamers. Imo they missed the mark a bit and throttled the phones performance by not developing the software fully.
Ive added manual controls for the camera and installed Viper plus an adblocker just so when you play games theres not the constant risk of pop up ads..... Nice idea for a phone not but not well executed, suprising considering the nextbit was its predecessor. And now Razer are talking about the Razer 2, its a joke :silly:

That's what makes me the most upset. How are you talking about the Razer 2 before even fixing some major bugs on ur current 2 month old phone.
Not sure what everyone expected. It's their first device and nextbit only had one device before being bought. It wasn't even that good of a device. So of course this oem will take years to catch up.
As for development, that is becoming g less of a priority for oems. Due to the security risks. Also being its razor you have to expect most of the stuff to be completely closed Sourced and any open source files will lose lots of tweaks.

Well that depends. Some of the drivers maybe licensed so that they are only in the wild on devices and not allowed to be released in any other fashion. Many things could be causing them not to release it. I could easily see many reasons not to release it.
Will ... We can open thread in there forum and make request to razer to release the stock image and make many people replay on it. And if they close it we can make another one.
Disappointing Razer is violent against rooting

Nice way to get yourself banned from their forums all together. But sure, because annoying people always works.

More and more oems are becoming that way. Root is a security hole and they can't really afford them.

I have been on the other side of the fence and let me tell you that it is pointless. The tools available to sites go all the way up to the isp when needed. If someone doesn't want you on their site bad enough. Trust me. You won't be. And hiding behind a VPN or changing your iP. Don't do anything.
But you are more then welcome to give it a go.
Razer needs to pay the price for keeping root hard
Wow some of you people are quite delusional how this works. Razer never released this as a developers phone, and rooting it is very easy.. I don't know what are are all on about. No, they haven't released factory images yet, but Iirc they don't HAVE to. They met there legal obligations by releasing the kernel source. Yes some of you didn't follow they procedures for twrp and messed up your phone but that's not razer fault. Technically they don't even have to do RMA on those phones but from what I understand they have.
They have already stated they WILL be releasing factory images soon, but it's just not out yet, now you wanna throw a temper tantrum on there forums? How about everyone just calm down and wait.. I know it sux being without a phone, and such a kickass one at that, but you made the choice... At least you know a fix is coming right?

I agree with you. Mine was dead but fixed it and working again on stock with help of @BakaSenpai. We tried both some ideas and put them together and worked. Still i have the corrupted at the start but working great without issues so far.
