UK TA 1050 updates - Nokia 6.1 (2018) Questions & Answers

Up until today, my TA 1050 sim free phone bought from Carphone warehouse has been stuck on the February update.
No amount of manual checking either by standard OTA or WiFi with or without a VPN to the USA, India etc worked.
I was getting fed up of this so did a bit of digging and have now updated to the March patch, and as I write this the April patch is downloading.
For those that want to do the same I did this. (you'll need the ADB drivers etc set up)
Download the March patch from here (its about 530MB as it is the maintenance patch)
https://android.googleapis.com/packages/ota-api/nokia_pl2sprout_plate200ww/3601a351ff7577ed5a013d6f4fe5fdd64d32355c.zip
Once downloaded rename it to PL2-351F-0-00WW-B04-update.zip (not sure if this is important as we will be sideloading) and copy it to where your ADB files are
Mine was C:\ADB
Put the phone into recovery mode by doing the following
1. Turn off the phone and connect it to a PC
2. Wait until the battery sign appears
3. Hold the Power + Volume Up buttons until the phone vibrates
4. Release the Power button, but keep holding Volume Up until an Android robot appears (you can release the Volume button)
5. Once the Android robot appears, press (and hold) the Power button and just click Volume Up
6. Now you should be in recovery mode and see its menu
Once in recovery, use the volume keys to select 'Apply update via ADB ' and press the power button.
Open a command window where your ADB files are (as above mine was C:\ADB) and type ADB devices
this will check the connection and should come up with something like
PL............................. sideload
(the first part is the phone ID)
Now type ADB sideload PL2-351F-0-00WW-B04-update.zip
Sit back and wait.
Once finished (you'll see the % gradually go up in the command window and confirmations appearing on the phone screen) the recovery menu re-appears, so go to 'Reboot system now'
The initial boot will take a bit longer than normal, but once restarted go to check for updates and more than likely it will trigger the April update.
I hope this helps, but please be aware if you do this it is at your own risk.

Just as an addition, this works without the bootloader being unlocked

Sorry, no idea.
i beleive that 4.3 and brick problem is only if you took the OTA factory update . i didnt use these files but i did use that exact procedure and i was on CM 10.2 which is 4.3.1 and had no problems. i tried a friends sim card from rogers( im on virgin mobile) and it worked great .
where's the 4.1.1 file? hotfile is closed so http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ doesn't work

When you say not rooted or anything like that, I take it that your device is still S-ON and bootloader is still locked as well?
Make backup of all personal/important data on phone, for just in case things get wiped then proceed with following.
Hopefully you have adb installed on your computer, if not, get Android SDK . Install it so that you can have the developer toolkit to install adb/fastboot. You'll get the adb/fastboot.exe files in the platform-tools directory after installation. Also you need to install the HTC drivers for your device too.
You can then go ahead and reboot your phone into bootloader. Restart your device and then Hold Volume Down AND Power Button. This will take you into the Bootloader screen.
Once that is done(Or if you already have it installed), you need to get the latest firmware.zip file for your device. I see it's 2.22.401.5 so it's an unbranded WWE device. You can check for firmware.zip (In OTA.zip you can extract it from there) either OTA ZIP COLLECTION or from 2.22.401.5.zip . Download the firmware.zip file and place it in the folder that contains adb/fastboot.exe.
Next open a command prompt and change directory to where adb/fastboot.exe is OR just hold shift and right click inside the folder and select open command window here. Type:
Code:
fastboot devices
This is to check if the device is connected to the PC, you should see your devices serial number pop up.
Next.
IF and ONLY IF you are S-ON and your bootloader is unlocked, type the following:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
This is to lock your bootloader. If you didn't unlock your bootloader OR you are S-OFF then the above is NOT necessary.
Next:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Wait for device to reboot, it'll reboot into RUU(ROM Update Utility) mode. Then:
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
After that use the same command again i.e You flash the zip TWICE. Sometimes it might not work on the first go, so twice is preferable.
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
Once that is done you can go ahead and type in
Code:
fastboot reboot
To reboot your device again. You flashed the firmware with the radio.img again, we see if maybe the problem wasn't with the radio/modem on the device.
I had the same problem last week suddenly out of nowhere. Did a google and found this a solution on another forum - androidcentral. I can't post links as i'm a new member.
basically go into recovery mode, and wipe the cache partition. That's what I did and so far haven't seen the issue again
I was having a similar problem with my M8 from Verizon. I had the same "Internet Connection Unstable" error message. Everything had been running smoothly for months since the 4.4.4. update in Sept. (or was it August?). Anyways, the issue popped up about a week and a half ago and seemed to be related to the router as my laptop was having some issues as well (I have 4-8 other devices connected at any given time that have had no problem with the internet).
The problem was only with my home Wi-Fi. I have a Netgear N150 (WNR1000v2). I was connected to the router and able to access the router configuration and other devices (i.e. Foscam IP cam) locally, but was unable to get any internet traffic through. I tried resetting the router, resetting my phone, forgetting the connection, EVEN resetting my phone to factory, and a bunch of other stuff that didn't seem to work.
Only a few minutes ago on a whim, I changed the mode to support only bands G and N from the previously set B/G/N. BAM!!! My M8 is connected again and works! Not sure what exactly the issue was, but at least it's working for now.
I wanted to post this here because it was the first search result that popped up when I was trying to research the issue. Hopefully this will help someone else!
Thanks for the info! Could you please let me know how to change the mode to support those bands? I have the same phone, same unstable connection issue only with my home WiFi.
Same issue with internet connection resolved
I just resolved the issue :
follow these steps
Be sure the phone is off.
Press and hold the Volume Down key.
Turn the phone on by pressing the Power key until the phone vibrates, then release Power.
Continue holding the Volume Down key.
Release the Volume Down button when the black screen with red and blue lines of text appears.
Press the Volume Down button repeatedly until reboot to bootloader is highlighted, then select it with the Power button.
The device will display a white screen with colored text.
Press the Volume Down button repeatedly until BOOT TO RECOVERY MODE is highlighted, then select it with the Power button.
The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.
Press and hold on the Power button.
Press and release the Up Volume key.
Release the Power button.
Press the Volume Down button repeatedly until wipe cache partition is highlighted, then select it with the Power button.
Press the Power key to select wipe cache partition.
Once complete, press the Power key again to select reboot system now.
You must be able to connect your phone without any issues

[Solved] How to apply OTA? (locked bootloader)

Hello,
I'm hit pretty hard by the screen responsiveness bug and would therefore like to apply the latest OTA which should fix the problem.
Link to the OTA: https://android.googleapis.com/pack...c2eb10ed760.signed-ryu-MXB48T-from-MXB48J.zip
Prerequisites: bootloader is locked (and I would like to keep it this way to not loose my data), adb is working
Sadly applying the update doesn't work for me as I can't boot into the "Apply update from adb" option. I have successfully paired the tablet with adb (adb devices shows the id) and using "adb reboot bootloader" I'm getting the broken Android with "No command" text below.
Pressing Power + Down I get fastboot
Pressing Power + Up I get the menu but none of the options give me the possibility to use adb sideload
Is adb sideload only possible if the bootloader is unlocked?
Atm my tablet is completely stock and I would like to keep it this way (or at least not loose any data).
Thanks for your help!
Well that is typical... after googling for quite some time, not finding anything, then posting and google again I've found the answer here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37993782&postcount=6
Once you get "no command" then hold power button and about a second after (if not less ) tap the +volume button . again just TAP the +volume button . don't hold the + volume button
Click to collapse
So I guess this is solved then....

[Q] BRICKED m8 wont boot up, go into bootloader mode or recovery

yesterday i unlocked the bootloader, and used ADB and FASTBOOT to flash TWRP 3.0.2 and then rooted by flashing superSU v2.76
the phone was still S-on
i attempted to modify the buildprop file and used TWRP to mount system and copy the file over to /system/
i did have other things ticked as being mounted, like /data and one other partition that escapes me now.
anyway, i copied the buildprop back and used CHMOD755 but thought choosing 644 would be better so i choose CHMOD but entered 0644 as it was asking for 4 characters. after hitting boot system the phone just went black, trying to boot into bootloader mode now doesn't work, nothing happens. the only way i get any sign of life out of the phone now is by holding volume up and power. then the phone will boot for about 5 to 6 secs before going black screened again.
so i can't boot, cant enter recovery or bootloader.
usb debuggung was ticked previously but i'm not sure i even have a working rom now. ADB fails to find a device and trying
Code:
abd reboot bootloader
just brings
Code:
error: device '(null)' not found
am i totally screwed ? or is this something i can fix ???

Connect to PC so you can hear connect/disconnect sound.
Press & hold power + volume up buttons to force reboot, once you hear the disconnect sound on PC, release both buttons and quickly press & hold volume down button. This will take you to hboot, select recovery and restore your backup or install ROM zip

connecting up to PC i don't get any "bing bong" sounds at all. if i try booting with volume up and power while connected to PC i still don't get the bing bong, quickly switching to holding volume down as you suggest doesn't stop the phone going back to black screen.
HEEEEELLLLP !!!!!
EDIT: additional info
the phone has been this way for a few hours now and twice in that time the phone has started booting up by itself (without me touching it), only to go back off again the same as every other time...
EDIT: after leaving the phone to go nuts all by itself and let the battery run down and recharging it, I was able to get back into bootloader mode and recovery to restore a backup.
I am now happily running GPe MM, and about to test out ElementalX

Android 11 not booting Magisk

Hello -
upgraded from Android 10 to 11 with Odin in the usual way.
However the old key combo no longer works. I managed to boot with magisk only once. Reflashed the magisk patched.
I can boot into recovery by insterting a USB-C headphone cable, pressing power on, then pressing volume-up and power on.
I only managed to boot into Magisk once "by accident". A long press on volume down with power causes the phone to reboot. A short press on volume down with power does nothing. A long press on volume up with power brings me into recovery.
Any hints? tried reflashing Android 10 but of course the bootloader doesn't let be because of rollback protection.
How does one boot into Magisk now that recovery needs a cable?
Thanks
Fixed. A module was causing Magisk not to load. Here is the incantation to load Magisk on a Note 10+ with that bad operating system:
a) on the computer:
1) install the latest adb
2) open a "powershell" (shift and right-click on an open space in the folder where adb has been extracted)
3) start the adb daemon with ./adb start-server
b) on the working phone
1) turn off USB debugging
2) revoke authorisations
3) turn on USB debugging
4) connect the phone to the computer with a cable - allow USB debugging from this computer "all the time" (not once!)
5) detach phone
6) turn off phone
c) on the computer:
1) give the command ./adb wait-for-device shell magisk --remove-modules
d) back to the phone
1) attach the phone to the computer
2) turn it on by pressing shortly just the power key, you will get a warning about "phone bad, bootlocker unloaded"
3) quickly press power and volume up, keep them pressed "a short while" (you will get it by trial and error)
4) you then will get a second triangle on the bottom saying press power to start
5) it will seem like the phone is stuck in the bootscreen, it's not
6) let it boot. The command in the "powershell" will execute, it won't show success or anything
7) the phone will reboot
8) unplug the phone from the computer
9) turn the phone off again
repeat steps d1 to d5. While the phone is booting "after some time" unplug it again from the computer
if you are lucky then maybe you booted up with Magisk and no modules.
Very simple and straight-forward. With the hardware key-attestation and this I see that Google and Samsung with every update are getting more friendly for the consumer. Somehow imho they don't understand that if Android users wanted an "applified" phone that they can't play with, they would get an apple.
Good luck
