[Solved] How to apply OTA? (locked bootloader) - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I'm hit pretty hard by the screen responsiveness bug and would therefore like to apply the latest OTA which should fix the problem.
Link to the OTA: https://android.googleapis.com/pack...c2eb10ed760.signed-ryu-MXB48T-from-MXB48J.zip
Prerequisites: bootloader is locked (and I would like to keep it this way to not loose my data), adb is working
Sadly applying the update doesn't work for me as I can't boot into the "Apply update from adb" option. I have successfully paired the tablet with adb (adb devices shows the id) and using "adb reboot bootloader" I'm getting the broken Android with "No command" text below.
Pressing Power + Down I get fastboot
Pressing Power + Up I get the menu but none of the options give me the possibility to use adb sideload
Is adb sideload only possible if the bootloader is unlocked?
Atm my tablet is completely stock and I would like to keep it this way (or at least not loose any data).
Thanks for your help!

Well that is typical... after googling for quite some time, not finding anything, then posting and google again I've found the answer here:

Once you get "no command" then hold power button and about a second after (if not less ) tap the +volume button . again just TAP the +volume button . don't hold the + volume button
Click to collapse
So I guess this is solved then....

[Q] How to get out of stock Android system recovery (power button won't select)

Okay here's the run down. I'm on JB and rooted, and was about to apply the new FreeGee bootloader unlock, when I wanted, out of sheer curiosity, to check to see if I could get into the stock recovery by holding powering off and then holding Vol Down + Power. Ever since I rooted it didn't seem to work anymore, but I didn't have a need to boot into since manually applying the JB update.
Anyway, neither Vol Down+Power of Vol Up+Power worked, the phone just booted normally. So, I decided to use ADB to boot into recovery using "adb reboot recovery". It worked, and the stock recovery loaded up. I can scroll up and down using the volume keys, but for some reason cannot select any option by pressing the power button. If I hold the power button down, the phone will appear to restart, but it boots right back into the stock Android system recovery, where again, I cannot simply select any choice with the power button. ADB doesn't list the device since I'm in recovery, and I only have fastboot installed on my lapton running XP which isn't available at the moment (I'm on OSX 10.6).
I'm thinking pulling the battery may work, but I don't have my torx screw driver handy. Anyone have any ideas? Perhaps where to get fastboot for OSX (it appears to still be missing from Android SDK). Thanks.
EDIT: SOLVED - Turns out in stock recovery, the soft menu button (the one on the bottom right) is used to make the selection, not the power button like in the custom recoveries. Still not sure why the Power+Vol. Down doesn't work to boot into the stock system recovery.
Use the menu button to select now.
what dm said. they wont be lit up but they still work
Yeah, I figured that out almost immediately after posting this (feel dumb now). Thanks though.
Any idea why the key combo Vol. Down + Power no longer works to boot into stock recovery? Seems odd that it worked before when manually updating to JB.
Hello. Can you tell me another solution. I have similar problem. Stuck in recovery mode with faulty power button, and can't get out of there. It's not working with menu button. Is there a way to do it with SD memory card? Thanks.

[Q] Root jelly bean verizon galaxy nexus phone without using the power button?

My power button died, and I'm trying to deal with it, found my way here about rooting the phone. It seems like all the instructions require the power button to select a mode or something. Is there a way to root the phone without the power button so I can use sweep to wake?

Soft-brick problem

I restored an lineage os update last night, then i restored a BOOT update that didnt belong to that rom and i`m in bootloop unable to enter recovery or enter bootload, my phone responds only to power button+ volume up ( it restarts), tried to connect fastboot and i get that device isnt found( its connected to usb ports, i installed htc sync manager for htc drivers)
What can i do to go into bootloader, because if i get there i flash twrp then restore the correct rom, but now its just bootloops in RR remix( it doesnt restart itself just loading loading )
Can i get some help with right drivers or something that i could use that command" adb reboot bootloader" and it wont answer with device not found
P.S I get the device in device manager but in adb just says "device not found"
P.S2 Close the thread, i let the phone fully discharge then Volume down + power and it entered fastboot and i was able to get to recovery, nvm

I know you fixed the problem, but for future reference, in the above scenario, as long as you can force a reboot (power+vol up); the moment the screen goes black to reboot, just slide your finger to vol down (no need to hold power button any longer) and keep holding it; and the phone will go to bootloader.

adb would never have worked in the condition your phone was in. The phone needs to be booted to OS or custom recovery for adb to work.

Retrieve files from the device with a broken screen

Hello,
I've tried to search the right thread but I didn't find anything.
I dropped my Oneplus 3 yesterday and the screen + digitizer don't work anymore, almost black...
I will try to repair on my own (~$100) but I would like to retrieve the pictures from the device first.
As my OP3 run out of battery, I can't switch it on again and enter the PIN to plug it on my computer using USB cable. I guess the only way I have is to use ADB and "pull" the folder.
I installed ADB + USB drivers.
I hold down POWER + VOLUME DOWN when the devices is off. I saw some video on Youtube about recovery and press the following buttons :
- back (to choose between languages)
- Volume Down (x2) + Power to select English
- Volume Down + Power to select "Install from ADB" => But I am not sure this is the right menu. One of the Youtube video show that "Install from ADB" is the first choice, whereas on another video, this same entry is the second choice.
When I enter "adb devices" on my computre, I can read the serial + sideload. I guess I can't use this mode to copy files from my device. If I try to enter "adb usb" or "adb shell [...]" I get "error: closed"
I have never rooted nor installed a custom recovery on my device, only installed the official OTA update.
Does someone can help me? I do not know if I need to install something (custom recovery) or any other manipulation.
How can I know what is the menu of the recovery?
Many thanks, I hope you will be able to help me.
um, have you unlocked bootloader? else you could use the rooting tool kit posed somewhere in this forum and unlock bootloader, then install custom recovery, then timed yourself to enter the recovery since you will have the "your device is not secure screen". or just the backup option right in the toolkit which will back up everything, including your os, ect. But I don't remember if those backup file is operable on the pc, however it is worth a try since you can just install the backup again after your screen is done.

I didn't unlock the bootloader. But can I do that without the screen and without being able to boot the device?
The thing I would like to know is the detailed menu when I hold down "power + volume up/down" buttons, I don't know where I can find that and what can help me.
I think unlocking bootloader will wipe everything, so doesn't really help you. And u need custom recovery to use adb pull command which you can't flash since you need unlocked bootloader.

That tool is for Samsung phones. You should have mentioned it.
I have the same issue and am trying what the OP tried. I was really hoping someone might have provided the correct sequence of buttons to press in order to get the adb pull command to work... Is anyone able to access this menu on an up-to-date OnePlus 3 (UK) and provide the menu layout, please?

[SOLVED] Stuck on "Your device has been unlocked"

This is my first time attempting to flash a ROM but I haven't even got as far as getting to TWRT. I have followed these instructions...
wiki DOT lineageos DOT org SLASH devices SLASH ether SLASH install
....up to flashing TWRP onto the phone. Attempting to reboot into recovery per the next instruction, the phone's screen hangs on:
Your device has been unlocked and Nextbit OS can't be checked for tampering.
Your device will continue booting in 5 seconds.
Fine, except it does not continue booting. The screen is frozen, and neither pressing nor long holding either the power button or either of the volume buttons does anything. `adb devices` in a terminal does not see the phone, so I can't force a reboot that way. What's my next step?
Solved
The solution was easy, though it took a while to find it. Long pressing vol down + power for several seconds took me to fastboot, and I was able to continue from there.
how did you continue cuz i am not able to restart the device or access it from ADB

the same problem, did you fix it?
Sometimes, you need to press vol down + power for about a minute to reboot.
