Hi, I have rooted my device and installed a custom recovery. But that's it, haven't installed any new ROM, and still have the stock one witch it came with.
Today I received an update message, so I downloaded the new update, and as it should be, it requested a reset.
After the reset, the device boot himself into the recovery, ans apparently refuses to boot into the new rom, or anywhere but the recovery.
I performed a full wipe, and did a system restore. And still it always boot into the recovery.
Its a "Team Win" recovery v2.6.3.2
Help please.

I dont remember man...
I last time I rooted a device it was a Galaxy S2, and I cracked opened the **** out of him, and something like this never happened to me..
As I told, I did a system restore, why it still doesnt boot anywhere beyond the recovery?
One more thing,
After I manage to turn it off, it starts immediately as I plug in the power, but stops on the "Logo" and with this title in the up right corner: "Secure boot error! Cause: Device Unlock, so Boot Success"
Thats it... got this message and doesnt boot... After I unplug the power, it boots into recovery, and only then (whie unplug) I can order it to power off.
Iam desperate..
Ok, now I think I am truly Fckd up...
I accidentally deleted the only restore file I had... witch didn't quit helped me the one time I launched it.. but anyways, now even this one is gone.
So now I stuck with god know what system.. (I did launched the restore, bit it didnt helped).
I do have a working recovery, and thats it. Please help me restore the device to fully stoke.

Not sure. I was thinking Mahdi or Cyanogenmod. A complete ROM. If the 4.4.2 is a complete ROM, then yes. The update you are trying won't affect the recovery, correct?

Yes.. the update didnt effected the recovery, and from my experience it shouldnt... (the update is for the ROM, witch was stock)
Thats why I didnt install a custom ROM from the beginning, I wanted a rooted device, but for now I wanted to stay with stock ROM. After receiving an update message, I didnt think for a second that the root and the custom recovery will effect the update...
Maybe this update had something to do with the recovery... and because mine is custom, I have this issue...
Iam not an expert in the LG field, so Iam not familiar with those effects, the update caused...
Can you please look at the installation guide in the link I gave, and check if it is doable on my device.
Thank you for the help! :good:

Good evening everyone!
I've recently wanted to update my Hercules from 4.1 (I know it's reeealy outdated) to version 6.0 Marshmallow.
So I did a few steps and now I cant' seem to go any further, and I need your help.
So far, I've done the following:
-Installed TWRP 2.8.7.0
-Used Odin to flash the TWRP mentioned above
Now, I know there are a few problems regarding this version of the TWRP on the Hercules, so I tried fixing it by using Odin again and flashing the updated 2.8.7.1 and even the 3.0 version that I found on some threads, but with no sucess.
I haven't even had the chance to install Marshmallow on my phone in the first chance, because I couldn't find any .ZIP folders on the TWRP instalation menu.
I really appreciate your help guys, I'm a noob at this and I'm just starting to figure what is what, I just need my phone updated. It's running so far atleast, so it's not hard bricked I guess.
Did you follow the instructions to flash TWRP using Odin?

I'm pretty sure I did everything I was intended to do. I installed Samsung Kies so I could install the drivers on my mobile, and then TWRP through Odin properly with the blue light showing up. After flashing it, it turned green and said PASS or PASSED. So I think I did everything right on that end, I can even access TWRP with no real problems.
I even tried to do a ROOT on my system, but again, I couldn't use ZIP or any other files on the TWRP installation option because they simply do not appear
bump
Watching this thread as I have the same problem.
I can boot to TWRP 2.8.7, but if I try to install, there's no file to install from.
I can go back to TWRP 2.6.0, and then mount the card and see the ROM, but every ROM I try fails. Something about non-virtual partitions if I try 4.4 or better, and error executing updater binary if i try 4.1

I don't know of any problems with any of the recoveries. However there are different recoveries for different roms which need to be used in a specific order and in a specific way, the first time that you virtually repartition your phone.
Have you gone through the process of applying the "virtual partition" and installing the modified "virtual partition" recovery? This is required for most of the MM roms on this phone (Hercules). The process is very well documented here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2-tmobile/help/guidance-sgh-t989-updating-issue-t3414641 in the #2nd post.

No, I dont' take I have taken that step actually. I'm pretty new to this and I tried following every step correctly, but I know that I failed or skipped something at some extent and I've been trying to figure out what exactly, so I can fix it. I guess I need to Virtual Partition my phone then, could you post me the link do to so? Because I think you posted one that would take back to this post

I shut it down in TWRP then hold volume down and power to go into download mode.
My phone has gone backwards now though - it doesn't matter what I load in Odin now, it won't boot up. The SAMSUNG screen is on, with a progress bar, but it never gets to the end. It stops right near the end and it sits there until I reboot it again.
Hi guys,
As soon as I got the OP3 in July, I somehow managed to successfully perform all the steps to get it rooted. I was running OnePlus3Oxygen_16_OTA_013_all_1608061823_765c081a5c8e4dad.zip
OnePlus has been showing me a "new version available" since September, but I very patiently and calmly didn't install it OTA because I didn't want to lose the root.
Finally had a bit of time today, decided I'd finally upgrade. Looked around for the "most recent stable version" and picked this one: OnePlus3Oxygen_16_OTA_035_all_1612310359_e10cadfb2af7.zip
Followed the steps for flashing using TWRP (twrp-3.0.2-1.28-oneplus3) here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/oxygenos-4-0-android-nougut-official-t3529684
It worked. Yay. Then (god dammit **** ****) I still saw this "new version available" and couldn't swipe it away... I accidentally clicked it and it downloaded the OTA. Fine.
Now I'm stuck in a TWRP boot loop. I tried re-installing the OTA_035.zip from TWRP -- I tried restoring my Nandroid Backup (only had enough room to save "Boot / Recovery / System" partitions, NOT data) -- and I tried ADB Sideloading 16_OTA_013.zip.
I'm stuck rebooting in TWRP 3.0.2-1.
Is there anything I can try before going ballistic and wiping my data?
Thanks.
Marc

Hey Puddi_Puddin, thanks for replying.
I never heard of blu-spark, but gave it a shot. Even though the guide seems to apply only to OP3T: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...-or-custom-recovery-without-data-loss.479265/
Anyways I flashed blu-spark with ADB. Booted into blu-spark. Wiped Dalvik/Cache, re-installed OnePlus3Oxygen_16_OTA_035_all_1612310359_e10cadfb2af7.zip, wiped Dalvik/Cache, rebooted -- keeps booting into blu-spark TWRP.
Get the "device unlocked" error screen, then the dm-verity error screen, then the OnePlus logo for about 2 seconds, and then back to blu-spark. Repeat ad nauseum.
What state is my device even in? I wouldn't call it bricked... I assume it's still rooted, bootloader works, I can flash different TWRP versions, ...
Any other ideas ... ?

After you've flashed the full zip, flash also the latest stable version of SuperSu (2.79) and latest TWRP from @eng.stk (the v11, it solves the dm-verity error). Then reboot to recovery, it should appear TWRP and the error should't appear.

You mean 3.0.2-19 or 23. Not blu_spark, right? Ok I tried twrp-3.0.2-23-oneplus3.img from here (https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862684308)
I tried flashing my old images I used last year (I just wanted the phone to boot into *something*) Oxygen_16_OTA_013 & SuperSU-v2.74. Managed to boot. Updated 4 Apps (??) But as soon as the login screen came up, it would reboot ... and keep looping. So I couldn't use the phone, but at least I managed to boot into something other than TWRP.
Next I tried to reinstall OOS4, 16_OTA_035 with SuperSU-v2.79 SR2. Still get the verity error, but at least I managed to boot! But - the phone is *super* buggy/unusable... SIM cards aren't working - I can't access my options screen - and "Developer options are not available for this user".
Now from my "About" screen I have OOS 4.0, Android 7.0, Kernel version 3.18.31-perf+ [email protected] <-- (that's from my TWRP version. right?)
Did the OTA I install from OnePlus directly screw everything up? For that brief moment before I installed it, I tasted a seemingly properly working OOS 4, so I know it's possible...
A few lessons I've learned are -- I can use any recovery (TWRP) to use MTP and flash files and stuff... but in order for the phone to work properly, I have to a) flash the SuperSU (not just the ROM) and b) make sure I have the "correct/proper" TWRP (kernel?) matched with each ROM. Is that kind of right? That's where I'm stuck I guess.

I'm also a bit confused about the best version of SuperSU-v2.79 to use, because blu_spark was writing somewhere (can't find where) that SR1 and SR2 were the cause of battery issues ... So yeah, I've got other things to try, but should the ROM from OOS4.0.1 work with any of them?
THANKS.

Unfortunately I haven't tried to update the phone yet, so I don't know what else you can do. But you can also follow the guide posted by @Viper The Ripper here:

In my opinion, the only thing you can try is to make a data backup from recovery to any external storage (like a pendrive) by Otg, but it takes some risks. In case this partition has been damaged, you can get issues when you install the rom.
The safest you can do is clean installation in spite of you lose data so, full wipes and a new full rom.

You have to install stock recovery, and then reboot into recovery, you will have a instalation error, reboot and loop solved Then, you can flash your twrp and su without loosing data

Yes, I was on f2fs before this happens, so I only have to install all without formating data. You should do a manual backup to do that, once on recovery, you be able to enter phone data partition from windows. Copy all folders you want to save before formating to f2fs in recovery. Other setup and configuration like ringtones and stuff, all cache and configuration of apps, wallpaper, led, colors and themes... you will lost it. I don't know how to backup that, but its the worst part of formating data... google backup doesn't save all the config
You will start with the android phone start menu, like new, with new dactilar and patron security, etc...
@Zingapuro
Try TWRP 3.0.2_19 and Supersu 2.79 stable. For some people this works and according to eng. stk, only Supersu 2.79 stable is compatible with N.

Tried flashing twrp-3.0.2-19-oneplus3.img and from TWRP installing:
OnePlus3Oxygen_16_OTA_037_all_1701041839_aa64b084a40a4.zip
UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.79-20161211114519.zip
Same issues as described above: boots into 4.0.1, but buggy, SIM cards don't work, no Dev options, etc...

Yeah, I have a feeling this is my only choice. This is the next thing I'll try.

Great!
I think you can edit the thread title
Boot into your recovery [Vol+ and Power]
Connect your phone to your PC
Execute the following fastboot command on your PC (More informations on fastboot)
Code:
fastboot continue
Your phone will start right away. :good:
Just got my nexus 5x a few weeks ago through google fi, got the phone rooted and TWRP installed. Got a message saying that an update was available, it downloaded and i restarted. Next time I looked at the phone it had loaded into TWRP. I booted into system, and the phone is still on 7.1.1, and if I try to run an update check it comes back saying I'm up to date... Anyone else have that issue, or suggestions?

It was your root and TWRP that prevented 7.1.2 update. Either flash factory images or use flashfire app to update..

Thanks, I'll look at the flashfire. I'm debating trying lineageOS, but I'm hesitant to mess with a new phone too much.

Check out section 9. I do this with every new release and it works fine. I flash the files followed by TWRP and then Magisk/SuperSU

Oooohhhh, Danke! I think I used that guide when I rooted my phone to begin with.
Ok, dumb question, if I flash the OTA image, does that wipe data?

No, if you follow step 9 and not the others, you will keep all data. You do need to download the whole factory image and not the OTA as you cant use that to update since you are rooted and have TWRP installed. Use this link for the latest image - https://developers.google.com/android/images?hl=en#bullhead

Yes, the new 7.1.2 doesn't have cache file. I just got the one from the 7.1.1 build and used that.

This worked great, thanks. Only issue I met was that I couldn't see the OEM unlock switch, so it didn't let me to flash TWRP from Odin (even though it was already unlocked), giving me "only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed(recovery)" error.
The solution for that was following these steps: https://www.xda-developers.com/fix-...y-s9-samsung-galaxy-s8-samsung-galaxy-note-8/
EDIT: no wait, maybe it's bootlooping.
EDIT2: yes it is. I'm using italian carrier, you?
EDIT3: at the end I created a custom boot.img by using Magisk and I flashed it. In this way I kept encryption and stock recovery, but this doesn't give me write permissions in /system. But I do have root.
it stucks for me on the samsung logo

I got it to work on a Bulgarian unlocked model
Maybe try flashing the twrp flashable firmware after the mod
omg it was so easy!
after you flashed twrp and formated data you just have to flash magisk and that's it

I done that, but still stuck on SAMSUNG logo, no boot loop or what. I was waiting 10min, nothing happened.
Any advice?
Hi there,
after having tried different methods to root my S9, which has updated to Android 10 One UI 2.0 this morning, maybe the solution that finally worked for me will help you too.
First I tried to root just like in Pie, as found on the net: flashed TWRP 3.2.3 via Odin, then flashed Magisk with TWRP plus this no-verity-opt-encrypt. Got stuck in bootloop, tried different no-verity/dm-verity versions, Magisk 18.x and Magisk 20.1. Nothing worked, got stuck again every time i rebootet the system again.
Then, after realising that I CANT get back to Android 9 (old rom wasnt Odin flashable anymore, phone didnt boot, BSoD), I first downloaded the new stock rom and bootloader as zip, got it from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81615561&postcount=1830.
You have to check if that fits with your version / phone. Once downloaded, I copied both onto my SD card. So now I was able to install at least the new clean stock rom. Oh, and now I used the TWRP version 3.3.1.
Then I found this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/development/root-s9plus-exynos-android10-t4065343
At first I tried to root without the SoLdieR9312's mod, only with MAGISK 20.3 and no-verity. Stuck again, it only bootet to download mode, nothing else. So flashed again the clean stock rom, and after first not keeping the right order (I suppose) I finally followed EXACTLY the instructions 1 - 4 in above manual including SoLdieR9312's mod (I highly recommend first a complete Wipe, format data, and then flash the clean new Rom with Android 10 and bootloader from above link).
Now, to save you the time I spent today: once your phone is bootet (and succesfully rooted via Magisk 20.3, which will happen automatically due to the SoLdieR9312's mod), DONT LET MAGISK UPDATE TO VERSION 20.4!!!! Magisk Manager asks you to update, but when I did update to 20.4, everything fell apart again, it only bootet to download mode.
Now I seem to have it stable and running with 20.3 and the [email protected]. I rebootet 5 times so far just for the sake of it, and it works fine and rootet.
If I can be of further help, please let me know. I spent the last 12 hours on this matter, so dont hesitate.
Greetz from me minus a bunch of nerves
PS: After I wrote the above, I deleted the Knox family in the rootet system, and then it collapsed again and, after BSoD, it only rebootet into download mode. I can not exclude the possibility, that this might have been the reason for some system breakdowns before, as I had to re-do the wipe-clean-install-then-root-then-customize worksteps aroung 8 times yesterday before it was stable as it is now. Now I´ll leave Knox on it, though that itches me a bit. But I´m exhausted for now
PPS: IMPORTANT when I try to create a PIN or a pattern for the lock screen, phone reboots to SIM card PIN screen and then keeps rebooting and rebooting. It looks like there are some interferences with root and PIN / security. I did NOT create a Samsung account, only a google one, cause in the beginning i suspected it might have been a Sam acct problem (I constantly couldnt log into it on the phone). Turns out that might not have been the case, rather a prob between root and setting a lock screen security.
