I'm not 100% convinced about how good this camera is.
I heard the mate 9 had an update which made the camera better. Will this apply to us as well?
my note 7 camera was 100 times better. I'm quite disappointed with this.
The mate 9 with update was better. Had both.
I have the Mate 9 Pro, which is the same hardware as the PD. Camera is IMO worse than the one in my iPhone 7 (not Plus). Front camera takes very yellow photos. Optical stabilizer is working too hard on the rear camera.

Hi!
I've just downloaded the Google camera and to be honest the results are pretty good!
Have a play and see what you think..
BTW.. Definitely get the sim tray thing looked into.. It should be conpletely flush

The demo phone in three individual stores in the nearest town center, Aalborg, suffered from the same "issue".
What is this "Google camera" you are talking about?

S7 Edge doesn't impress me particularly, either - too brown/yellow in the tint on the rear camera for my liking.
Quite pleased with this pic..
Not often I get to take artsy pics but I'm thinking this one is worth sharing.
I think that camera is pretty good in even low light situations, it takes pretty good shots.
I take back what i said about the camera...
Took a pic of a plane in the air..
I then zoomed in and took another pic...
Also took some pics of my kid on a rather fast fair ride and he came out completely clear!
Impressed!
The camera is for me quite good but in low light it is not as good as my xperia x performance. The colours could be more vivid though

I am in the process of either buying a P20, or an S9. This is a 35 vs 40 euro per month question (10 total as I need two phones) and since it is 2 years contract I am very interested in the reliability part of the phone, hardware, and software wise.
I am interested in using the phone mainly for communication calls/whatsapp, but also very important for taking pictures and recording videos. No gaming for me.
Reviews, in general, are very good about the P20, but reviews are short-lived usage experiences, and my only experience with Huawei (a Hero 6X), has not been very good: slow to update, the phone freezes from time to time (it is obviously not a flagship, I know), so I was wondering, now that you have (hopefully) used the phone for a while, will you get a P20 or an S9 if you had the chance?
As a former user of the S7 Edge, I tend to think the Samsung is a more reliable phone, but I wanted to hear from real users here.
Thank you.
Asking this in the S9 forums, you're going to be getting answers from people who have already bought the S9 mostly, would be better off asking in the S7 Edge forums where people are yet to decide
Why not buy an S9 and a P20 and have the best of both worlds if you're getting two phones anyway?
Also you can review each of them against each other for other people

I've never had the P20 and never heard of it's reviews, I just want to point out that Samsung also sucks when it comes to software update. Imagine that the May security patch is not yet available through OTA for my device and yet already available in the firmware downloads in sammobile. If you want to get the latest firmwares available you should do it manually through Odin though.
If you're not into gaming, this phone is really fast, and when I said fast, blazing fast. Even though 4gb ram makes other apps reload, it doesnt even bother because they load up really fast. I cant complain much of this phone when it comes to speed.
When it comes to camera, I really like the HDR of this phone and all the features implemented in the camera app itself. It takes really good photos with great exposures (thanks to the improved HDR capability). However, I am not really into Samsung's "smoothening" process, as it makes the photo look smooth, lacking of details. The only way to counterpart that is to enable RAW format in pro mode or use a third party camera app like the gcam port with working HDR+, I use it everytime I found the stock cam's HDR suffering from harsh sunlight and everytime I needed that extra crisp in photos.
Battery? Hhmm. I used to care a lot about phone's battery. I used to disable most apps and features just to get more juice out of it. The least battery I got was about 4h of SOT amd to be honest, Im pretty happy with that. Then, I realized why would I buy a premium phone and then disable most of its features. So I reset my phone and enjoyed it as it is. AOD yeah boy, fast charging will keep me back as soon as possible.
Overall, you cant go wrong with the S9. Speaker with dolby atmos is amazing. I feel like Im watching movies in cinema, for real! I only hate about this phone is that it doesnt have international warranty. Yes it may be a different case with others, this phone was bought in Dubai and then brought here in the Philippines. I wouldnt been so worried until last 3 days that I found out that my phone is affected with "dead zone spots" in screen, and now I've got to deliver it back to Dubai to get it fixed.

Owned the Huawei P20 Pro. If you want good photos, you'll forget about the Huawei.
Oversharpen, blur, bad edge detection, people looking like oil paintings.
The software is bad.

I was testing both S9+ and P20Pro in the store and...S9+ is a killer I don't see any bad sides besides that fingerprint button on the back...but nowadays its on every phone.
P20Pro...I almost bought it but when I saw how it record videos, I put it out. It's horrible. 60fps is in real 50fps. Bad OIS, video stutters when recording...and little less stuttering when on playback...S9+ feels like a finished, polished product. P20Pro was like...meh, a toy with unfinished software. I don't like it. But huge PLUS for fingerprint sensor under screen and all these gestures with it.
I bought S9+ 2 weeks ago and I'm so happy about it. Perfect phone. I changed from S7 flat (smaller version).
Record videos like..wow. Genius stabilization even with EIS off, nice photos, really big and amazing screen and loud and quality stereo speakers.
I will probably change to S10 next year when they'll implement underscreen fingerprint sensor
If you have any more questions, feel free to tag me. Cheers!

Thanks, S9+ is another option, but I think I am going to go with S9 this time. Main differnce I see are more battery, more screen, adn more camera, but more expensive
I not really big fan of huawei, I'm a Samsung user from a long time, I'm pretty impressed with the camera, Software UI, and some other stuff... I don't really like huawei's Software and Camera quality is damn too low as compared to Samsung...
I would suggest you to go with samsung... but its upto you

Tend to use the stock app most of the time as 99% of the time it produces a perfect picture for me, I also have 'open camera' and the 'moment camera' apps installed as well to play around with as well.
As a side not, I use a Rode mic for filming video as not a fan of the quality of the mics on the phone
If we only can have g gcam v6 with night sight and googles great HDR+

I come from Sammy Note 8 to, yaa and mi max 3, honor 8x max, honor note 10 and now mate 20X.
I love all those phones lots more then the Note 8 which i sold after 10 days. I only like phablets with big display and Sammy note is no longer in this category after the ratio aspect 18-19/9 becomes standards, sooo saaddd. I really miss my old loving 16/9 and my old Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra a lot 6,8 inch and 16/9.

I hear ya. My favorite phone was the first Note Edge (with the one edge). Nice width and the edge had some useful apps associated with it. If it wasn't for the poor battery life I might still be using it!
Can someone please post the stock camera apk from M20X AL00 (china) version? The video record stopped working on mine and want to see if reinstalling it will fix it.

i think the recording will still be using the mic from the phone....in samsung camera app, there is setting to control the source....
try recording with you microphone...pulling it near and away from your voice....i think it will remain same volume....which means recording takes place at the phone..

I couldnt ignore this post because I am the same way..I had a Sony Z Ultra, a Mediapad X2 and a Sony Z3 Tablet Compact (which I still have) as my phones but I wanted something more modern and oh boy, since all this trend of bagette shaped phones, it has been a struggle for me to find anything half decent. Finally settled on the Mate 20x which as awesome as it is, still feels so freaking tiny. Having a hard time adapting to the smaller phone but on the other side..damn this phone has great features!
I've just had my new Mate 20 X for a week and overall love the phone.
But the biggest gripe I have with this phone is the retard camera app. Why is it that when the app is set for 40MP resolution on the main camera, it will disable access to the wide-angle and telephoto lenses? This makes no sense what so ever mainly because the default 10MP setting absolutely sucks.. absurd over processing, contrast and sharpening. The best quality and most natural looking images I get is by using the 40MP setting with the main camera (under good lighting conditions). But then if I want to use the wide-angle or tele lens for a particular shot, I have to go back into Settings, fall back to the default 10MP option just so there is access to the other lenses. This is really really so bad. Why isn't there a setting of simply bring able to usr all the of 3 sensors' full native resolution instead of having to fall back to 10MP picture size just to be able to switch cameras? Is there a workaround this or another camera app than can work in a more logical way than the Huawei's camera app?
This aside, I love the phone.. great batter life, super fast, incredible overall build quality, really awesome hardware.. maybe the last great phone from Huawei for the foreseeable future as things look pretty grim for them. But the camera app, wow.. what a nightmare.
Anyway, maybe I'm doing something wrong and I haven't figured it out yet.. tanks in advance for any advice.
I've just got the Note 10+ 5G coming from a Huawei Mate 20 Pro and the camera on this is disappointing to say the least. I haven't tested it in good lighting conditions, but in low light the Mate 20 Pro wipes the floor with this.
I can't actually believe just how big the difference is. Unless I'm doing something wrong? For a start, I can't find where you set the resolution of the cameras. Or can you not select it?
I also coming from Mate 20 Pro and Pixel 3 XL. And also not very happy with the camera. Yes, Mate 20 Pro is better at night indeed but not at day time. Pixel 3 XL seems took better pictures most of the time . Apart from that, the phone overall is much better that anything I had before.
I have an 11 pro max and n10+. I brought both to my brothers house on Christmas to take photos of my family. I used the iPhone and note side by side. The note absolutely couldn’t handle trying to catch my nephew in motion. I used the iPhone for most of the night and every shot was beautiful and not grainy in medium light. Not pleased with the note camera at all.

That's the main reason I sold my wifes S10+ and bought a Pixel 4. Nearly impossible to take pics of people while moving.

I agree. My OnePlus 7 Pro takes better photos indoors than my Note 10 +. During the day there's little difference but indoor photos are blurry if anyone moves even slightly on the N10+. It seems like with each update it has gotten worse but it could just be because I have been taking more photos in different places because of the holidays and never noticed that it was that bad.

Interesting, I actually had this issue with the OP 7 Pro. If subjects were completely still, I'd do ok and get them in the shot nicely, but as soon as there was movement, or it came time to take pictures of people at night, it did pretty bad.

I only have one nephew and I feel like these years as a baby are very important for me to document and the most basic function of good pictures are sometimes very hard to achieve with the note camera. Maybe I’ll give it a try again with the note 11.
I've cleared the camera app data, reset the camera settings and wiped the cache partition and after restarting the phone it seems to have sorted itself out.
I'll do some more testing and see how it performs now.

I might try the S11 but I am definitely going to wait until others report back. The two best cameras this year are the Pixel 4 and Iphone 11 pro max. I had the pro max for almost two weeks and the camera is great but returned it because of ios being so restrictive. If it wasn't for that I would have kept it. The flat screen, build quality and camera are top notch.

My issue with the camera comes when the lighting isn't the best and the subject is moving. If the lighting is in full daylight it works great besides over smoothing with the processing. I really hope Samsung fixes all this with the S11. If not I will look elsewhere.
I totally agree with all of you. If my grandson moves even just a little picture is very very blurry. And forget about taking pictures while my son is playing basketball.

I know exactly how you feel. I have a 7 week old and a 22 month old. I need those pictures to be perfect to capture there moments. Perfect example for today. My wife and I took out eldest son to the park. He was on the swing and she was able to capture our son swinging in live focus or portrait mode or whatever you want to call it perfectly with 0 blur on her Pixel 4. I know my Note 10+ would not be able to do that.

It seems like as OnePlus updated the camera got better and as Samsung updated the camera got worse. It's very strange.
You guys need to learn to use pro mode on the camera.
The pictures in bad light looks good!
I know the Mate does better pure night shots and that's ok, but the Note is pretty good when using the right settings.

All of the 2019 Samsungs choose a lower shutter speed vs my 4XL and P30 for any given scene this is IMO why they struggle with any movement at all. I sold my Note 10+ before Christmas but picked up a second hand S10 as I found one in Cardinal red! Camera between the two is pretty much identical. Pro mode and effectively shooting in shutter priority helps a little but then you then get a little more of that Samsung smoothing plus you cannot do this if you want to use night mode. I just think that Samsung used the same main camera hardware this year as they did with the S9 and we are paying the price.
A good example below of my cat over Christmas, S10, P30 Pro and 4XL. Pixel and P30 are close the Samsung way behind, not like the cat was jumping around either. Samsung is the first one
I haven't had time yet to proper play with all settings, but why don't you guys use gcam if you're not happy with the Samsung camera app.
I've got the note10+ 5g and am still on latest android 9 patch as 10 update isn't out for my 5g version yet.
Both with Samsung camera and gcam I don't get blurry pictures when trying to catch my 5 year old twins when they're jumping up and down. Believe me, they will NOT sit still for anything, let alone a picture. Although gcam seems to edge it slightly on the no blur front.
So maybe give that a whirl.
Hi to all
I watch so many YT videos about camera comparison and see so many bad things about S20U camera. Is that because still camera software in beta or it is just what S20U is?
I watch S20U vs:
- Note 10 Plus,
- Huawei P40 Pro,
- Xiaomo Mi10,
- Iphone 11 Pro
And yes S20U have new big camera sensor but still they are no big improvements in night shoot's, astophotography, zoom, night videos, portret and etc.. And every phone have better camera in most situation. Whats wrong with S20U? Will Samsung fix this with software updates?
All the best
Not quite sure how you think most phones have a better camera but from someone who ACTUALLY has an S20U I can tell you this camera is fantastic. And with every update will continue to get better and better.
Feel free to not purchase it though. It isn't for everyone.

Come on now. You know that's not exactly true. This phone has pretty serious camera issues, from poor optics to focus problems, etc. It's not a terrible camera, but it is not worth the price tag. Samsung has to do a lot more work on the software side to make it better. I've had the phone since launch and while updates did improve things, it still falls short compared to other flagships. Both iPhone 11 Pro and Pixel 4 take better photos (I have those phones too), as does Note 10+ in most cases (I have it too for comparison). With that said, it is possible to take good photos with the S20 Ultra, so it's not all bad.
If anyone bought the Ultra Solely for the camera then that was Dumbassville! Other than the camera however The 120hz screen rocks, 5g works good depending on your coverage area. It's also a speedy phone. At least my US Unlocked 512gb version is. But if your buying the phone expecting a mobile photography studio like Samsung is hyping in their ads you can forget that BS now because that's what it is. Just plain BS! That is not to say the cameras can't take good pictures or the software won't get better. It just means if your expecting a DSLR or Wonder Miracle camera on a phone it ain't happening. There is a reason those $10,000 DSLR lenses take great night time photos and cost so much. You will never achieve that quality on a phone camera.
I'm one of the few people who buys phone not for the camera but making receiving calls, YouTube media consumption social networking camera is bottom of the list.
I think the camera and video is brilliant and better then most flagship. Its good for an average consumer use for expert photographers not to sure as don't know enough. The good thing is most of us aren't experts.
I prefer the s20 plus as its slimmer and has less protruding camera. Its better buy then huawei as g services are missing and better software and screen. Better then oppo due to mainly software and less curved screen. Oppo could have been my choice were it not for the curved screen. I hate that, most overrated and wasted tech.
Thats my rant and impression of Samsung s20.

That would make more sense than paying 17% more for a 6% larger screen. The battery is also 11% larger, but the plus is also lighter and thinner, especially at the camera bump. The cameras are the most significant difference between the two, it would only make sense for that to be the main motivating factor in paying the premium (especially considering the plus is tending to get marked down more).

The camera is literally the one reason to go for the Ultra vs. the Plus. Screen and battery size difference are insignificant in this decision, so no, Samsung does need to step up and make the Ultra worthy of its name. With that said, I am not expecting DSLR quality. I have a 5D Mark IV and some very high end lenses and know the difference. However, matching or beating the Pixel 4 series or the iPhone 11 Pro shouldn't be a problem for the camera setup on the Ultra, except Samsung botched the implementation badly.

Pay 1400$ for S20U
- BATTERY not good than 11 pro max or oppo find x2 or p40 pro
- Exynos 990 so bad ( ex 990 < kirin 990 < sd 865)
- Camera can not take the moment well as iphone or other phone. Can't focus well, but photo and video day light is ok.
- screen ok but oppo find x2 pro's screen are better
Sorry for my bad english.
