My device has recently stopped quick charging. Instead it's charging but an absolutely slow rate. I've read that the device temperature can cause this but even after having it warm by playing videos it doesn't rapid charge...
It's stating that it's charging rapidly but the estimated full charge is about 5 minutes for every minute it's actually stating.
I've factory reset the device to no avail, changed cables and charging plugs.
Honestly, this is putting me off buying another pixel device - my Pixel 1 XL suffered with screen burn. I'm just tired of the device breaking after having it since July 2018.
Does anyone have any advice before I start the ball rolling with the warranty?

I agree cleaning the USB port might help.
I had a charge rand Phone overheating issue and it was that some water was in the port.
Even dust has metal particulates, so cleaning it and making sure no dust or water is in, is a great idea.
Cleaning the port worked for me few weeks ago,i had to try a few times with a toothpick
So I've cleaned the charging port. The device when screen is off is coming back charging at 850mah when I plug it in with the screen on it charges at 1000mah.
Can someone send me over what there's charges at after having the phone screen off after half an hour?
I think there's something wrong with the battery, just doesn't feel like it's charging like it used to.
This is what the ampere is showing when I've plugged in the device.
To put this in perspective.
Here's my old Nexus 6P.
Can someone show me what their Ampere shows when the device has just been plugged in and then what it's like when it's been on charge for a while?
That way I can have an understanding as to what a Pixel 2 XL should be charging at.

Weirdly the device seems to be charging okay today. I'm gonna see how it goes, probably warranty if it happens again.
First, that app isn't the most accurate way to measure charging.
Second, fast charging is at it's fastest when the battery capacity is low. So below 20% you'll get the highest number. Your screenshots are 73% and higher.
So typically for me, I gain 70-75% in 60 minutes when I start at 5-10% and don't interrupt it with use. It's been like that since I've gotten the phone October 2017.

Some screenshots showing this morning's charge. By the way, going from 80% to 90% is slow, and 90% to 100% is very slow. That's why when I'm topping off, I just unplug at 1 hour or around 80% because it's a waste of time to wait any longer.

Okay, so I've just let my phone charge whilst off as it was drained completely. It was the full length of a breaking bad episode (rewatching).
Pick up the phone its very cold to touch, I then turn the phone on, it's at 20%.
A device for 40 minutes doesn't go from 0-20% when it's using a fast charger... I should be on at least 50% maybe even 75%

Very strange. Stock charger right? Don't think it would matter but I've never charged with the phone off. I would try to replicate what I showed you in screenshots. 15% plug it in, phone on but screen off, set a timer for 1 hour, return and see where you're at.

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem l.
My pixel 2 XL stopped charging at all of the sudden and only accepts slow charging and with a "Chinese" cable. The original cable doesn't work. No the cable ain't broken or the charger. My girlfriend has a pixel 3 and she uses my charger and cable and works on hers. We used also her charger and cable ( from pixel 3s ) and on her pixel 3 everything works comes to mine it doesn't even recognize to start charging.

Last night I drained again, charged with another stock charger I have, completely different house - was at my partners house. Again 35 minutes, switched off, 13%.
I'm going to have to call my insurance company, I get insurance with my bank - I'll have to pay an excess but they should be able to sort it I think.

This what you're experiencing sounds different to my issue.
My device fast chargers when it's plugged in. I have read that the Pixel 2 XL charges at a massively slower rate if the battery is at 20 degrees or below - this is unacceptable as the phone switched on, the battery till be always below that.

So I'm having a problem where I drained my battery and the phone shut itself off with 1% to 2% battery life remaining. I've left it charging for a good 45 minutes now. Turned it on, and it reported 1%. Thinking that it was just a reporting error, I unplugged it, and the phone promptly shut itself off. Now another 30 minutes has passed, unplugged it, turned it on. The phone refuses to turn on! It will however show the battery charging animation, so I know it's not bricked or anything. I guess my only solution is to leave it charging while it's off overnight, even though I need to use my phone right now... That important person will have to wait :crying:
Edit: Works again... Though it does not show my battery life correctly. It says 15% when it's probably more like 2%.

Might want to use a different cable.. i have read that the cable and possibly even the wall adapter can be flakey.. if you have a spare cable try to use it instead of the lg one..
Original LG cable is fine. It's ever since I drained the battery it's started to act weird. I plugged it in at 3% in hopes of "calibrating" the batterystats and it was charging fine. Up till now. I caught a glimpse of my phone turn itself off while charging.
Now it's randomly decided to turn itself on and bootloop... And back to charging animation while off we go. What the hell? The battery isn't charging... Switching cables didn't help btw.
Found a third cable. Temporarily working..

Hmmm maybe the charger? Sounds to me like its not getting proper power hence the shutting down while plugged in.. but what do I know heh
I have the same problem. Plugged the phone in at about 3% and walked away. Came back an hour later to find it stuck in a loop of the LG logo and a black screen. I can sometimes get it into recovery, and from there see that the battery percentage will go from 0% to 15% and back to 0%. It's like the battery is bad.
I think it's a problem with the ROM/firmware where we can't drain it and hope to charge it up again..
I'm still running v1 of the jb release and last night I used my phone until it shut down at 2%, charged it up fine, and its been ok, knock on wood. One weird thing is that if I use the phone while on the charger, and I mean light tapatalk usage, the phone will drop to 99%, even while plugged in. Weird.

That's normal. When the phone is charged at 100% it stop charging to avoid the battery to be overcharged thus reducing it's durability.
Not charging again... My phone maintained a charge between 10% and 25% or so according to the battery usage graph. So I switched cables again. I went into the service menu and got a screenshot of the charging test this time. First pic is with the LG cable. Second is with a Samsung cable. Third picture is back with LG cable after the battery successfully got charged past the "low battery zone" with the Samsung cable.
I have a similar problem with the stock charger. After a few weeks of working perfectly, it just sopped charging my Optimus G.
Bizarrely, it charges my wife's Galaxy S2 HD LTE without issues.
And the charger from my Sony-Ericsson Xperia pro charges the Optimus without issues.
It's almost like the stock charger burns out something internally such that it doesn't output enough voltage/amperage/current.
Sent via the magic of an Optimus G (E971) running CM 10.1.
So it happened again... But this time, it occurred in between 20% to 40% battery life while charging. It's probably the LG cable.. Gonna call support and ask for another.

I have a similar situation -- I powered down my phone one time at 5 %, did not wake up until one hour of charge, then last night tried again with about 40 % of battery left, same problem. I was wondering at first if the phone did not go to power down properly, and that the battery would drain through that, but then I just did another test with my battery at 30 %, and the phone did not want to restart until plugged in for 5 minutes.. It's almost as if the booting process is just this huge battery drain, sucking all the juice to start the phone in a peak of electrical rage.. anyway -- I noticed that yesterday, I was trying to restart the phone after a while, it would start to boot but it seemed it owuld just miss a little bit of juice to complete the process, then finally when it made it to screen it was at about 10 %..
Could it be that fix we used in the stock rom to get the screen at more than 65 %, and the cpu at 1512 mhz ? It seems more software related than hardware in my case, meaning I don't beleive it is the cable
Hate to revive an old thread, but as the new owner of an LGOG i just ran across this problem the other day. My phone has been able to go two day on a charge, and last week I forgot to charge it on night. Found it dead the next day. was leaving so I took it intending to charge at work or in the car. Car charger had no effect, but upper portion of phone got hot. plugged it in at home, same thing, charging icon, getting hot, but not charging. Also noted dim screen glow all the time.
tried 2o second hold on power button, vol up and down, got into the download screen and the bootloader screen, but no charge. Finally held the power button and vol. up and red charging light came on. Held it for a minute and the red charging light stayed on, let go out it went. Decided to try a couple of rubber bands around the phone to hold in the buttons, and it worked ---phone charged fully and operates as usual.
Thought I'd pass my experiance on to help anyone else with similar problem. Any idea why this worked?
I don't know, but I do know that getting to android 4.3 roms like the ones in Houstonn's thread have cured my O. G. from that, and from also constant and random camera reboot, and from also maps freaking out when plugged in in the car..

For anybody that runs into this problem
I had this problem and tried for hours and hours to fix it. When you stick the usb charger into your phone, it literally takes like 5 hours to charge 2% when it's in this state
So it never gets to a point of wanting to turn on because the phone gets too hot trying to charge
My solution: Put a bunch of ice in a bowl, then put something over that like a bag, aluminum foil, basically anything that would be a barrier between the ice and your phone to keep it from getting wet
Now let it charge with the phone sitting on top of that ice for a few hours(make sure to add new ice as it melts) and your phone will charge up enough that it can be fully turned on. Then just let it keep charging
This worked for me after trying other things for hours. If this didn't work i was gonna open the phone and pull the battery
After the last update I have not had this issue. I've run my phone dead a few times and now it always charges - no issue.

Last fall. I had to go to the stock rom, do the update, reroot, then all was fine.
Got down to around 15% and then plugged in. Noticed level continued to drop. Opened battery page and see this:
Plugged in, Can't charge now.
Did a restart and same thing. If I flip the USB connector 180degrees, it charges. Swapped ends with the wall part of charger. Same thing....only charges with one side of usbb cable pointed up.
What up?

On 30 minute hold now.
Flipping the end on the wall doesn't matter. Flipping the cable around doesn't matter. Whichever end is plugged into the phone only works on one side. Weird....I thought they were the same.

.. previous post truncated. Copy paste always does that in xda app?
I have tested with factory A to C cable and iPad brick. Seems to work fine either way I flip the cable. But I do notice the above msg for a half second when first plugging in, then switches to charging.
With my stock charger, phone does the same with one orientation (brief msg and then charging)....but NOT fast charging.
With the other C cable orientation, it cycles several times between not connected at all and then stays on msg above.
All for now.
Would like to test with a different USB C cables....but not available now.
Is it normal when plugging in, to momentarily flash that can't charging msg? Never noticed it before, but wasn't looking
I was wrong about charging rapidly. On the lock screen, using the orientation that works, it does show charging rapidly.
BUT Ampere app (which measures charging current) only registers about 1mA.
Thanks

1) Yes you're right. It does momentarily flash "can't charge right now" for me. Literally a split second flash. Wouldn't see it unless you were looking for it.
2) You really can't trust apps for measuring charging current. It's especially inaccurate when the screen is off which you need to do to check it. If anything, it would close to accurate if you had your screen off for 5-10 minutes then checked it quickly before it throttles the charging down. Only way for an accurate measurement is a is a power meter like this:

True, charging current with Ampere is less than accurate with screen on. Accubattery however will calculate charging with screen off. Would be interesting to see how that compares to the USB meter.
Was able to test another brick/C to C cable combination and it worked fine both ways. My cable worked in 3rd party brick. Using my brick and either cable, it will only charge in one direction.
So I guess my brick is bricked.... will ask G for replacement.
Well the sent a new brick. By the time I got it, things seemed to be working ok for a while.
But last night my phone was charging next to my bed. Middle of the night I noticed it was on. I grabbed it and unplugged the USB C. The cable connector was extremely hot. Didn't think much of it.
Now, near end of day, I try to charge again. Won't charge. Turned ohone off and tried to charge. Plug gets way hot, but no charging indication.
Back to Google support.

@akenis Did you ever sort this out?
I'm having the *EXACT* behavior, but on a OP6, the same "plugged in, can't charge right now" message.
If I reboot, I get one charge (still with the brief flash message "...can't charge") and then it charges, until I unplug it. Once unplugged it won't charge again, until rebooted.
Same charge-source/cables/Qi receiver that my OP5T had, and my wife now does, zero issues on it (the Qi pad is my main charge source, typical is about 500-700ma, do-able, for me). Re-tested the 5T on a couple of the cable/charger combos, absolutely no issues, it charges every time.
If I use their Dash charger (which I rarely do, because my Qi receiver is stuck on the back, under a case), it gets around this, but it's not a great solution for me; I only have one of them, and we have Qi chargers "everywhere", it seems ;-]
I had a 6P prior, my mea culpa for posting on a Pixel thread, with OP repro instance. I do think these are both s/w related, and probably related to some kernel issue, that's persisting in Oreo builds. I bet if I were really motivated, I could find this in several other brand devices, in various other forums...

I think it was hardware. On my 3rd 2XL. 1st one ended up smoking at us port. The replacement wouldn't route audio through us port.
I have had my phone on charge this morning for way over 3 hours. It's not even charged 20%.
I didn't use my pixel stand. But I used a third part wireless charger today at work (I know, only 5w) and it couldn't even get my phone more than 4% charged from where it started. I've been using this wireless charger for a week and left work every day with 98%. Today I'm at 69%. Was there a software update overnight?
mine works perfect. make sure your centered on the stand, i know that one night, i thought it was on the stand correctly, but it wasnt.. and didnt charge at all that night.
The obvious
Any wireless charger even the better ones like the pixel specific one will always be a lot less than the I see n charger.
The idea behind the dock is that whenever you rest or down during the peak hours when you're using it on and off, you end up resting it on the charger, so at the very least it stops depleting.
If you need a proper quick charge boost, like 10 mins before you jump in a taxi at 2am to your new tinder / grindr friend, then use the dedicated quick charge plug

Reboot your phone and try put it again at the stand. Every time it works for me when mine begin to charge at the stand slowly. Hope Google will fix it.
I had this issue when i first got my pixel stand while using it with a case.
I had the moment case on my phone, and it would only slow charge. I took the case off put it on the pixel stand (which now shows fast charge), took off stand put the case back on and when i put the phone back on now it always shows fast charge.
hope that helps

Once I put my Pixel at the stand and it showed "charging slowly". I left it there, but when I checked it some time later it showed "charging rapidly". So, maybe in some cases it needs some time to recognize protocol and switch from slow to rapid charge. It happened several times (but before the last update).
the pixel stand is a buggy expensive mess! it randomly switches to slow charging and even in rapid charging it doesnt charge as fast as Samsung does on wireless charge
Do you guys have an issue with the Clock Screen Saver coming up? If i set it for "charging or docked", it will work while charging via USB every time. But it rarely, if ever, works on the Stand.
I'm a bit disappointed with the stand as well! Especially since it costs so much!!
I've seen people talk about updates?? Is there anything I need to update in regards too the stand??
I have had no problems with the stand at all. Rapid charges, pulls up pics when the lights are on, switches to clock when I turn the light off, and initiates do not disturb. All good here.

Probably getting an Android 10 build up, but I don't know. I have two of them, but I don'e use any of the actual app functionality.
Anyone else having charging issues?
I normally charge my phone on wireless (non google) charging stand overnight and sit it on an identical one during the day. This has previously worked fine.
Over the last couple of days it has gone weird. I noticed that it was losing charge. It was showing as connected not charging. Also looks like it was trying to battery share?!
I removed it, restarted and sat it back down, same happened. unplugged the usb-c and connected it, no charge!
Tried it on the other stand, same thing!
Left it a few minutes and sat it back on the stand and it charges, wondering if its a heat thing?

I had the exact same issue on my P6P a few weeks ago and the May update resolved it.
Also, as you guessed, this is related to heat I think. I have a gen 1 Pixel stand, and if the battery temp is more than 38 C according to the Ampere app, it shows as connected but not charging.
My solution is to let the phone cool down a bit and then connect

Yeah that's why I don't use wireless charging at all. No. 1...the heat...and No. 2 it's slow.
This started happening a couple of weeks ago, prior to the latest update.
When I put my P6P on the Stand 2 at the end of the day, I get the little sound and animation that it started charging. After a few seconds I see the message at the bottom that it's "charging wirelessly" and a time until full. I have the stand set on Max Charging and adaptive charging turned off. After a minute or two, the fan comes on. About 10-15 minutes later, it stops charging, (the message goes away and the current % is shown), and the phone is really hot. No matter how long I leave it, even overnight, it never starts charging again. The phone remains really hot until I remove it from the stand.
About 50% of the time, if I reboot it, it will behave normally again, but last night nothing I did would get it to charge wirelessly. I ended up plugging it into the wire. It never gets warm when charging on the wire.
It has been working fine since I purchased it in Nov. This just started a few weeks ago. Has anyone else seen this?
Dave
Try cable charging.
Charging will disengage if the battery temperature gets too hot, about >103F
Fast charging may disengage if the temperature gets beyond 95-100F.
Ideal charging battery start temp is 82F.
Erratic charging can indicate a failed battery.
Any swelling is a failure, replace asap if so.

As indicated in my OP, cable charging works fine every time. The phone doesn't even get warm. It's only wireless charging that's an issue, and not every time I try to charge it wirelesly. It's like the phone decides to stop accepting the power, and it starts to heat up because of it.
I take it you don't have a second wireless stand to rule out if it's the phone or your STand 2 that's behaving badly?
I have been using a genric set-up from charger to stand with my P6P and did have charging issues a few months ago with wireless charging not working correctly but the May update fixed it.

May be a hardware failure in the phone or stand.
Remove a case if it has one and try.
C ports generally last for thousands of charge cycles and cable charging is better for the battery, produces less heat.

No, unfortunately I only have one stand. I'll keep trying things to see if I can narrow down the exact situation when it occurs. I was mainly checking to see if anyone else had something similar happen and there was a quick fix.

Yeah, and I've always used cable charging on all my phones in the past with no issues. I thought the stand was cool in that it could fast charge and keep the phone upright so it's easy to read in the middle of the night. I'd really like to keep using it. It was stupid expensive and I'd hate to let it go unused for that price.
Thanks!
Dave
I've been experiencing similar problems with my Stand. Sometimes it charges normally, sometimes it charges REALLY, and I mean really slow... And sometimes I get the "Not charging" message for whatever reason.
I think it's gotta be an issue with the adaptive charging on the Pixel 6 Pro, because every time I put my other phone on the stand, my S21U, it charges without any issues.

Yeah, I feel you. It could be firmware, a SEU which are rare but do happen. A reflash would fix it if so. Probably not worth the trouble to try and more likely to be hardware.
Cable charging be the best plan for now I think.
The old micro connectors were horrible and invariably would fail. The C connectors are much more robust. This N10+ is heavily used and the C port jack is still tight and has well over a thousand cycles plus a few drops and pulls. Even the original cable is still AOK.
Just came across this thread while looking for similar problems on my P4 with a 1st Gen stand. The phone showed the normal 'xx% charging wirelessly' display then at 79% it changed to simply '79%'. After a while the message went back to 'xx%charging wirelessly'. I took the phone off the charger and using a utility app called 'inware' I looked at the battery temp which was at 41.5C/106F.
So I'm guessing that the phone will stop charging when the battery gets hot and resume when it cools down a bit. What is 'too hot' and when does it cause damage, I have no idea. Google told me in a chat session the other day that it's perfectly acceptable to leave the phone on the stand all day. Personally, I take it off at about 80% charge which lasts me all day.
Mine also has this behaviour, taking it off and placing it back on continues to charge
I just sent my stand back for similar reasons - not good when a $12 Qi charger from Amazon was doing a better (and faster!) job charging.
I sent mine back too & am now using a charger that I bought at IKEA for £5. It's a shame as I thought that Google would have made more effort to integrate the charger & phone. Oh well, bling gone!
