Hi all,
Hopefully someone can help me as I am completely stumped.
Three days ago I flashed an sense ROM and all was well until I noticed people saying you didn't get my voicemail? So pressed 1 and called my VM only to find I had 7 voicemail that I was never notified about. I didn't get a task bar notification, app notification and they didn't show in the VVM app.
I have done the following, battery pull, update prl, update profile, sent activation message to [email protected], says it there is a delay in setting up your voicemail and you message will be sent as soon as this step is complete. I have also tried restoring a nandroid when VVM was working and nothing works.
Im lost and it sux not knowing if I have a VM, any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
JP
identical situation here, did you ever find a solution? anyone else have this experience? if so, howdya fix it?
bump this...having the same issue.
uninstalled vvm and re-installed latest apk, app generated it's own activation message, but send failed, still no notifications, this sucks...
This was happening to me as well, until I remembered that I had set up a block with Sprint to block 9016 txt msgs from coming through. Check with Sprint customer service or logon to Sprint's site and check the My Devices & Media tab and see if you have any restrictions on the line.
Apparently, Sprint's VVM program needs those text messages to tell it when it's provisioned, when it has messages to download, and when to get rid of the icon at the top.
Nah, this isn't the aosp text issue, it's different, but thanks for the input.
So I took my phone to sprint today, and after an hour and a half working w/ 3 different tech depts, a couple supposed vvm resets (or refreshes), and a full reset of the phone and still no fix, they decide to give me a new phone. Set up the new one (003 w/ 3.29 otb) and no dice, 3 hours, a new phone, and still have the same problem I walked in with. I've uninstalled and re-installed latest apk as well as an older one. What seems to be the problem is the "activation message" is not sending. Sprint says it's a known issue and there will be a software fix soon - my experience w/ Sprint is 6 mo. is "soon" for an update or fix. Anybody know a fix for this?

holyrolla's right check to make sure you don't have it blocked. if you added it before it wouldn't block it. but now for some reason it blocks it. I had the same problem as the op took me a week trying to figure it out. then I remembered I blocked 9016 when I had cm6. unblocked it and within a few hours my voicemail activation was able to be sent.
also compose a message in the vvm app and send it to someone in your contacts, this should get the server talking with your phone if your activation message still won't send

This worked! I blocked and unblocked 9016 text in August on Heroc. Four days before Thanksgiving on Evo for 2.5 weeks w/ vvm working fine...and all of a sudden no vvm. After I replied to this post earlier, I decided to check it out anyway and there it was. Unblocked 9016 and vvm works fine.
Thank you Holyrolla!
Hi guys,
I recently bought a HTC One M8. About a week ago I clicked a fake link on facebook which directed me to a homepage, I closed the page without anything happening. Then a couple of days later I began seeing a strange icon in my status bar (see attached) when sending and receiving texts and calls. Can anyone help me find out if this is some kind of virus/malware/spyware or if I'm just paranoid.
Any help would be grateful
Network traffic activity icon, perhaps?

It might be, im just wondering why i can't seem to find it anywhere.
Yes its network activity. Data Usage to be exact. I noticed it on Pushbullet while receiving a text message... Nothing to worry about

Yeah its annoying in my opinion. This is my first device on Verizon network but I've never had a phone that feels the need to display a notification icon for a split second when I send or receive a text message. Pretty stupid imo. Maybe someone can find a tweak to make it not appear???
I originally ordered and used the S8+ on T-Mobile. I wasn't happy with the service, returned the device after using it for a week and a half and went back to Verizon and i'm noticing differences between the 2 different carrier phone model (which i expected to see).
The S8+ on T-Mobile allowed me send SMS messages (using the native Samsung Message app) that were as long as i wanted and they did not get broken up. On my new Verizon S8+ all incoming and outgoing messages are cut up and sent individually. On the T-Mobile version, there were settings in the Message app to change the different SMS settings and coding and that are missing on the Verizon model. I even enabled and used the terrible Verizon Messages app to see if i could make changes there, but there were no options there either.
Does anyone know how this can be fixed, or better yet, if it CAN be fixed? It's kind of frustrating. And Google provided no help except threads like this that were started and never completed with an answer.

You could try a different texting app. I use Textra and it gives you some options for split SMS. It may or may not solve your issue.

Yeah i'm noticing all of the nice little quirks now
The thing is i had them before for a few years and had the S5, S6 and iPhones, but i never had this problem with any of them. "Superior" network with annoying compromises.

I'll give that one a try. I switched to Android Messages and i think it's solved, haven't gotten to test it too much with non-iPhone users.

I love Textra but not working for me. I have the Verizon S8+ on Tmobile. Can only get stock and the Verizon Messaging app to work. Textra does not work for me at all, especiaally sending photos.....

That sucks. I know that SMS and MMS can be tricky. May have something to do with carriers. I have had to mess around with using different ones in different situations. I was using Chomp for a while with good results, but had to swap to Textra which has been doing well for me for my last 2 phones. Using Verizon on Verizon.

I am not having that issue. When someone send me a long message, it actually turn into an mms and I'm seeing it as 1 long message.
I also don't like the Verizon app, I want to use the native app. My native app works but the latest update wakes the screen on incoming SMS every single time no way to shut off. Very annoying, stuck using Verizon app for now as well. Have posted a thread here about that https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/help/screen-wake-incoming-sms-verizon-s8-t3594258 Also have opened a ticket with Samsung about that issued and Verizon community. Will see if it gets fixed with OTA patch. I have seen this before on beta builds on S7 edge, very annoying.
Also noticed they locked out the engineering menu, I mean come on Verizon. While I like the network way way way better than Sprint, this thing is locked and locked again.
I have been using the Android Messages app for a couple months now on my HTC M9. Just got this S8+ about a week ago. Hate the Samsung messages app. No individualized options for each person. The Verizon SMS app... well, it's the Verizon app, enough said. I have really liked the Android Messages on this now. No problems with sending short or long texts, or sending media. Seems to work the best out of all i've seen with the most options or features.
Does anyone know if Verizon killed RCS messaging features in the stock Samsung messages app? I'm not getting read receipts, typing notifications etc

I don't think Verizon supports RCS messaging, last i read they had no plans to implement it. Also, i don't remember Samsung having support for it either. I could be wrong, but that's what i remember.

Those options only work in the Verizon messaging app, it may only be limited to others also using the Verizon messaging app to message you, maybe someone can test it to verify. But I can indeed verify typing notifications and read receipts do working in the Verizon messaging app.
What's crazy is the other carriers support RCS messaging.... Like tmobile

AT&T does as well, but it's limited to within the carrier. Same for T-Mobile. And Verizon has it in their Messages+ app (which sucks).
Hi, all. I am deployed right now and have zero cell service so I would like to get texting over WiFi working, but from what I can gather it is only supported on the stock T-Mobile branded Messaging app? It is definitely not working on the Google Messages app and I cannot register with T-Mobile DIGITS since it wants to send me a text message to verify myself. Anyone have a link to the apk I can snag? Thanks for your time.

Do you have mobile data disabled? I read you might need to disable that first if you haven't already.

Here is a link to the stock app hosted on apk mirror. If you can't access it there for some reason let me know and I can upload it to my Google drive.

I would install the google voice app, you get a number, and you can text over wifi reliably.
Will this work with Metro?

Hi guys. I know this is not Note 10 specific but it's great news nonetheless. Someone figured out how to activate RCS messaging and it works. ?
For those who don't know what RCS is, it's basically like iMessage for Android.
Here is the 9 to 5 Google article: https://9to5google.com/2019/10/26/enable-rcs-android-messages/
And here is a tutorial from Jeff Springer over on YouTube:
Spread the news guys it should work on any Android phone carrier. I'm currently in Canada and got it to work.
Enjoy?
confirm, working :good: :good:
Got it working on my Verizon note 10+
I got it working too...I think. Don't know anyone else with it haha
configured as well on my ATT Note 10+; however, replies to group messaging arrived as separate (or new) text messages and not part of the group. Fix for me was to disable the option to "Use WiFi data for messaging when available". Anyone else experience similar behavior? Thanks.

True lol
Works in Malaysia too. But no one here is using it.
Couldn't activate it here in Iran
Stuck in verifying my phone!
Edit: nope it's working and connected!
But no one is using it
I was able to do it on my Samsung-direct unlocked SD Note 10+ on T-Mobile, but when I restarted my phone later it went away and isn't coming back even when replicating the steps. It now says your carrier doesn't support this feature when I go into the Message app settings. I have the Carrier Settings app downloaded from Play Store as well.
Got it connected here. Followed the directions but had some issues with the phone number verification stage. Disabling wifi and trying again helped.
I am not sure if it is actually working though. Every message I send is either a sms or mms, even if I send it back to myself. At least one of my friends it should be going through as a chat message.

You can't send to yourself. Just ask your friend to enable it.
why is all this hype about the RCS? we already have tons of instant messaging apps (most importantly WhatsApp) that surpass the RCS in many ways.
From Romania and got it to work ! N976B
Weird.. I'm on T-Mobile and it's been working for me up to this point.. Now things are being sent as SMS all of a sudden. Still shows as connected though.. Weird..
Never mind.. My buddy I was messaging must be having issues. He's on Sprint but has been able to use RCS without any hacks and using the default Samsung Messaging app .. Weird.
so you never had it before? I had this since the start of the year. My son's Note 9, my wife's and daughter's S10 and my N10+ has this without jumping through those hoops. Just download google messages, it gives an option for RCS and that's it.
All our phones are unlocked Snapdragons so I'm not sure if that matters but you all should just download the google messages app first before doing all that crap for RCS.
I tried it and it worked on my Note 10+ but for some reason my son using his iphone 11 Pro Max couldn't send me any pictures through text and wasn't receiving any i sent.. I switched back to the stock Samsung message app and we could both send and receive txt and pictures?? I'm guessing AT&T has setup as I can send a txt to my buddy using my Note 10+ and I believe he has Galaxy s10 and using the stock messaging app I can see when its delivered, read, and when he types..
Working for me. But I got nobody use it with so far
Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
Thanks, even if a would rather have RCS with the native app.
For some reason for the life of me I can't get this to work. Anybody have any tips or tricks. I have read the instructions over and over again and still can't get it to work.
after set up and working, can activity launcher be uninstalled?
