So I am looking for a decent compact phone and I see the XZ1 and XZ2 are about 250 euro and 400 Euro respectively.
The CPU difference is marginal, so we're down to build quality, the most important thing for me. Not just what its made of but how it feels in the hand.
Could you share your build quality impressions ? thanks !

I deliberately avoided the XZ1 Compact because the fingerprint reader was disabled for US customers and I'm a Verizon customer. The XZ2 Compact reader works in the US, and it works on Verizon. FABULOUS camera. Feels GREAT in the hand. A bit thicker than the XZ1, but I LOVE IT.
Before the XZ2 compact I had the X compact, very similar physically to the XZ1 compact, the X compact was much more comfortable in hand mainly because the lower weight and rounded sides, both has really good built quality, the screen quality is a little better on XZ2 compact. About the speed it isn't comparable, but both moves really well so I assume the XZ1 compact too. The camera is in theory better on XZ2 compact despite it shares the same sensor that XZ1 compact because of software improvements, but if it worth the 150 euros of difference is on you.
They are both good phones. The only differences that matter to me are as follows:
* Camera: the XZ2c is clearly better under all conditions (but the XZ1c is not abysmal)
* Size: the XZ1c wins, as the XZ2c is a bit too tall for no-hassle one-handed use
* Weight: I am surprised that I should find this relevant at all, but the XZ1c is a joy due to being (and feeling) light(er)
* In-hand (and pocket) feel / ergonomics: the XZ2c and its curved body is so much more forgiving - a pleasure to hold; the firm edges and sharp corners on the XZ1c are uncomfortable to me
* 3.5mm jack: I use it less and less, but I have been through situations where the XZ2c not having one was a problem.
There are small software perks to the XZ2c (the night light), but in all other respects (screen, speed, software, finishing, the quality of the plastics) I find the two barely distinguishable. (Though I am one of those who appreciates the design of the XZ1c more - but just to look at, not to hold.) I use the newer phone most of the time, but occasionally revert to the XZ1c - and I can see myself using just the latter. It's a tough choice.

Not really a XZL2 in my opinion. Huge bezel compared to the XZL and water resistant.

Its on the site of Sony Japan to (Sony Website)
Well I meant it does not continue the spirit of the XZL. The XZL omitted the IP ratings of Sonys flagship device and focused instead on the screen to body ratio. At that time the lack of IP rating allowed the ZL to also have a camera button and an IR blaster (even though the Japanese XZ had also one).
This one is way closer to the XZ2 screen to body ratio than the XZL. For comparison would the screen to body ratio the same as the XZL the XZL2 would have to feature a 5.2" screen. Maybe it is a mistake and the XZL2 features a 5.2" screen, then the name would make sense.
Yep it's more like ZR2.
Tbh, it's way too thick. ZL is already pretty thick.
It's wider than the Z and 3mm (!!!) thicker!!
I think they should just make the Z2 with smaller bezels and ZL backside and be done with it.

And IR blaster please, this thing is pretty useful.
To give a little bit of reference, the ZL2 is roughly 6mm taller and 3mm wider.
Translates to roughly just under a quarter of an inch taller(about 1/8" more bezel top and bottom) and an eighth of an inch wider(about 1/16" more bezel on the sides)
Doesn't seem that big of a difference to me, and the benefit is same specs as a Z2?
Only downside I'm seeing is that there's no red, and no IR blaster.
What actually bothers me about this is not the size of it, but the styling of it. It looks so much more plastic-y from the back and sides, our ZL feels like it has a bit more class to it, what with the black outline trim and smoother slope on the back.
The ZR2 just looks so much more like a toy than anything...
Looks too big.... the size of my ZL is the max size 5" I will ever buy.... I would say though, I would have liked the ZL to be a mm or 2 thicker, too thin for my liking.... but the Incipio Case gives it a nice thickness .... Too bad Sony didn't strive to make the ZL2 bezels smaller than the ZL...... oh well, maybe in a couple of years, tech will allow for much smaller bezels......
Do anyone knows how to unlock ZL2 it is locked by au. I will really appreciate your help guys. Thanks
Hi guys. Iv got my Z1Compact for almost 3 years, and im going to USA in one week and i thought about buying a new cell phone because my Z1 Compact isnt working as good as before, some crashes, its gotten slowly, battery dying out, camera not taking good photos and my screen is scratched wich is quite annoying.
I loved this phone, especially the size and the waterproffing and the Sony Brand (Yeah, i am quite the fanboy).
Do you reccomend any Phone similar to the Z1 Compact?
I been looking some phones, but they are quite big i guess.
Sony Z5 Compact
Pros:
-Very Similar
-A little better?
-Fingerprint (Though its disabled?)
Cons:
-Old device (2015 phone)
-Not much better i think...
Sony Xperia X Compact
Pros:
-Similar size.
-Fingerprint (Though its disabled?)
-New
Cons:
-Not Water resistant.
-Not top hardware?
Sony Xperia X Performance
Pros:
-Water resistant.
-Fingerprint (Though its disabled?)
-Not so old
Cons:
-Bigger
Sony Xperia XZ
Pros:
-Water resistant
-Fingerprint (Though its disabled?)
-New
-Top hardware
Cons:
-Bigger
-More expensive.
I been looking for those phones. I really would like to read yours reccomendations.
Should I wait for a new Z compact? (It is going to release?)
SHould i search in another brand? (Google pixel? HTC? Samsung?)
Thanks for your time
if looking for smaller phones, Z5 Compact should be better cause X Compact has Snapdragon 650, which have similar perf as snapdragon 801.
Sony maybe announce new compact phone at IFA 2017(September).

The only phone that is currently an actual all-around upgrade to the Z1c, without getting bigger, is the Z3c. The Z5c, and Xc, etc., are all potentially better, but the main problem, (in my opinion), is lack of development. Sony dropped the Z line right after releasing Z5/Z5c, so not a lot of momentum there, and X line is new, so time will tell. Of the sub-5" phones, Z1c and Z3c are the ones with the most development invested, (unless you want to switch brands, [Nexus 4, etc.])...
I agree i only considered Z3C as upgrade from Z1C but since i replaced battery and put fresh rom in it see no point doing it.
You would get:
8% faster CPU
1 version higher android
Stereo speakers
0.2 better front speaker
300mAh bigger battery
23 less DPI on screen.
Honestly i would wait for the new Nokia Android phones as those seem to have nailed in specs and design.

I thought it will be similar to Snapdragon 808. CMIIW
To OP:
No, me myself find hard time to get a decent phone with noticeably small body. Better wait because I guess SONY will release a new compact this year (may take a while). But I am not sure it will waterproof and high spec, since the original X Compact isn't.
If you need a new phone, really new phone with small body, I guess you may like Galaxy S6, high spec just a lil bit bigger but has the same weight with Z5 compact. It is not waterproof tho and no sdcard, but I guess, you'll find with it or S7 flat, it is waterproof and tad bit smaller than S6. But no phones really small enough like Zc series and Xc series.
I have had every Xperia compact since the Z3C and am always dissapointed by the screen quality since sony uses a weird slant on their pixel matrix. With the XZ2C being so much higher pixel dense I wonder if its still noticeable?
If you need explanation here is the XZ1C pixel matrix: https://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_xz1_compact-review-1660p3.php
For me the screen of the XZ2 Compact is really brilliant. I can't notice any pixels or borders. I checked out also an universal VR glass and it was really impressive sharp picture.
Hi guys , I'm about to buy a new phone here in my country you can get moto x4 (4/64) for $260 and nokia 8 for $280 same as the Xperia xa2 For $280 , I'm wondering which of three is better , i know the Nokia 8 is better because of snapdragon , but i prefer the Moto design , please suggest me
keep in mind with moto's design, it's mostly glass so you'll end up having it in a case most of the time. i used to sell cars and always had to remind people not to get to caught up on exterior looks, since you barely spend any time looking at it. the software experience will be better on the nokia, which makes it the better overall choice in my opinion.

At the same price I would choose Nokia. Better SoC, UFS 2.1 storage(moto has emmc), better and bigger screen, more durable because of metal back. And yes, Nokia has better software experience. The only thing is the lack of ip68.

Keep in mind, Nokia does not offer any way to unlock the bootloader ...

I can compare Moto X4 against Xperia XA2 - I have both devices :
Moto X4 :
- much better camera (+ GCam available, working fantastic)
- better software (like Moto add-ons, night light mode)
- probably better support when it comes to updates
- better fingerprint reader
Xperia XA2 :
- better audio (using headphones)
- maybe slightly better display quality, just an impression
- better battery management
- slightly more internal memory available
Hi guys, I'm currently planning to settle on a new, smaller phone (currently a 5.5 inch user).
But as you all know, the market is currently dominated by large screen phones.
Comparing to Pixel 3a which is recently launched, would you guys still go for XZ2 Compact?
My priority is small phone and accurate screen colour.
I do like the fact that XZ2C is LCD (screen colour is closer to real life? Since OLED are vivid), handy size, except that this phone is more than a year old
Personally I'm a root user, high chance going for custom rom if the stock rom is not vanilla enough for me.
I just bought mine 3 weeks ago me am happy I did!

If you want a small, fast Android, it's the only option (next to the XZ1c
And yes, it's pretty good.

Yes, the SMD845 is very fast.
And you won't find another compact phone with the same hardware has its big brother easily.
absolutely recommended!
i had all compact series and this phone is the best!
maybe I only envy the battery life of the z3c, but for the rest is better.
fast and smooth also after an year of hard use
And above all, the glass is absolutely resistant!
And price just dropped to $400 for some models.
Got mine on the weekend for 320€ (upgrading from XZ Compact) and am super happy for now.
I like the screen ratio and the display, the built quality feels nice even though it's made of plastic, everything runs snappy, camera quality is great and I love the new Sony UI with the little animations.
The only disadvantages for me are that it is quite thick and heavy and I haven't found any decent protections glasses (all I tried were to small or ****ty in some other way) and cases.
But if you want a small powerful phone, you can't be too picky these days. The Galaxy S8 looks pretty nice too and isn't that much bigger, but with the European variant having an Exynos CPU, there's no custom Rom support.

I'm open to any idea except OLED screen
Don't enjoy their vividness and unnatural colour despite the changeable colour profile in system

No OLED drastically limits your options, as the smallish Google and Samsung phones are all OLED. (But trust me, the sRGB option on the Pixels takes all of the vividness away and makes everything perfectly bland.)
But those are smallish phones, not small/compact. For me even the XZ2c stretches the limit at 65x135cm, but that is the absolute largest that would qualify, in my book. In terms of size, I find the XZ1c ideal, though the XZ2c has other qualities that make it a better option. Oh, and it has a great screen too.
Mine arrived from Amazon today and so far I am very impressed!
