So i just got this phone and when the phone first turns on everything appears to work just fine. Then when the screen turns off it will not turn back on. The only way i can get the screen to come back to life is by pulling the sim and putting it back in to force a restart. I have tried the software companion via a software repair. Same issue. Any thoughts or ideas?

Well here it is, my Xperia Arc S originally had a problem where the display kept turning itself on so i did some reading and apparently it might have been some software, so i tried doing a factory reset and that didn't work. So i tried flashing it on Flashtool but then i realised i couldn't because everytime i turned my phone off it would turn itself back on so i couldn't put it in boot mode. And now i can't even get past the Sony Ericsson logo when i boot up so i think of anything to do now because i can't flash it and turn it on. Please can someone help me.
Side note i did drop my phone in water a few weeks ago and there were problems with it booting but i thought it was resolved because they disappeared.

Phone cannot turn on itself. Unless you have charging cable attached and it goes to charging mode.

UPDATE: I was able to flash 4.0.4 firmware onto the phone after repeatedly trying to get it into flash mode but the problem still remains, the display keeps turning on by itself and whenever i switch the phone off i hear a small vibration and it turns itself on (with no charger attached), i'm thinking there might be a problem with the power button but i'm not sure.
bump
Does the button act any other way than normal?

I didnt drop it in water on purpose, i meant i dropped it and there were issues with it booting up, i left it in rice overnight and it was fine the next day
true true

My phone worked perfectly fine for months until today. My cannot boot. When I turn it on it goes to the galaxy s3 screen before turning off. I have tried taking the battery out, sim, you name it and I still get the same result. Does anyone have any tips for me? Thank you

If it also happens in download and recovery mode, power button might be stuck. That or hardware failure.

I cant even get that far into the phone =/
But I think something must be loose in the phone. I got it to boot up but it was very jumpy and hard to get off the unlock screen. Should I try to open it up and check?
Good way to tell if it's a power button issue is to remove the battery, then put it back in and wait a min. If it tries to turn on by itself, the button is your problem.
If it doesn't, it could still be the button though. It won't rule it out but is an easy way to confirm it most of the time.
What do you mean by its jumpy and hard to unlock?

I've been using my S2 as a music player for a while. and its been running Liquidsmooth 2.10. and its worked just fine for ages.
my s4 was damaged, so i was using my s2 as a backup. it worked fine for a week or more, then suddenly one day, it just just killed it self. nothing was changed as far as rom/kernel or anything. i was just typing a text and all of a sudden the screen flickered, and the camera flash went off a couple times, the screen turned back on and the off again. then it just turned off.
i have not been able to get it back on since. it will show the SII logo for a few seconds then turns off. then proceeds to vibrate once every 2 seconds endlessly. thats all i can get out of it. it wont go into download mode or recovery or anything because as soon as i put the battery in, it tries to boot itself.
anybody have any ideas what is goin on here?

Sounds like the power button may be stuck which is a known issue with this phone. Here is a thread on the issue:

I've come to find out if the phone crashes this will happen, it's normal behavior believe it or not. If you will be patient and wait for about 7 to 10 minutes, the phone will finally reboot. The next reboot will be normal time again. This might be the device's way of protection, IDK.

thanks, this did the trick. but i think it may have been more so the volume up button. there is a metal piece that surrounds the volume button on the board, somehow it was coming off, pushed it back on and mashed the buttons a bunch, came right on.

This is almost certainly caused by a bad/stuck power (on/off) switch. It's a very common problem on all the US-carrier Galaxy S2 models. (Sprint, Boost, Virgin, Telus, T-Mobile, AT&T, etc. I don't think Verizon sold the SII)
You can check the switch by gently touching the physical switch (plastic cover/"button" removed) with a toothpick/pen/etc. As a "snap-action" switch, it shouldn't activate until you hear/feel it "snap" closed. If it's activating with a light/slight/tiny touch, the switch is bad. On my Sprint GS2, even the slightest brush against the power button caused it to wake the phone. Sometimes it would stick "on", and then the phone would reboot. I bought a new switch, soldered it in, and have no problems since.
If you don't have insurance coverage and are out of warranty, you can replace the switch yourself. Several eBay sellers offer replacement power switches for the SGH-T989 Galaxy S2. (about ten bucks)
Or, if you don't have mad soldering skills, several offer mail-in repair service as well, and most seem to have great feedback.
I was working out at the gym earlier today and when I wanted to take my phone out to check messages, my phone just shut off all of a sudden and wouldn't turn back on. I tried taking out the battery and putting it back in and it doesn't turn on when I push the power button. Also, sometimes, the phone would buzz and show the samsung logo and the cm logo, but then the screen would turn black again. I can't go into recovery mode either. When I got home and tried to charge it, it never charged either. It just did the same thing and buzzed and then show the samsung and cm logo and then the screen would go black again. At first, I was thinking it might have bricked, but seeing as how I never did any firmware changes to the phone, it shouldn't have bricked. I only opened the phone to check the time. Do you guys think it's the phones problem? Or is there any way to fix this?
Any help would be appreciated!
Any luck with download mode?

No, I can't seem to get into download or recovery mode.
DO you have a USB jig?
Another battery?

You are holding the power, vol up and home button at same time till the samsung logo flashes right?
Never mind guys. I took it to the repair shop and the guy said that it was my power button chip that was malfunctioning. He replaced the chip and it worked again. Thanks for the feedback though. Really appreciate it.
When I was using this phone the screen suddenly turned black. No powering off or anything, the phone was nearly fully charged anyway. Nothing seems to be working anymore. I tried turning it back on but it's completely unresponsive. It won't even charge anymore. I was wondering if there was any solutions to this and if other people where having this problem or did my phone just brick itself
Are you able to get to the bootloader? by pressing volume + and power at the same time. It may be worth trying to flash stock also. I am no expert its just what I would try.

Of course I did. But at no avail. Today, I found out, that the new screen is partially working. I can see very dark picture, it means, I have no back light. Tried to set it up from engineers mode, but no luck.
So the new screen is on, but without back light, and the phone heats pretty much in the top area.

If so. Try to pull down the statusbar and swipe a bit under the statusbar line, in the top of the screen from left to right, with some luck you will tap the brightness switcher

I can connect to the phone through Vysor, and when I change the brightness level there, there is no change at all. The Phone does not react to any settings change at all.
Tried eragon rom, but still no change....

Better hope you still have your garantie, because theres legit no way to restore it. You just have to send it back for it to get fixed. This happened to me once and yesterday twice. sadly I am to dissapointed from this. I am never buying an Elephone again ! PS bro it isnt worth sending this hell of a **** peace back. It costs and the blackscreen thing is gonna happen again in 6-8 months. SO go out there and buy yourself a real phone not this bull****. I have to do the same rn.

Just happened to me with my 3 year old phone. Left overnight with enough charge. Pressed the side button and nothing - held it down to restart and then complete blank.
Repalced the battery about 1 month ago with one from AliExpress for £5.
So using the kit provided with the battery or a watchmakers screwdriver - undo the 12 tiny screws and remove the white surround and then the inner back with the phone's number on it. Next disconnect the battery socket but be careful as it is tiny - use a torch and magnifier if vision not good. Remove the sim card. Wait 10 minutes - did this with the blue light flashing - it stopped finally on disconnection.
Put it all back together and hey presto fully working phone
