Mi Mix 2 Imei change (unlocked bootloader) - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone.
i got my mi mix 2 one week back from spain it is working fine on both sims but in my country now there is rule to approve all the imported mobiles through an imei authentication system (for custom duty). all the mobiles imeis which are not approved by that system will be get blocked in near future so my device will become useless. As i tried to approve through that system but they are demanding too much money for which i could have buy a new phone (300 US dollars). so i have my bar phone which is dual sim and is approved by that system as i purchased that from here in my country.
my question is that whether is it possible that i can shift that bar phone's imeis which is useless for me (kept in the cupboard for 1.5 years) into this mi mix 2 for good . because i am not using that bar phone, i will be permanently using this mi mix 2.
I am little bit aware of this rom flashing things as i recently unlocked my bootloader and got my 2nd sim working (as vodafone spain allow only one sim in mi mix 2) through edl mode and flashed the global version.
I am running miui 10.2.2 with UNLOCKED bootloader.
Kindly help.....

wtf, which country do you live in?

The only phone which had this feature I know of, is LG V20.
You cannot change IMEI of Mix 2 unless there are supported tools for SD835 chipset (hardware hacking boxes).
Also by the rules of Pakistan, you can bring upto 3 (or 5) cellphones without their brand packaging into the country and get them activated for Pakistan for a very small price 1-2k PKR without paying hefty amount of import tax. Before it was stricter for a couple of months that you had to pay more than half the price of the phone you brought extra with your primary phone.

What umts frequency does the Docomo xperia arc SO-01C use for 3G?
Does it have a sim card slot?
i have been told that it has an sim slot and unlocked by Docomo
can any one approve?
Docomo uses an 800 band, not an 850 band, so it'll most likely not work.
NTT Docomo might operate on the same band, but mobile networks in Japan work in a completely different way. The NTT Docomo SO-01C will not work on any network out of Japan in any way.
the reason i wanted Docomo is because my GF wanted the pink color and is only available in Japan. I have found a Japanese seller that is willing to ship it to me to the U.S. Docomo started offerring free unlocking after April 1st . the phone has a sim slot and i think it will work on any GSM world wide if it was unlocked. but, the thing i wasnt sure about was the 3G issue.
it uses 850/900/1800/1900
not sure yet about umts/hsdpa
i have purchased the phone today and i am waiting for it to arrive. when i get it i will update you guys.
for me i am waiting on the xperia arc LT15a Version , but if the japanese version works i will get it from there also
the device at Docomo store is approximately $600 or 620 usd range without contract.

About NTT DoCoMo:
It provides 2G
(mova) PDC cellular services on the 800 MHz
band, and 3G FOMA W-CDMA services on the
2 GHz (UMTS2100) and 800 MHz(UMTS800(Band
VI)) and 1700 MHz(UMTS1700(Band IX)) bands.
They use MOVA for 2G and FOMA for 3G, and neither of those techniques are used anywhere out of Japan. If you can, cancel the order, because the Japanese Arc will not work in the US.
Docomo in Japan uses 2100mhz and 800mhz.
The retail box for the SO-01C lists UMTS 1/2/5/6 compatability (2100, 1900, 850, 800). Some websites suggest the SO-01C has UMTS 1/2/5/6/8 compatability. On the other hand, Sony Ericsson Japan simply lists "3G 850mhz/2Ghz" for international roaming.
For what it's worth, the SO-01C device label does not use either LT15i or LT15a codes (which are UMTS 1/8, and UMTS 1/2/5, respectively), but instead "SO-01C".
The only problem I see is that since the SO-01C is identified as "SO-01C" instead of LT15i/LT15a, there is a possibility that you may have difficulty in receiving OTA updates, and that any manual firmware updates for LT15i/LT15a may not work properly.
Edit: Yes, Docomo is FOMA, but FOMA is basically UMTS with a few additional Japan-only features. Historically, FOMA handsets used proprietary software (in addition to carrier lock) which made them difficult to use internationally. But stock Android is built for GSM/CDMA/UMTS (and now 4G/LTE), and not limited only to FOMA. In order to support Japan-only FOMA features on Android, Docomo just uses additional apps (such as SP Mode for messaging). Other FOMA features such as osaifu don't work anyway, because the Arc does not have an NFC chip, or an ISDB-T antenna for 1seg, etc.
Otherwise, basic UMTS voice and packet access should work fine just as long as the phone supports the correct UMTS band, the phone is indeed unlocked, and you have the necessary APN and MMS settings for your carrier.
I'm pretty sure you have to take the phone to a Docomo shop for it to be unlocked.
yes the seller has unlocked it for me at the docomo store.
im not cancelling anything ,this an sony android device and is a bit different from other docomo devices. i will see what happens when i recieve it and let you guys know.

I bet its going to work. Most carrier make their phones to work internationally (at least for the gsm part) if this is unlocked then it should work! Did he pay that $32 to unlock? It said that you need to have an account?
When are you receiving it?
yes i have paid the seller the unlocking fee , but im not sure if he got it for free or paid for it and i dint care since the fee is not that expensive. i paid on Friday and today he said he will ship via EMS. since it is weekend im not sure if they work in japan on sat/sun , i will inform you when i will get it once he gives me a tracking number.
hey guys
this is a japanese online store that proves what i have been saying about the 3G japanese version and that it should work in the usa if it is unlocked.

Well Nimche, sorry buddy but I finally gave in. Just ordered 2 Midnight Blue LT15i's from Handtec. (One for me, one for GF)
Edit: posted in wrong topic.
A few notes here:
1. The phone may be stuck in the Japanese Android Marketplace which means you won't be able to access the same applications in overseas markets. Even when a Japanese Android phone is set to English, the marketplace is still that of Japan, however it may depend on the carrier SIM card.
2. OTA updates take far longer to come out in Japan than in other countries due to the language issue. For example whereas the HTC Desire was updated to Android 2.2 overseas last July (August?) in Japan it wasn't updated until October. In the future, you may have a problem if you try a manual update in light of the Japanese modified OS (whereas OS updates released in other regions are compatible with those languages/builds).
3. Depending on if this seller is trustworthy or not, the phone may have an ESN problem. Unless he paid in full at the time of purchase then he may be locked into a 2 year contract. You can not buy a phone without service in Japan, you must sign a contract even if you cancel it the next day. This may or may not be a problem in your being overseas (probably not).
4. Customer service for the phone must be handled in Japan, thus if there is anything wrong with it you are going to have a problem. In Japan, the buyer must inspect the phone prior to purchase to verify there are no scratches or problems and once the contract is finalized the phone can NOT be returned under any condition. This is quite different from America where you can apparently return the product days or even weeks later simply because you don't like it.
Also, if the seller has terminated the contract then there is no free repair or exchange possible, even in Japan.
5. Packet transmission charges may be calculated at a different rate because you are not using a phone provided by your carrier. In Japan, for example, Docomo has locked smartphone handsets at a maximum charge of around 6,000 yen per month, however if an unlocked phone is used it is treated as a mobile terminal and thus billed at a higher rate of 9,980 yen per month.

3-the seller has bought the phone full price without a contract
4-even if i bought from anywhere else, the warranty issue wont matter since i am buying from other countries. my x10 never had any issue where i needed a warranty and im hoping the arc will be the same
5-As i said the seller has paid full price and there is no contract and is unlocked for international roaming(policy has changed in docomo after april 1st)

What is The Difference Between Chinese & Global Variant

Xiaomi dramatically release a lot of variant in Running Redmi note lineup.
Note 5 pro as indian variant, another one is
Note 5 as chinese also known as Note 5 Ai
and the other one is Redmi note 5 Global.
There is a lot of noticeable difference
between Chinese and global version.
But Its really hard to notice difference
between Chinese & global version.
So My Question is,
I can consider chinese rom,
Which one would be better for me?
I mean Any Disadvantages on
Redmi note 5 global compared to
The note 5 chinese?
Global version and Chinese version differ only in network bands. If you add two LTE bands B4 and B20 to chinese version, it will become global version. That's it. If you don't need those two bands you can order the Chinese version.

Thanks for this clear and concise answer. I don't need band 20 or band 4 LTE and Ordered the Global version.
Just cancelled it to reorder the Chinese version from Aliexpress - -$25 difference and it comes with an unlocked bootloader...

Be aware, there are fake unlocked bootloader devices being sold through 3rd party re-sellers! Do a bit of research here on Guides and News section I think on RN5 forums and you'll see. The safest case would be to buy completely stock device (locked bootloader) and proceed to unlock it on your own. Now, your device might really be unlocked, but it is a known practice for Xiaomi devices to get sold with fake UBL. I hope you don't get scammed, because it's a pain in the *ss to get rid of that fake ubl.

I would recommend you to buy the global version even if it costs 25 bucks extra. Things changed between then and now. So many restrictions imposed on xiaomi phones. You can't lock bootloader on chinese version if you have global rom and vice-versa. Just make sure you buy from recommended sellers (check their rating) and ask them to keep the box in sealed state o/w you may get fake roms or faked unlocked bootloader....etc.

If I have genuine Global Rom with Unlocked Boot Loader on China version, will flashing newer Global ROM be possible with an unlocked bootloader?
If it is possible, will the Newer global ROM with ARL still lock the bootloader?
I am not a MIUI fan, It is custom Rom all the way so, I want to know. I intend getting the POCO phone early Next year and may not use this one so long

Let's talk about chinese version Note10+ 5G

Hi there,
As a Samsung China fan, I know a lot about chinese version Samsung phones ; however I live in France so I also know a lot about the most common version of Samsung phones which are the international variants.
So, let's talk about chinese version Note10+ which has some pretty cool features that we can find nowhere else (btw I will get one in december when I go back to China so this thread is only about specs)
In China, Samsung only provides Note10+ 5G version, the model number is SM-N9760 which is a snapdragon variant. You may think that it is just the same as US version Note10+ 5G with a different software, but it is not exactly the case :
First thing is 9760 is the only Note10+ 5G in the world with dual sim card support. Second is that since Galaxy S10 series, Samsung flagships sold in China are the only in the world that support L1+L5 dualband GPS and 9760 is no exception.
In the box, Samsung provides a transparent case and a 6-month screen replacement reduction (only usable in china)
On software side, 9760 is also different from international version as the CSC it runs (CHC) has many features you may want to use even elsewhere than in China ; let me talk about the new additionnal features on 9760 (I will make another post about the CHC software improvements later) :
Bixby gets a new function exclusive to China that is Bixby Touch (but I have to test it to know if it only works in Chinese or if it is available in other languages) : you just have to long press on any screen to get shortcuts to related apps or services : for example, if someone send you a message with an address, a long press will let you open the maps app directly from there without having to copy/paste or doing any other action.
Samsung Pay gets a new smart door card function, which can let user access their building with just their smartphone.
Of course, it has all the other features from CHC rom that I'll detail on a later post.
And for those who want to know about the occidental services that are also supported, I also have the answer :
Google Play services are preinstalled ; by default, they're not activated but to get Google apps, you just need to download a play store apk and it will work just fine.
Instagram mode works : I tried it on a smaller version Note 10 in China, you just have to install Instagram and clear camera data and it will work just as on international version.
You get your local Galaxy Store because the phone region is defined by your sim card.
However, some features won't work or not completely : for example, Samsung Health will only sync if you have a chinese samsung account and you won't be able to compete with people using non-chinese Samsung Health app
I do NOT know if Samsung Pay works with non chinese cards but I will try it when I get 9760.
You cannot get the "Secure Wifi" feature as well as international version of smart call.
Finally there is no ROM you can flash because 9760 is actually a Chinese-exclusive variant (but that may change if Taiwan gets 5G model)
Personnally I think Chinese Note10+ 5G is the best variant you can find ;
Snapdragon 855, L1+L5 dual-band GPS, Dual-SIM, some cool exclusive features and the ability to use all the features we already use and love... for a cheaper price tag as it is sold in China cheaper than 4G variants in Europe...
Hello, also from France and currently in China I have bought the sm-n9760 in a Samsung shop in Shanghai. So I'm able to answer/confirm some infos there.
First, yes it comes with Google services pre installed, under a VPN I transfered through smart switch my data's and so on (containing my needed VPN apk) on this phone and then added through settings Samsung and Google accounts (while connected to my VPN). Google chrome and calendar couldn't be transfered by smart switch and play store wasn't installed. Downloaded play store apk with Firefox. All worked fine and then I used the play store to install chrome and agenda, all syncing and working without flaw.
Yes it is 5g dual SIM and less expensive than other variants at least the the European ones (paid 7999 RMB = 1040 euros and got a free jbl Bluetooth speaker sold normally at 800 RMB = 104 €)
It has bixby touch as said and it works in your language set in your settings. French for me then.
It does come with a well made silicone case and a factory applied plastic screen protector.
I can also confirm for the 6 month screen replacement and the whole warranty is valid in mainland China only. So if you have any problem not concerning the screen make it repaired in your country and for the screen ship to China. (Advice from the Samsung employee in the shop).
There is a setting about the smart building function but haven't tried it out. Also the Samsung employee told me that Samsung pay will only work with Chinese card. Considering that they use a different card system (not Visa or MasterCard but union pay which exists only in China) I assume it is true.
I don't use Instagram so no info on that.
I have been able to uninstall every Chinese pre installed apps just like I uninstall any app without problem.
No info on Samsung health for now. I'm still in China and don't compete with others. Back in France in a week so more infos later.
I'll give a look for the GPS on the spec sheet on Samsung website for this maybe.
Their 5g version support band that is intended for the French market (3500 MHz). But well no real deployed 5g in France before 2022. For now 350 antennas deployed in France by all operators (including 300 by one only) whereas in China, China mobile alone have deployed 200 000 and is just starting it's network. Also China mobile offered me 100 GB on 5g just to try. Thanks to them as I just paid a 100 RMB (13 €) prepaid sim card for 2 months.
I also have an "hongbao accelerator" as setting option but haven't gave a look yet.
If you have any question don't hesitate I'll do my best to answer.

My Chinese friend told me that Galaxy store was previously banned and that she had to download apk straight from various sites and therefore got quite a lot of viruses and ****. After that she bought Apple for long and now she hesitate to buy Huawei to support the national brand. However now the Galaxy store 8s no longer banned but it seems way more empty than appgallery of Huawei (had a Chinese honor phone before).
It may not be the only reason but it is the one I've been given.

So Samsung is basically killed by China government. China only allow local developers' apps available in phone. If no China developers create apps for galaxy store, no one will buy Samsung phone.
Exactly same thing happened to Huawei now when US banned Huawei from using Google play.

Hey, thanks for the answer
Just wondering, does it have the native radio app ?
Too bad Samsung Pay doesn't work (but I will still get a try ), fortunately Google Pay is still available
The dual band GPS is not mentioned in the spec sheet but if I remember it was mentioned in S10 Chinese unpacked
Apart from the Hongbao accelerator you also have many features such as fingerprint lock and some exclusive apps like the Samsung assistant that basically replace every app you use in your daily life
I hope the 5G deployment won't be too slow in France but even if not I will be happy with chinese version as even without 5G, it brings a lot more for cheaper price.

I don't think so, Galaxy Store was already available when Samsung had a quite respectable market share in China. The store has every popular app Chinese users usually install ; the main problems for Samsung in China is Note 7, Huawei and aggressive competition from Chinese companies...

There are three main reasons for Samsung poor market share in China :
First is Note 7, even today, when people talk about Samsung, people instantly think about explosion
Second is an agressive competition from Chinese brands : they deliver lots of innovative products for a very low price... It's almost always the same, Snapdragon 855, triple camera setup with IMX586 and Samsung Amoled display packed into a metal frame and glass back with gradient color, at the lowest price possible and with the fastest charge possible.
The thing is Samsung never plays with specs sheets, but Chinese customers care most about high numbers ; when they see Note10+ has "only" a 12MP camera, they will think it's worse than a budget phone having a 32MP camera...
And remember foreign compagnies have to pay more taxes for their products so Samsung phones are a lot more expensive than chinese phones, even though they are cheaper than the rest of the world
The last thing is Samsung has a bad image because of Note7 and because of Huawei... Huawei has very good public relations with Chinese government, so when they have a bad buzz it is almost always eliminated from weibo in the shortest time, whereas when Samsung has a bad buzz such as Galaxy Fold issues or fingerprint scanner issues, it will immediatly become #1 in trends, and it is almost sure that's because of Huawei.
So those are the reasons why Samsung has only 1% market share in China, hope that this will change in the coming years but I doubt this will happen

Hey, sorry for late answer, with plane and all I've been quite busy lately.
I attach the photo of the embedded radio app (name in Chinese), hope it'll answer your question.
For Samsung pay I can't try it out anyway because my (French) bank isn't compatible yet.
I didn't find out what is hongbao accelerator used to.
China mobile gave me free 5g to try it out, I had it sometimes but the throughputs weren't as expected (see below).View attachment 4859993

Easier way, go to China and buy it there.
You can also buy it from various websites I suppose like eBay or whatever (based in what I read) but I don't know if sim lock is still existing and in this case be sure that it is sim unlocked.

What app are you using there ?
Anyway, from what I know RCS is mobile operator dependant so it may be linked to them. (It's a supposition). I haven't tried out because I don't think signal support RCS.

France is likely to delay its 5G spectrum auction until at least March 2020!

Hi there,
As a Samsung China fan, I know a lot about chinese version Samsung phones ; however I live in France so I also know a lot about the most common version of Samsung phones which are the international variants.
Personnally I think Chinese Note10+ 5G is the best variant you can find ;

SAMSUG S20 ULTRA AFTER I CHANGED THE ROM! PLS HELP!

I have one problem with one s20 ultra 5g ... after firmware uptade from 10 to 11 ...
I bought the phone from a pawn shop and I had a custom firmware installed
I couldn't install many applications and that's why I wanted an original firmware
at phone status I get custom
now I have official android 11 but no signal
is my network blocked? or? I can enter the pin code ... but it doesn't take a signal ...
MODEL NAME SM-G988B/DS
BEFORE CHANGE SM-G988B only. meybe here is the problem ??
someone said it was a roted phone after seeing the phone in download mode
I don't know what that means and how it can be fixed !
Another thing I noticed ... on the back of my phone is written live demo unit not for sale
only now I saw this .... after 3 months from buying the phone
What carrier sim are you using. Big risk buying from pawn shop, you never know what you are getting. Since demo unit it could have been a stolen phone. So many good re-sale options other than pawn shop.
i use telekom mobile romania

Question Slovak sim card

Would T-Mobile locked phone work with Slovak T-Mobile sim card?
Can you please clarify:
Where ( region/country) are you intending to use the phone. It feels like it's going to be in the country the SIM is from, is that right?
I ask as it maybe easier and less headache to convert the phone to a different region.
Im sure someone with my more knowledge and experience maybe able to help you more than it have.
I want use it in Slovakia with Slovak sim card.
If T-Mobile is your carrier in Slovakia, then yes it will work. You can verify this at a T-Mobile store just to make sure with the added assurance!
Seller from AliExpress said everything works perfect no problem don't vory and guy from TMobile Slovakia said we don't know but better buy phone from us

Only problem with buying from AliExpress, you can't be 100% sure that you will get what is described on the website. I have heard from some in these forums ordering from different websites that what they actually got was different from what was described. So yes, ordering from TMO would be best, but one way or another with the support of everyone here in XDA, you should be OK either way.

its ok. in EU always from oneplus.com.
1. In Slovakia we don't have offers like in USA. 2. I don't pay 1000€ for phone. 3. I buyed 4 phones from AliExpress without any problems, 1Poco 2Xiaomi and 1 OnePlus 6 that I use fourth year till now. 4. With this OnePlus 9 pro's is the biggest problem that people don't read full description and then are surprised when they become TMobile USA locked phone. 5. Mi question was would this phone work with Slovak sim card?
If you genuinely trust the buyer and that you're 100% confident you're going to receive a genuine TMO (le2127), then the choice is yours.
I feel that people are saying it maybe beneficial for you to buy directly OnePlus 9 Pro (EU) LE2123 (Global), LE2121 (India), LE2120(China)
As there could be a chance the seller has bought the phone from another region and converted it to TMO.
All I'm saying is be confident, ask for a picture of the box ( IMEI scrubbed out ), look for the phone model number, ask for a clear photo of the back of the phone, look for the model number at the back near the base of the phone.
The other benefit if you buying direct from OnePlus is you get a full 3 years warranty.
I agree with AndyC76, otherwise the phone should work with Slovakia TMO SIM card on TMO service.

I ordered new OnePlus 9 12/256 from TradingShenzen... But they sent a badly refurbished one with no original battery cover and also the camera lens was out of the phone when I opened the box.. Also, other lenses had fingerprints on lenses from the inside. Previously I ordered from there mi 11 ultra and 2 times it was a scam.. dust under the lens and so on.. so I do not recommend buying this from Chinese anymore. Buy it from oneplus site or for example, I bought OP 9 pro 8/128GB from here in Slovakia for 467€ from nay...
