What is The Difference Between Chinese & Global Variant - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

Xiaomi dramatically release a lot of variant in Running Redmi note lineup.
Note 5 pro as indian variant, another one is
Note 5 as chinese also known as Note 5 Ai
and the other one is Redmi note 5 Global.
There is a lot of noticeable difference
between Chinese and global version.
But Its really hard to notice difference
between Chinese & global version.
So My Question is,
I can consider chinese rom,
Which one would be better for me?
I mean Any Disadvantages on
Redmi note 5 global compared to
The note 5 chinese?

Global version and Chinese version differ only in network bands. If you add two LTE bands B4 and B20 to chinese version, it will become global version. That's it. If you don't need those two bands you can order the Chinese version.

Thanks for this clear and concise answer. I don't need band 20 or band 4 LTE and Ordered the Global version.
Just cancelled it to reorder the Chinese version from Aliexpress - -$25 difference and it comes with an unlocked bootloader...

Be aware, there are fake unlocked bootloader devices being sold through 3rd party re-sellers! Do a bit of research here on Guides and News section I think on RN5 forums and you'll see. The safest case would be to buy completely stock device (locked bootloader) and proceed to unlock it on your own. Now, your device might really be unlocked, but it is a known practice for Xiaomi devices to get sold with fake UBL. I hope you don't get scammed, because it's a pain in the *ss to get rid of that fake ubl.

I would recommend you to buy the global version even if it costs 25 bucks extra. Things changed between then and now. So many restrictions imposed on xiaomi phones. You can't lock bootloader on chinese version if you have global rom and vice-versa. Just make sure you buy from recommended sellers (check their rating) and ask them to keep the box in sealed state o/w you may get fake roms or faked unlocked bootloader....etc.

If I have genuine Global Rom with Unlocked Boot Loader on China version, will flashing newer Global ROM be possible with an unlocked bootloader?
If it is possible, will the Newer global ROM with ARL still lock the bootloader?
I am not a MIUI fan, It is custom Rom all the way so, I want to know. I intend getting the POCO phone early Next year and may not use this one so long

Xiaomi Mi6 Global VERSION

Hi there,
I am currently thinking about getting the Mi6. After some research I read more than once in some forums across the web, that there might be a Global VERSION coming, naturally supporting more LTE bands, as they have done it before to other xiaomi phones.
Geekbuying already had a Global VERSION listed, others saying Xiaomi is trying to hit ground in Russia and Greece in the future.
Since I am pretty new to the ChinaPhone Area I would like to know if something like this sounds possible to you? In that case I would wait a few more weeks if something like a Global VERSION would pop up.
Thanks in advance :good:

Hello, I've bought a MI6 that already came with global version. If you buy it with other, you can download it here:

It's a great phone with lower price, it worth it

Hi,
I did not mean the Global ROM. I meant a Global VERSION of the phone. The Global ROM does not unlock any LTE Bands.
It just felt like there are rumors about a different version of the phone coming in the future. That's why I asked if anybody knew something.

Thank you, but it seems like they are defining Global Version also just as the Mi6 running the Global Rom on it. Aliexpress is not mentioning any different specs than the "standard" Mi6. The review is also just talking about the Global Rom on the "standard" Mi6.
Maybe I was just wishing that they might release another version of the mi6 running more or other LTE bands than the one which is out already. Too bad.
Global ROM - with more languages than English and Chinese - is available.
Usually it takes a little more time to come out (2 weeks to 1 month) but it is available for all Xiaomi devices.
It comes with Google Services and improvements for usability outside of mainland China, namely GPS.
Global Versions is on the hardware side.
It usually enables more LTE bands (e.g. Band 20 @ 800MHz on the Redmi 4X), brings an EU charger and is CE / FCC certified.
It has also the Global ROM pre-installed.
So we are waiting for a Mi6 Global Version ... even though it might not come. Just looked at the mi sites in Taiwan, Russia and Poland: mi6 is available but same specs as everywhere - no B20 band mentioned.
I really do not know if Xiaomi is going to release a global version of Mi6.
But OP5 has a bunch of 4g bands.
What do u think about OP5?
I read a review in miui forum. The guy has International version, which had english specifications on the box. I boughy Intetnational version from Gearbest. The send me Chinese box with global shop rom. So that means there is a international version but you have to clarify with seller. Or consider other phone.

Had the OP5 for a few days and send it back. It did not feel fully developed yet. The viewable expanding/contracting of pixels was annoying, Camera worse than advertised, Bluetooth did not work out of the box and the customer service with OP is a big ****up since I have been returning it. Its not worth the price it has. Most of it could be resolved by software, so it might become a better phone in the future. But the customer service is so annoying, that I wont be turning back to OP. Better no customer service at all and lots of money less

All the sellers [ gearbest, tradingshenzhen, etc. ] do not know about an international version supporting B20 yet. So sadly, there is nothing to clarify.

My point is these sellers unbox and flash shop ROM on Chinese Version then sells them as International Version to earn more money. You have to "clarify" this before you buy to make sure you get what you want and pay for.
In case of band 20, the only way to know is to try contact to people who has originally International version to confirm. I don't think these kind of sellers will tell you the truth.

Gearbest international versions are fakes. It´s the chinese phone with the global rom installed by the shop.
Original xiaomi phones are called "Global version". And for the second time, you can buy it here: https://es.aliexpress.com/store/pro...a8a4ce16758051b7b-1502703643253-09604-UfYbAe2

Why do you use language like this? It's unnecessary. It's condescending on a thread that has what - 3 users?! Really.
Having said that - yes, the Global version IS different from Chinese with Global ROM.
I got the blue ceramic Chinese with Global ROM because I couldn't seem to find it anywhere as INTERNATIONAL.
Works well for me: Specs vis-a-vis bands etc

Go for the Chinese variant, it's better in many aspects than the Indian version and you can unlock its bootloader easily, unlike the Indian one
Do not buy a Xiaomi phone. While the Skin may look and feel polished, it is full of bugs. I can't even get proper 4g speeds.
This is the cheapest phone I've ever bought and regret it already.

Out of both, go for the chinese variant as it has a slightly better camera and oreo out of the box.
chinesse or aka redmi note5 AI
wait for global.
Go for Chinese Version
Pros
-Bootloader is unlock-able (currently indian devices has an error 86006 ) ,its been nearly 2 months still no fix.
-cameras are good.

Difference Between EU & CN Versions

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone could clarify the differences between the CN version of the phone and the EU version. I'm thinking of purchasig a phone from Aliexpress and want to make sure of the diferences first!
I know that the CN version misses the LTE bands 25, 32 & 66 (which only appear to be important in NA) and will need the global rom flashed to it. Are there any other differences?
Thanks for any help!
Hello
Although I have no evidence about this, the phone may have been adapted a bit to match with the CN gov requirements. I guess this is related to real time check and the removal of some forbidden features. For exameple, on CN iPhones, iMessage cannot operate audio calls, so the user has to use Wechat call for this (which is totally under control by them).
Sorry for this unprecise answer but by instinct I'd avoid buying stuff from mainland China since the gov involves a bit much in everything there.
I bought a CN variant (HD1900) which came flashed with the Global ROM. I used Oxygen Updater to check for latest updates and all done. I think you have to be pragmatic about buying phones / other from China - if the Chinese government want to 'spy' on me, there are easier ways than monitoring which is encrypted and running a VPN all the time. If anyone had any evidence of mis-doing, it would be public knowledge - look how Huawei was affected without any evidence !

Unlocked US or wait for International unlocked?

Hi all
In the past I’ve had to buy international variants for the best possible coverage when traveling. Even the US unlocked did not cover as much as their international unlocked counterparts.
I spend a lot of my time overseas so I’m willing to have less then ideal coverage in the united states.
I’ve tried to look up information on the bands but so far have not had much look comparing to see if I should preorder the s20 ultra unlocked in the states or just wait until I go abroad and purchase the international version in a few months when I leave again. Even if I don’t get the deals on preorder.
Which would really be a downer if there isn’t a difference and I could buy it now with all the perks of the promos.
Can anyone enlighten me on if the unlocked US version or international unlocked variant would be more suited to travel outside the States?
Or is their a difference this time?
Thanks!
I have this same question, but here is my dilemma....
The US version work have a snapdragon and a $200 credit at samsung's website for pre-orders but the international version with have the ability to be rooted. Now i have the oneplus 7 pro, with root, i am able to force 90hz refresh rate on ALL apps. If i can root the s20 ultra, i can swap in a kernel that allows 120hz at qhd on alll apps, which is pure gold in itself.
the Kong kong and Latina american variants historically have been snapdragon AND rootable so you can have the better processor wnd root.
that said there has also not been a ton of development for those particular variants which i mever understood since your getting the best of both worlds
I'm in the same boat. My current GS8+ is international variant specifically because of dual sim and root.
I'm conflicted with all the international versions not getting things like 5G vs international. I pre-ordered, I still can cancel my order...
What's the likelihood that US Unlocked version can be rooted within few months? Anyone know if they're adding additional locks to it?

It is my understanding that traditionally, US unlocked version is SiM unlocked but bootloader locked. Therefore, the likelyhood that it will be rootable in a few months will be the same as with other recent phones, next to zero.

Viper4android!
very hard choice
- Snapdragon 865 is more power efficient and more powerful ( 10 % against exynos SOC)
but forget root
- Outside US 5G networks aver very very limited
- The exynos will receive more updates
- US version has only one card sim slot

so i'm struggling with the choice too, either the SA (latin american snapdragon) or exynos .
I don't really care about development beyond TWRP and Root , not sure what to do
From what I have seen there are also various versions of the international unlocked, some are dual sim and some ha e different bands (with or without 5G).

yes it should be its exynos.
Korean/ international basically the same thing hardware other than possibly being capable of different network frequencies.
you cannot cross flash Korean and international firmware however if that matters
ive had lots of both and never had issues with either.

Yeah i'm thinking to buy one. But stil don't know which one. Chinese with global rom or Global at ZTE Shop.
Chinese with global rom is cheaper at Giztop, but there is a chance to get extra customs.
1. This phone is Chinese Edition, comes with Global version software installed(international ROM), includes Google Play Service.
2. This phone supports multi-language: English, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Arabic, Russian and more.
3. This phone supports these network bands:
4G: FDD: B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/18/19/20/26/28; TDD: B34/38/39/40/41.
5G: n1/n3/n28/n41/n78
so no one has one? Mine supposed to arrive today
Chinese version with global rom comes with problems... I find it's MUCH slower to update (have to almost force it to) and can be a mother to root.
Older google apps abound and it doesn't want to update these, manually installing newer APK's seems to fail more times than not.
There can be bloatware that is (almost) impossible to uninstall.
Theme stores might not work without a Chinese number and you are stuck with some apps being only in Chinese with no English, or any other language, options.
Chinese phone might be a little cheaper but the Global variant will mean less headaches...
I have the Chinese Axon 20 and themes are especially a pain, the Theme store is geared for the Chinese and I find them all very cartoony, Forget about changing fonts as it uses theme store bought ones and again, not English. They ALL cost too. (Have to use Chinese currency)..
Forget about reading the changelog of a new Firmware, if you get updates, t took a few months with me checking and getting a "can't connect with server" error" before it finally updated, still a month or 2 behind in security patches though, though that may be normal.
All in all I wish I'd spent the few extra $$ on a Global variant but it wasn't available in my area at the time so got the Chinese one instead cos I'm an impatient little bugger.
Updating is a pain as you need to navigate Chinese only sites to find the firmware if you want to root or anything, a lot of these sites are hard to get things from, even with a VPN, and depending on the suppliers means of adding the Google apps, may not allow upgrading. This means having the stock firmware handy is nigh impossible if you have problems and is easier to end up with a brick...
Hope this helps you make up your mind.
To sum up, what you get is about all you can expect to work with (spent hour pulling my hair out trying to root a Chinese Axon 7 and ended up loosing all phone functionality), as long as you're happy to use without root, too much theme customisation problems with stock Android and hard to ignore apps you just can't get rid of. It may be worthwhile but in my opinion, get the Global version instead.
Got the Global Axon 30, much better experience and again, cost may only be up to $100 more but peace of mind is priceless...

Got the Global Axon 30, much better experience and again, cost may only be up to $100 more but peace of mind is priceless...

I bought global. Not sure why anyone would buy cn version
Again, the phone bought Chinese version was the Axon 20, and it wasn't available in my region, not even through international postage and It was also unintentional (Seller had "Global ROM' in BIG letters but CN model in itty bitty letters).
The Axon 30 I got a true Global variant from ZTE direct, came with a screen protector and ZTE iMore buds. Funnily enough though the screen protector supplied by ZTE, the official tempered glass protector, had the camera cutout which I thought was an odd choice seeing as how the phone's most advertised selling point is the under display camera. That was a boner-headed move on their part but the phone is pretty good.
Got mine today. Pretty good. Do wish I could crank up the color though. The setting for color is limited.

I've had mine since last Friday and it's really good overall. But I have 2 issues so far with the screen off the tap to illuminate the fingerprint reader doesn't work, and the AOD doesn't work at all I turn it on and the screen stays black so I have to contact ZTE and see if its just my unit

thanks!
So from what I am seeing the G version is the USA/NA version and the one that is just A2322 is the China version. (was looking at a device for sale-had some Chinese characters in the settings and no "G"-OS version was slightly ahead or higher at 11.0.16)

I'm going for the Global model, but i want the 12GB/256GB model and it is still not avalible at the ZTE Global store.
I read that the phone doesn't have dual speakers. Is there a way to enable the ear speaker and use that for second speaker?
