I am using my Pixel 3 for work.
I have to send a lot of Group SMS message every hour and keep getting a pop up telling me:
SENDING SMS MESSAGES
Textra is sending a large number of SMS. Do you want to allow this app to continue sending message? DENY ALLOW

This happends after every text.
I have tried the following ADB commands but they dont seem to have worked.
settings put global sms_outgoing_check_max_count 100
settings put global sms_outgoing_check_interval_ms 1800000
Phone is on ANdriod 9 and I am using Textra but have also tried stock SMS and get the same message.
Dont really want to Root the phone if I can help it.
Any Suggestion please?

Well basically I am getting charged for some of my text messages and I do not know why.
If I send a long text message will it send as a MMS???
THanks ... this is with T-Mobile
You need to speak to tmobile.
The manual says that an SMS will automatically be converted to an MMS if "very long", but not how long. Can you visually tell when this happens?

Just like when you add a word tot he dictionary it will appear eith "Converting to MMS ..." once it is too long.
if memory serves, it's somewhere between 3 and 5 SMS messages in length where it changes to an MMS.
I always though 5 was the max for text messages on any phone. Then it breaks it down into seperate messages.

I will experiment and find out!

Happened to me last week, NOT COOL!
is there a way around this ?
like a config option or something like that ?
is this specific to the desire or android ?
This is standard behaviour for all Android devices, and it applies to the stock messaging app. The reason for this, is that if you are going to send more than three SMSes, it will in most cases be cheaper to send an MMS. This does not of course apply when you have unlimited texts or other discounts.
Until this gets fixed, download a replacement from the market. Try chompSMS or Handcent SMS. The automatic conversion is optional in these.
ah ok
hope this gets fixed fast
using an alternative sms program such as handcent sms or chomp sms gives you the option to break up long text messages into seperate texts instead of converting to mms
I received from one person more than 500 text messages but only the number "500" is shown. I'm still getting more messages. But the number doesn't grow.
Messages are there. Just the total number of messages is not shown.
Is that a limitation of Messaging App?
in your messaging settings, you can adjust the max number of text messages
If I got anywhere near 500 message from someone I would block them.

This explains why my GoSMS backup/restore (when I switched phones) doesn't show all the messages I have with my gf.
I made the change in settings, but does anyone know what will happen if I restore the old messages again?
Will all the new ones I've gotten disappear?

No, they are added on. I've done this countless times before, mostly because I flash too many roms.

Thank you very much!!
I had it ticked in "none" but it kept doing this..now i ticked the "200" and it fixed!
I don't know how long this has been going on for, but I think at one point I had the ability to receive long SMS messages.
I'm at wit's end after all my troubleshooting has amounted to no progress.
I am receiving all SMS under 160 characters and all MMS messages.
But if the sender does not have "convert long SMS to MMS" enabled, I do not receive long SMSes.
So I know it has nothing to do with the messaging app itself...
Specs:
ZE551ML (64/4 version)
Android stock lollipop 2.20.40.194
Textra messaging app
Ghostly SMS to catch missed SMS
Troubleshooting Steps That Have Been Tried:
- tested sim in a non Zenfone 2 (worked)
- uninstalled xposed framework
- turned off:
Adaway
Adblocker reborn
Greenify
Amplify
Powernap
- booted into safe mode
- cleared cache/davlik
- unfroze all Asus bloatware
The next step I can think of is to dirty flash the stock rom, and failing that, do a factory reset... But I'd be happier if I didn't have to re do everything I've got setup on my phone.
Anything I missed or should take a look at?
You can't send text messages over 160 characters without breaking them up with an app, or converting them. Like you said. So I don't see the problem.

Okay, to clarify, I am not receiving "concatenated SMS" messages.
Other people do when they are sent one, whether from myself or others, but I do not.
Tried sending a long SMS to my phone using a friend's, then afterwards put my sim into their phone and sent another one to myself. .
Got nothing with the SIM in my phone, but received the SMS when I put it into their's after I resent it to my number.
So it's not the carrier, or the SMS/MMS settings on my friend's phone.
Hopefully that helps highlight the issue?
I am having a delay in receiving text messages even after altering the bat saver settings for the messaging app to run in the background.
So I send myself a text from another phone and I get no message.
Then I open messages and still no text.
Then I send a message out and all the messages I have been waiting one appear.
Can someone please help me on how to fix this issue?
thanks
Niko

It's like the push notification isn't activated until a long time or after I send a message. Also when I do send the message to trigger the receiving of messages there is a slight pause that says sending on the outgoing message.

Sorry, I’m interested in buying this phone and I was just stopping by to see what folks had to say about your issue. Could you tell me did you ever figure out what your issue is?
Never experienced such an issue with mine...
I get SMS messages pretty fast after they have been sent (for instance verification codes and so on)
Myne is an EU version if that makes any difference...
