Hello everyone, my #og screen was flickering for a while before giving up last December, so I got a new replacement in January. Unfortunately, the new screen didn't last long at all, I was only able to use it for a week before it went dead also.
However, I observed something odd occurring at the bottom of the screen just by the LG logo, this part gets really hot whenever I power on the phone (with the screen dead) . It's odd cause it also occurred right after my #og screen went dead completely.
Please help if you have any idea of what's going on, cause now I'm skeptical of buying a new screen again. Thanks.
(pls pardon the low light shot.)
Does anyone think it might be a panel problem?
The hotness never occurred while the screen worked, even when it flickered. It only started after the screen went dead completely on both occasions like the pic attached.

The crystal has a crack.
You need a new LCD
EDIT:
See for yourself. When there is a damage the screen always is like that.

Even a small crack at the size of a needle can do that same damage.

Thanks for replying. Well, the new screen I got for January never fell from my hand, and there's no crack whatsoever on the glass. Maybe you are right on that, probably over tightening the screw might have reached the inside or something, but should that explain the bizzare hotness that occurs. It really gets hot only at that part, that really bugs me.

When I say there is a crack on the crystal, then there is a crack on the crystal xD
You need a very strong light and a magnifying lens to see it. I told you , even a crack of the size of a needle (head) , a small dot ,tiny one, can do all that you see there.
Have i bricked my phone?

So I got a new screen, it works cause I'm able to boot into recovery. However, I've tried restoring my backup as well as clean installation of various roms but non goes through. After the LG logo (on restart), the screen goes blank but the led indicator shows blue.
*I've had to remove the battery several times to switch off when battling with the previous screen. Could this have been a trigger?
P.S sorry to be a bit of a bother, would appreciate your insight. Thanks
Lucky fix, but what's the bug?

@kessaras, I'm no expert but after tinkering with some settings in twrp i was able to figure out the problem to roms not installing. My procedure:
Wipe system, cache, data, delvik cache.
Restore backup or new rom+gapps.
Wipe cache and delvik cache
Tick off all options in "Mount" (i.e data and cache)
Reboot to system.
Now i don't know the technicality behind this, but usually i don't have to tick off options in "Mount" for me to install/restore roms. So I'm guessing something is wrong somewhere.

I have been using CRC 12.11 for a while. A strange problem started all of a sudden. My screen went white although it is working. Soft reset didn't solve the problem. Hard reset solved the problem for a while and then it came back. I noticed this at the time it happens. While everything is fine, the screen fades out, a few lines like scratches appear and then the screen stays white. I hear system sounds, the phone rings but no display. What has caused this?
I flashed another ROM but when my phone restarted it was still white. I hard reset and now I am waiting. If it reappears, it means it is a hardware problem right?

I had this same weird issue once on my rom, i think it's because of the Big storage bug.. Flashed OEM rom and went away.. only saw it once!
I reflushed several ROMs that I used to have before without problems and still have the same. I can't install OEM, I think it's because of the bootloader version but I don't remember exactly the procedure to correct this and I don't know if it's worth the effort in downgrading to OEM.
Another thing I just noticed is that the screen is not aligned in the center. There is a small gap on top of the screen as if the image has moved downwards. Maybe this is the cause of the problem. Noone had similar issue? I don't believe it has to do with big storage because I have been using it fot a while and this never happened before, not even once.
Any ideas will be apreciated as my only choice right now is to buy a new phone.
same thing
i´ve been looking around and some people say is because the magnet in the pouches, affect in some way to the screen ribbon or something like that.
that is a common problem with the hermes, if u search the forum u'll find a couple of threads like this.
it's a hardware problem, next symptoms will be the green/red buttons and d-pad stoping to work
I know theres a few links in the FAQ about the white screen issue, its fixable in some cases.
problem solved!!!
i just took it apart, one of the ribbons which connect the green and red buttons was kindda folded also the connectors , so i just blow some compress air and tried to unfold the ribbon, put it back together and voila! like new. Just be carefull cause it´s like fragil.
same exact problem word for word
The same exact thing happened to my hermes. I guess I can attempt to put mechanical skills to work and fix this problem.
[Warming up]
I've been having problems lately trying to figure out the problem..
So, first i suspected the SD card, doesn't seem like my original 16GB card was the problem, because i bought 2 new 32GB Micro SDHC cards already, same problem..
[Now the problem]
80% of the times when i reboot and go into recovery and flash a couple of roms, or reboots in general, i for the most part get stuck in Bootscreen, if i try to wipe Cache and Dalvik-Cache, it sometimes solves the problem and 20% of the times i can get into the system, the other 80% of the times that i actually succeed into getting the rom to load up, i mostly get stuck there aswell, untill it reboots the phone, and im back at the imfamous bootscreen...
So, i've figured, is there anyway for me to log the stuff that is happening at the boot screen? because im curious to what the problem might be..
[The things i've done already]
Everything is formated as EXT4, and has been so since Mike introduced it with his rom..
i've tried Mikes rom, Unity, Honey roms, Coredroid, RCmix, all the same on all of them.
I always wipe my phone fully before i boot the rom, mostly with Mikes Super Wipe Script, but sometimes with the wipe zip mentioned from the Rom Dev explicitly telling me to use that..
I always let the rom boot 2 times before i start flashing themes and stuff..
Just going Stock rom doesn't help either, i've tried that aswell, no change.
I've cleaned the phone, from top to toe.. (brushed and cleaned with special liquid)
I've tried different Micro SDHC cards, 1 of em was a counterfeit card, the newest one works just flawlessly, i've benchmarked, checked for errors and even done a Bluff check on it, all working 100% nominal.
CPU running at 998Mhz, just incase..
[Ending]
So, does anyone have any suggestions?.. Does anyone have any way for me to get logs of the Bootscreen (as its a wallpaper, i have no chance in actually seeing what is happening)
Are there any ADB commands i could use to check errors in bootscreen? Any diagnostics tests?
Maybe even a way to refresh the Bootloader with ADB commands?..
ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!
You have some pretty serious problems here. Not that I could diagnose it, but it sounded like hardware related problems to me. Btw, here's the link about boot log you've requested.

Thanks man, very much appreciated!
I'll run some logs tomorrow and see whats up with the phone, i actually got the phone running optimal again with yet another fresh rom flash and it all seems to work, have only restarted the phone 2 times, as im afraid of restarting the phone and get stuck again..
If i do get stuck, im stuck forever, and have to try above mentions i've done before, wipe cache and dalvik-cache, sometimes this works, most of the times it doesn't, and i end up fully wiping a couple of times and reflashing roms untill it works.. (I know this might sound like an SD card problem, but its not, i've gone thrue this with a couple of programs)
Anyway, a thousand thanks for that link, will probably help me quiet some..

Aye, this phone i have in my hands right now has already been in for repairs before and they changed the PCB of the phone, got a new IMEI number and all that..
But i do have warranty left for it, but i have to iron out the problem before i send it in, don't wanna risk being sent back to me and i have to pay lots of $ for their trouble (you know how HTC 3rd party repair centers works).. Plus they might actually scratch my screen some more as they did when i last sent it in...
Well, i have another "minor" problem with the phone aswell, not sure if its my phone or a general new cosmetic problem occurring on phones sent in for repairs, as i haven't noticed it on my earlier phone (Well theoretically the same phone).. Is that when i look at the screen in pitch black moving screens, i can see a distinct line going from Top Right to Bottom Left corner, and the Top Left side of the screen is black, and the lower right part of the screen is black/grey, you can see the difference, but not noticeable when your actually booted up, only in the Bootanimation part is it visible, i've tried different Bootanimations and everyone that has a Black background has this cosmetically problem.
Aah crap, Wall of text..
Haha just gonna add that i installed both apps you mentioned earlier, and the phone feels more like a Dev phone now, but anyway, it all worked great, not sure if it logged anything yet, didnt find anything in the app yet if it does..
I noticed something strange though, Gsensor Enabled, then right before bootup, Gsensor Disabled..
Have no idea why it does that, have no problem with Gsensor though..
Edit:
6 successful restarts!! That's something new!
I have no idea why its behaving this good.. Well time will tell..
Hello Forum,
seems that my DHD has an irreparable error.
But i've still a little hope that maybe someone of you guys out there can point me into the right direction to repair the phone again.
What happened:
on December, 20. for no apparent reason the Display started flickering approximately 2 cm from the top.
The upper Part (the first 2 cm from the top of Display) was showing the normal Picture, on the lower Part the Picture was flickering at irregular time intervals, but the touch gestures were still working without any Problems.
Setup at that Time:
- Latest 4ext Touch Recovery
- Latest MIUI.us Rom by bliind
- Custom DPI set to '190' (with ROM Toolbox)
- Max CPU Speed set to 1200 Mhz (with Set CPU)
(Had this setup working fine without any issues for approx. last 2 Months...)
Last change i did before the error occured: Set Custom Boot Animation with Rom Toolbox
The Flickering started not immediatly after setting the new boot Animation but i think 2 days and some reboots later...
Actions that i've already tried to solve the Problem:
1. Shut down the Phone, pull out the Battery, wait some Minutes, reboot the phone.
-> The flickering was gone and the Display looked normal after reboot.
2. After some time I took the Phone out of my pocket and the flickering was there again like before.
Tried to set DPI back to original value '240'
reboot the Phone
-> The Flickering still was there and it seemed to me that the responsiveness of the touch was slightly slower than normal.
3. Reboot into Recovery
Nandroid Backup all Partitions to SD-Card
wipe all partitions except SD-Card
new, totally clean flash of latest MIUI.us Rom by bliind
Reboot the phone
-> The flickering was gone; responsiveness of the screen normal as it was always before.
4. restore all apps; put the phone on the charger over night. everything worked fine again.
on the next Morning this strange flickering was there again; the Touchscreen was very slow responsive in the flickering area
Managed once more to reboot into recovery, but the flickering was now even in the Recovery and on the boot screen.
-> The Touch got more and more unresponsive.
Could no more start a new ROM flash out of Recovery.
5. Tried to access the phone via aahk tool and restored last stock ROM
-> After Reboot the DHD vibrates (like it usually does for startup)
the screen shows a bunch of black and white Stripes that chnge their Color when the Boot Animation should show up,
and later again when the lockscreen should appear.
It makes the boot jingle and i can send Commands via adb.
but Touch commands doesnt work, (tried to put in the Pin blind, but it shows no reaction)
Stupid, but I can't change it: my Warranty and the extra Insurance that i purchased for the DHD ended just 2 weeks before on 6. December.
6. Disassembled the whole phone with Help of you tube disassembling Guide, carefully cleaned all contacts and assembled it again.
-> nothing changed; same behavior like before disassembling.
What can I do? Any ideas except of small rasping and stirring into the soup? :crying:
Can it be only the display? Maybe the Graphic Chip?
Any other ideas?
thank you for reading this all and i appreciate any suggestion that might give my DHD a new spirit of life
Greetings from Cologne
I know it's not what you want to hear, but that sounds like a graphics or display hardware problem...

Thanks for your reply!
That was the same what I thougt after disassembling and cleaning with no result.
Cause it seems to me that the Display is still working, but the Signal that's coming in is broken.
I alsready supposed that the Graphic engine is broken.
Just had a little Hope that someone might had the same Problem and got it solved,
before I start practice for mobile phone throwing competition...
i suggest another ROM JB used to cause my DHD flickering (earliear versions)
My DHD was with same problem 1 year a go, and that usually happen when i played games like Angrybirds or Asphalt, or when the device temperature was high.
I was worry at that time, thinking that the device was gone.
Take the same solutions that you had (except disassemble the phone) but they're only temporary.
By that time i decide root the device and install a new rom, (nothing to loose had i think) and Revolution HD was my choice.
After that my DHD didn't flick any more.
I didn't ever know what was the origin of that flickering but for me, that was the big solution.
I'm using Viper Venom 1.2.3 for now, and still with no flickering insues.
So, my advice for you is... give a try to other rom's and kernels, maybe you resolve your insue has i did.
Good luck with that.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda app-developers app
Thanks for you Answers guys,
the Problem i have is, that my DHD does show only sripes even if I try to boot into Recovery, I can't see anything and am not able to start a flash process...
cause i have installed 4ext touch recovery i need the screen to wipe and flash a new ROM.
But i will try to flash an CWM - Recovery through ADB and then to start the flash Process blind by tapping the buttons...
let's see what will happen. There's nothing to loose...
For now, cause I was sitting without a mobile phone at all, I've ordered a cheep one from Amazon... - Huawei U8510 (Ideos X3) -
And oh WONDER!!!: I've got a fully functioning phone with CyanogenMod 7.2 and all the stuff i use my phone for is working without any Probs..
And the whole thing has 2 years of warranty at a cost of € 80,-
only the Display for my HTC would cost € 40,-
so I'm thinking of selling the broken phone on ebay and let anyone try to repair it who is able to....
but I will give it a try to flash another ROM.
Already downloaded the JellyTime R30...
Hello unbeteiligter,
seems that my DHD has nearly the same issues, but with some extra problems.
It seems to be broken since today morning. I wiped the phone and restored the backup I made the afternoon before, and then the first vertical stripes occured. I wiped it and flashed the same rom (CodefireX 4.2.1) again. Same issues. Now I tryed to flash a GingerBread Strock Rom. Even the same issues, and even more shocking is that this problem also occurs in the bootloader, recovery, splashscreen and bootanimation.
Stupid situation, today my Warranty ended.
What can I do? Previously I tougth this is a software problem, but now I think it might be a hardware issue.
Thanks in advance!

The T-Mobile Customer Support told me, that they would have accepted the case as Warranty, if my DHD had ended up during the first week after End of Warranty. Don't know where you bought yours, but maybe there's a small chance for you to get Warranty Support through their obligingness.
If I were you I would try this...

Similar problem
I have also got a similar problem. Had my phone for two years and have also just hit the same problem. Flashed a new ROM, everything was working fine, then all of a sudden top half of the screen is displayed correctly, the bottom half is always flickering. This occurs in the bootloader as well. Anyone would think that HTC decided to make sure the phone only works for two years and a few weeks after the warranty expires to make sure it experiences problems.
Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing pretty silly situation with my phone.
So the story begins here:
I was surfing the web while listening to music in the bus when suddenly my oneplus3 randomly turned off and I couldn't turn it back on. (I was on something around 15% on battery so it's not a low battery problem) I tried to turn it on several times and after holding the power button for like 10secs it turned on, and after pressing the power button again (because I needed to get past unlocked bootloader screen and dm-verity) I saw a boot screen. The capacitive button leds turned on and after 3 secs it turned off again, so I started worrying... After a while I tried to access the recovery, but no luck at all. It powers it self off after bootscreen. So I started to research. Tried to flash the entire OS, partritions with msmdownload tool. After several unsuccessful flashes (firehosewritedata failed sometimes while writing userimg or system.img or boot.img) I did get the download complete green text message, and after successful flash, the white LED turned on, even the phone was not plugged in USB or charger and turned off. The screen is completely black and the white led just flashes constantly without blinking or anything. I could only turn the led off by pressing the power button for another 10 secs. And after turning the phone off, problem still remains. After oneplus logo phone shuts down...
I can access bootloader.
And after flashing everything should be on stock, because now I only got screen only about bootloader, no dm-verity..
And of course - I still cannot access the recovery.
p.s. I tried to do the power cycle (as the tech support told me) but still no luck at all.

Follow method 2 from the Hard Brick guide by Naman Bhalla and try two or three times.
Sometimes it takes more than once for restoration.
Since you opened the phone, i think your warranty is gone now.
If the msmdownloadtool didnt help you, there is nothing you can do i think.
try to flash again, and if it still maybe something short inside.
if you have disassembly your phone, try disconnecting various flex cable like camera, sim slot etc that connect to the mainboard, that doesn't prevent device from powered on, then try to turning it on.
if it still, check your mainboard, if you don't know how, send it back.

Is ir really gone? There is a still warranty void sticker on the screw there, but of course it's possible to see by eye that the phone has been opened.
I have an appointment with Level2 tech support @oneplus, they are going to remotely flash the entire OS, but do you think they are using pretty similar technique as the msmdownloadtool?

Yes battery is charged of course. It's just doint the same thing. Turns on, after a while when bootscreen comes it just turns off and white notification led appears, after that nothing.
I tried to flash it with tool using method 2 for like 15 times with "download complete" messages, but still no luck at all. Tried to erase partritions with fastboot, flashing just only recovery, modded recovery etc. but I still cannot access the recovery nor system. I just don't get it why the phone does not boot into recovery if I flash it or boot it straight away, It just only turns off and that's it. nothing more. Only black screen and white led lighting all the time (after a while the phone turns warm).
I have read all the MsmDownloadTool thread in "Mega Unbrick thread" and saw that few people have experienced the very same situation as me, so I was wondering if there is any fix for this? It's so strange that I was just surfing the Web and it just turned off by it self with like static image for miliseconds and after that just black screen.
There should be any fix. I guess that it's just a partition error...
Ok, not good news. I had a little remote session before a while. They says it's already a hardware problem.

Pfffft you think manufacturers notice when you take apart phones? Hell I took apart my Xperia Z2 because it was having problems and then glued it back together with cyanoacrylate hahahaha (worst thing to do but wtv) and no one noticed though it was seemless and everything looked perfect
Guys, I've got something for you! Not really the same thing as Naman.
p.s. not saying its original hehehehe keep safe
man i got a very similiar problem but my op3 has a black screen i was also on low battery around 5-15% when my phone went off after i was in twrp
Actually I was on twrp too! Also I have recently noticed that recovery loading speed was far too long than normal one. I'm talking for something about 5-7 minutes after reboot into twrp. So, who knows what did happen. Just made an RMA request. Will see how it goes.
Anyway, I was on stock 7.1.1 and it's just rooted with custom recovery and that's it! Nothing more! Is that just a factory failure or maybe it's caused by drops i have had? Nothing serious for a 4-5 times for a half year. Of course I have used it even in winter when the snowflakes are coming down from the sky and little rain. Btw, these liquid indicators are white, so all safe. ::laugh:

Hey y’all
So my phone fell two weeks ago from about 3 feet after a bad hand off as I was showing a pic to someone.
It already had fallen and only suffered a crack along the outer screen from the first fall, but this second drop cracked the inner screen and rendered the lcd useless.
I was still able to turn it off and on, as well as increase/decrease the volume, but screen was showing blue streaks until I just turned it off.
I reset the phone to no avail and eventually got a new replacement screen and frame from witrigs and was able to get the phone into recovery. I wiped the cache and was able to finally get past the boot screen (which displayed fine) but then immediately goes black as it loads up the main OS.
The screen can sense my finger and the touchscreen vibrates when I touch it as if the unlock number pattern screen would appear on the screen but, the screen remains blacked out.
I can turn the volume up and down, power button works fine. I can access twrp and it shows the full screen on the display, but once the OS tries to load the screen blacks out while otherwise functioning as it should.
I checked all of the connections and they’re all good, no loose ends or incorrectly inserted or disjointed pieces, I just can’t get a visual right when the os loads up.
Any ideas if this is hardware/software based? Doesn’t make sense that the screen shows up fine during the initial boot then goes black during the os boot and everything but the screen functions as normal. Thanks

Which rom/kernel you on? You can try another kernel and check
I think I was in resurrection remix 5.8.2. I mostly care about my files but if I can still use the phone that would be ideal.
Just tried flashing the rom I had on before (rr remix n 5.3.5 20180612 release), then dalvik and cache wipe, with the same result. Thanks to anyone that replies and has some insight! Been going on two weeks since my phone was initially dropped to replacing the screen to this! Grrr

Sometimes there is a drivers issue on replacement of screen. Try OOS and see if it works. Atleast for some people, OOS solved the issue.

Thanks. Should I try a newer more recent oos or one closer to the oos I had installed? Does it matter?
I would ideally like to get back to where my phone was, but if I can’t I’m content with starting over if it means I’ll have a functioning phone.

Recent OOS can be tried. There is no link between what OS you had and the OOS you are flashing.
Hope you succeed!
had similiar problems, replaced my screen was using custom roms too i found out cheap screens dont work properly and the only way around this for me was to install caesuim latest kernel cause my screen use to stay black after the screen went to sleep until i installed that kernel works great now
I have a like problem, my oneplus 3 locks the bottom of the screen, already replaced kernel and nothing works, someone has suggested what it can be, the screen has been replaced.
